• SSRS and cached reports

  Hi, I'm opening an SSRS2008 report using the http://server/reportserver/... syntax, outputting directly a PDF copy. This report has several parameters. The problem is that, despite making changes to the report, and clearing the browser's temporary files cache.. if I request the same report (i.e. same parameters) - the old report is returned. In the report execution properties, I have "Always run this report with the most recent data" and "Do not cache temporary copies of this report" selected. It's not just a case of caching data, but the entire report (including formatting, e.g. I deleted a page from the report yet it was still being shown...) and as I haven't specifically chosen to perform any caching I'm a little concerned and clearly don't fully understand what's going on! Any tips?

• Javascript: Perform function on form submit

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question! I've got the code working in jQuery to listen for a specific form on a page to be submitted and perform an alert when it is.. I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery? For example, I have this code (below) and just am unsure of how to listen for the form to be submitted to perform an action.. var submitform = document.getElementById("content").getElementsByTagName("form"); Thanks!

• Show me some cool python list comprehensions

  One of the major strengths of python and a few other (functional) programming languages are the list comprehension. They allow programmers to write complex expressions in 1 line. They may be confusing at first but if one gets used to the syntax, it is much better than nested complicated for loops. With that said, please share with me some of the coolest uses of list comprehensions. (By cool, I just mean useful) It could be for some programming contest, or a production system. For example: To do the transpose of a matrix mat >>> mat = [ ... [1, 2, 3], ... [4, 5, 6], ...   I'm missing some fairly simple syntax I gather. I'm trying to rewrite an element label to something else and keep everything else intact. object htmlRule extends RewriteRule { override def transform(n: Node): Seq[Node] = n match { case Elem(prefix, "document", attribs, scope, child@_*) => Elem(prefix, "html", attribs, scope, child) case other => other } } Now, I ask for an explanation of two things: 1) What exactly does "child@_*" mean in plain English? 2) How can I capture the value of "child@_*" and just let it pass right through to the new element? Currently, I get the following error, which makes sense. [error] found : Seq[scala.xml.Node] [error] required: scala.xml.Node [error] Elem(prefix, "html", attribs, scope, child) I'm not wedded to this either, so if there's a better way to simply change the element name of a specific node, let's here it... • Ignoring (serious) errors to keep the program alive?

  One of the main things I wanted to achieve in my experimental programming language was: When errors occur (Syntax, Name, Type, etc.) keep the program running, no matter how serious or devastating it is. I know that this is probably very bad, but I just wanted something that doesn't kill itself on every error - I find it interesting what happens when a serious error occurs but the program continues. Does this "paradigm" have a name? I mean expect for How bad is it to do the above? Are there programs in use out there that just follow: "Hey, this is a fatal, unexpected error - but you know what? I don't care!"?

• Spring 3.0 REST implementation or Jersey?

  Hi, SO! I'm currently trying to figure out which implementation of JSR-311 I'm going to recommend further up the food chain. I've pretty much narrowed it down to two options - Spring 3.0 with it's native support for REST - or use Sun's own Jersey (Restlets might also be an option). To me it doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the actual syntax, but there might be issues with performance that I haven't figured out yet. The service is meant to replace some heavy-duty EJB's and make a RESTful Webservice instead. The load is expected to be rather high, up in the 100k users per day (max) range, but will be seriously load balanced. Thanks for all your insights.

• Transitioning from C++ to C#

  I am very experienced in C and C++ but am having problems finding current opportunities. I decided to switch to C# but noticed that while the syntax is very similar, the programming styles are very different (we don't have IEnumerable etc in C). So the problem I am having now is having 20 years of experience but is only a junior when it comes to interviewing for a C# job. Most of the problems are me not being able to answer questions like 1) How do you do XYZ in Sql Server? 2) What's the use of in Spring.NET In other words, the phone interviewers don;t care if you know DB programming or not - they want to know if you know SQL Server. I am frustrated because the guys who are doing the interviews seem to be so narrow sighted in knowing ONLY C#, .NET and SQL Server, that I don't know how to get past them.

  i am inserting values into a table if the record exists already replace it, and if it does not exist then add a new one. so far i have this code: INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; but i need something like this if not pk="some_id" exists then INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; else update table_name where pk="some_id" what would be the correct SQL syntax for this? please note that i am using sql access and that i guess it can be a combination of vba and sql

• C++ conversion operator between types in other libraries

  For convenience, I'd like to be able to cast between two types defined in other libraries. (Specifically, QString from the Qt library and UnicodeString from the ICU library.) Right now, I have created utility functions in a project namespace: namespace MyProject { const icu_44::UnicodeString ToUnicodeString(const QString& value); const QString ToQString(const icu_44::UnicodeString& value); } That's all well and good, but I'm wondering if there's a more elegant way. Ideally, I'd like to be able to convert between them using a cast operator. I do, however, want to retain the explicit nature of the conversion. An implicit conversion should not be possible. Is there a more elegant way to achieve this without modifying the source code of the libraries? Some operator overload syntax, perhaps?

Adding either resulted in compiler warnings and runtime errors. I've tried the explicit syntax as described here but haven't found the right combination yet.

  Hello there, In my app, I am composing an HMTL email message with the 3.0+ MFMailComposeViewController. To do this, I created an HTML file, with some placeholders. In my code, I read the HTML file, and with replaceOccurrencesOfString, I replace the placeholders with data from the app. In that way, I compose the body of the email I want to send out. This is all working very nicely, except for the fact, that in my HTML file, I have an <img src='imageplaceholderpath' /> tag. Somehow, I cannot figure out, with what I should replace this imageplaceholderpath, in order to refer to an image that resides in my app. Is this a valid approach at all, and if so, what would be the syntax/logic behind the path I should put there? • MySQL 5 in MySQL 4 compatible mode for one database?

  In a recent project, I have to maintain some PHP code. I set up a development server and installed MySQL, Apache, PHP, ..etc. The program is terminated with an error: Unknown column _ _ _ in 'on clause' Cannot select .... Google shows that it's a change of syntax around JOINs, parentheses are needed. As you may imagine, fixing all that PHP SQL strings will be the last resort. _< Is is possible to config MySQL 5 to run at MySQL 4 compatible mode? Or even better, for only one database? Thanks! p.s. Since we are going to host the code on a new production server (MySQL 5 on a CentOS box), the chance to install MySQL 4 on the new server might be slim.

• Missing something with Reader monad - passing the damn thing around everywhere

  Learning Haskell, managing syntax, have a rough grasp of what monads etc are about but I'm clearly missing something. In main I can read my config file, and supply it as runReader (somefunc) myEnv just fine. But somefunc doesn't need access to the myEnv the reader supplies, nor do the next couple in the chain. The function that needs something from myEnv is a tiny leaf function. So - how do I get access to the environment in a function without tagging all the intervening functions as (Reader Env)? That can't be right because otherwise you'd just pass myEnv around in the first place. And passing unused parameters through multiple levels of functions is just ugly (isn't it?). There are plenty of examples I can find on the net but they all seem to have only one level between runReader and accessing the environment.

• Trying to create fields based on a case statement

  I'm having some trouble with the query below. I am trying to determine if the "category" field is A, B or C and then creating a field based on the category. That field would sum up payments field. But I'm running into error saying "incorrect syntax near keyword As". I am creating this in a SQL View. • Best way to check for nullable bool in a condition expression (if ...)

  I was wondering what was the most clean and understandable syntax for doing condition checks on nullable bools. Is the following good or bad coding style? Is there a way to express the condition better/more cleanly? bool? nullableBool = true; if (nullableBool ?? false) { ... } else { ... } especially the if (nullableBool ?? false) part. I don't like the if (x.HasValue && x.Value) style ... (not sure whether the question has been asked before ... couldn't find something similar with the search)

• Declaring an integer Range with step != 1 in Ruby

  Hey guys, I'm completely new to Ruby, so be gentle. Say I want to iterate over the range of even numbers from 2 to 100; how would I do that? Obviously I could do: (2..100).each do |x| if x % 2 == 0 # my code end end But, obviously (again), that would be pretty stupid. I know I could do something like: i = 2 while i <= 100 # my code i += 2 end I believe I could also write my own custom class that provides its own each method (?). I am almost sure that would be overkill, though. I'm interested in two things: Is it possible to do this with some variation of the standard Range syntax (i.e., (x..y).each)? Either way, what would be the most idiomatic "Ruby way" of accomplishing this (using a Range or otherwise)? Like I said, I'm new to the language; so any guidance you can offer on how to do things in a more typical Ruby style would be much appreciated.

  Suppose I have this XML: <x> <e s="1" t="A"/> <e s="2" t="A"/> <e s="1" t="B"/> </x> Is there any way to write an xpath to find any nodes named "e" which have the same value of @s as another node but a different value of @t for the same node. The first part is easy: //e[@s = //e/@s] as is the second part: //e[@t != //e[@t]] But I don't see any way to construct an xpath that compares two different attributes for two separate elements "e". Is there a way within the xpath syntax, or is it hopeless?

• With SQL can you use a sub-query in a WHERE LIKE clause?

  I'm not even sure how to even phrase this as it sounds weird conceptually, but I'll give it a try. Basically I'm looking for a way to create a query that is essentially a WHERE IN LIKE SELECT statement. As an example, if I wanted to find all user records with a hotmail.com email address, I could do something like: SELECT UserEmail FROM Users WHERE (UserEmail LIKE '%hotmail.com') But what if I wanted to use a subquery as the matching criteria? Something like this: SELECT UserEmail FROM Users WHERE (UserEmail LIKE (SELECT '%'+ Domain FROM Domains)) Is that even possible? If so, what's the right syntax?

  I have to code a desktop application and some dynamic web content. I'm planning to develop it in .NET with an Oracle database, though my dilemma is that my professor says that if I do so, there would be a lot of support issues later on. He says .NET is more compatible with MS SQL and MS Access, and so is the trend, everyone does it.Is it true? I have learnt Oracle so I know of a few features which I wouldn't be able to implement on SQL comfortably because of lack of knowledge of SQL databases.I would love to learn the new syntax but again, I don't have much time to spare.

'frame.gif')) { } But actually I don't want to restrict the user to upload more images with same name & obviously it is impossible to save two images with same name , but there is a way to just find total number of images with same name & upload the next image with appending total number + 1 with image name.   I am using this code to find files recursively in a folder , with size greater than 50000 bytes. def listall(parent): lis=[] for root, dirs, files in os.walk(parent): for name in files: if os.path.getsize(os.path.join(root,name))>500000: lis.append(os.path.join(root,name)) return lis This is working fine. But when I used this on 'temporary internet files' folder in windows, am getting this error. Please help to sort out this issue.

For example, I want to be able to filter based on: price, sqft, num_of_beds, and num_of_baths. Question: How can I perform something in javascript like the pseudo-code below: var newArray = homes.filter( price <= 1000 & sqft >= 500 & num_of_beds >=2 & num_of_baths >= 2.5); Note, the syntax does not have to be exactly like above. This is just an example.
