I have some inkling of what it might mean, but today I felt the need to understand it completely. So my question is... What does it mean that operating system is stable? What are the features of stable system?

• Resizing a System Partition Windows Server 2003 VM (Getting GParted Error)

  I am getting an error while trying to resize System Partition for Windows 2003 Server (this is a VM on a Hyper-v Windows Server 2008) using GParted Live CD ISO. Followed this tutorial: http://malaysiavm.com/blog/how-to-resize-windows-2003-server-virtual-disk-on-vmware-esx/ and GParted Doc http://gparted.sourceforge.net/larry/resize/resizing.htm (They are very similar) The VM has a Dynamic VHD file, I have already increased it using Hyper-v. GParted doesn't give any clues or details for the error. Just simply errors when trying to grow the partition. Any ideas what I can do? Thanks! Using version of Gparted: gparted-live-0.13.1-2

• Codecs, Premiere Pro & Quicktime: Import or Play Error

  Original Question I've been using a FS-H200 (not the Pro variant) recorder with a JVC ProHD camera. I have been shooting with the DTE FORMAT to Quicktime (.mov). I copied the files to an external hard drive and am now trying to edit. The files will play back in VLC, as they would be expected to. However they will not import into Adobe Premiere CS5.5, instead giving an error: Unsupported format or damaged file. Quicktime gives the following error when attempting to play the files: Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie (Filename) To try and fix this, I have installed the following codec packs: K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Full (version 5.9, latest) K-Lite Codec Pack 32-bit Full (version 8.4, latest) MainConcept Codec Suite (Broadcast) v5.1 for Adobe CS5 Reinstalled Quicktime with new download from Apple The same errors and problems still exist. From this I can assume that there is an issue with Quicktime and that is what Premiere is using as an encoder/decoder for the codec. Is there any way to fix this? From looking at the "Codec Information" from VLC: Stream 0 Type: Video Codec: MPEG-1/2 (mpgv) Language: English Resolution: 1280 x 720 Frame Rate: 25 Stream 1 Type: Audio Codec: PCM S16 BE (twos) Language: English Channels: Stereo Sample Rate: 48000 Hz Bits per sample: 16 Other computer specs: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (SP1) Gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3 Intel i7-2600K 16GB DDR3 2TB WD 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s LaCie d2 Quadra 2TB v3 7200RPM (External HDD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Golden Sample Updates 2012-03-11 @ 2050 AEDT MPEG Steamclip doesn't recognise, play or convert the footage. File open error: unrecognised file type. [Open Anyway] File open error: can't find video or audio tracks. 2012-03-24 @ 1920 AEDT Had to transcode the footage. :(

• Application windows have colossal fonts in Enlightenment 17, while system windows are untouched

  I'm trying to get used to using Enlightenment instead of KDE on my Slackware64 multilib computer, but I'm having a terrible time getting one problem fixed. My fonts are HUGE on application windows - from Firefox to Gimp to Xchat to anything else, all the fonts are 3x the size they should be. But at the same time, the system menu is the correct size. I'm at a loss - I want the applications to have the same DPI as the system menu. When I'm in KDE, they all look normal. I've included a screenshot to show what I'm talking about.

  I am trying to dual boot Windows 8 with Windows 7 . But I keep getting an error while selecting the drive to install on . The error is ""Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information." " . What might be the problem ? Also previously I tried to install only Windows 7 on my HDD . I downloaded the ISO from digital river . Made bootable usb . I got the same above error . But when I tried to install it via other usb which had pirated Windows 7 downloaded from torrents it gave no error . My system config is Motherboard - Gigabyte G41 MT S2P HDD - 160 GB SATA RAM - 8 GB Help !!!

• PhpMyAdmin 500 Internal Server Error on Nginx/php5-fpm/Debian

  I downloaded PhpMyAdmin a while ago and am having a hard time getting it to work. Requesting localhost/phpmyadmin gives a 500 Internal Server Error response, but there's nothing in the error log. These are the steps I did: Downloaded the newest phpmyadmin and unzipped all the files to /var/vhosts/phpmyadmin/www/ Created a new php5-fpm pool and a server block on nginx Changed the owner of all the files inside phpmyadmin/ Tried requesting localhost/phpmyadmin and localhost/phpmyadmin/setup The phpmyadmin is running inside a chroot, and all the files are owned by www-data so it shouldn't be a permission error. I made a new php file in the same directory to produce an error and it logs just fine so it has to be just phpmyadmin.   I am running a dicom receiver on a Centos 6 box on top of a Xen server. If I attempt to send data to it from a remote server I get the following error: storescp: relocation error: /lib/libresolv.so.2: symbol memcpy, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference If I send data to the server locally it works, but sending to it from remote gives the above error. I do not think this is a problem that is specific to the storescp server.

I found some information in Advanced Windows Debugging but the book targets Windows XP and things have changed quite a bit since then. I could not find any tutorials on the Internet/MSDN either.   I am trying to install a package that depends on python-keybinder and hence on libkeybinder. When I run makepkg for libkeybinder, it starts and after sometime I get the following error: checking for XkbQueryExtension... no configure: error: Could not find XKB ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting... ==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build libkeybinder. I tried checking the pkgbuild but wasn't able to find anything. :( Is there a workaround?

• System Lags/Freezes when under high usgage

  I am not sure if its my GPU / Memory or Hard drive thats failing. For example if I'm runnning more than one instance of chrome and running an application that takes up a lot of resources, my system will start to lag and freeze. When I launch Photoshop the GPU feature disables automatically, this also lags when I click on menus and when working on documents in Photoshop. I really dont know where to start, if i should buy a new graphics card or test the memory or could it be my OS drive?   I've setup Redmine 2.1 on my Debian Squeeze server following this Tutorial HowTo configure Redmine for advanced git integration (I tried to use the grack path). Redmine server is running properly, but I have a problem granting users access to git repositories. When I try to clone a repository it says: error: The requested URL returned error: 500 while accessing The apache error.log shows this entry: [Fri Sep 28 15:50:56 2012] [crit] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] configuration error: couldn't check user. Check your authn provider!: /repo.git/info/refs It also asks me for user and password when cloning, but it shouldn't if I understand the tutorial right.   Today I roughly measured the benefits of enabling write-back on the RAID controller on a server at work. It got no RAID battery-backup-unit (BBU) so the write-cache is currently disabled. As the server is not used to capacity (by far), the results in most test were spectacular, e.g.: Database CRUD: before 35s, after 4s Saving a 1MB Excel file: before: 20s (!), after: 0.5s Of course having a BBU is always recommended, but what are the main benefits of installing a BBU to a system, which got redundant power supplies and is attached to UPSs?   I have a laptop that fails to boot with the BSOD error: "page_fault_in_non_paged_area" STOP: 0x00000050 (0xEC6B738D, 0x00000000, 0x8649308C, 0x00000000) The laptop has 2 memory DIMMs. I removed each DIMM one at a time and the error remained with just one DIMM installed. I have run spinrite 6.0 on the hard drive no errors found. Booted to recovery mode and ran CHKDSK /R, it found and fixed errors but still gets the stop error. Any other suggestions to try?

  When I run the installer for both taglocity 2 and 3, during the installation I get the following error: Error 1001: Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorException: Configuration system failed to initalize. When I try to continue with the installation by clicking OK, a dialog appears with the title ADX Loader with the message: The system cannot find the file specified. Clicking OK causes the installation to roll back. I’m using Outlook 2007 on Windows XP.

  C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again. Is there a way I can force SFC to scan again and make the new fixes on reboot? Probably by deleting some file or something? I removed C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml by taking ownerships but it still shows the same message.

• Issue with aborted MySQL connections (error code: 4)

  Some of the connections between my application server (Ubuntu, Apache, PHP) and my DB server (Ubuntu, MySQL) are failing with error code 4. According to the documentation error code 4 is: OS error code 4: Interrupted system call At first I thought that maybe the issue is that the DB server has too many connections and fails because there are too much open files. But it seems not to be the case because: Too many open files has different error code (24). I've checked and during peak time the server had 497 files open (checked using lsof command) while the maximum is 1024. The TCP settings were already checked (see prior question). Any ideas what this can be or what should I check?

• Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

  I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here.
