• Embedded YouTube video slows down page load

  Hi, total newbie here - trying to figure out how to make a page load faster with 1 embedded YouTube video on it - a very modest page takes an extra 5 seconds to completely load with the YouTube player showing up. I'd either like the page to load first or to only load the video when user clicks on it - don't know how to do that..   I'm a rails newbie, and I have a controller called resource_links that I've mapped to resources: resources :resources, :as => :resource_links, :controller => :resource_links And this works (basically /resources works as /resource_links). However, trying to go to /resources/tags does not work. To get around this, I added more mappings as: match 'resource_links/tag/:tag(.:format)' => 'resource_links#tag', :via => :get, :as => 'resource_links_tagged', :constraints => {:tag => /.*/} match 'resource_links/tags' => 'resource_links#tags', :via => :get, :as => 'resource_links_tags' Is there any way I can get /resources/tags to be mapped to /resource_links/tag?

• How to change the color of fixed navigation links when it reaches a certain section?

  I'm trying to figure out how to change the color of the links in my fixed navigation (placed on the side of the page) when it reaches a certain section on the page (because the background of that section is the same color as the links in my navigation). I am a jQuery newbie, so I don't really know how to go about this. • MySQL Access in Php to a database created in C-Panel

  Basically, i'm having trouble connecting to a mysql database using a php web page. I created the database in C-panel using the wizard i'm connecting like this $db_host = "localhost"; //your host Database address $db_username = "xxxx"; //your account username $db_pass = "xxxxx"; //your account password $db_name = "xxxxx"; //your database name @mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass") or die ("could not connect to mysql"); @mysql_select_db("$db_name") or die ("no database"); But all my page seems to do is trigger the " could not connect to mysql" my page does have wordpress installed at the minute but I'm planning to get rid of it as I'm creating my site myself. I'm just baffled why it can't connect, because in Phpmyadmin ( a feature on C-panel) it says the database is in localhost.

• Any suggestions in a way to parse headers and links from blog pages using C#?

  I'm currently self-studying C# in my free time and thought of a "little" project to get me going (and one that I or others will actually find useful). It ended up being more complicated than I thought. Or maybe I'm just thinking it is? Anyway, this project would parse the homepages of the blogs (most of them are Wordpress blogs) I frequent to, take the post headers and the links within those posts and notify me via a balloon tip in the task bar. I can handle the rest except for the way of getting C# to parse the HTML pages for the items I need. C# doesn't seem to have no built-in way to do this. Could anyone point me to the right direction? I just looked into the HTML Agility Pack but I'm still trying to figure it out. Some example code will help much too. Thanks in advance!

• Secure method for linking to image files uploaded via custom CMS

  How does one provide a direct URL for an image file (JPEG) that is secure? For example, if a PHP script writes uploaded images to directory http://www.somehost.com/images, is it okay to provide http://www.somehost.com/images/someimage.jpg as the URL, or is there a more secure way to do this? Should I look into something like the permalink feature that is a part of Wordpress? I am not sure if that is related. The main reason I ask is that I have a custom PHP/MySQL CMS for managing images. I would like for the client to be able to copy a link to the image they want and then include it in a TinyMCE text editor for inserting the image in their website. Thanks!

  Hi all, I have a Sites table that has columns name, and time. The name does not have to be unique. So for example I may have the entries 'hi.com, 5', 'hi.com, 10', 'bye.com, 4'. I would like to sum up all the unique sites so that i get 'hi.com, 15' and 'bye.com, 4' for plotting purposes. How can I do that? • Why in C++ do we use DWORD rather than unsigned int?

  I'm not afraid to admit that I'm somewhat of a C++ newbie, so this might seem like a silly question but.... I see DWORD used all over the place in code examples. When I look up what a DWORD truly means, its apparently just an unsigned int (0 to 4,294,967,295). So my question then is, why do we have DWORD? What does it give us that the integral type 'unsigned int' does not? Does it have something to do with portability and machine differences?

I have to display an xml tree in a winform and then when i click on any node, its attributes should get displayed on a list box in same window. I'm looking to develop some mobile travel guides for iPhone/Android/Blackberry etc, and rather than get a CMS built, I'd like to see if there's something out there is similar to Wordpress in that it will allow us to input text, images, Google Maps details, phone numbers, email addresses and potentially some audio/video content.   hello everyone, total newbie is here :) i have this header file, zeeheader.h, and i wrote some classes in it, i'm having problems giving a string as a parameter to one of the functions: class DeliTest { public: void DeliCheck(Stack*,string); void ComCheck (unsigned,string); bool EofCheck (unsigned,string); }; as i was implementinng it in the cpp file, i added #include to it, it seemed to be working, for example : as i was writing the "data." i got the "length()" appear by the intellisense, so i thought that it was working, but it wasn't. i got errors like: syntax error : identifier 'string' overloaded member function not found in 'DeliTest' this is one of the fucntions in the cpp file: bool DeliTest::EofCheck(unsigned i, string data) { if (i == data.length()-1) return 1; return 0; } am i supposed to be adding something to the header file??

• How to achieve Bottom Align floated div that sizes to it's container.

  How can I achieve the following layout? Specifically the positioning of Image and DIV I've found that unless I set a specific width for the Div, it will just go on to the next line and take up the full width of the container. Additionally aligning it relative to the bottom of the image is giving me trouble. Currently they're both float:left Edit: The two solutions so far work if the image is a constant width which I guess I could work with, but it's going in a Wordpress theme for an author's profile page and it's possible that images would have slightly variable widths. Is there a solution that would have the Div right next to the image (minus padding) regardless of how wide or narrow the image is? Basically having the div adjust its width to accommodate the image width.

  I'm an EM newbie and writing two codes to compare synchronous and asynchronous IO. I'm using Ruby 1.8.7. The example for sync IO is: def pause_then_print(str) sleep 2 puts str end 5.times { |i| pause_then_print(i) } puts "Done" This works as expected, taking 10+ seconds until termination. On the other hand, the example for async IO is: require 'rubygems' require 'eventmachine' def pause_then_print(str) Thread.new do EM.run do sleep 2 puts str end end end EventMachine.run do EM.add_timer(2.5) do puts "Done" EM.stop_event_loop end EM.defer(proc do 5.times { |i| pause_then_print(i) } end) end 5 numbers are shown in 2.x seconds. Now I explicitly wrote code that EM event loop to be stopped after 2.5 seconds. But what I want is that the program terminates right after printing out 5 numbers. For doing that, I think EventMachine should recognize all 5 threads are done, and then stop the event loop. How can I do that? Also, please correct the async IO example if it can be more natural and expressive. Thanks in advance.

  hi guys.... suppose i have 10 image variables like this var image1:String = http://somewhere.com/image1.jpg var image2:string = .....image2.jpg var image3:string = .....image3.jpg and so forth......... i have a timer that displays each variable as an image one a time .... how do i "buffer" the image and display them instead of going out each time the timer runs? im asking because sometimes the server could slow or some other reason. so what i want to do is to download all those images and then display them from the clients computer. some sort like @Embed ??? complete newbie.. so please go slow on me ... :p
