  • How do browser cookie domains work?

    Due to weird domain/subdomain cookie issues that I'm getting, I'd like to know how browsers handle cookies. If they do it in different ways, it would also be nice to know the differences. In other words - when a browser receives a cookie, that cookie MAY have a domain and a path attached to it. Or not, in which case the browser probably substitutes some defaults for them. Question 1: what are they? Later, when the browser is about to make a request, it checks its cookies and filters out the ones it should send for that request. It does so by matching them against the requests path and domain. Question 2: what are the matching rules? Added: The reason I'm asking this is because I'm interested in some edge cases. Like: Will a cookie for .example.com be available for www.example.com? Will a cookie for .example.com be available for example.com? Will a cookie for example.com be available for www.example.com? Will a cookie for example.com be available for anotherexample.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for example.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for www2.example.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for .com? Etc. Added 2: Also, could someone suggest how I should set a cookie so that: It can be set by either www.example.com or example.com; It is accessible by both www.example.com and example.com.

    I have the following java code: import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Collections; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { int[] test = {1,2,3,4,5}; Collections.rotate(Arrays.asList(test), -1); for(int i = 0; i < test.length; i++) { System.out.println(test[i]); } } } I want the array to be rotated, but the output I get is 1 2 3 4 5 Why is this? And is there an alternative solution?

    I have a table MRU, that has 3 columns. (VALUE varchar(255); TYPE varchar(20); DT_ADD datetime) This is a table simply storing an entry and recording the date time it was recorded. What I wanted to do is: delete the oldest entry whenever I add a new entry that exceeds a certain number. here is my query: delete from MRU where type = 'FILENAME' ORDER BY DT_ADD limit 1; The query returns an error.   • Ways to wrap 32-bit .dll so it will work in a 64-bit OS

    So, I've been using JPIB to communicate with GPIB devices in my java program. However, I have run into a snag. Newer systems are built on 64 bit OS's. However, the jpib.dll file is written in 32-bit. I can't think of any kind of calls that it would need to make that are truly 64-bit dependent. The real trouble here is that the JPIB project hasn't been updated since september of 2006. I've tried emailing the dev through SourceForge but I don't think I'll get anywhere with that. Does anyone know of any ways around this? Or know how (and could tell me how) to recompile the .dll into AMD-64 compliance?

  • rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

    i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

  • Can't seem to get my like/dislike to work in PHP

    My table is comment_likedislike. It has the comment_counterid, comment_counter, comment_id(which is from another table) fields. And I have an url (LIKE) that when clicked would link to this code and get the comment_id and like_id. I want to do a count where if it is the first 'like', it would store a new comment_counter in the comment_likedislike table. But if there is already a 'like' for the comment in the table, it would just update the comment_counter to +1. Problem: When I run this code, it doesn't UPDATE(1st statement) but INSERT(2nd if statement) no matter if there is a like for the comment or not. I don't think the code is checking if the comment_id is in the table already. I am a novice php programmer.   • Uploading files wont work on production server

    I have a php script which uploads images to a temporary folder on the server. This works on my local computer with the local (virtual) server. (wampserver). However, on the production server (linux) I cant get it working. Everything is loading as it should, except for that the file doesn't show up on the server. My Q is, is there anything I should think about when moving to a production server with uploading images or files? I have set permissions on the folder where the images are supposed to go to 777 and also the php-code which uploads them to 777. Thanks

    Note: This question is also cross-posted in Q.js mailing list over here. i had a situation with multiple asynchronous operations and the answer I accepted pointed out that using Promises using a library such as q.js would be more beneficial. I am convinced to refactor my code to use Promises but because the code is pretty long, i have trimmed the irrelevant portions and exported the crucial parts into a separate repo. The repo is here and the most important file is this. The requirement is that I want pageSizes to be non-empty after traversing all the dragged'n dropped files. The problem is that the FileAPI operations inside getSizeSettingsFromPage function causes getSizeSettingsFromPage to be async. So I cannot place checkWhenReady(); like this. function traverseFiles() { for (var i=0, l=pages.length; i<l; i++) { getSizeSettingsFromPage(pages[i], calculateRatio); } checkWhenReady(); // this always returns 0. } This works, but it is not ideal. I prefer to call checkWhenReady just ONCE after all the pages have undergone this function calculateRatio successfully. function calculateRatio(width, height, filename) { // .... code pageSizes.add(filename, object); checkWhenReady(); // this works but it is not ideal.   • Django logging in and out - doesn't work if prepend_www set

    I'm a Django beginner. My site - let's call it abc.com - works fine, letting users log in and out (having originally registered via Django registratiaon). If it's relevant, my virtuahosts file has ServerName abc.com and ServerAlias www.abc.com directives. I don't want my visitors to sense that both abc.com and www.abc.com exist, and so discovered Django's prepend_www setting, which works as intended. In addition to working as intended, however, there's a side effect that disables logging in and out when visiting the www. variant of my site.

    Here's an example of what I mean... User runs LOADER.EXE program LOADER.EXE downloads another EXE but keeps it all in memory without saving it to disk Runs the downloaded EXE just as it would if it were executed from disk, but does it straight from memory I've seen a few applications like this, and I've never seen an example or an explanation of how it works. Does anyone know? Another example is having an encrypted EXE embedded in another one. It gets extracted and decrypted in memory, without ever being saved to disk before it gets executed. I've seen that one used in some applications to prevent piracy.

I understand that if there is no value for option.variable then VARIABLE_CONSTANT is used, but I don't understand that calling Module::Class.config do |options| #some block end set the @client until config is called again with options The code definitely works, but I want to understand how it does

    I'm tasked to replicate a few functionnalities from an existing application. This application rely on .NET managed assemblies accessible from C#. I can import those DLLs in my new C# project but there is no documentation on how to use them. Yes, this is labeled as an "SDK", but does not contain examples or documentation. Any pointers on how I should procceed? I thought about creating stubs assemblies and monitor their usage by the original application but this involves a lot of code, maybe a tool could do it for me?

  • Jquery .text() seems not to work on XML in IE7

    My PHP backend sends XML response to the client (ajax): <response> <code>0</code> <message>OK</message> </response> in the javascript I'm trying to get CODE value in this way: var errorCode = $('code', xml).text(); and then depending on errorCode value I do processing. It is working fine in all browsers I tested except IE7. Instead of CODE value - it is giving me the empty string. The problem is not in 0 value, because I tried to use 5 as a code for example - the result was the same. Any ideas, because I'm stuck with :(( Thanks.

    What happens if you use the increment operator (++) on a DateTime type in C#? For instance, if I did this: DateTime blah = new DateTime(2010, 12, 24); blah++; What does blah become? Does that increment by a tick or a day? Or is that even legal? I don't have a dev environment around, and won't for a few days, or I would just try it and find out. I was too curious to wait so I figured I'd ask the community.

    I am trying to generate some seed material. seed_array.each do |seed| Task.create(date: Date.new(2012,06,seed[1]), start_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2],seed[3]), end_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2] + 2,seed[3]), title: "#{seed[0]}") end Ultimately I will put random hours, minutes, seconds. The problem that I am facing is that instead of creating a time with the 2012-06-02 date it creates a time with a different date: 2000-01-01. I tested Time.new(2012,6,2,2,20,45) in rails console and it works as expected. When I am trying to seed my database however some voodo magic happens and I don't get the date I want. Any inputs are appreciated. Thank you!
