  • How do I audit CD/DVD tray opening events in Windows 7?

    Since installing Windows 7, the entire office has experienced random CD tray openings, sometimes while we are in the office, sometimes not. On my PC, I have two disc-reading devices, but only the top one ever slides open. I have found nothing in the event logs to that looks appropriate, even going to them right after I saw my own tray slide open all by itself. Although it's not hurting anything (that I can tell), I'd like to know what is going on. To that end, are there any useful ways to audit these events?

The dialog box follows the mouse On click the dialog box "stops" and displays a link What I want to achieve When a table cell is hovered over the title of the dialog box shows the date e.g "Mon 8th Oct 2012" When a table cell is hovered over the html of the dialog box shows the events for that day in list format (there is code that succesfully retrieves the first row in function getSelectedDates() ) function getSelectedDates() needs to be called in the hover event - showing multiple events for that date in the dialog box I hope that if we can display the date being hovered over in the title of the dialog then we can use the same information to retrieve the rows from the database to populate the html of the dialog for that day

  • ScrollBall press events while screen is off on an Android device.

    I'm writing a quick music player for myself on my Nexus One and really want to add the feature of being able to switch to the next song without removing it from it's case, ie. by pressing the scrollball through the sleeve. I've scoured many resources and... Haven't found a decently easy way to listen to key press events while the screen is off. Can't seem to even get scrollball press events to work. I've tried using a broadcastreciever listening for the Dpad_center intent, but it doesn't seem to function properly. I'm not looking for someone to write the code for me, but if you have successfully done either of these things, any insight on techniques or resources would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

  • Showing Egde Shaped Event Duration in StreamInsight using Debugger

    Whilst writing some courseware I wanted to be able to see the start and end times of Edge shaped events from within the debugger.  A quick recap on Edge events At the start of the event you do not know the end time and most probably cannot work it out or you should be using one of the other shapes. You enqueue an event (Start Edge) with the start time and payload of the event.  The end time of the event is set to infinity When you see the end edge come through, you enqueue another event (End Edge) with the previous start time and payload and restate the event’s end time.  This is the Retract Event All seems simple enough.  The problem is the debugger is a little shy about showing you what you need but you can get it to show you everything by also reading this article Here’s what I mean. Here is what the Event Debugger looks like by default when viewing 2 complete edge events.  Notice how all the end times are set to infinity   The above does not tell you for how long an event was valid.  I then add the “NewEndTime” column to the debugger output and there I can now see the duration of events.  You will see the Retract events (End Edge) have the same start time and payload as their respective start events (Start Edge)   You can follow the exact same logic when looking at Interval shape events.  They look a little different on the output adapter but using this article you can easily see what is happening.

    I am having a WPF desktop application that uses SQL CE (compact edition 3.5 ) and using the Entity Framework as a Datalayer. As It turned out in (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;958478&sd=rss&spid=2855 ) and (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlce/thread/b6bac277-cf66-4c74-a0b3-e48abedbd161/ ) There Is some problem with the Entity Framework and SQL CE and I had to get the hotfix (basically a new build of the SQL CE called 3.5.1) My problem now is how to build a setup package in order to make it work in case some users already had the SQL CE 3.5 installed on their machines? I have included the DLLs directly in the application but when the sql ce is installed, its DLLs are in the GAC and have precedence over the local ones and the application crashes. I need the build a setup that would work "even if" the user already had the old buggy version.

    I want to use Jasper Reports in my Java application. I use Eclipse. I have added jasperreports-3.7.2.jar to my Build Path in Eclipse, but when compiling I get many NoClassDefFoundError-exceptions, so I have to add those libraries too to my Build Path. Do I really need to copy all jar-libraries that Jasper Reports are using to my lib-directory and then add them to my Build Path in Eclipse, or is it any easier way to solve this? The libraris I'm talking about are those in Jaspers Report's lib-directory, i.e. commons-digerster-1.7.jar, commons-logging-1.0.4.jar and so on...

    I have an Xcode project with a directory structure like this: MasterProjectDir/projectname.xcodeproj MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/whatever.c MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/etc.c MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/Makefile My xcodeproj uses an external build target to point to the Makefile using these settings: Build Tool: /usr/bin/make Arguments: $(ACTION) Directory: ./ProjectSubDir For various reasons, I need to change the project directory structure to look like this: MasterProjectDir/projectname.xcodeproj MasterProjectDir/whatever.c MasterProjectDir/etc.c MasterProjectDir/Makefile I copied the .xcodeproj file into the ProjectSubDir and the project somehow still knows where to look for the files (?!?! - this is odd because their location is set as "relative to group" and I've just moved the xcodeproj file). It won't build. I get the following error: make: * No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Command /usr/bin/make failed with exit code 2 I could use a little help on this. There must be a setting I need to change somewhere.

  • Which events specifically cause Windows 2008 to mark a SAN volume offline?

    I am searching for specific criteria/events that will cause Windows 2008 to mark a SAN volume as offline in disk management, even though it is connected to that SAN volume via FC or iSCSI. Microsoft states that "A dynamic disk may become Offline if it is corrupted or intermittently unavailable. A dynamic disk may also become Offline if you attempt to import a foreign (dynamic) disk and the import fails. An error icon appears on the Offline disk. Only dynamic disks display the Missing or Offline status." I am specifically wondering if, on the SAN, changing the path to the disk (such as the disk being presented to the host via a different iSCSI target IQN or a different LUN #) would cause a volume to be offlined in disk management. Thanks! Edit: I have already found two reasons why a disk might be set offline, disk signature collisions and the SAN disk policy.   • Can't build and run an android test project created using "ant create test-project" when tested proj

    I have a module that builds an app called MyApp. I have another that builds some testcases for that app, called MyAppTests. They both build their own APKs, and they both work fine from within my IDE. I'd like to build them using ant so that I can take advantage of continuous integration. Building the app module works fine. I'm having difficulty getting the Test module to compile and run. Using Christopher's tip from a previous question, I used android create test-project -p MyAppTests -m ../MyApp -n MyAppTests to create the necessary build files to build and run my test project. This seems to work great (once I remove an unnecessary test case that it constructed for me and revert my AndroidManifest.xml to the one I was using before it got replaced by android create), but I have two problems. I'm not sure it's the right thing to do, but I copied the missing libraries (roboguice and gson) from the MyApp/libs directory to the MyAppTests/libs directory and everything seems to compile fine.   • How might maven's buildNumber metadata become inconsistent across multiple build agents?

    We recently added a second build machine to our build environment and began experiencing very odd occasional build failures. I have two separate Maven build machines, A and B, each running Maven 2.2.1 and communicating to a shared Nexus 1.5.0 repository manager. My problem is that builds on B will occasionally fail because it refuses to download a newer version of a common dependency 'acme-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT' previously built by A and uploaded to Nexus. Looking inside the local repositories on both machines I noticed some oddities in the repository metadata. Machine A's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>1</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100525173546</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> Machine B's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>2</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100519232317</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> In Nexus's acme/1.0.0-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning /> </metadata> If I'm interpreting the metadata files correctly (documentation online is scant), it appears machine B believes it has a newer version of the acme dependency (based on buildNumber) despite the fact that machine A last built it 6 days after machine B did (based on timestamp). Nexus also appears to be unaware of a universally correct buildNumber. How could this situation possibly arise? What could I do to prevent my builds from failing due to inconsistent metadata? Have you experienced anything similar? Important notes: Both build machines have settings.xml files where the updatePolicy is "always". Nexus does indeed have the newer version of acme that was built by A. B simply refuses to download it. A and B are the only machines uploading to Nexus. Both servers share the same system time. All processes involved have write privileges to the metadata files so that they can be updated as necessary. I was unable to find any open Maven or Nexus issues describing this behaviour. Our CI server (Atlassian Bamboo) prevents builds of the same artifact from happening concurrently, so some race condition while uploading to Nexus is rather unlikely.

  • Web Platform Installer bundles for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 - and how you can build your own WebPI bundles

    Visual Studio SP1 is  now available via the Web Platform Installer, which means you've got three options: Download the 1.5 GB ISO image Run the 750KB Web Installer (which figures out what you need to download) Install via Web PI Note: I covered some tips for installing VS2010 SP1 last week - including some that apply to all of these, such as removing options you don't use prior to installing the service pack to decrease the installation time and download size. Two Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Web PI packages There are actually two WebPI packages for VS2010 SP1. There's the standard Visual Studio 2010 SP1 package [Web PI link], which includes (quoting ScottGu's post): VS2010 2010 SP1 ASP.NET MVC 3 (runtime + tools support) IIS 7.5 Express SQL Server Compact Edition 4.0 (runtime + tools support) Web Deployment 2.0 The notes on that package sum it up pretty well: Looking for the latest everything? Look no further. This will get you Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 and the RTM releases of ASP.NET MVC 3, IIS 7.5 Express, SQL Server Compact 4.0 with tooling, and Web Deploy 2.0. It's the value meal of Microsoft products. Tell your friends! Note: This bundle includes the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 web installer, which will dynamically determine the appropriate service pack components to download and install. This is typically in the range of 200-500 MB and will take 30-60 minutes to install, depending on your machine configuration. There is also a Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Core package [Web PI link], which only includes only the SP without any of the other goodies (MVC3, IIS Express, etc.). If you're doing any web development, I'd highly recommend the main pack since it the other installs are small, simple installs, but if you're working in another space, you might want the core package. Installing via the Web Platform Installer I generally like to go with the Web PI when possible since it simplifies most software installations due to things like: Smart dependency management - installing apps or tools which have software dependencies will automatically figure out which dependencies you don't have and add them to the list (which you can review before install) Simultaneous download and install - if your install includes more than one package, it will automatically pull the dependencies first and begin installing them while downloading the others Lists the latest downloads - no need to search around, as they're all listed based on a live feed Includes open source applications - a lot of popular open source applications are included as well as Microsoft software and tools No worries about reinstallation - WebPI installations detect what you've got installed, so for instance if you've got MVC 3 installed you don't need to worry about the VS2010 SP1 package install messing anything up In addition to the links I included above, you can install the WebPI from http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx, and if you have Web PI installed you can just tap the Windows key and type "Web Platform" to bring it up in the Start search list. You'll see Visual Studio SP1 listed in the spotlight list as shown below. That's the standard package, which includes MVC 3 / IIS 7.5 Express / SQL Compact / Web Deploy. If you just want the core install, you can use the search box in the upper right corner, typing in "Visual Studio SP1" as shown. Core Install: Use Web PI or the Visual Studio Web Installer? I think the big advantage of using Web PI to install VS 2010 SP1 is that it includes the other new bits. If you're going to install the SP1 core, I don't think there's as much advantage to using Web PI, as the Web PI Core install just downloads the Visual Studio Web Installer anyways. I think Web PI makes it a little easier to find the download, but not a lot. The Visual Studio Web Installer checks dependencies, so there's no big advantage there. If you do happen to hit any problems installing Visual Studio SP1 via Web PI, I'd recommend running the Visual Studio Web Installer, then running the Web PI VS 2010 SP1 package to get all the other goodies. I talked to one person who hit some random snag, recommended that, and it worked out. Custom Web Platform Installer bundles You can create links that will launch the Web Platform Installer with a custom list of tools. You can see an example of this by clicking through on the install button at http://asp.net/downloads (cancelling the installation dialog). You'll see this in the address bar: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=MVC3;ASPNET;NETFramework4;SQLExpress;VWD Notice that the appid querystring parameter includes a semicolon delimited list, and you can make your own custom Web PI links with your own desired app list. I can think of a lot of cases where that would be handy: linking to a recommended software configuration from a software project or product, setting up a recommended / documented / supported install list for a software development team or IT shop, etc. For instance, here's a link that installs just VS2010 SP1 Core and the SQL CE tools: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=VS2010SP1Core;SQLCETools Note: If you've already got all or some of the products installed, the display will reflect that. On my dev box which has the full SP1 package, here's what the above link gives me: Here's another example - on a fresh box I created a link to install MVC 3 and the Web Farm Framework (http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=MVC3;WebFarmFramework) and got the following items added to the cart: But where do I get the App ID's? Aha, that's the trick. You can link to a list of cool packages, but you need to know the App ID's to link to them. The C# version was written first but I originally came up with the solution in my head using Ruby, and then I translated it to C#.
