  • Decoupling into DAL and BLL - my concerns.

    - by novice_man
Hi, In many posts concerning this topic I come across very simple examples that do not answer my question. Let's say a have a document table and user table. In DAL written in ADO.NET i have a method to retries all documents for some criteria. Now I the UI I have a case where I need to show this list along with the names of the creator. Up to know I have it done with one method in DAL containig JOIN statement. However eveytime I have such a complex method i have to do custom mapping to some object that doesn't mark 1:1 to DB. Should it be put into another layer ? If so then I will have to resing from join query for iteration through results and querying each document author. . . which doen't make sense... (performance) what is the best approach for such scenarios ?

  • Custom SQL function for NHibernate dialect

    - by Kristoffer Ahl
    I want to be able to call a custom function called "recent_date" as part of my HQL. Like this: [Date] >= recent_date() I created a new dialect, inheriting from MsSql2000Dialect and specified the dialect for my configuration. public class NordicMsSql2000Dialect : MsSql2000Dialect { public NordicMsSql2000Dialect() { RegisterFunction( "recent_date", new SQLFunctionTemplate( NHibernateUtil.Date, "dateadd(day, -15, getdate())" ) ); } } var configuration = Fluently.Configure() .Database( MsSqlConfiguration.MsSql2000 .ConnectionString(c => .... ) .Cache(c => c.UseQueryCache().ProviderClass<HashtableCacheProvider>()) .Dialect<NordicMsSql2000Dialect>() ) .Mappings(m => ....) .BuildConfiguration(); When calling recent_date() I get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: 'recent_date' is not a recognized function name I'm using it in a where statement for a HasMany-mapping like below. HasMany(x => x.RecentValues) .Access.CamelCaseField(Prefix.Underscore) .Cascade.SaveUpdate() .Where("Date >= recent_date()"); What am I missing here?

  • Python Eggs on Google App Engine

    - by ott
Usually I would use virtualenv and pip for deployment of web applications. With Google App Engine this doesn't work, because all import statement are relative to directory of the application. The most common approach I saw was to simply copy the packages from site-packages to the directory of the application. This involves manual work and is error-prone. Another approach was to changes install_lib and install_scripts in ~/.pydisutils.cfg, but this doesn't allow me to use pip in my home directory simultaneously. Do you have any suggestions for this?

  • Insert query results into table in ms access 2010

    - by CodeMed
I need to transform data from one schema into another in an MS Access database. This involves writing queries to select data from the old schema and then inserting the results of the queries into tables in the new schema. The below is an example of what I am trying to do. The SELECT component of the below works fine, but the INSERT component does not work. Can someone show me how to fix the below so that it effectively inserts the results of the SELECT statement into the destination table? INSERT INTO CompaniesTable (CompanyName) VALUES ( SELECT DISTINCT IIF(a.FIRM_NAME IS NULL, b.SUBACCOUNT_COMPANY_NAME, a.FIRM_NAME) AS CompanyName FROM (SELECT ContactID, FIRM_NAME, SUBACCOUNT_COMPANY_NAME FROM qrySummaryData) AS a LEFT JOIN (SELECT ContactID, FIRM_NAME, SUBACCOUNT_COMPANY_NAME FROM qrySummaryData) AS b ON a.ContactID = b.ContactID ); The definition of the target table (CompaniesTable) is: CompanyID Autonumber CompanyName Text Description Text WebSite Text Email Text TypeNumber Number

  • How can two threads access a common array of buffers with minimal blocking ? (c#)

    - by Jelly Amma
Hello, I'm working on an image processing application where I have two threads on top of my main thread: 1 - CameraThread that captures images from the webcam and writes them into a buffer 2 - ImageProcessingThread that takes the latest image from that buffer for filtering. The reason why this is multithreaded is because speed is critical and I need to have CameraThread to keep grabbing pictures and making the latest capture ready to pick up by ImageProcessingThread while it's still processing the previous image. My problem is about finding a fast and thread-safe way to access that common buffer and I've figured that, ideally, it should be a triple buffer (image[3]) so that if ImageProcessingThread is slow, then CameraThread can keep on writing on the two other images and vice versa. What sort of locking mechanism would be the most appropriate for this to be thread-safe ? I looked at the lock statement but it seems like it would make a thread block-waiting for another one to be finished and that would be against the point of triple buffering. Thanks in advance for any idea or advice. J.

  • Better Java method Syntax? Return early or late? [closed]

    - by Gandalf
Duplicate: Should a function have only one return statement? and Single return or multiple return statements? Often times you might have a method that checks numerous conditions and returns a status (lets say boolean for now). Is it better to define a flag, set it during the method, and return it at the end : boolean validate(DomainObject o) { boolean valid = false; if (o.property == x) { valid = true; } else if (o.property2 == y) { valid = true; } ... return valid; } or is it better/more correct to simply return once you know the method's outcome? boolean validate(DomainObject o) { if (o.property == x) { return true; } else if (o.property2 == y) { return true; } ... return false; } Now obviously there could be try/catch blocks and all other kinds of conditions, but I think the concept is clear. Opinions?

  • asp:SqlDataSource binded to asp:DropDownList

    - by _simon_
I have a asp:SqlDataSource and asp:DropDownList components on my page. On normal page it works ok. Now I'd like to put this on new page with url like ...mypage.aspx?transactionID=2. In Page_Load I would like to set Transaction drop down selected index to 2. But it always binds to 1. I assume, that things happen in this order: in Page_Load I set selected index to 2. Then asp:SqlDataSource's select statement executes and binds to DropDownList. That's why selected index of my DropDownList is always 1, no matter what I set it in Page_Load. So, how can I bind asp:SqlDataSource to asp:DropDownList and also set it's selected index parameter to some integer?

  • Is this __import__ functionality correct?

    - by Jason Baker
I have a package named jiva_tasks, which I'm trying to import via celery (using the CELERY_IMPORTS attribute of celeryconfig. The import statement that celery is using is this: __import__(module, [], [], ['']) Oddly enough, when this syntax is used, the module gets imported twice, once as jiva_tasks and another time as jiva_tasks. (with a period at the end). Now, chances are good that celery should be passing in globals rather than an empty list, but this seems broken to me. It seems odd that even if given the wrong arguments, __import__ would import something that isn't a valid python module name. I know that the way to fix this is to pass in globals, but I want to understand why I'm getting this result. Is this a bug, or is there something I don't understand about how __import__ is working? Update: It also seems to be working fine if I use importlib.

  • PHP else/if statements

    - by V Neal
    I've written the following PHP statement but everytime i try to combine it into an else/if, it breaks. Can someone please advise? I'm new to PHP and am getting a tad stuck. Thanks :) <?php if (is_page( 19 ) ) {?> <div class="imageSlider"><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image.jpg" alt="" /><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image2.jpg" alt="" /><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image3.jpg" alt="" /></div> <?php }?> <?php if (is_page( 23 ) ) {?> <div class="imageSlider"><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image.jpg" alt="" /><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image.jpg" alt="" /><img src="<?php echo bloginfo('template_directory');?>/Images/mainImages/innerPage-Image.jpg" alt="" /></div> } <?php }?>

  • Does a C++ destructor always or only sometimes call data member destructors?

    - by Magnus
I'm trying to validate my understanding of C++ destructors. I've read many times that C++ supplies a default destructor if I don't write one myself. But does this mean that if I DO write a destructor that the compiler WON'T still provide the default cleanup of stack-allocated class fields? My hunch is that the only sane behavior would be that all class fields are destroyed no matter what, whether I provide my own destructor or not. In which case the statement I've read so many times is actually a little misleading and could be better stated as: "Whether or not you write your own destructor, the C++ compiler always writes a default destructor-like sequence to deallocate the member variables of your class. You may then specify additional deallocations or other tasks as needed by defining your own destructor" Is this correct?

  • RPC Fails but passing in SQL Man. Studios works

    - by Justin
I am calling a stored procedure from a web service in an ASP.Net application. And until a few days ago, all was well. However now when i call it I get an error saying The timeout period elapsed prior to the completion of the operation or the server could not be reached. However when i would run SQL SERVER PROFILER, I could see that the call was getting to the database, but was timing out. I then copied the statement being executed found at the bottom of the Profiler and pasted it into Management Studio and executed it and it finishes in about 7 seconds.. This runs just fine on our production server. It seems to be similar to this question: SELECT DISTINCT not working in .NET application, but works in SQL Mgmt Studio but I see no answer.

  • How to get the first non-null value in Java?

    - by froadie
Is there a Java equivalent of SQL's COALESCE function? That is, is there any way to return the first non-null value of several variables? e.g. Double a = null; Double b = 4.4; Double c = null; I want to somehow have a statement that will return the first non-null value of a, b, and c - in this case, it would return b, or 4.4. (Something like the sql method - return COALESCE(a,b,c)). I know that I can do it explicitly with something like: return a != null ? a : (b != null ? b : c) But I wondered if there was any built-in, accepted function to accomplish this.

  • Are returned locals automatically xvalues

    - by mark
Following on from a comment I made on this: passing std::vector to constructor and move semantics Is the std::move necessary in the following code, to ensure that the returned value is a xvalue? std::vector<string> buildVector() { std::vector<string> local; // .... build a vector return std::move(local); } It is my understanding that this is required. I have often seen this used when returning a std::unique_ptr from a function, however GManNickG made the following comment: It is my understanding that in a return statement all local variables are automatically xvalues (expiring values) and will be moved, but I'm unsure if that only applies to the returned object itself. So OP should go ahead and put that in there until I'm more confident it shouldn't have to be. :) Can anyone clarify if the std::move is necessary? Is the behaviour compiler dependent?

  • C# + Disposing DbConnection and DbCommand and catching error

    - by Eatdoku
    Hi, I am trying to understand DbConnection and DbCommand, and the proper way to dispose those objects after use. Following is the code snippet I have. By using "using statement" on DbConnection and DbCommand, would it be sufficient? I am trying to prevent possible memory leak. 2nd question, Do I have to Dispose DbCommand object? thanks a lot DbProviderFactory fac = DbProviderFactories.GetFactory(this.DatabaseProviderName); using (DbConnection dbConn = fac.CreateConnection()) { dbConn.ConnectionString = this.ConnectionString; using (DbCommand comm = fac.CreateCommand()) { comm.CommandText = "select * from aTable"; comm.Connection = dbConn; DataTable targetTable = new DataTable(); DbDataAdapter facDA = fac.CreateDataAdapter(); facDA.SelectCommand = comm; facDA.Fill(targetTable); //assuming Adapter would open / close connection (right assumption?) //do something with the datatable } }

  • Doctrine inserts when it should update

    - by Goran Juric
I am trying to use do the most simple update query but Doctrine issues an INSERT statement instead of an UPDATE. $q = Doctrine_Query::create() ->from('Image i') ->where('id = ?'); $image = $q->fetchOne($articleId, Doctrine_Core::HYDRATE_RECORD); $image->copyright = "some text"; $image->save(); I have also tried using the example from the manual, but still a new record gets inserted: $userTable = Doctrine_Core::getTable('User'); $user = $userTable->find(2); if ($user !== false) { $user->username = 'Jack Daniels'; $user->save(); } edit: This example from the manual works: $user = new User(); $user->assignIdentifier(1); $user->username = 'jwage'; $user->save(); The funny thing is that I use this on another model and there it works OK. Maybe I have to fetch the whole array graph for this to work (I have another model in a one to many relationship)?

  • Poll: Require Semicolons and Forbid Tables?

    - by George Bailey
There are a few very serious but opinionated and subjective arguments that I know of. Two of them are Whether or not to use semicolons in the event they are optional. There is a vote as here that also includes reasons Whether or not to use tables for non tabular data. There more information here Since the semicolon question arises often in JavaScript and the tables thing in HTML then there are probably many who run into both. I sort of expect a person who is strict with semicolons also to be strict about avoiding tables. I will post four CW answers here to vote on. Please vote what you think is right. If you want to talk about the reasons then please use Semicolons: Do you recommend using semicolons after every statement in JavaScript? Tables: Start your own question under the polls tag and follow the design of the semicolons question.

  • net.sf.hibernate.PropertyAccessException: Null value was assigned to a property of primitive type

    - by lot
Hi! What might be reasons for running in the quoted exception upon a HQL select, when there is actually no NULL value in the respective field in the database? I've checked the database multiple times. I've manually submitted the query statement produced by hibernate (extracted from debug). Null values for the respective field are actually never returned. However, the corresponding row in the database is in fact nullable. Does hibernate care about the data base definition? I know, I could simple change the filed to a wrapper type, but we have a number of such fields in a legacy application and this only occurs upon a single query. I'm just wondering about the actual reason for getting this exception only with a single property. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

  • RAII: Initializing data member in const method

    - by Thomas Matthews
In RAII, resources are not initialized until they are accessed. However, many access methods are declared constant. I need to call a mutable (non-const) function to initialize a data member. Example: Loading from a data base struct MyClass { int get_value(void) const; private: void load_from_database(void); // Loads the data member from database. int m_value; }; int MyClass :: get_value(void) const { static bool value_initialized(false); if (!value_initialized) { // The compiler complains about this call because // the method is non-const and called from a const // method. load_from_database(); } return m_value; } My primitive solution is to declare the data member as mutable. I would rather not do this, because it suggests that other methods can change the member. How would I cast the load_from_database() statement to get rid of the compiler errors?

  • C# Entity Framework Base Repository

    - by Andy
I'm trying to create a base repository for use with Entity Framework 4.0 and having some trouble. In this code below, why is it not possible to do this in one line? public IEnumerable<T> GetAll<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter) { IEnumerable<T> allCustomers = this.GetAll<T>(); IEnumerable<T> result = allCustomers.Where(filter.Compile()); return result; } Won't this result in 2 SQL statements: one without a where clause that retrieves all rows, and one with a where clause that only retrieves the rows that match the predicate? How can this be done with a single SQL statement? I can't get it to compile if I try to cast the filter.Compile() to Func<Customer, bool>. Thanks, Andy

  • JQuery cookie access has stopped working for GAE app

    - by Greg
I have a google app engine app that has been running for some time, and some javascript code that checks for a login cookie has suddenly stopped working. As far as I can tell, NO code has changed. The relevant code uses the jquery cookies plugin (jquery.cookies.2.2.0.min.js)... // control the default screen depending // if someone is logged in if( $.cookies.get('dev_appserver_login') != null || $.cookies.get('ACSID') != null ) { alert("valid cookie!") $("#inventory-container").show(); } else { alert("INvalid cookie!") $("#welcome-container").show(); } The reason for the two checks is that in the GAE SDK, the cookies are named differently. The production system uses 'ACSID'. This if statement works in the SDK and now fails 100% of the time in production. I have verified that the cookie is, in fact, present when I inspect the page. Thoughts?

  • What is the impact/limitation of oracle select with large number of bind variables?

    - by Igal Serban
We had our oracle server chocking during processing a select statement with close to 3500(!!) bind variables. This select is, obviously, build dynamically by code that we can't change. During the execution of this select the db server went to 100% cpu usage and our system almost halted. We know how to reproduce this problem. So we can prevent this specific condition. But I am wondering if there is a way to protect the db ( by configuration) from this type of problems.

  • problem in counting two fields in one query

    - by Mac Taylor
    hey guys i need to count new private messages and old one from a table so first thing come to mind is using mysql_num_rows and easy thing to do // check new pms $user_id = $userinfo['user_id']; $sql = "SELECT author_id FROM bb3privmsgs_to WHERE user_id='$user_id' AND (pm_new='1' OR pm_unread='1')"; $result = $db->sql_query($sql) ; $new_pms = $db->sql_numrows($result); $db->sql_freeresult($result); // check old pms $sql = "SELECT author_id FROM bb3privmsgs_to WHERE user_id='$user_id' AND (pm_new='0' OR pm_unread='0')"; $result = $db->sql_query($sql) ; $old_pms = $db->sql_numrows($result); $db->sql_freeresult($result); but how can i count these two fields just in one statement and shorter lines ?~

  • InvalidOperationException sequence contains more than one element even when only one element

    - by user310256
I have three tables, tblCompany table, tblParts table and a link table between them tblLinkCompanyParts. Since tblLinkCompanyParts is a link table so the columns that it has are LinkCompanyPartID(primary key), CompanyID from tblCompany table and PartID from tblParts as foreign keys. I have tied them up in the dbml file. In code if I write LinkCompanyParts.Parts (where LinkCompanyParts is an object of the tblLinkCompanyParts type) to get to the corresponding Part object I get the "InvalidOperationException: Sequence constains more than one element". I have looked at the data in the database and there is only one Parts record associated with the LinkCompanyPartID. The stack trace reads like at System.Linq.Enumerable.SingleOrDefault[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at System.Data.Linq.EntityRef`1.get_Entity() at ... I read about SingleOrDefault vs FirstOrDefault but since the link table should have a one-one mapping therefore I think SingleOrDefault should work and besides "SingleOrDefault" statement is being generated behind the scenes in the designer.cs file at the following line return this._Part.Entity; Any ideas?

  • Perl : localtime with print

    - by kiruthika
Hi all, I have used the following statements to get the current time. print "$query executed successfully at ",localtime; print "$query executed successfully at ",(localtime); print "$query executed successfully at ".(localtime); Output executed successfully at 355516731103960 executed successfully at 355516731103960 executed successfully at Wed Apr 7 16:55:35 2010 The first two statements are not printing the current time in a date format. Third statement only giving the correct output in a date format. My understanding is the first one is returning a value in scalar context,so it is returning numbers. Then in the second print I used localtime in list context only, why it's also giving number output.

  • UISegemnted COntrol - selecting 3rd segment activates second segment

    - by diggers25
I have a segmented control with 3 defined segments. i am looking to capture the segment index so I can use it in an if statement to update variables accordingly as such: -(IBAction)numPlayers:(id)sender; { numPlayersSegment = [(UISegmentedControl *)sender retain]; if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex == 0) { numOfPlayers = 2; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 1) { numOfPlayers = 3; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 2) { numOfPlayers = 4; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = -1) { numOfPlayers = 0; } NSLog(@"Players selected = %d", numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex); However whenever I press the third segment (index 2) it returns the value of the second segment (index 1) and also highlights the 2nd segment. I can see nothing untoward in IB. Has anybody seen this and have any suggestions. I am using xcode 3.2.1 on snow leopard thanks
