  • Debian 5 server is randomly shutting down.

    My debian 5 vps is suffering from random shutdowns. I reinstalled it several times, the hosts moved me to a different physical box, check the install image and said everyone else also uses it and is fine.     I'm calling to_xml on an ActiveRecord object with both :only and :methods parameters. The method that I'm including returns a collection for AR objects. This works fine without the :only param, but when that is added I just get the default to_s representation of my objects. i.e <author><books>#&lt;Book:0x107753228&gt;</books>\n</author> Any ideas? I like to use JSDoc notations in my scripts because I know other people will be hacking at it sooner or later.   • Problems connecting Centos to the network when running in VMWare

    Hi, I installed CentOs on VMware running on windows XP. When trying to configure it to connect to the internet, I get an error message when trying to bring up the network interface: [root@VMLinux ~]# /et/init.d/network start Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ] Bringing up interface eth0: Determining IP information for eth0... failed [FAILED] VM is running on a machine that has access to the network, I tried it on two different networks that have DHCP enabled. I tried to configure VMWare to use a bridged connection as well as NAT connection. An image of Ubuntu runs fine on the same VMware. What am I missing here? Thanks.

  • MySQL open files limit

    This question is similar to set open_files_limit, but there was no good answer. I need to increase my table_open_cache, but first I need to increase the open_files_limit. I set the option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf: open-files-limit = 8192 This worked fine in my previous install (Ubuntu 8.04), but now in Ubuntu 10.04, when I start the server up, open_files_limit is reported to be 1710. That seems like a pretty random number for the limit to be clipped to. Anyway, I tried getting around it by adding a line like this in /etc/security/limits.conf: mysql hard nofile 8192 I also tried adding this to the pre-start script in mysql's upstart config (/etc/init/mysql.conf): ulimit -n 8192 Obviously neither of those things worked. So where is the hoop that has been added between Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04 through which I must jump in order to actually increase the open files limit?

    Hi, I'd like to make an ajax call as a POST, it's going to go to my servlet. I want to send parameterized data, like the following: var mydata = 'param0=some_text&param1=some_more_text'; I supply this as the 'data' parameter of my jquery ajax() call. So this should be inserted in the body of the POST, right? (I mean, not appended to my 'mysite/save' url?): $.ajax({ url: 'mysite/save', type: 'POST', data: mydata }); it appears to work correctly. In my servlet, I am just dumping all received parameters, and I see them all come through nicely: private void printParams(HttpServletRequest req) { Enumeration paramNames = req.getParameterNames(); while (paramNames.hasMoreElements()) { // print each param key/val here. } } also, I should url encode my data string manually before use, right?     The Problem: I have two View Controllers loaded into a root View Controller. Both sub view layouts respond to orientation changes. I switch between the two views using [UIView transformationFromView:...]. Both sub views work fine on their own, but if... Views are swapped Orientation Changes Views are swapped again the View that was previously hidden has serious layout problems. The more I repeat these steps the worse the problem gets. Implementation Details I have three viewsControllers. MyAppViewController A_ViewController B_ViewController A & B ViewControllers have a background image each, and a UIWebView and an AQGridView respectively. UPDATE: I just noticed that when the orientation is landscape, the transition flips vertically, when I would expect it to be horizontal. To give you some background, I'm translating a bunch of JSON into a proper model object so it's easier to work with. Now, I'm trying to display this in an NSOutlineView. This is where the problem is. I have checked that the method is taking in the correct object (I checked [item class] description], and it is the right object), but for some reason if I call any of the objects accessors the app immediately crashes. This is totally puzzling because in the init method, I can iterate through root (an array of RoadModel objects), and print any of its properties without issue. It is only when I'm trying to access the properties in any of the datasource methods that this occurs. I wonder if there is something memory-wise that is going on behind the scenes and I am not providing for it. If you can shed some light on to this situation, it would be greatly appreciated!   • Why isn't my algorithm for find the biggest and smallest inputs working?

    I have started a new job, and with it comes a new language: Ironpython. Thankfully a good language :D Before starting I got to grips with Python on the whole, but that was only a week's worth of learning. Now I'm writing actual code. I've been charged with writing an algorithm that finds the best input parameter to collect data with. The basic algorithm is (as I've been instructed): Set the input parameter to a good guess Start collecting data When data is available stop collecting find the highest point If the point before this (i.e. for the previous parameter value) was higher and the point before that was lower then we've found the max otherwise the input parameter is increased by the initial guess. goto 2 If the max is found then the min needs to be found. To do this the algorithm carries on increasing the input, but by 1/10 of the max, until the current point is greater than the previous point and the point before that is also greater. Once the min is found then the algorithm stops. The problem I am getting is that the algorithm is not coming up with the best input being PI/2 and the final input being PI, but I can't see why. Also the best and final inputs are different each time I run the programme. Can anyone see why? Also when the algorithm terminates the best and final inputs are printed to the screen multiple times, not just once. Can someone explain why?

  • Why does this valid Tkinter code crash when mixed with a bit of PyWin32?

    So I'm making a very small program for personal use in tkinter, and I've run into a really strange wall. I'm mixing tkinter with the pywin32 bindings because I really hate everything to do with the syntax and naming conventions of pywin32, and it feels like tkinter gets more done with far less code. The strangeness is happening in the transition between the pywin32 clipboard watching and my program's reaction to it in tkinter. My window and all its controls are being handled in tkinter. The pywin32 bindings are doing clipboard watching and clipboard access when the clipboard changes. From what I've gathered about the way the clipboard watching pieces of pywin32 work, you can make it work with anything you want as long as you provide pywin32 with the hwnd value of your window. I'm doing that part, and it works when the program first starts. It just doesn't seem to work when the clipboard changes. When the program launches, it grabs the clipboard and puts it into the search box and edit box just fine. When the clipboard is modified, the event I want to fire off is firing off...except that event that totally worked before when the program launched is now causing a weird hang instead of doing what it's supposed to do. I can print the clipboard contents to stdout all I want if the clipboard changes, but not put that same data into a tkinter widget. It only hangs like that if it starts to interact with any of my tkinter widgets after being fired off by a clipboard change notification. It feels like there's some pywin32 etiquette I've missed in adapting the clipboard-watching sample code I was using over to my tkinter-using program. Tkinter apparently doesn't like to produce stack traces or error messages, and I can't really even begin to know what to look for trying to debug it with pdb.     I'm trying to set up an NFS server on a Gentoo VM. I've installed nfs-utils-1.2.2 and added the following line to the /etc/exports file: /root/svn 10.0.0.0/255.0.0.0(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) However, when I try to start the nfs service I get the following errors: gentoo-amd64-francis orig # /etc/init.d/nfs start FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.24-9-pve/modules.dep: No such file or directory * Exporting NFS directories ... [ ok ] * Starting NFS mountd ... [ !! ] * Starting NFS daemon ... [ !! ] * Starting NFS smnotify ... [ ok ] It complains about not finding the /lib/modules/2.6.24-9-pve/modules.dep file, but the /lib/modules directory doesn't even exist on this machine. Can anyone help me getting it to work?

  • Added user to CentOS, Updated sshd_config with AllowUsers, Login denied

    CentOS 5.3. I can SSH into the system as root just fine. Added a user and set their password. They have shell access (/bin/bash). I can su to the account from root just fine. I updated /etc/ssh/sshd_config with: AllowUsers myNewUser And restarted sshd: /etc/init.d/sshd restart When trying to ssh into the server with the new user, I get a permission denied. And yes, I've double and triple checked that I am using the correct password. Any help is appreciated.

    I'm setting up a new Ubuntu 14.04 server and followed these instructions to install kippo (the SSH Honeypot). To run kippo, I do: su kippo ~/kippo/start.sh The contents of start.sh is simply: #!/bin/sh echo -n "Starting kippo in background..." authbind --deep twistd -y kippo.tac -l log/kippo.log --pidfile kippo.pid Which starts up a background process for kippo. What can I do to make this automatically run on startup? Do I need to add a script that calls this in /etc/init.d?

  • Kindle Fire: PopupMenu$OrientationChangeListener leak

    I have a little popup menu that anchors on a button in the action bar. This works well on 3.0/3.1 Xoom and Galaxy tabs, and a 4.1 Nexus 7. However, on a 7" Fire HD (this one), I get an error about a leaked intent receiver when exiting the application. The error occurs only if the menu was not opened during that run. There is no mention of OrientationChangeListener in the one copy of the source I've found; I suspect Amazon has a different implementation. Questions: Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a workaround or a fix? (Where) can I find Amazon's source code? Finally, (shudder) how important is it that I don't leak a receiver on application exit?   • Can't star SSH on Ubuntu 12.10 AWS EC2

    So i've just started playing around with Ubuntu on Amazon EC2. I've just issued the following command to restart ssh but it has now "killed" ssh. sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart I can't seem to ssh to this instance anymore. Putty just gives me "connection refused". NOTE: In this case I just restarted SSH to see the result. I didn't change any settings. This was to confirm that it was the restart command was the problem and not any configs I made. What is the correct way to restart SSH? P.S. That usually works on other Ubuntu boxes. Thanks. EDIT: It is also worth noting that when I ran that command I was taken straight back to a prompt. I didn't get any output on the console.

    Quick question, does Kohana (version 3) automatically escape data that is passed into ORM::factory..... (and everywhere else that has to do with the database)? For example: $thread = ORM::factory('thread', $this->request->param('id')); Would the data passed in the second argument be auto-escaped before it goes in the SQL query or do I have to manually do it? Probably a stupid question and it's better to be safe than sorry, but yeah... I usually do manually escape the data, but I want to know if Kohana does this for me? Thanks

    I'm trying to use a multidimensional array in VHDL and I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to work properly. My issue is that I've got an array of 17, of 16 vectors, of a given size. What I want to do is create 17 registers that are array of 16 * std_logic_vector of 32 bits (which = my b, 512). So, I'm trying to pass in something to input and output on the register instantiation that tells the compiler/synthesizer that I want to pass in something that is 512 bits worth... Similar to in C if I had: int var[COLS][ROWS][ELEMENTS]; memcpy(&var[3].. // I'm talking about 3rd COL here, passing in memory that is ROWS*ELEMENTS long (My actual declaration is here:) type partial_pipeline_registers_type is array (0 to 16, 0 to 15) of std_logic_vector(iw - 1 downto 0); signal h_blk_pipelined_input : partial_pipeline_registers_type; I tried simply using h_blk_pipelined_input(0) .. up to (16) but this doesn't work. I get the following error, which makes me see that I need to double index in to the array: ERROR:HDLParsers:821 - (at the register) Wrong index type for h_blk_pipelined_input. So then I tried what's below, and I get this error: ERROR:HDLParsers:164 - (at the register code). parse error, unexpected TO, expecting COMMA or CLOSEPAR instantiate_h_pipelined_reg : regn generic map ( N=> b, init => bzeros ) port map ( clk => clk , rst => '0', en => '1', input => h_blk_pipelined_input((i - 1), 0 to 15), output=> h_blk_pipelined_input((i), 0 to 15)); -- Changing 0 to 15 to (0 to 15) has no effect... I'm using XST, and from their documentation (http://www.xilinx.com/itp/xilinx6/books/data/docs/xst/xst0067_9.html), the above should have worked: ...declaration: subtype MATRIX15 is array(4 downto 0, 2 downto 0) of STD_LOGIC_VECTOR (7 downto 0); A multi-dimensional array signal or variable can be completely used: Just a slice of one row can be specified: MATRIX15 (4,4 downto 1) <= TAB_B (3 downto 0); One alternative is that I can create more registers that are 16 times smaller, and instead of trying to do all '0 to 15' at once, I would just do that 15 additional times. However, I think this may lead to inefficiency in synthesis and I don't feel like this is the right solution. EDIT: Tried what Ben said, instantiate_h_m_qa_pipeline_registers: for i in 1 to 16 generate instantiate_h_pipelined_reg : regn generic map ( N=> b, init => bzeros ) port map ( clk => clk , rst => '0', en => '1', input => h_blk_pipelined_input(i - 1), output=> h_blk_pipelined_input(i)); end generate instantiate_h_m_qa_pipeline_registers; The signals are now defined as: type std_logic_block is array (0 to 15) of std_logic_vector(iw - 1 downto 0) ; type partial_pipeline_registers_type is array (0 to 16) of std_logic_block; signal h_blk_pipelined_input : partial_pipeline_registers_type; And the error I get from XST is: ERROR:HDLParsers:800 - ((where the register part is)) Type of input is incompatible with type of h_blk_pipelined_input. I'm able to do everything I was able to do before, using ()() syntax instead of ( , ) so I haven't lost anything going this way, but it still doesn't resolve my problem.
