• Backup SQL server db issue: delete old backup files

  I tried to use sqlmaint.exe tool to back up a database on a remote PC. Here is an example of backup: sqlmaint.exe -S remoteSQLServer\SQLInstance -U username -P pwdxxx -D myDB -BkUpMedia DISK -BkUpDB C:\MSSQL_Backups -DelBkUps 3days ... Here I specified to delete backups older than 3 days. However, the job seems not deleting old bak files on the remote PC(where the SQL server sits). The remote PC has Windows 2008 Server. I also set the C:\MSQL_Backups as shared network drive for EnyOne as owner. My understanding is that the job will delete any bak files older than 3 days. Not sure what I missed? By the way, the job runs at a box with SQL server 2005 installed.

• EC2 Apache Server not reflecting changes to PHP files

  We're running a Laravel application on an Amazon EC2 server with Apache installed. I've noticed on multiple occasions, that the server doesn't respond to changes in PHP files, even after restarting Apache. For example, if I edit a file that I'm accessing through a URL, and I break the syntax, I don't even get a PHP exception thrown. This is really strange, and has been sticking its head out more frequently these days. Is it possible Apache is caching the PHP files somewhere? Opcode caching perhaps?

• Use .bat file to recursively loop through folders and get hold of .class files

  HI all, This is what i'm trying to do. I have a .bat file which takes in a argument which is nothing but a folder name. What i do first is go one level up (cd ..). Now in this directory i have 3 folders and each folders have sub-folders and have .class files in them. What i want to do is recursively loop through the folders and get hold of the .class files. Once this is done i want to echo the target folder of the .class file as well as echo the name of the.class file. So c:\temp\potter\myclass.class. I would echo out c:\temp\potter\ and myclass. I'm able to do this by writing a separate bat file which works. But when i integrate this with the recursive function it seems to break.   Hi, Through the housekeeping stuff my android application has to do is to read and write some files and sometimes to delete others and create new ones. The files in cause have all "sdcard/" as root. Is it safe if I perform all this task using Java style functions ? To me it is very handy to do it this way but I've read that not always the java functions can be applied when it comes to files in Android.

• How to create *.idx subtitle files

  I am trying to play movies from a USB drive on my DVD player. I have subtitles for different languages for a movie. (filename.en.srt, filename.fr.srt etc) When I place all the *.srt files in the same directory as the movie file, the DVD player recognises only the first one. However, if there is only one *.sub file which contains all the language subtitles, and an indexer *.idx file, then the DVD player is able to recognise all the language subtitles. Can I create an *.idx file manually? Or Is there any software which allows me to create an idx file that indexes multiple *.srt files or combines them?

  I am planning on moving my static files to Google's App Engine. I was wondering if this is a good idea to do. I have read that is it possible that Google will cache your files on multiple locations, which is a good thing in my opinion. The setup should also be quite easy in eclipse with the GAE plugins. But i still have my doubts on the performance of this. Is the setup of App Engine optimized for serving static content. Now I have Nginx server my static content, will App Engine perform the same way. Are there any other ups or downs using this method?

• $_POST goes empty after adding a new input type "file"

  Hi, I'm not finding a way to understand and fix this and I've done a lot. I've got a script, wish is a simple form, that sends a file trough POST. The second file, process the info. By default, I give to the user a few fields, one of them being a input field of type "file" and there's also, a few "hidden" one's, that gives me values to work with on POST. I found that, when adding a new input of type "file", the $_POST returns array 0, even $_FILES returns nothing. I have no idea how to fix this, and it works just fine when keeping the default input box of type "file". This is the form http://pastie.org/872488 This only happens when: Exists! var_dump( $_POST ), or $_FILES, print_r(), etc Returns nothing. I've tryed to create a array on the input of type "files", like img_p_child[], but nothing. How to solve this ? Thanks for taking your time!

  Hi, im wondering if anyone knows of any host providers ( uk preferably ) that deals mostly with accepting large file uploads. Most hosts only let you push something like 1.5mb ( thats taking into account the connection and the max execution time ). What i am looking for is a host specificaly for storing files on. I was going to create an upload script onto my application which posted the file to the external host and then return back ( using headers so the user doen't even know they have left ). Does anyone know of a host for this?

• Log Files from bash script output

  I have a script that runs (this works fine). I'd like to produce logfiles from its output and still show it on screen. I have this command that creates three files from this blog: ((./fk.sh 2>&1 1>&3 | tee errors.log) 3>&1 1>&2 | tee output.log) 2>&1 | tee final.log This does exactly what I want it to. My only issue is that I create files in my script and copy them somewhere, and I'd like to copy these logfiles there too, which I can't do whilst this script is running. I also wanted to make it easier for any user to run my script, so I created another script to run this script. According to this post (see last post) I can put a . before the script name and I can use variables assigned in my called script from the first script if I use them in the first. It doesn't seem to work though and I can't figure out why or find alternative methods. Can anyone help?

  I just switched from Eclipse to NetBeans IDE 6.8 for my PHP/Ajax development. Eclipse always showed a little hard disk symbol over the file icon for files that were in sync with the svn repository, and an asterisk for files with changes that have not been committed. Is there a way to see the commit status in NetBeans? If not, what is your preferred way of recognizing which files to commit?

• Wine not finding some files

  I'm having strange issues with Wine : If I look a C:\windows\system32\drivers\ in wine explorer, the directory looks empty, while the directory ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/drivers is not. Plus, having the H: drive mapped to my home directory, I can look at H:\.wine\drive_c\windows\system32\drivers and it is not empty, the files are here ! Thus it seems Wine has the rights to access these files. So why don't they appear on the C: drive ? Some of my programs need them. • Change permission of files with the owner 'apache'

  Hay, i have some files on my server with the owner set to "apache", I'm not quite sure how this happened. Anyway, i need to change the permission of these files to 0777 so i can download/edit them. However i cannot. I'm using a 1and1 Linux server and use Plesk to administrate it. I have the ability to login via SSH. However, if i run chmod or chown i get a "permission denied" error, and if i try to sudo chmod or chown it says the command cannot be found. When i go to edit my domain details, i get this option Shell access to server with FTP user's credentials and have these options /bin/sh /bin/bash /sbin/nologin /bin/bash (chrooted) /bin/rbash Any idea's how i should go about changing the permissions or changing the owner? • Can't access files on external drive after reformatting Macbook Pro

  I recently had to reformat my Macbook Pro, and imported my account and settings from Time Machine via the Migration Assistant. Everything on the Mac itself is fine, but now I don't have permission to access almost everything on my external drive. A number of folders have the little red 'no access' sign on them and I can't rename or move anything. Looking at the info for these files, it appears that access rights were attached only to my old user account. Is there some way to reassign these files and folders to my new user account? Thanks.

• How to manage Libraries/jar files in eclipse?

  I might be missing something but how do you manage Java projects in eclipse that need a lot of Jar files. I know maven manages libraries well if there are new updates but maybe I'm missing something, is there a way that eclipse can update new jar files (it would be especially useful for projects using apache-commons, say). I don't want to sound like asking for a feature request, but I'm looking at if there are ways to keep libraries jar files that a Java project uses to keep them updated automatically the way maven does. With more languages coming with this type of features, finding the right Jar files probably should be easier than this.

  EDIT: Looks like the problem was a rootkit that corrupted a bunch of low level linux commands, including top, ps, ifconfig, netstat and others. The problem was resolved by taking all web files off the server and wiping it. A dedicated server we operate is having a strange issue. Files are not be sent complete or are showing up with garbage data. Example: http://sustainablefitness.com/images/banner_bootcamps.jpg To make matters more confusing this corruption does NOT happen when the files are served as https, (I would post a link, but I don't have enough rep points, just add an 's' after http in the link above.) When I throw load at the server, I get dozens of (swapd)s in top this is the only thing that really jumps out. I can't post images but ( imgur.com / ZArSq.png ) is a screenshot of top. • Storage setup for large files

  I need to store over 200TB of data (all types, biggest being video files) and be able to access it over a local network. The files will be accessed for editing or searches. I don't need versioning, but a setup that would keep me safe from harddrive failures would be nice. Right now the content is on different harddrives, some external drives, some regular. I don't exclude the possibility of buying new/extra drives if necessary. If they will ever be exposed to the web, it wont be to the public, but just a couple of people. I have no idea what to buy to make this happen. I see some NAS solutions over the internet like this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/a/2266043.p?id=1218317764591&skuId=2266043 but the storage is not enough, plus it doesn't seem to be scalable. What do you recommend? Thanks

• Windows 7 Sub-Folders hidden in "Program Files" directory

  I have Google searched for an hour now and I am confounded. I am using InnoSetup to install a .NET Winforms application that creates directories and folders on the fly. (I have set the folder options to display hidden files, folders...) Although the files that are added to "created" folders appear within the application, they do not show when using Windows Explorer or even when issuing a Dir from a command prompt. I have also modified the application to display (and delete) the contents of these (seemingly imaginary) folders, so I am sure they exist. What am I missing?

Is there anything wrong with the syntax or just simple error?

According to RFC 959 the FTP command LIST is allowed to print arbitrary human-readable information on files/folders, which seems to make it impossible to determine the file type correctly. But how do other FTP clients manage to distinguish files and folders? Is there an unwritten standard or such?
