• Downloading large files with AFNetworking

  I'm trying to implement downloading of a large file and show to user current progress, but block in: -[AFURLConnectionOperation setDownloadProgressBlock:] returns incorrect bytesRead and totalBytesRead values (they are smaller than they should be). For example: If I have a 90MB file and when it downloads completely, latest block invocation in setDownloadProgressBlock: gives me totalBytesRead value about 30MB. On other side, if file is 2MB large, latest block invocation gives correct totalBytesRead 2MB value. AFNetworking is updated to the latest version from github. If AFNetworking can't do it correctly, what solution can I use? Edit: I've determined that even if file is not downloaded completely (and this happens every time with relatively big file) AFNetworking calls success block in: -[AFHTTPRequestOperation setCompletionBlockWithSuccess:failure] I asked a similar question here about this situation, but didn't get any answers. I can check in code downloaded and real file sizes, but AFNetworking has no API for continuation of partial download.

• get the installed path of a vb.net application

  Hi guys... I'm nearly ready to distribute my vb.net application. I have several picturebox files which are loaded currently from c:/temp I need to change this directory to one that will be OK to use when the user installs it to their PC. My question is how can I do this? Is there a way to get the installation path, then use that within the code as a variable? eg: myInstalledPath & "/xxx.jpg" Or... would it be better for me to use mypictures within the mydocuments structure? I'd rather keep all the image files created in a folder which is more hidden from the user (by hidden I mean not cluttering up their own image folders!) I've tried searching for this, but I seem to get varying results with no real answers... (possibly searching for the wrong thing!)

• How can I test whether a csv file is currently open and being written to - the file, not a file hand

  I've seen a few questions/answers here that deal with this, but none really give me an answer/solution. I've got a Clipper system writing csv files to a Windows directory. I have a perl script running on a Linux server that is reading a mount of that Windows directory and importing the files to a database. Right now we're using flag files to indicate when a csv is no longer being written to; the flag files gets written after the csv is done. I'd really rather just get what I need from the csv itself, but I can't seem to find a way to tell when the file is open and being written to. lsof doesn't seem to answer my need. I've tried using flock and open the file with an exclusive lock, thinking it might throw an error if the file is being modified, but it doesn't. Any thoughts?

  Hi, I'm working as a QA (Software Tester with 3 years of experience) and was thinking of getting some certifications for my career. I already have the ISTQB certification and was thinking of doing SCJP along with MCTS 70-433 certification (SQL Server 2008 Database Development) as the next move. So my question is this: 1) Who should go for the 70-433 certification and is it worth going for, for a career in QA? 2) What would be a good book to study for this? I'm just looking for a simple book that is written just to the point and not much bloated up such as technical bibles. Not that they aren't good but they just take up too much of time. Maybe something similar to the one written by Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates for SCJP. It is written in a very simple language and is enough to do SCJP. Edit: I'm still searching for answers to this. In theory this must throw IOException("Exception rised.") and the whole method retIntExc() must throws Exception. But nothing happens, the method returns 2. I've not tested his example, but I think that this isn't the expected behavior. EDIT: Thanks for all answers. Some of you have ignored the fact that method is called retIntExc, which means that this is only some test/experimental example, showing problem in throwing/catching mechanics. I didn't need 'fix', I needed explanation why this happens.

  I recently started a small personal project (RGB value to BGR value conversion program) in C, and I realised that a function that converts from RGB to BGR can not only perform the conversion but also the inversion. Obviously that means I don't really need two functions rgb2bgr and bgr2rgb. However, does it matter whether I use a function pointer instead of a macro? For example: int rgb2bgr (const int rgb); /* * Should I do this because it allows the compiler to issue * appropriate error messages using the proper function name, * not to mention possible debugging benefits? */ int (*bgr2rgb) (const int bgr) = rgb2bgr; /* * Or should I do this since it is merely a convenience * and they're really the same function anyway? */ #define bgr2rgb(bgr) (rgb2bgr (bgr)) I'm not necessarily looking for a change in execution efficiency as it's more of a subjective question out of curiosity. • The cost of finalize in .Net

  (1) I've read a lot of questions about IDisposable where the answers recommend not using Finalize unless you really need to because of the process time involved. What I haven't seen is how much this cost is and how often it's paid. Every millisecond? second? hour, day etc. (2) Also, it seems to me that Finalize is handy when its not always known if an object can be disposed. For instance, the framework font class. A control can't dispose of it because it doesn't know if the font is shared. The font is usually created at design time so the user won't know to dispose it, therefore finalize kicks in to finally get rid of it when there are no references left. Is that a correct impression?

Both language are type-aware, so you can do verifications such as: if (some_object_instance is SomeClassName_ThatIs_SomeType) I'm doing these kind of verifications in a few places. • Where is the best place to put <script> tags in HTML markup?

  When embedding JavaScript in an HTML document, where is the best place to put the <script> tags and included JavaScript? I seem to recall that you are not supposed to place these in the <head> section, but placing at the beginning of the <body> section is bad, too, since the JavaScript will have to be parsed before the page is rendered completely (or something like that). This seems to leave the end of the <body> section as a logical place for <script> tags. So, where is the best place to put the <script> tags? (This question references this question, in which it was suggested that JavaScript function calls should be moved from <a> tags to <script> tags. I'm specifically using JQuery, but more general answers are also appropriate.)

The answer is 23 (I hope this covers ambiguous and vague part) I searched on the net but was unable to find any such question in which range of integers was not fixed. Also here is an example that answers a similar question to mine but here he created a hash table with the highest integer value in C++.But the cpp does not allow such to create an array with 2^64 element(on a 64-bit computer).

• Using fonts that aren't on iPhone

  I'd like to use some fonts that aren't part of the iPhone OS. I've seen games that use non standard fonts. I can install the fonts, create images for each one in Photoshop and then use those images in the iPhone app. However, I don't think that is a practical way to go. If the color or tint needs to be adjusted (because of background) or size, I'll have to redesign every font I'm using. Is there a better way to do this? I read this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/360751/can-i-embed-a-custom-font-in-an-iphone-application and downloaded the open source font label app. However, it crashes most of the time when I try using particular fonts. In regards to the last comment about using UIFont with the fontWithName:size, that certainly doesn't work. Your font variable will be nil. Listing all available fonts reveals why - none of the custom fonts are in the list. I've also read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/566054/how-do-i-include-a-font-with-my-iphone-application, which definitely does not work. Same as last comment in above link.

  I am a web developer, have worked with PHP and .NET both. having over a year of experience working on web I haven't been able to understand the browser caching features thoroughly, I hope Web Gurus here can help me with it. Questions I have in my mind are : How does browser actually caches stuff, does it request for to see if the cached file has changed on the server or not, What is the Ideal way for a developer to make use of browser chaching to its full, but also to be able to push new changes on the site with no hassle at all. I think if browser somehow chaches my CSS and JS and Images, and then just makes a checks for their modification to the server everytime, this can sort the issue. but I am not sure how to do it, waiting for interesting answers :)

• Displaying a collection of objects in a .Net grid on a smartphone without data binding.

  I know there's No DataGridView in the CF, but I've got a collection of in-memory objects that I want to display in a grid on a phone. Options I have thought of: Stick all the objects into a SQL-CE database and use a bound datagrid. This'll mean pulling my classes apart and separating the data from the functionality, which may or may not be a bad thing, but seems a little overkill. Write my own dataset and binding code so that I can bind my collection of objects to a bound datagrid. No idea how practical or possible this is, but seems like it's either do-able or impossible and I'm hoping someone here knows which! Find a third-party unbound grid control. The only one I've seen mentioned is OpenNetCF, which I'm downloading as I type. Are there others? Are any of them any good? Do something very nasty with dynamically loading labels and textboxes into a scrolling region on the form. REALLY don't want to go there. I'm not much experienced with data-bound controls other than occasionally making use of the very vanilla functionality in WinForms or ASP.Net, and that quite a long time ago, so if any of the above are silly, please be gentle. Same thing on olx.com - location and number of items for each category. • What's the best way to handle web.config file versions in ASP.Net?

  I have an ASP.Net web site (ASPX and ASMX pages) with a single web.config file. We have a development version and a production version. Over time, the web.config files for development and production have diverged substantially. What is the best practice for keeping both versions of web.config in source control (we use Tortoise SVN but I don't think that matters)? It seems like I could add the production web.config file with a name like "web.config.prod", and then when we turnover all the files we would just add the step of deleting the existing web.config and renaming web.config.prod to web.config. This seems hackish, although I'm sure it would work. Is there not some mechanism for dealing with this built in to Visual Studio? It seems like this would be a common issue, but I haven't found any questions (with answers) about this.

  i have made an application project in vs 08 c#, sql server from vs 08. the database has like 20 tables and many fields in each have made an interface for adding deleting editting and retrieving data according to predefined needs of the users. now i have to 1) make to project in to a software which i can deliver to professor. that is he can just double click the icon and the software simply starts. no vs 08 needed to start the debugging 2) the database will be on one powerful computer (dual core latest everything win xp) and the user will access it from another computer connected using LAN i am able to change the connection string to the shared database using vs 08/ debugger whenever the server changes but how am i supposed to do that when its a software? 3)there will by many clients am i supposed to give the same software to every one, so they all can connect to the database, how will the integrity and correctness of the database be maintained? i mean the db.mdf file will be in a folder which will be shared with read and write access. so its not necessary that only one user will write at a time. so is there any coding for this or? please help me out here i am stuck do not know what to do i have no practical experience, would appreciate all the help thank you

• keyboard in UIWebView shows and then hides itself on input focus

  I have a page that's loading into a UIWebView (which takes 100% of the screen) on an iPad. When I touch a text field, the page positions the text field to the right place and the keyboard starts to come up, but then it turns around and goes back down and blur is called on the input field. When I try this same page in mobile Safari, the keyboard is able to deploy successfully. I can't figure out what the rules are for the keyboard to show successfully and stay up = and why this is different for uiwebview than safari. All my research on the subject has yielded no answers.

• List of Big-O for PHP functions?

  After using PHP for a while now, I've noticed that not all PHP built in functions as fast as expected. Consider the below two possible implementations of a function that finds if a number is prime using a cached array of primes. //very slow for large $prime_array $prime_array = array( 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, .... 104729, ... ); $result_array = array(); foreach( $array_of_number => $number ) { $result_array[$number] = in_array( $number, $large_prime_array ); } //still decent performance for large $prime_array $prime_array => array( 2 => NULL, 3 => NULL, 5 => NULL, 7 => NULL, 11 => NULL, 13 => NULL, .... 104729 => NULL, ... ); foreach( $array_of_number => $number ) { $result_array[$number] = array_key_exists( $number, $large_prime_array ); } This is because in_array is implemented with a linear search O(n) which will linearly slow down as $prime_array grows. Where the array_key_exists function is implemented with a hash lookup O(1) which will not slow down unless the hash table gets extremely populated (in which case it's only O(logn)). So far I've had to discover the big-O's via trial and error, and occasionally looking at the source code. Now for the question... I was wondering if there was a list of the theoretical (or practical) big O times for all* the PHP built in functions. *or at least the interesting ones For example find it very hard to predict what the big O of functions listed because the possible implementation depends on unknown core data structures of PHP: array_merge, array_merge_recursive, array_reverse, array_intersect, array_combine, str_replace (with array inputs), etc.

Now I want to give some tests to that program and check its answers using another program. In another words, I want to write electron judge for that program.
