• C# CF: How to open specific file extension with my program

  Hi, Im developing a mobile application in dot net Compact framework. I managed to edit the registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT so that a click on file with .xyz extension will open my application. basically, i need to do some operation on this file when it's clicked. however, i realise that if i do that the first time, it reaches program.cs at static void Main. but when the program is running and i click on the file with .xyz extension again, it doesnt loads the program static void Main. i tried setting breakpoints at the form that is currently running but still nothing. so where does it go to? how can i detect file .xyz is clicked and do something??

• Compilers behave differently with a null parameter of a generic method

  The following code compiles perfectly with Eclipse, but fails to compile with javac: public class HowBizarre { public static <P extends Number, T extends P> void doIt(P value) { } public static void main(String[] args) { doIt(null); } } I simplified the code, so T is not used at all now. Still, I don't see a reason for the error. For some reason javac decides that T stands for Object, and then complains that Object does not conform to the bounds of T (which is true): HowBizarre.java:6: incompatible types; inferred type argument(s) java.lang.Number,java.lang.Object do not conform to bounds of type variable (s) P,T found : <P,T>void required: void doIt(null); ^ Note that if I replace the null parameter with a non-null value, it compiles fine. Which of the compilers behaves correctly and why? Is this a bug of one of them?

  I have a dilemma. I've used DI (read: factory) to provide core components for a homebrew ORM. The container provides database connections, DAO's,Mappers and their resultant Domain Objects on request. Here's a basic outline of the Mappers and Domain Object classes class Mapper{ public function __constructor($DAO){ $this->DAO = $DAO; } public function load($id){ if(isset(Monitor::members[$id]){ return Monitor::members[$id]; $values = $this->DAO->selectStmt($id); //field mapping process omitted for brevity $Object = new Object($values); return $Object; } } class User(){ public function setName($string){ $this->name = $string; //mark modified by means fair or foul } } The ORM also contains a class (Monitor) based on the Unit of Work pattern i.e. class Monitor(){ private static array modified; private static array dirty; public function markClean($class); public function markModified($class); } The ORM class itself simply co-ordinates resources extracted from the DI container. So, to instantiate a new User object: $Container = new DI_Container; $ORM = new ORM($Container); $User = $ORM->load('user',1); //at this point the container instantiates a mapper class //and passes a database connection to it via the constructor //the mapper then takes the second argument and loads the user with that id $User->setName('Rumpelstiltskin');//at this point, User must mark itself as "modified" My question is this. At the point when a user sets values on a Domain Object class, I need to mark the class as "dirty" in the Monitor class. I have one of three options as I can see it 1: Pass an instance of the Monitor class to the Domain Object. I noticed this gets marked as recursive in FirePHP - i.e. $this-Monitor-markModified($this) 2: Instantiate the Monitor directly in the Domain Object - does this break DI? 3: Make the Monitor methods static, and call them from inside the Domain Object - this breaks DI too doesn't it? What would be your recommended course of action (other than use an existing ORM, I'm doing this for fun...)

• If Possible, How Can One Set Either a Background Color on Cells within a Sizer or Gridlines for the

  I am flailing about with wxWidgets, in particular, the wx.Sizer in wxPython. I have read the documents, I have a copy of wXPython in Action before me, and have set aside the problem to work on other things a better mental model of sizers hopefully gestated within my skull. None of this has worked. I am not grokking, or even getting to the point where I can bang about usefully, how sizers work. In HTML, I could at least set a background color on some div or td, or call forth borders so I could see how things are laid out. Here, I have a grey expanse and no idea which of the nested static box sizers from which it originates. I am giving static box sizers after making a mess out of the grid bag sizers. Either alternative would let me at least get a handle on how these work.

I cannot beleive that the word wrapping information (how many lines are there, where are the line breaks) cannot be extracted from the JTextArea. • Problems with CloseMainWindow() to close a Windows Explorer window

I´m facing a problem when trying to close a Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) window through another application, using the "Process.CloseMainWindow()" method; because it doesn´t close the Explorer window, it tries to close the full Windows (Operative System), by the way, Windows XP.   I have looked at many examples for validating an XML file against a DTD, but have not found one that allows me to use a proxy. • Invalid character in a Base-64 string when Concatenating and Url encoding a string

  I’m trying to write some encryption code that is passed through a Url. For the sake of the issue I’ve excluded the actual encryption of the data and just shown the code causing the problem. I take a salt value, convert it to a byte array and then convert that to a base64 string. This string I concatenate to another base64 string (which was previously a byte array). These two base64 strings are then Url encoded. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. The catch that is in C# code doesn't actually catch it. Why? How to handle this exception? Thank you for your help!

• nul terminating a int array

  Hello, gcc 4.4.4 c89 I was just experimenting with a int array. And something just came to my mind. Can I nul terminate it. For example, I am using a 0 to nul terminate. However, 0 could well be a valid value in this array. The code below will terminate after the 5. Even though I mean 0 to be a valid number. However, I could specify the size of the array. But in this case, I don't want to this as I am just interested in this particular problem. • How to get or own your own IP address?

  The website we running let people register their own URL and redirect to our website to their user account. Lets it is something similar to Blogspot.com where users can have their own URL. The problem is that in order to do this we need to have static IP address for the DNS redirection to work. We can easily get static IP addresses from most hosting companies, but if we change our hosting company it means we will have to force all our users to change their DNS setting to our new IP address. This if very problematic. Is there a way of owning our own IP address that we can take it with us to wherever hosting company we decide to go with? Or there there other easier solutions out there?

• How to inject dependencies into a custom UserNamePasswordValidator in WCF?

  I'm using a UserNamePasswordValidator in WCF along with Unity for my dependency injection, but since WCF creates the instance of the UserNamePasswordValidator, I cannot inject my container into the class. So how would one go about this? The simplest solution I can think of is to create a static proxy/wrapper class around a static instance of a UnityContainer, which exposes all the same methods... This way, any class can access the container, and I don't need to inject it everywhere. So I could just do UnityContainerWrapper.Resolve() anywhere in code. So basically this solution solves 2 problems for me, I can use it in classes that I'm not creating an instance of, and I can use it anywhere without having to inject the container into a bunch of classes. The only downside I can think of is that I'm now potentially exposing my container to a bunch of classes that wouldn't of had access to the container before. Not really sure if this is even a problem though?

• Does the order of readonly variable declarations guarantee the order in which the values are set?

  Say I were to have a few readonly variables for filepaths, would I be able to guarantee the order in which the values are assigned based on the order of declaration? e.g. readonly string basepath = @"my\base\directory\location"; readonly string subpath1 = basepath + @"\abc\def"; readonly string subpath2 = basepath + @"\ghi\klm"; Is this a safe approach or is it possible that basepath may still be the default value for a string at the time subpath1 and subpath2 make a reference to the string? I realize I could probably guarantee the order by assigning the values in a constructor instead of at the time of declaration. However, I believe this approach wouldn't be possible if I needed to declare the variables inside of a static class (e.g. Program.cs for a console application, which has a static void Main() procedure instead of a constructor).

I also have "/xml/customer/123.xml" where 123.xml contains informations about the client ... 123 How can I manage these file paths : 1/ - I create the file path directly in the seralization method ? 2/ I create 2 static class : CustomerSerializationPathManager and ProductSerializationPathManager with 1 method : getPath(int customerID) and getPath(int productID) 3/ I create one static class : SerializationPathManager with 2 method : getCustomerPath(int customerID) and getProductPath(int productID) 4/ something else I'd prefer the solution 3 cause if I think there's only one reason to change this class : I change the root directory.
