• Gaining information from nodes of tree

  I am working with the tree data structure and trying to come up with a way to calculate information I can gain from the nodes of the tree. I am wondering if there are any existing techniques which can assign higher numerical importance to a node which appears less frequently at lower level (Distance from the root of the tree) than the same nodes appearance at higher level and high frequency. To give an example, I want to give more significance to node Book, at level 2 appearing once, then at level 3 appearing thrice. Will appreciate any suggestions/pointers to techniques which achieve something similar. Thanks, Prateek

• How to script indexes, keys, foreign keys in SQL Server

  Hi, I would like to get the details of all indexes, keys, and foreign keys from a database in SQL Server (2008). How do I do this? I plan to use this to synchronize those properties across a couple of somewhat similar databases. I can use SQL Server Management Studio, but I cannot do a full backup of a database because of restrictions set by the web hoster. -- Secondary question that you do not need to answer: Why can't there be something similar to the database schema in Mysql that simply lists all of the database structure in text SQL script format? • Does XercesC contain an extensive logic of XMLSchema validation?

  Tried to implement a small XML validation tool with XercesC. For some reason I cannot use existing validators right from the box - I need some preprocessing and would like to combine it with validation in a single tool. I used DOM parser and specified DOMErrorHandler. Instead of a set of errors with detailed messages like I saw from xmllint for the same xml and xmlschema files, only one message appeared that document has a wrong structure without details. Probably, I did something wrong. But also assume XercesC doesn't contain xmllint functionality right from the box. Does anybody can give me a hint before I spent too much time? Thanks.

• Do minidump files contain the timestamp of the crash?

  The MiscInfoStream in a minidump file contains the process create time. I'd like to find out how long the process has been running for before the crash. Does a minidump file contain the exception timestamp anywhere? WinDbg on this dump file displays the following, which implies that it's in there somewhere... Debug session time: Tue Dec 29 15:49:20.000 2009 (GMT+0) System Uptime: not available Process Uptime: 0 days 0:33:03.000 Note that today's Mar 15, so this is almost certainly the timestamp of the crash. I'd like a programmatic way to retrieve that value and the "Process Uptime" value. I found the MINIDUMP_MISC_INFO_3 structure, which contains some timezone information, but it doesn't seem to contain the exception time.

  i plan to use neurodotnet for my phd thesis, but before that i just want to build some small solutions to get used to the dll structure. the first problem that i want to model using backward propagation is height-weight ratio. I have some height and weight data, i want to train my NN so that if i put in some weight then i should get correct height as a output. i have 1 input 1 hidden and 1 output layer. Now here is first of many things i cant get around :) 1. my height data is in form of 1.422, 1.5422 ... etc and the corresponding weight data is 90 95, but the NN takes the input as 0/1 or -1/1 and given the output in the same range. how to address this problem

• How to tell Eclipse 3.4 WTP to not restart tomcat on JSP save?

  Whenever I save a JSP file in my WTP project, Eclipse restarts its Tomcat instance. This is sorta driving me nuts. I don't want to disable auto reload completely, I just don't want it to happen when I save a file that doesn't require a restart. I'm not sure how Eclipse WTP works in this regard. Could it be my project structure? The JSP files are in WEB-INF/jsp. (this SO question is similar to mine, but doesn't have a sufficient answer) EDIT: I want auto-reloading to happen, but not for file saves that do not require it. When I save a JSP there is no reason to have Tomcat restart. Thus what I'm looking for, if possible, is a smarter way for reloading to happen.

• What are the best options for a root filesystem hosted on SSD under Linux

  I'm working on an embedded system which is going to be booting and hosting it's rootfs on an SSD disk. We are currently looking at using Intel X-18M SSDs. The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

• In Coldfusion, how do I init a component that is located above the current path folder?

  If I have a folder structure that looks like this: / /bin/myComponent.cfc /reports/index.cfm How do I initiate myComponent.cfc from index.cfm? myService = createObject("component", "bin.myComponent"); Using the dot syntax, I know how to go to deeper folders, but how to do I go up a folder, and down into the other folder? Using slash syntax it would be something like this: ../bin/myComponent.cfc But createObject() doesn't work that way. I'd like to keep a relative path so that I can move this folder to another server without breaking the paths. Ideas? Thanks!

• Eclipse antRunner command line build has wrong dependency build order

  My team's Eclipse RCP app builds fine from the Eclipse IDE. When I try to build it from the command line, using the antRunner application, it builds the plugins out of order -- a plugin builds before it's dependencies are built, and so can't resolve some of the needed classes. Where should I look to fix this? As far as I can tell, the dependencies are set up correctly (a feature that depends on a plugin that depends on another plugin). I have my build.properties and folder structure set up as specified here. Is there anything else I should look at?

• How can I download all files of a specific type from a website using PHP?

  I want to get all midi (*.mid) files from a site that's set up pretty simple in terms of directory tree structure. I wish we had wget installed here, but that's another party.... The site is VGMusic.com and the path containing all of the midi files is: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/ I tried glob'ing it out, but I suppose that glob only works locally? • importing same module more than once

  So after a few hours, I discovered the cause of a bug in my application. My app's source is structure like: main/ __init__.py folderA/ __init__.py fileA.py fileB.py Really, there are about 50 more files. But that's not the point. In main/__init__.py, I have this code: from folderA.fileA import * in folderA/__init__.py I have this code: sys.path.append(pathToFolderA) in folderA/fileB.py I have this code: from fileA import * The problem is that fileA gets imported twice. However, I only want to import it once. The obvious way to fix this (to me atleast) is to change certain paths from path to folderA.path But I feel like Python should not even have this error in the first place. What other workarounds are there that don't require each file to know it's absolute location?

• Mixing static and dynamic endpoints in app.yaml file

  I'm trying to describe endpoints in my App Engine app and am having difficulty for directory structures that mix static and dynamic content. But my yaml rules are conflicting with one another. Before I change my directory structure, does anyone have a recommendation? The goal is to create a directory that contains both documentation (static html files) and implementations. /api - /v1 - getitdone.py - doc.html - index.html What I think I should be doing with my application yaml... - url: /api/v1/getitdone script: api/v1/getitdone.py - url: /api/ static_files: api/index.html upload: api/index.html - url: /api static_dir: api But this causes the dynamic endpoints to fail. I'm assuming the static_dir reference is breaking it. How can I do this without describing every script and static file reference (I have many more than are listed here)?

• Discover the environment and relative path of the running application

  Hi, While playing with RubyCocoa, I keep progressing with my idea for my application. Because my application will be going to use configuration files, I would like to know how I discover the relative path to store these inside my application structure (or if a better idea emerges, please elaborate also the "why"). Also good for me to know is to discover environment variables, such as operating system version, the amount of memory that is available and such. Hyperlinks would be awesome too. • yiic webapp problem

  hi, i'm still new to yii framework. so, i want to try running yiic so that i could see the structure of the files created. but, i could not run it in console. Does anyone have a solution? thanks. I'm using wamp on win xp. i go to the directory of the yiic framework its in D:\wamp\www\framework\ and run yiic and any other variations per Larry Ullman's blog. but still got: "..." is not a recognizable internal/ external command... How should i be able to run yiic? thanks.

  I'm doing some queries in Python on a large database to get some stats out of the database. I want these stats to be in-memory so other programs can use them without going to a database. I was thinking of how to structure them, and after trying to set up some complicated nested dictionaries, I realized that a good representation would be an SQL table. I don't want to store the data back into the persistent database, though. Are there any in-memory implementations of an SQL database that supports querying the data with SQL syntax?

• WindowsForms difference to simple Console App

  I currently started to "port" my console projects to WinForms, but it seems I am badly failing doing that. I am simply used to a console structure: I got my classes interacting with each other depending on the input coming from the console. A simple flow: Input -> ProcessInput -> Execute -> Output -> wait for input Now I got this big Form1.cs (etc.) and the "Application.Run(Form1);" But I really got no clue how my classes can interact with the form and create a flow like I described above. I mean, I just have these "...._Click(object sender....)" for each "item" inside the form. Now I do not know where to place / start my flow / loop, and how my classes can interact with the form.

• Multipart question: Mapping between xml and Json using xpath

  This is a JSON mapping question from a json newbie. Currently i'm reading xml using xpath in C#, and the xpath are returning either the element or attribute node values, as is the schema's want. I want to write out some of the returned values into a json formatted file. I know i can faneigle the xpath expression to return the element or attribute names, so I can built the appropriate name/value json structure before serialization, but I was I'm wondering if their was some way of doing a mapping between the xml and json. The xml schema is fairly big, so potentially the mapping will be big, meaning a ton of cumbersom coding to make it work. Is their any way to automap somehow? I was planning to use json.net, which seems flexible enough, although their may be a better approach. Any help would be appreciated. Bob.

• Where to start when programming process synchronization algorithms like clone/fork, semaphores

  I am writing a program that simulates process synchronization. I am trying to implement the fork and semaphore techniques in C++, but am having trouble starting off. Do I just create a process and send it to fork from the very beginning? Is the program just going to be one infinite loop that goes back and forth between parent/child processes? And how do you create the idea of 'shared memory' in C++, explicit memory address or just some global variable? I just need to get the overall structure/idea of the flow of the program. Any references would be appreciated.

• How to simulate postback in nested usercontrols?

  Hi all, I'm doing an asp.net application with one page. In this page, I have one usercontrol defined. This usercontrol has a menu (three buttons) and 3 usercontrols defined too. Depending on the clicked button one of the three usercontrols turn to visible true or false. In these three usercontrols I have a button and a message, and I want to show the message "It's NOT postback" when the button of the menu is clicked, and when the button of the usercontrol is clicked the message will be "YES, it's postback!!!". The question is that using property "IsPostBack" of the usercontrol or the page the message will never be "It's NOT postback" because of the clicked button of the menu to show the nested usercontrol. This is the structure of the page: page parent usercontrol menu nested usercontrol 1 message button nested usercontrol 2 nested usercontrol 3 I know it can be done using ViewState but, there is a way to simulate IsPostBack property or know when is the true usercontrol postback? • Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

• Counting multiple entries in a MySQL database?

  Hi all, I'm trying to count multiple entries in a MySQL database, I know how to use COUNT(), but the exact syntax I want to get the results I need eludes me. The problem: Table structure: ID, CODE, AUTHOR, COUNTRY, TIMESTAMP. Code, Author and Country overlap many times in the table. I am trying to discover if there is one simple query that can be ran to return (using WHERE clause on COUNTRY) the author field, the code field, and then a final field that counts the number of times the CODE was present in the query result. So, theoretically I could end up with an array like: array('author', 'code', 'codeAppearsNTimes'); Authors also have varying codes associated with them, so I don't want the results merged. I suppose the end result would be: 'This author is associated with this code this many times'. Is this possible with MySQL? Thanks in advance.

• Unable to set relative path for flash file in ASP.NET MVC using AC_FL_RunContent

  Hi, I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. Given below is the code I am using: AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase', 'http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0', 'width', '487', 'height', '359', 'menu', 'false', 'movie', 'images/butterfly', 'quality', 'high', 'allowscriptaccess', 'sameDomain', 'pluginspage', 'http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' ); where I copied butterfly.swf in a directory called images. images directory resides in the views folder. If I use code behind( default.aspx default.aspx.cs) in a different solution with the same folder strucuture, browser is able to load the flash file.   Hi, I am working on an application whose primary purpose would be to provide source control management. My idea is to use to SVNKit for file check-out and check-in. However, while working with SVNKit, I realised it does not have the speed I was looking for. For instance, whenever developers create a ChangeRequest, which can encompass change in 3-40 files, I have to create a directory structure distributed across 32 folders. Doing so takes around 50 seconds, Another instance is that after creating change request developers can add files to the request. Copying even a single file from Trunk to branch takes around 6-7 secs. My question is has anyone had experience like this and what did you do to improve the performance? Moreover, is my approach correct? NOTE: I am using "http" protocol and can't use "svn" protocol.

• Generating unobtrusive JS

  I have read quite a bit about unobtrusive JS and how to generate it and all that jazz... My problem is this: I have a website that heavily relies on mod_rewrite, so essentially all the pages requests are sent to index.php that generates the main structure of the page and then includes the appropriate page. Now, there are different sections in the site and each section uses different Javascript functions (e.g. for different AJAX requests). Now, if I just were to attach a function to the onload of the page obviously the thing would not work, as I do not have to initialise the same things for each page... so what is the best way to handle this situation? I hope the situation is clear, I'll be happy to clarify if needed
