  • How do I place widgets above and below a listview with Relative Layout

    - by Jay Askren
    I have a list view and want to put stuff both above(on the y axis) and below(y axis) it including images, text views, and a row of buttons. Below is a simplified version of what I am creating. Unfortunately the list covers(i.e. above on the z axis) the header so the header text is not visible instead of being underneath (on the y axis) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView android:id="@+id/footer" android:text="footer" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" /> <ListView android:id="@+id/list_view" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_above="@id/footer" android:background="#ff9999ff"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/header" android:text="header" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_above="@id/list_view" android:baselineAlignBottom="false" /> </RelativeLayout> Here is the corresponding Activity class: public class SampleListActivity extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.list_activity); } }

  • Problem running RoR app in production environment

    - by normalocity
    Have an app that has "listings" - think classified ads - and each listing has a list of tags. The following code fails when I run the app in production mode, but works fine under development mode uninitialized constant ActiveRecord::Acts::Taggable::InstanceMethods::TagList Extracted source (around line #45): 42: 43: <span class="listingIndexTags"> 44: Location: [location] | Tags: 45: <% tag_list = listing.tag_list %> 46: <% if tag_list != nil %> 47: <% for tag in tag_list %> 48: <%= link_to tag.to_s, { :action => "filter_on", The command line I'm using to start my mongrel instance in this test case: ruby script/server mongrel -e development Defaults to port 3000. I can access other views in the app that DON'T call "listing.tag_list". ".tag_list" is provided by "acts_as_taggable_on_steroids", which I'm using in this app. It is installed as a gem. • Problem with messages framework in Django 1.2

    - by Konstantin
    Hello! I'm running Django 1.2 beta and trying out the new feature: message framework. http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/messages/ Everything seems to work, but when I try to output the messages, I get nothing. Seems that messages variable is empty. I double checked all the settings, they seem to be just like in the manual. What could be wrong? settings.py MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ( 'django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware', 'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware', 'django.contrib.messages.middleware.MessageMiddleware', #send messages to users 'django.middleware.locale.LocaleMiddleware', 'django.contrib.auth.middleware.AuthenticationMiddleware', #debug tool 'debug_toolbar.middleware.DebugToolbarMiddleware', ) TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS = ( 'django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages', #send messages to users 'django.core.context_processors.auth', ) #Store messages in sessions MESSAGE_STORAGE = 'django.contrib.messages.storage.session.SessionStorage'; INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', #'django.contrib.sites', 'django.contrib.admin', 'django.contrib.messages', 'debug_toolbar', #my apps #... ) views.py def myview(request): from django.contrib import messages messages.error(request, 'error test'); messages.success(request, 'success test'); return render_to_response('mytemplate.html', locals()); mytemplate.html {% for message in messages %} {{ message }}<br /> {% endfor %} In template nothing is outputted.

  • Custom Django admin URL + changelist view for custom list filter by Tags

    - by Botondus
    In django admin I wanted to set up a custom filter by tags (tags are introduced with django-tagging) I've made the ModelAdmin for this and it used to work fine, by appending custom urlconf and modifying the changelist view. It should work with URLs like: http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/reviews/review/only-tagged-vista/ But now I get 'invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'only-tagged-vista', error which means it keeps matching the review edit page instead of the custom filter page, and I cannot figure out why since it used to work and I can't find what change might have affected this. Any help appreciated. Relevant code: class ReviewAdmin(VersionAdmin): def changelist_view(self, request, extra_context=None, **kwargs): from django.contrib.admin.views.main import ChangeList cl = ChangeList(request, self.model, list(self.list_display), self.list_display_links, self.list_filter, self.date_hierarchy, self.search_fields, self.list_select_related, self.list_per_page, self.list_editable, self) cl.formset = None if extra_context is None: extra_context = {} if kwargs.get('only_tagged'): tag = kwargs.get('tag') cl.result_list = cl.result_list.filter(tags__icontains=tag) extra_context['extra_filter'] = "Only tagged %s" % tag extra_context['cl'] = cl return super(ReviewAdmin, self).changelist_view(request, extra_context=extra_context) def get_urls(self): from django.conf.urls.defaults import patterns, url urls = super(ReviewAdmin, self).get_urls() def wrap(view): def wrapper(*args, **kwargs): return self.admin_site.admin_view(view)(*args, **kwargs) return update_wrapper(wrapper, view) info = self.model._meta.app_label, self.model._meta.module_name my_urls = patterns('', # make edit work from tagged filter list view # redirect to normal edit view url(r'^only-tagged-\w+/(?P<id>.+)/$', redirect_to, {'url': "/admin/"+self.model._meta.app_label+"/"+self.model._meta.module_name+"/%(id)s"} ), # tagged filter list view url(r'^only-tagged-(P<tag>\w+)/$', self.admin_site.admin_view(self.changelist_view), {'only_tagged':True}, name="changelist_view"), ) return my_urls + urls Edit: Original issue fixed. I now receive 'Cannot filter a query once a slice has been taken.' for line: cl.result_list = cl.result_list.filter(tags__icontains=tag) I'm not sure where this result list is sliced, before tag filter is applied. Edit2: It's because of the self.list_per_page in ChangeList declaration. However didn't find a proper solution yet. Temp fix: if kwargs.get('only_tagged'): list_per_page = 1000000 else: list_per_page = self.list_per_page cl = ChangeList(request, self.model, list(self.list_display), self.list_display_links, self.list_filter, self.date_hierarchy, self.search_fields, self.list_select_related, list_per_page, self.list_editable, self)

  • AdMob ad in iPhone app makes App content disappear when "done" is pressed!

    - by nephilite
    Hello All, When I return from an adMob ad by hitting "done" the content of my app has disappeared ! All that remains is a background image I had attached directly to the main window. Oddly I can still hear the result of my touch events from my main screen (which is now gone). This may be related to the issue some people have had regarding a 20 pixel move involving the toolbar...I see something to that effect as the ad starts to overlay. I have admob in another app that is working fine, and I notice when the ad opens in that app the ad content fills the whole screen EXCEPT the top toolbar (it starts right under it). In the new app I'm working on right now this isn't the case. When the ad starts to open I see the tool bar vanish, then the add comes in and fills the entire screen (including the area where the tool bar was); then when I click done and the the ad goes away everything under it is gone as well. It may be worth noting that the App I had working was 2.x and the current app is 3.x (and thus using the admob 3.0 libraries). This is very odd and deal-breaking; I need help ASAP The relevant part of my view hierarchy is as follows: AppDelegate - ViewController - MainView (Ad is in here) There are also some other Views that are children of the ViewController and a UITabbar is also a subview of the ViewController (programmatically declared, not a UITabBar Controller). Any help you can offer would be extremely appreciate...I need to resolve this issue ASAP, release in two days! Thanks!!

  • StarTeam trunk.

    - by Nix
    I have the unfortunate opportunity of source control via Borland's StarTeam. It unfortunately does very few things well, and one supreme weakness is its view management. I love SVN and come from an SVN mindset. Our issue is post production release we are spending countless hours merging changes into a "production support" environment. Please do not harass me this was not my doing, I inherited it and am trying to present a better way of managing the repository. It is not an option to switch to a different SCM tool. Current setup Product.1.0 (TRUNK, current production code, and at this level are pending bug fixes) Product.2.0(true trunk anything checked in gets tested, and then released next production cycle, a lot of changes occur in this view) My proposal is going to be to swap them, have all development be done on the trunk (Production), tag on releases, and as needed create child views to represent production support bug fixes. Production Production.2.0.SP.1 I can not find any documentation to support the above proposal so I am trying to get feedback on whether or not the change is a good idea and if there is anything you would recommend doing differently.

  • Why would a SQL query JOIN on the same table twice with the same condition?

    - by Scott Leis
    I'm working on changes to a SQL Server v8 database developed by someone else, and have found something that seems (based on my limited SQL knowledge) strange and pointless. One of the views has a query that does a LEFT OUTER JOIN twice on the same table with the same condition. Is there any reason for doing this? The query is below. See the second- and third-last lines that both join the "te_SDE_Survey" table on the "SDE_ID" field. Also note these lines set two different aliases for the table, and both aliases are used in the SELECT part of the query. SELECT vs.SLMS_Code, vs.Retail_Date, vs.TagNo, vs.Rego, vs.Model, vs.Company, vs.AccountType, viqdp.SDE_ID, bd.Debit_Date, isu.Survey_Date, CASE WHEN isu.Q6 IS NOT NULL THEN isu.Q6 ELSE CASE WHEN returned_surveys.survey_date IS NULL THEN CASE WHEN (viqdp.expiryDate < getdate() AND cs.sup1 IS NULL AND cs.sup2 IS NULL AND cs.sup3 IS NULL AND cs.sup5 IS NULL AND cs.sup8 IS NULL AND cs.sup9 IS NULL) THEN 'E' WHEN (viqdp.expiryDate < getdate() AND cs.sup1 = 'F' AND cs.sup2 = 'F' AND cs.sup3 = 'F' AND cs.sup5 = 'F' AND cs.sup8 = 'F' AND cs.sup9 = 'F') THEN 'E' WHEN cs.sup1 = 'T' THEN 'S' WHEN cs.sup2 = 'T' AND (cs.sup8 = 'F' AND cs.sup9 = 'F') THEN 'D' WHEN cs.sup3 = 'T' AND (cs.sup8 = 'F' AND cs.sup9 = 'F') THEN 'D' WHEN cs.sup5 = 'T' AND (cs.sup8 = 'F' AND cs.sup9 = 'F') THEN 'D' WHEN cs.sup8 = 'T' AND (cs.sup2 = 'F' AND cs.sup3 = 'F' AND cs.sup5 = 'F') THEN 'E' WHEN cs.sup9 = 'T' AND (cs.sup2 = 'F' AND cs.sup3 = 'F' AND cs.sup5 = 'F') THEN 'E' WHEN (cs.sup8 = 'T' OR cs.sup9 = 'T') AND (cs.sup2 = 'T' OR cs.sup3 = 'T' OR cs.sup5 = 'T') THEN 'S' END WHEN (tey.survey_expire_method = 'pre2008') THEN CASE WHEN (datediff(month, viqdp.generate_date, returned_surveys.survey_date) 1) THEN 'E' END WHEN (tey.survey_expire_method = 'expiryDateColumn') THEN CASE WHEN (returned_surveys.survey_date viqdp.expiryDate) THEN 'E' END END END AS score_or_exclusion_status, CASE WHEN (bd.explanation IS NULL) THEN '' ELSE bd.explanation END AS explanation, tey.te_Year FROM dbo.te_Vehicle_Sale vs INNER JOIN dbo.te_Year tey ON vs.Retail_Date = tey.Start_Date AND vs.Retail_Date <= tey.End_Date LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.Bad_Data bd ON vs.TagNo = bd.TagNo LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.te_Vehicle_SDESurvey viqdp ON vs.TagNo = viqdp.TagNo LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.te_SDE_Survey isu ON viqdp.SDE_ID = isu.SDE_ID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.te_SDE_Survey returned_surveys ON viqdp.SDE_ID = returned_surveys.SDE_ID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.te_SDE_Contact_Suppression cs ON viqdp.SDE_ID = cs.SDE_ID

  • Universal Authentication to Google Data API?

    - by viatropos
    Hey, I want to be able to have say 10 admin users store all their documents on google docs for a domain ('http://docs.google.com/a/domain.com'), and have everyone else be able to view them through 'domain.com/documents'. I'm just not certain how the whole authentication thing works in that case. Should I use OAuth? Or could I just use ClientLogin for say the root/global admin, and anytime someone goes to the site, they login as that? That works for personal docs, but it doesn't seem to be working for Google Apps. I would like it so the user has no idea they're accessing google docs, so I don't want them to have to say "Yes, Authenticate this App with Google", as seen in this Doclist Manager App. The app is basically: Admin stores a bunch of forms and documents User uses form and views documents the admin has posted ... so there's no need to access the user's Google Docs. But it seems like AuthSub and OAuth are addressing that instead... Thanks for the tips.

  • Add KO "data-bind" attribute on $(document).ready

    - by M.Babcock
    Preface I've rarely ever been a JS developer and this is my first attempt at doing something with Knockout.js. The question to follow likely illustrates both points. Backgound I have a fairly complex MVC3 application that I'm trying to get to work with KO (v2.0.0.0). My MVC app is designed to generically control which fields appear in the view (and how they are added to the view). It makes use of partial views to decide what to draw in the view based on the user's permissions (If the user is in group A then show control A, if the user in group B then show control B or possibly if the user is in group A don't include the control at all). Also, my model is very flat so I'm not sure the built-in ability to apply my ViewModel to a specific portion of the view will help. My solution to this problem is to provide an action in my controller that responds with an object in JSON format with that contains the JQuery selector and the content to assign to the "data-bind" attribute and bind the ViewModel to the View in the $(document).ready event using the values provided. Failed Proof-of-concept My first attempt at proving that this works doesn't actually seem to work, and by "doesn't work" I mean it just doesn't bind the values at all (as can be seen in this jsfiddle). I've tried it with the applyBindings inside of the ready event and not, but it doesn't seem to make any bit of difference. Question What am I doing wrong? Or is this just not something that can work with KO (though I've seen at least one example online doing the same thing and it supposedly works)? Like I said in the preface, I've only ever pretended to be a JS developer (though I've generally gotten it to work in the past) so I'm at a loss where to start trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Hopefully this isn't a real noob question.

  • Html.LabelFor and Html.TextBoxFor generate empy html code

    - by Ceridan
    I'm writing my first ASP.NET MVC application and there is one big problem for me. I want to make a control which will represent a form, but when I try to generate labels and textboxes it returns to me empty page. So, this is my model file (MyModel.cs): namespace MyNamespace.Models { public class MyModel { [Required(ErrorMessage = "You have to fill this field")] [DisplayName("Input name")] public string Name{ get; set; } } } This is MyFormControlView.ascx file with my control: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyNamespace.Models.MyModel>"%> <div> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { Html.LabelFor(m => m.Name); Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Name); Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.Name); } %> </div> And this is my Index.aspx file where I render the control: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Main.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<System.Collections.IEnumerable>" %> <asp:Content runat="server" ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent"> This is my control test! <%Html.RenderPartial("MyFormControlView", new MyNamespace.Models.MyModel { Name = "MyTestName"}); %> </asp:Content> So, when I run my application the result is lonely caption: "This is my control test!" and there are no label or textbox on the generated page. If I inspect the source code of the generated page I can see my block, but it's inner text is empty. Please, could you help me?

  • Django: A Result Specific Numeration for Pagination.

    - by TheLizardKing
    Simply put I want what http://www.reddit.com/ and http://news.ycombinator.com/ have to the left of every link. A numerated link starting with 1 and continuing to the next page by means of pagination. I really enjoy using generic views and their built-in pagination for Django and it seems to allow me access to these values if I was on page 3 with 2 items per page. {'MEDIA_URL': ''} {'LANGUAGES': '<<languages>>', 'LANGUAGE_BIDI': False, 'LANGUAGE_CODE': 'en-us'} {'debug': True, 'sql_queries': '<<sql_queries>>'} {'messages': [], 'perms': <django.core.context_processors.PermWrapper object at 0xadedeec>, 'user': <User: thelizardking>} {'first_on_page': 5, 'has_next': True, 'has_previous': True, 'hits': 7, 'is_paginated': True, 'last_on_page': 6, 'links_list': [<Link: Funky Town>, <Link: Apple Jax>], 'next': 4, 'page': 3, 'page_obj': <Page 3 of 4>, 'page_range': [1, 2, 3, 4], 'pages': 4, 'paginator': <django.core.paginator.Paginator object at 0xadf914c>, 'previous': 2, 'results_per_page': 2} I know there is an add filter for templates but that's as close as I think I can get and that really doesn't do what I want. Am I going to have to use a custom template filter here or is there something I am not seeing?

  • OSMDroid simple example required

    - by Bex
    Hi! I am trying to create an app that uses offline maps and custom tiles. For this I have decided to use OSMDroid and have included the jar within my project. I will create my custom tiles using MOBAC. I have been directed to these examples: http://code.google.com/p/osmdroid/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2FOpenStreetMapViewer%2Fsrc%2Forg%2Fosmdroid%2Fsamples but I am struggling to follow them as I am new to both java and android. I have created a class file called test (which I have created following an example!): public class test extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ protected static final String PROVIDER_NAME = LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); MapView map = (MapView) findViewById(R.id.map); map.setTileSource(TileSourceFactory.MAPQUESTOSM); map.setBuiltInZoomControls(true); map.setMultiTouchControls(true); map.getController().setZoom(16); map.getController().setCenter(new GeoPoint(30266000, -97739000)); } } with a layout file: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <org.osmdroid.views.MapView android:id="@+id/map" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" tilesource="MapquestOSM" android:layout_weight="1" /> </LinearLayout> When I run this I see no map, just an empty grid. I think this is due to my tilesource but I'm not sure what I need to change it to. Can anyone help? Bex

  • iPad: Displaying UIActionSheet with UIPickerView as subview

    - by E-Madd
    I'm in the process of migrating an iPhone app to a universal app. On one of my views, I present a UIActionSheet with a UIPickerView as a subview. On the iPhone this always worked just fine. Of course, on the iPad I had to change a little to present the ActionSheet in a popover control. Here's some psuedo-code to outline where I'm at... actionSheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:nil delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:nil destructiveButtonTitle:nil otherButtonTitles:nil]; pickerView = [[UIPickerView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,44,0,0)]; pickerView.delegate = self; pickerView.dataSource = self; pickerView.showsSelectionIndicator = YES; [actionSheet addSubview:pickerView]; if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() != UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad){ [actionSheet showInView:self.view]; [actionSheet setBounds:actRect]; }else{ [actionSheet showFromRect:buttonRect inView:[UIApplication sharedApplication].keyWindow animated:YES]; } The resulting popover on the iPad is very small and only the very top of the UIPickerView is visible. How can I set the size of the popover?

  • Where should 'CreateMap' statements go?

    - by jonathanconway
    I frequently use AutoMapper to map Model (Domain) objects to ViewModel objects, which are then consumed by my Views, in a Model/View/View-Model pattern. This involves many 'Mapper.CreateMap' statements, which all must be executed, but must only be executed once in the lifecycle of the application. Technically, then, I should keep them all in a static method somewhere, which gets called from my Application_Start() method (this is an ASP.NET MVC application). However, it seems wrong to group a lot of different mapping concerns together in one central location. Especially when mapping code gets complex and involves formatting and other logic. Is there a better way to organize the mapping code so that it's kept close to the ViewModel that it concerns? (I came up with one idea - having a 'CreateMappings' method on each ViewModel, and in the BaseViewModel, calling this method on instantiation. However, since the method should only be called once in the application lifecycle, it needs some additional logic to cache a list of ViewModel types for which the CreateMappings method has been called, and then only call it when necessary, for ViewModels that aren't in that list.)

  • Android Custom View Constructor

    - by Mitch
    I'm learning about using Custom Views from the following: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/custom-components.html#modifying The description says: Class Initialization As always, the super is called first. Furthermore, this is not a default constructor, but a parameterized one. The EditText is created with these parameters when it is inflated from an XML layout file, thus, our constructor needs to both take them and pass them to the superclass constructor as well. Is there a better description? I've been trying to figure out what the constructor(s) should look like and I've come up with 4 possible choices (see example at end of post). I'm not sure what these 4 choices do (or don't do), why I should implement them, or what the parameters mean. Is there a description of these? Thanks. Mitch public MyCustomView() { super(); } public MyCustomView(Context context) { super(context); } public MyCustomView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); } public MyCustomView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, Map params) { super(context, attrs, params); }

    I have an iPad app that switches between different views in its main window. The view-switching code looks like this: - (void)switchToViewController:(UIViewController*)viewController { if (currentViewController != viewController) { [currentViewController.view removeFromSuperview]; currentViewController = viewController; [window addSubview:viewController.view]; } } The problem is that when the new view (a UISplitView) appears in landscape orientation, it is not sized to fill the entire window. There is an empty black space on the right. If I rotate the device and then rotate back, the view sizes itself properly. If the device is in portrait orientation, everything works fine. The UISplitView also gets sized properly if it is the first view I show. The problem only occurs if I switch to it after another view has been shown, in landscape. So, is there some way to force iPhone OS to resize the view after it has been added to the window? I've tried calling sizeToFit, but it didn't work. I've also tried setting the view's bounds to the window's bounds, and I've tried setting the frame.

  • custom view on iphone's native media player(MPMoviePlayerController)

    - by sneha
    I am building an application that implements a custom view on iPhone’s native media player. I want your help in deciding directions to lay this effort. At present I have find out that iPhone SDK doesn’t support APIs to customize media player. I need these things in the player: I would like to have custom views i.e. want to change all control buttons on player like Play/Pause, seek bar etc. The background of player will also need to be different. The player has to play audio or video file from local/remote location. Can i use MPMoviePlayerController if it can be customized (How to do it ??). However, any other third party player approved by iPhone which has an ability to download and play the media file from local/remote location is also fine. It will be great to have an access to media player buffer so that it can be encrypted. I have following questions: 1.Any help in building/customizing player..... 2.Do you see issues in signing of application? 3.Does Apple have any restrictions on customizing media player? 4.Any sample iPhone application where media player is customized Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

  • Altering URLs and mapping - path_prefix? - Ruby on Rails...

    - by bgadoci
    Ok, so I am working on a blog application of sorts. Thus far, it allows for a user to sign up for their own account, create posts, tags, comments, etc. I have just implemented the ability to use www.myapp.com/brandon to set @user to find by username and therefore correctly display the users information at each url. So when you go to www.myapp.com/brandon you see all Brandon's posts, tags, and comments associated with those posts, etc. Works great. I implementing this URL mapping through the routes.rb file by adding the following: map.username_link '/:username', :controller => 'posts', :action => 'index' And then just setting the @user variable in the PostController and corresponding views to find_by_username. Now the issue is this. Once at www.myapp.com/brandon when you click on a post title, it sends to myapp.com/posts/id without the username in the URL which blows up my view because nothing is being set for the @user variable. How do I tell Rails to create the link reading www.myapp.com/brandon/posts/id vs www.myapp.com/posts/id and then map that action? I am assuming this will involve some code in the view, and then adding another line in the routes.rb file, map.subdomain_link '/:username/posts/:id', :controller => 'posts', :action => 'show' and adding the @user variable to the PostController#show action, but not totally sure if this is even the right approach. UPDATE: I have been reading about :path_prefix and seems like it might be what I am looking for. I have tried to implement simply by adding map.resources :posts, :path_prefix => '/:user_username/:post_id' to the routes.rb file but not working (even after server restart). I am sure this is not correct but wanted to let you know what I have tried.

  • ASP.NET MVC - Entending the Authorize Attribute

    - by Mad Halfling
    Hi folks, currently I use [Authorize(Roles = ".....")] to secure my controller actions on my ASP.NET MVC 1 app, and this works fine. However, certain search views need to have buttons that route to these actions that need to be enabled/disabled based on the record selected on the search list, and also the security privs of the user logged in. Therefore I think I need to have a class accessing a DB table which cross-references these target controller/actions with application roles to determine the state of these buttons. This will, obviously, make things messy as privs will need to be maintained in 2 places - in that class/DB table and also on the controller actions (plus, if I want to change the access to the action I will have to change the code and compile rather than just change a DB table entry). Ideally I would like to extend the [Authorize] functionality so that instead of having to specify the roles in the [Authorize] code, it will query the security class based on the user, controller and action and that will then return a boolean allowing or denying access. Are there any good articles on this - I can't imagine it's an unusual thing to want to do, but I seem to be struggling to find anything on how to do it (could be Monday-morning brain). I've started some code doing this, looking at article http://schotime.net/blog/index.php/2009/02/17/custom-authorization-with-aspnet-mvc/ , and it seems to be starting off ok but I can't find the "correct" way to get the calling controller and action values from the httpContext - I could possibly fudge a bit of code to extract them from the request url, but that doesn't seem right to me and I'd rather do it properly. Cheers MH

  • ASP.NET MVC and WCF

    - by Michael Stum
    I'm working my way into MVC at the moment, but on my "To learn at some point" list, I also have WCF. I just wonder if WCF is something that should/could be used in an MVC Application or not? The Background is that I want a Desktop Application (.NET 3.5, WPF) interact with my MVC Web Site, and I wonder what the best way to transfer data between the two is. Should I just use special Views/have the controllers return JSON or XML (using the ContentResult)? And maybe even more important, for the other way round, could I just call special controllers? Not sure how Authorization would work in such a context. I can either use Windows Authentication or (if the Site is running forms authentication) have the user store his/her credentials in the application, but I would then essentially create a HTTP Client in my Application. So while MVC = Application seems really easy, Application = MVC does seem to be somewhat tricky and a possible use for WCF? I'm not trying to brute-force WCF in this, but I just wonder if there is indeed a good use case for WCF in an MVC application.

  • Crystal Reports .Net Guidance

    - by Ken Ray
    We have been using .Net and Visual Studio for the last six years, and early on developed a number of web based reporting applications using the .Net version of Crystal Reports that was bundled with Visual Studio. My overall opinion of that product has been, to say the least, rather unimpressed. It seemed to be incredibly difficult and convoluted to use, we had to make security changes, install various extra software, and so on. Now, we are moving to VS2008 and version 3.5 of the .Net framework, and the time has come to redevelop some of these old applications. The developers who used (and somehow mastered) Crystal .Net have long gone, and I am facing a decision - do we stick with Crystal Reports or move to something else. We also have the "full" version of Crystal Reports XI at our disposal. The way we use the product is to product pdf versions of data extracted from various databases. While some apps use the inbuilt Crystal Reports viewer as well, this seems to be redundant now with the flexibility of grid views - but there is still the need to produce a pdf version of the data in teh grid for printing, or in Excel format to download. What is the concensus? Is Crystal Reports .Net worth persisting with, or should we work out how to use version XI? Alternatively, is there a simple and low cost way to generate pdf reports without using Crystal? What good sources of "how to" information have others found and recommend? Are there suitable books, designed for VS2008 / .Net 3.5 development that you have used and found of benefit? Thanks in advance.

  • UINavigationBar is getting buttons from another view

    - by Rafael Oliveira
    I have three Views, Splash, Login and List. From Splash I just wait and then Push Login View, with the Navigation Bar hidden. In Login I Show the NavigationBar, hide the BackButton1 and add a new RightButton1, then I check if Settings.bundle "login" and "pass" are set. If so, I push List View. Otherwise I stay in the Login view waiting for the user to fill the form and press a button. In List View I add a new RightButton2 and a new BackButton2. The problem is that if Settings.bundle data is not null, and in Login View I quickly push List View the RightButton1 appears in List View, or no buttons appear at all, or only BackButton2 doesn't appear... The most strange thing of all is that everything was OK and all of sudden it started to get messy. Login View: // Making the Navigation Bar Visible [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:NO animated:NO]; // Hiding the Back Button in THIS view (Login) [self.navigationItem setHidesBackButton:YES]; // Inserting the Logout Button for the Next View (List) UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Logout" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:nil action:nil]; self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = backButton; [backButton release]; UIBarButtonItem* newAccountButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"New Account" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(newAccountButtonPressed)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = newAccountButton; [newAccountButton release]; List View // Making the Navigation Bar Visible [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:NO animated:NO]; UIBarButtonItem* aboutButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"About" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(aboutButtonPressed)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = aboutButton; [aboutButton release]; Any ideas ?

  • Right to Left UI in iPhone (Hebrew)

    - by Reflog
    Hello, I'm struggling in creating a RTL UI in iPhone application. The framework doesn't seem to have any support for RTL languages. The only thing is the alignment inside labels, which is nice, but it conflicts with other controls behaviour. The question is: Is there a working code for a RTL TableView? Something that would handle the disclosure buttons to be on the left, section titles to be right aligned, index view to be left aligned? As far as I understand I cannot move the index view of the tableview, i have to overlay some custom control... Any suggestions/pointers/examples? p.s. this is not a duplication of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1677988/right-to-left-alignment-for-uitableview since what I am looking for is a deeper customization, not just a new type of CellView. (Update: Mar 10) For now - I've removed support for indexView from the tableView at all, implemented the cells as custom views by myself (with disclosure buttons on the left), and customized the header/footer of the table as well. the only thing that is left is the Index View. Thanks in advance!
