• How to get or make a WPF WebBrowser with a visual.

  Having problems related to WPF WebBrowser not having a visual. Reason being, that it actually a wrapper around the winforms browser. Anyways, I searched the web for any solution to this problem, and got hold of the following suggestions: http://chriscavanagh.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/a-real-wpf-webbrowser/ http://rob.runtothehills.org/archives/60 The first one solves everything, but seems like an overkill. Plus, the dll's should be licensed for commercial use. The second one seems simple, but not able to figure out when to refresh the screen. Plus there's so much to do like sending mouse and keyboard messages to the webbrowser. P.S. The problem I'm trying to solve is to show the same webbrowser on different windows. They both must be interactive, and always in sync visually.

• My IP seems to be blocked by web hosting server...

  Hi All I have a strange problem, i just installed my php web site on a shared hosting, all services were working fine. But after configuring my app i just could visit my web site only once, other attempts gives "The server is taking too long to respond.". But from other IP i can access, but only once, it seems all ip addressess beeing blocked after first visit(even ftp and other services get down, no access at all from the IP), can anyone help to explore this problem ? i don't think that it's my app problem, the app works fine on my local PC. Thanks.

• No method 'get' on backbone model save

  I'm using backbone for a reasonably complicated form. I have a number of nested models, and have been computing other variables in the parent model like so: // INSIDE PARENT MODEL computedValue: function () { var value = this.get('childModel').get('childModelProperty'); return value; } This seems to work fine for keeping my UI in sync, but as soon as I call .save() on the parent model, I get: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<Object> has no method 'get' It seems that the child model kind of temporarily stops responding. Am I doing something inherently wrong? • Publish Website

  I've published my website many times. But didn't think about this though until I came across this issue. So I decided to publish my WAP project to a local folder on my C drive first. Then used FTP to upload it to my shared host on discountasp.net. I noticed during runtime that the stack trace was referencing that local folder still and erroring out. Anyone know what config settings are affected when publishing? Obviously something is still pointing to my local C drive and I've searched my entire solution and don't see why.

  Hi, This seems to be a recurring problem to me. I want to get started doing wcf services. I create a new Wcf Service Library, compile it, and publish it using FTP to my providers webhotel. But its not working. I somehow cant get access. I dont want some fancy security model - i just want to get a hole through to my simple webservice. Seems that its the part when i publish it to my webhotel (in a subdomain) that breaks the webservice - its working perfectly when starting it locally. How to proceed anyone?

  Hey All Let me explain you the scenario upto now.. Been a newbie to Joomla I managed to build my own website using Joomla CMS in my computers localhost. Then after the completion of the site, I wanted to upload my Local Joomla Site to a GoDaddy Server / Hosting Account.. I'm using Filezilla as my FTP client, Using that I uploaded the files as per the guided on step 07 and when I try to access www.mysitename.com/kickstart.php, it is giving me the below error, Forbidden You don't have permission to access /kickstart.php on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. How can I set permission... Please explain in a non technical way..   Here's my situation: My files are on a remote server (Linux). When I want to edit a file at home on my Windows machine, my editor (PSPad) downloads a copy. When I save the document, my editor uploads it to the server, overwriting the previous version. Is there a version control system, preferably GUI driven, that can handle this situation? Additional info: I probably can't install elaborate software on the remote server, but can on my own computer. Concurrent Versions System (CVS) is installed on the remote server. Uploading/downloading goes through an FTP-to-SFTP bridge set up with Bitvise Tunnelier.

• Known problems with filemtime() on Windows - files getting touched arbitrarily?

  Is there a known issue leading to file modification times of cache files on Windows XP SP 3 getting arbitrarily updated, but without any actual change? Is there some service on a standard Windows XP - Backup, Sync, Versioning, Virus scanner - known to touch files? They all have a .txt extension. If there isn't, forget it. Then I'm getting something wrong in my cache routines, and I'll debug my way through. Background: I'm building a simple caching wrapper around a slow web site on a Windows server. I am comparing the filemtime() time stamp to some columns in the data base to determine whether a cached file is stale. I'm having problems using this method because the modification time of the cache files seems to get updated in between operations without me doing anything. THis results in stale files being displayed. I'm the only user on the machine. The operating system is Windows XP, the webserver a XAMPP Apache 2 with PHP 5.2

Is there a definitive list of supported protocols documented anywhere? UPDATE: To clarify. • Preferred data-format for user-data in java applications?

  I'm currently developing a desktop application in java, which stores user data such as bookmarks for ftp-servers. When deciding how to save these informations, I ended up using xml, simply because I like the way xpath works. I was thinking about json too, which seems more lightweight. What is your preferred way to store data in java desktop applications (in general) and why? What about java-persistence, does that have any advantages worth noting? And how much does the size of user data matter? Its not always possible to store data in a database (or preferable), and in my experience xml does not scale well. Let me know what you think!

• Can't access my files in ASP.NET web site

  I'm having a very difficult time. I am running windows 2008 server, I have an Able Commerce site using ASP.NET with C#. I'm writing an automated task that will ftp some xml files down into a local directory on our web server and then the program parses the xml file and saves information to our database. The problem, once I save the files to our local directory, my program has no access to the files. The NETWORK SERVICE user permissions isn't being inherited by the xml files so my program can't do anything with them. I can manually change the permissions, but this wouldn't be automated and won't work. How can I get this to work? help please, it's very frustrating.

• Get last element of pipeline in powershell

  Hi, This might be weird, but stay with me. I want to get only the last element of a piped result to be assigned to a varaiable. I know how I would do this in "regular" code of course, but since this must be a one-liner. More specifically, I'm interested in getting the file extension when getting the result from an FTP request ListDirectoryDetails. Since this is done within a string expansion, I can't figure out the proper code. Currently I'm getting the last 3 hars, but that is real nasty.   I'm trying to write a Java app that imports a data file. The process is as follows Create Transaction Delete all rows from datatable Load data file into datatable Commit OR Rollback if any errors were encountered. The data loaded in step 3 is mostly the same as the data deleted in step3. The deletion is performed using the following DetachedCriteria criteria = DetachedCriteria.forClass(myObject.class); List<myObject> myObjects = hibernateTemplate.findByCriteria(criteria); hibernateTemplate.deleteAll(myObjects); When I then load the datafile, i get the following exception nested exception is org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException: a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session: The whole process needs to take place in transaction. And I don't really want to have to compare the import file / data table and then perform an insert/update/delete to get them into sync. Any help would be appreciated.

• Multi-threaded downloader in C# question

  Currently I have multi-threaded downloader class that uses HttpWebRequest/Response. All works fine, it's super fast, BUT.. the problem is that the data needs to be streamed while it's downloading to another app. That means that it must be streamed in the right order, the first chunk first, and then the next in the queue. Currently my downloader class is sync and Download() returns byte[]. In my async multi-threaded class I make for example, list with 4 empty elements (for slots) and I pass each index of the slot to each thread using the Download() function. That simulates synchronization, but that's not what I need. How should I do the queue thing, to make sure the data is streamed as soon as the first chunk start downloading.

• QWebPage. How to handle failed request.

  I want to handle failed requests (for example, with http 404 error code in reply), display my own "notfound.html" page in QWebView. But there is no simple way to handle replies with QWebView/QWebPage classes. As I see in Arora browser, for such requests uses next mechanism: QWebPage::setForwardUnsupportedContent(true), QWebPage::unsupportedContent signal and appropriate slot where you can handle qnetworkreply manually. But I cannot understand how it works, because unsupportedContent throws only when QWebPage cannot handle request scheme (like abrakadra://, ftp://, etc) or if reply consists of special header Content-Disposition: attachment. May be anybody know something about this ?

Question: I have a legacy system with users and files, the info of all files pertaining to a user are stored on a flat file. I want to upgrade this system by storing all info on a db, design tables, and create a C# system that will populate the new db as well as ftp the files to a new path. Define the desgin consideration and develop a prototype. Note: We are looking more for what design one would use and why rather than code that compiles.   I'm building some sort of wizard to create user accounts in Sync and Manage account. I use a ViewFlipper my activity has to be an AccountAuthenticatorActivity. That said it also means I can't inherit PreferenceActivity. So I looked up in the code of PreferenceActivity and I believe it should be possible to have a PreferenceView that inherit from ListView. The Activity part of PreferenceActivity isn't really needed as far as I know. Though the PreferenceManager is what really blocks me. private PreferenceManager onCreatePreferenceManager() { PreferenceManager preferenceManager = new PreferenceManager(this, FIRST_REQUEST_CODE); preferenceManager.setOnPreferenceTreeClickListener(this); return preferenceManager; } This function imply that we can instatiate PreferenceManager using the operator new. Apparently, the sdk hide the constructor of the PreferenceManager. I'm kind of confused. Is there a way to inflate my preferences and display them without PreferenceActivity?

• Will using a VCS help me as a web dev?

  I'm thinking of trying a VCS such as subversion, to manage my next project, but I'm not sure if will offer any real benefits for me as a web developer. As I understand it, one of the major benefits of a VCS is that a group of people can work on a project at once. Reading material on the subject seems pretty one sided: "Using a version control system is an absolute must for a developer of a project above a few hundred lines of code" ...and I've got a feeling it could become a chore, with not many benefits. I work on development server on the local network, so any amount of people can work on the files already. If anyone needs to get in remotely, they use FTP. What would a modern version control system give me on top of this?

• How to implement a timer for regular events?

  I would like to implement some timers into my application. My goal is to provide an easy way to execute some function every x seconds/minutes so I thought about implementing a 1 sec, 5 sec and 15 seconds timer. The first thing i would like to update every 1 second is the built in clock (don't know if there is any other solution in c#, used this method in c++) Another use would be e.g. a sync function etc. which shall be executed every xx seconds. My question is if there are any useful tutorials on this topic? It is the first time that I would like to implement such an timer system into one of my applications and I do not know if there are any things I have to keep in mind. • How do I secure a folder used to let users upload files?

  I have a folder in my web server used for the users to upload photos using an ASP page. Is it safe enough to give IUSR write permissions to the folder? Must I secure something else? I am afraid of hackers bypassing the ASP page and uploading content directly to the folder. I'm using ASP classic and IIS6 on Windows 2003 Server. The upload is through HTTP, not FTP. • Transferring data to (Windows) Mobile Devices

  I created an app for Windows Mobile 6.5 and am fairly happy with it. However, if anyone else need to use this app, they will have to transfer an initial file (txt or csv) to the device. For a developer this isn't a problem but is this too much to ask of an end user? Granted, they will want to move (sync) data back to their desktop after the device's data have been updated. So how do other apps solve this problem? Do I need to provide some kind of syncing software?
