  • JQuery\Javascript - Passing a function as a variable.

    - by Josh
I was just curious if I could pass a function as a variable. For example: I have a function $('#validate').makeFloat({x:671,y:70,limitY:700}); I would like to do something like this: $('#validate').makeFloat({x:function(){ return $("#tabs").offset().left+$("#tabs").width();},y:70,limitY:700}); This does not work, but ideally every time the variable was accessed it would compute the new value. So if the window was resized it would automatically adjust as opposed to a variable passed in being static. I realize I can implement this directly inside the function\widget, but I was wondering if there was some way to do something like the above.

  • How to handle ctrl+arrow in Javascript?

    - by MartyIX
I've noticed an problem when trying to catch keyboard shortcut: CTRL+an arrow. I've handled keydown event. Now when I hold CTRL key then keydown event is fired once. If I hold an arrow (so that now I'm holding CTRL+an arrow) it doesn't fire another event. Is it forbidden from any reason? I guess I've already encountered this problem in Opera a few years ago and there was an option for it in browser. My results: holding CTRL, press an arrow -- fires event for CTRL and doesn't fire an event for an arrow press CTRL + an arrow at once -- fires one event but only with keycode of CTRL. holding CTRL, press a letter (eg. S) -- works as expected press CTRL + letter (eg. S) -- works as expected (Results are identical in Chrome and Firefox. Is the behaviour described above a standard?) I'm using: function OnKeyDown(e) { } e.ctrlKey, e.which properties of event The question is: what might be the problem?

  • Reading bytes from JavaScript string

    - by Jan
I have a string containing binary data in JS. Now I want to read, for example, an integer from it. So I get the first 4 characters, use charCodeAt, do some shifting etc. to get an integer. Problem is that strings in JS are UTF-16 (instead of ASCII) and charCodeAt often returns values higher than 256. The Mozilla reference states that "The first 128 Unicode code points are a direct match of the ASCII character encoding." (what about ASCII values 128?) How can I convert the result of charCodeAt to an ASCII value? Or is there a better way to convert a string of four characters to a 4 byte integer?

  • Firing a Keyboard Event at the Body - JavaScript (?)

    - by user317985
I've done a lot of research on this but have come up empty handed. What I would like to do is invoke or create an event for the right arrow key (Key Code 39). I was planning on using an onclick event inside an tag to go to a function where this event could be 'fired'. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone needs context, I have a jQuery content slider that's functionality is very hard to alter and currently the functionality I need to emulate only occurs when a user hits the right arrow on their keyboard. What I would like to do is tie an onclick() event to a image that when clicked on fires the right keyboard event and the content will slide. Please let me know if I can provide further details or explanation. My working demo for this is: http://greenplanet3d.com

  • Javascript indexOf() always returns -1

    I try to retrieve the index of en element in an array. This works perfectly var onCreate = function (event) { console.assert(markers[markerId] === undefined); var markerId = event.markerId; markers[markerId] = {}; var marker = markers[markerId]; // create the container object marker.object3d = new THREE.Object3D(); marker.object3d.matrixAutoUpdate = false; scene.add(marker.object3d); //UPDATE ARRAY HOLDING CURRENT MARKERS console.log("ON CREATE"); console.log("current detected markers: " + currentMarkers); var idx = currentMarkers.indexOf(markerId); // Find the index console.log("marker " + event.markerId + " has index: " + idx); if(idx==-1) // if does not exist currentMarkers.push(markerId); But this doesnt... var onDelete = function (event) { console.assert(markers[event.markerId] !== undefined); var markerId = event.markerId; //UPDATE ARRAY HOLDING CURRENT MARKERS console.log("ON DELETE"); console.log("current detected markers: " + currentMarkers); var idxx = currentMarkers.indexOf(markerId); // Find the index console.log("marker " + markerId + " has index: " + idxx); if(idxx != -1) {// if DOES exist currentMarkers.splice(idxx, 1); //Delete var idxxx = currentMarkersCoverChecked.indexOf(markerId); // Find the index if(idxxx == -1) // if does NOT exist, so if not being checked checkMarkerCovered(markerId); } onDeleteRandom(markerId); var marker = markers[markerId]; scene.remove(marker.object3d); delete markers[markerId]; Look at my console output: ON CREATE current detected markers: 2,1,4 marker 3 has index: -1 ON CREATE main.js:266 current detected markers: 2,1,4,3 marker 4 has index: 2 ON DELETE current detected markers: 2,1,4,3 marker 2 has index: -1 ON CREATE current detected markers: 2,1,4,3 marker 2 has index: 0 ON DELETE current detected markers: 2,1,4,3 marker 1 has index: -1

  • How do you set a cookie to be accessible across the entire domain in Javascript

    - by Tzarkov
I suppose there should be a way to set a cookie to be accessible from the entire domain nevermind from which directory you are setting the cookie. Say in mypage.com/blue/index.php y set the cookie "colour=blue;" this way: document.cookie = "colour" + "=" + "blue" + "; expires=" + expireDate.toGMTString() + "; path=/"; Using this code, the cookie retrieval function in mypage.com/home.php can't access the content of the cookie. If it was just from first level directories that the cookie needs to be set, we would be ok by doing path=../ instead of path=/ But how do you go about writing generic code that sets a cookie that is accessible from any page in that domain not minding how deep in the file structure is the page the cookie is being set from?

  • Posting form using javascript and json with nested objects

    - by Tim
    I have an html form that has the following structure: <input type="text" name="title" /> <input type="text" name="persons[0].name" /> <input type="text" name="persons[0].color" /> <input type="text" name="persons[1].name" /> <input type="text" name="persons[1].color" /> I would like to serialize this into the following json: { "title":"titlecontent", "persons":[ { "name":"person0name", "color":"red" }, { "name":"person1name", "color":"blue" } ] } Notice that the number of persons can vary from case to case. The structure of the html form can change, but the structure of the submitted json can't. How is this done the easiest?

  • iframe problem using javascript

    - by Arjun Singh
Does anyone know how to get the HTML out of an IFRAME? I have tried several different ways: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML, document.frames['iframe01'].document.body.innerHTML, document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML, etc but none of them worked. I believe the reason they're not working is that the content of my iframe doesn't have a body tag (I'm loading XML). Any other way to get all the contents of the iframe? I am open to jQuery too. This: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML works fine in the IE, but this: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML does not work for FF.

  • Inserting a newline into a pre tag (IE, Javascript)

    - by Itay
In IE when I insert text into a <pre> tag the newlines are ignored: <pre id="putItHere"></pre> <script> function putText() { document.getElementById("putItHere").innerHTML = "first line\nsecond line"; } </script> Using \r\n instead of a plain \n does not work. <br/> does work but inserts an extra blank line in FF, which is not acceptable for my purposes.

  • Javascript How do I force a string + variable to be evaluated as a variable

    - by Craig Rinde
Im not even sure how to word this and is probably why I am having trouble finding an answer in google. When the code is run currentCardRow will equal 1 therefore it should be cardSelected1 which is what is shown in the console.log. I need it to go a step further because cardSelected1 is a variable and I need it to evaluate show in the console log as Invitation. Invitation is an example of a variable for cardSelected1. I am not sure on what the correct syntax is to make this happen. var currentCardSelected = "cardSelected" + currentCardRow; Thanks for your help!
