• Ubuntu 12.04 VirtualBox on powerful W7 quite slow

  I own a Thinkpad T420s with 8GB RAM, 160 GB SSD and a quite fast i7 processor. Summa summarum a very fast computer that works perfectly. Now, I am not very impressed by the performance of my Ubuntu 12.04 virtual machine running on VirtualBox 4.1.18. I assume that Virtual Machines are always a bit slower than the guest system, still I think it should be more performant given the hardware settings I give it: 4096 MB RAM 1 CPU without CPU limitation (I would like to give it more but then it does not seem to work - I am not experienced in this maybe somebody could give me advice on this too) Activated PAE/NX, VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging 96 MB Graphics Memory (no 2D or 3D acceleration) ~ 14 GB disk space, currently about 7 GB are used Maybe I misconfigured something, could you give me a hint please? Thanks! Edit: What I mean by slow is that for example switching tabs in the browser (whether FF or Chrome) only goes with a 0.5s delay or something, as well as switching application windows and/or double-clicking applications in the dock to get all open windows.. opening Aptana takes about a minute whereas opening something like Photoshop on the guest system takes 5 seconds

  This question already has an answer here: How do you do load testing and capacity planning for web sites? 3 answers I made a website which aims at simulating a trading market. There are a list of prices and corresponding volumes that people want to purchase. Users can purchase at any price any time. My website retrieves the prices and volumes from my database every 2 seconds (I have to update the user's browser frequently to allow them to see the current market). Users' database INSERT query can be sent any time if they purchase. I used ajax to post or get data from my database (sometimes nested ajax calls). So, every 2 seconds, each user will send or retrieve data by using more than 20 database queries (in order to show a users the current prices and volumes). Also, I may have 200 users at a time. I was not using VPS before, and I got banned because of using too much CPU resources on my host. Now, I've purchased VPS*2 from a hosting servers. I have: CPU Speed: 2000 Mhz Memory: 2048 MB Disk Space: 20000 MB Bandwidth: 2000 GB Connection: 40 Mb/s Dedicated IP's 2 IP's Is this enough for my 200 users? Also, which VPS OS is suitable for me?   Hello, I am using qt 4.5 I have created a project and I want to compile on visual studio 2008 for windows mobile 6.0 So I have created the project files doing this: D:\Projects\Phone_PDA\Phone_PDA>set QMAKESPEC=win32-msvc2008 D:\Projects\Phone_PDA\Phone_PDA>qmake -tp vc The VS project was created. However, when I try and compile I get this error: LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'c:\Qt\qt\lib\qtmaind.lib' However, when I check my librarys and includes under project properties in visual studio. I have this: Additional Include Directories c:\Qt\qt\include\QtCore c:\Qt\qt\include\QtGui c:\Qt\qt\include c:\Qt\qt\include\ActiveQt debug c:\Qt\qt\mkspecs\win32-msvc2008 Additional Library Directories c:\Qt\qt\lib Additional Dependencies c:\Qt\qt\lib\qtmaind.lib c:\Qt\qt\lib\QtGuid4.lib c:\Qt\qt\lib\QtCored4.lib However, when I browse to the directory c:\Qt\qt\lib all I have is: qtmain.prl and qtmaind.prl However, I don't have qtmaind.lib or qtmain.lib Many thanks for any suggestions,

  I just upgraded to m2eclipse version 0.10 which includes an embedded Maven 3 and I'm now getting the following error when trying to run a build. • XML Serialization in C# without XML attribute nodes

  Hello, I have an XML document format from a legacy system that I have to support in a future application. I want to be able to both serialize and deserialize the XML between XML and C# objects, however, using the objects generated by xsd.exe, the C# serialization includes the xmlns:xsi..., xsi:... etc XML attributes on the root element of the document that gets generated. Is there anyway to disable this so that absolutely no XML attribute nodes get put out in the resulting XML ? The XML document should be elements only. Duplicate? XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces

  What's the best way to get the contents of the mixed "body" element in the code below? The element might contain either XHTML or text, but I just want its contents in string form. The XmlElement type has the InnerXml property which is exactly what I'm after. The code as written almost does what I want, but includes the surrounding <body>...</body> element, which I don't want. • how can I code a recursive query in an Entity Framework model?

  Hi, I have a model which includes NODES, and RELATIONSHIPS (that tie the nodes together, via a parent_node, child_node arrangement). Q1 - Is there any way in EF / Linq-to-entities to perform a query on nodes (e.g. context.Nodes..) to find say "all parents" or "or children" in the graph? Q2 - If there's not in Linq-to-entities, is there any other way to do this other than writing a method that manually goes through and doing it? Q3 - If manual is the only way to do it, should I be concerned about the number of database hits that will be going out to the database as the method keeps recursing through the data? Or more specifically, is there any EF caching type feature that might assist here in ensuring the method is performance from a "number of database hits" point of view? thanks thanks

• How to set ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json to false?

  I'm using Rails 3 w/ Mongoid, (so no ActiveRecord). Mongoid uses ActiveModel's "to_json" method, and by default that method includes the root object in the JSON (which I don't want). I've tried putting this in an initializer: ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json = false But get the error uninitialized constant ActiveModel::Base Any ideas how I can change this? I changed the default directly in the source-code and it worked fine, but obviously I'd like to do it properly. The variable is defined at the top of this file: Github - activemodel/lib/active_model/serializers/json.rb From the docs: "The option ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json controls the top-level behavior of to_json. It is true by default."

• Why won't this Apache modrewrite RewriteRule work?

  I'm trying to get Apache mod rewrite to work on my local machine. I'm running OSX with PHP 5 and the Apache mod rewrite module is enabled. I have a directory called localhost/~Jason/hfh/admin with various PHP includes called based on a $_GET variable. I want to let users type (in theory) localhost/~Jason/hfh/admin/pages and have that URL stay in the address bar, while what gets displayed is localhost/~Jason/hfh/admin/?admin=pages So. I've created a .htaccess file that sits in the /hfh directory. Inside, I've put this mod rewrite text: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^admin/([^/.]+)/?$ admin/?admin=$1 [L] When I go to the browser and type localhost/~Jason/hfh/admin/pages I get a "Problem loading page" error, and Firefox says, "Oops. Firefox can't load this page for some reason." Can anyone help me figure this out? I have such a hard time with regex and mod rewrite...

I am running Eclipse Gallileo Build id: 20100218-1602 on Windows 7 Ultimate I am running php 5.3.8 The Zend Extension Build and PHP Extension Build are both - API220090626,TS,VC9 Solutions Tried: I have verified that port 9000 is available for use, I have even tried other ports as a double check that ports was not the issue. That includes setting the ports in both the php.ini file and in the Eclipse development environment.   I have the following DataServiceQuery running agaist an ADO Data Service (with the update installed to make it run like .net 4): DataServiceQuery<Account> q = (_gsc.Users .Where(c => c.UserId == myId) .SelectMany(c => c.ConsumerXref) .Select(x => x.Account) .Where(a => a.AccountName == "My Account" && a.IsActive) .Select(a => a)) as DataServiceQuery<Account>; When I run it, I get an exception: Cannot specify query options (orderby, where, take, skip) on single resource As far as I can tell, I need to use a version of "SelectMany" that includes an additonal lambda expression (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb549040.aspx), but I am not able to get this to work correctly. Could someone show me how to properly structure the "SelectMany" call? Thank you for any help.

  I am trying to import a KPI from Analysis Services into a PerformancePoint Scorecard, and when I do, The Dashboard Designer throws an error: An unknown error has occurred. If the problem persists contact an administrator. There may be additional information in the server application event log. When I examine the event log, I find the following exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.AnalysisServices, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. • No Properties path set - looking in classpath

  For whatever reason my project has decided it cannot find my transaction.properties file. It is located in the : src/main/resource However it looks in looks in target/classes/ The file also resides yet throws the errors(see below) These all seem to stem from the whole in the init of code I have no acces to which is always fun. • WAMP Apache 403 Forbidden error

  I have recently changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 and have reinstalled WAMP server on my localhost testing pc. I have copied over my backup site too and this is working correctly. I have installed tinyMCE javascript editor as well as ajaxfilemanager. Everything works except when accessing a file i get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /catalog/admin/includes/javascript/tinymce/plugins/ajaxfilemanager/ajaxfilemanager.php on this server. I can access this file/folder through Windows explorer and all other parts of my site works (php, js in other section etc). Thanks for any help!

  I don't know RC scripts. I want to include Product version, File version, etc. metadata into a DLL I'm building. I'm using an .rc file to do that. The build is makefile driven. I'm following along with an example .rc scrpit I found. The template .rc file includes afxres.h , but I don't think I need that. But if I just remove it I get a bunch of compile errors. What does a basic, non-MFC RC script look like? • HTML5 cache manifest: whitelisting ALL remote resources?

  I'm doing an iPhone version of a desktop site that includes a blog. The blog often embeds images from other domains (the image URLs always start with http:// in this case, obviously), but because I'm using cache-manifest, these images don't load because they aren't declared in the manifest file. I have a NETWORK: whitelist section that has all of my AJAX request files, etc. I've even whitelisted the flickr farm domains because a lot of the images we add to the blog come from our flickr page. The flickr images show up just fine, but any other "random" image hotlinks from another domain show broken. I tried adding a line like this: http:// to the NETWORK: section, but it doesn't seem to like http:// as a whitelist. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks! Alex

  Is it possible to bind a foreign key relationship on my model to a form input? Say I have a one-to-many relationship between Car and Manufacturer. I want to have a form for updating Car that includes a select input for setting Manufacturer. I was hoping to be able to do this using the built-in model binding, but I'm starting to think I'll have to do it myself. My action method signature looks like this: public JsonResult Save(int id, [Bind(Include="Name, Description, Manufacturer")]Car car) The form posts the values Name, Description and Manufacturer, where Manufacturer is a primary key of type int. Name and Description get set properly, but not Manufacturer, which makes sense since the model binder has no idea what the PK field is. Does that mean I would have to write a custom IModelBinder that it aware of this? I'm not sure how that would work since my data access repositories are loaded through an IoC container on each Controller constructor.

• SharePoint Discussion Board "Last updated" field is not updated any more.

  On of our SharePoint users informed me today about a strange behavior of a discussion board on one of his sites. Normally the standard "subject" view of an discussion list has a field named "Last updated" showing the date and time of the last post within the corresponding thread. On the discussion board of our user this field is never set to the date/time of the last post but stays on the date/time when the thread was started. The site on which the discussion board is located was created from a custom web site template which includes the empty discussion board. To narrow this problem I created a second discussion board on the same site, with the result that it sets the Last updated field correctly. Any suggestions why the Last updated field doesn't update any more?

• TFS webtest for SSRS reports issue

  I am creating webtests in TFS and trying to test reports execution in SSRS. When I record the initial process, it includes Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd files. These files are what is causing the problem. When I remove the files, the report does not display, however if I keep the AXD files in it works fine. The problem with keeping the AXD files is the reportsession querystring variable that are included. If I run the report after a bit the reportsession has obviously changed. Any help is appreciated.

  Firefox has the Sandbox and evalInSandbox(). Chrome has sandboxed execution in their content scripts (they call it isolated execution). I'm looking for the same thing in an IE browser extension. I can load a javascript file, then call evalScript(), but the code executes in the same environment as javascript that exists on the page. I need a way to run my library (which includes and is based on jQuery) in an sandboxed/isolated environment, but still allow it to modify the DOM as if it were running on the page. Jint looks promising, but cannot currently evaluate jQuery. (They can parse it.) How can I do this?
