• Cron Permission Denied

  good day, I have a bash script in my home directory that works properly from the command line (file structure is default media temple DV. < noted for certain permission issues) but receive this error from cron: "/home/myFile.sh: line 2: /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql: Permission denied" NOTICE: it's just line 2... it writes to the local server just fine. Below is the Bash File: #!/bin/bash mysqldump -uUSER -pPASSWORD -hHOST dbName> /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql mysql -uadmin -pPASSWORD -hlocalhost dbName< /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql can't chmod from bash (lol, yeah i tried). writing the file there and setting the permissions before the transfer is useless... i have googled the heck out of this situation and this one still seems unique.... any insight is appreciated

• Bash Script to Back Up Backs Up Itself

  I have the following bash script that creates a tar.gz of my filesystem on a Kubuntu PC. The problem is, that it also tries to backup the tar.gz backup file, even though I am storing the backup in /tmp and omitting /tmp from the backup. • Windows 8.1 unable to play Music or the Audio from videos through Optical Out

  I am having an issue with my audio output, where any music file, and the audio side of videos are not being played through my optical audio output. I am running a Realtek HD Audio device built on Revision 1.0 on a GA-P55A-UD6 Gigabyte Board, which runs through it's optical output to an Astro A40 Mixamp, which does some upscaling before sending it to the headset. Now, notification sounds, and sounds/videos/music played through the browser or programs like Skype or games are working fine. This seems to specifically effect Foobar2000 and Media Player Classic. I have updated these two programs to their latest revisions, in addition to the soundcard drivers to no avail, and searching the error code thrown by Foobar2000: Unrecoverable playback error: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) through Google returns not very helpful results, other than the one potentially mentioning DRM. This issue I am having a very hard time resolving, and am wondering if anyone here has experienced similar issues after updating.

• Laptop authentication/logon via accelerometer tilt, flip, and twist

  Looking for another application/technology: A number of years ago, I read about a novel way to authenticate and log on to a laptop. The user simply had to hold the laptop in the air and execute a simple series of tilts and flips to the laptop. By logging accelerometer data, this creates a unique signature for the user. Even if an attacker watched and repeated the exact same motions, the attacker could not replicate the user's movements closely enough. I am looking for information about this technology again, but I can't find anything. It may have been an actual feature on a laptop, or it may have just been a research project. I think I read about it in a magazine like Wired. Does anyone have more information about authentication via unique accelerometer signatures?   Previous information concerning my issue can be found here: Virus...? Tons of people talking. Not sure where else to ask. I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed. • CentOS, YUM Errors?

  Hi, I am using a Media Temple DV server with CentOS upon trying to install ImageMagick via yum, I get the following error: There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/rpm/_rpmmodule.so: undefined symbol: rpmdbCheckTerminate Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. • Can someone recommend a Compact Flash card to be used as a boot disk/fixed disk.

  I have an early Acer Aspire One netbook, and the flash drive is really slow at writing. I've taken it apart to add more RAM, but I've pretty much stopped using it. I've read about people replacing the SSD with a Compact Flash card and a CF to ZIF adapter but I've also read about some Compact Flash cards where the manufacturer has permanently disabled the boot flag to stop people doing this kind of mod. (Can't find the link any more though). (Although I have just found some info about CF cards that says "Most CompactFlash cards by default identify themselves as removable media instead of fixed disk" and that this is an issue for Windows. So my most specific question is: can someone recommend a compact flash card that does allow the boot flag to be set and to be set as Fixed Disk? Please say whether you've done it yourself, or just heard about it from someone else. Beyond that, is this generally a problem?

• best storage option for recording live streaming video

  We're creating a new web site that includes video chat capabilities. Wowza Server is being used for the streaming media. We would like the capability for users to record their video chats in certain circumstances. Is it feasible to record the videos to the same server running Wowza? Or performance-wise, would it make more sense to store them on another server? I understand SANs are popular as well, but I'm a little concerned about cost for those as we are on a fairly tight budget. Currently we have two servers with pretty decent RAID cnofigurations for storage, one has 14TB and the other 6TB. Mostly concerned if doing the recording on the same server as the streaming server (or web server), could significantly adversely affect that server's primary function.

  I created a new windows 7 SP1 base image. Everything is all fine and dandy with that. So i am now installing standard applications I would like Quicktime to manage .mov files. The only problem is WMP (Windows Media Player) won't give up the association to .mov files. It's driving me crazy... i've been reading threads on how to fix file associations. I would like to do it via registry, powershell or cmdline. • What is a good client for handling large amounts of mail ?

  Although the title sums it up nice, I'll repeat and explain. What would be a good email client for handling large amounts of mail ? Large portion of mails I receive come with attachments (zip, rar, pdf, dwg, etc.) and within a month I usually have another 1,5-2Gb of new mail. I've noticed that 'standard' Outlook Express (with whose interface I've been very happy) gets awfully slow after a while. Archiving helps but not much. Then I usually take the files, move them onto a dvd, delete all messages I can do without and start anew. The thing is, I would love to have them all in email client since I often go after some old mails (slow projects). So, what would be good alternatives ? If it is portable, that would also be nice, but I can also live without it. post scriptum: I love @gmail, but cannot use it for work. I know I could theoretically forward all of it there, and back, but that approach doesn't make my boss very happy (email handling policies and similar).

• Seeking web-based FTP client for very large file upload

  I have looked around for these for some time... the limits imposed by the web server and/or the dynamic programming environment (e.g. PHP) are far too restrictive for the application I'm working on. We need to be able to move large graphics and video files to and from clients (ranging from tens of MB to a few GB in a single file). Plain FTP with a proper desktop client will do the trick, and we're hosting this in Amazon EC2 with EBS. User management will be done from the office via webmin. Users are chroot-jailed into their home dir by proftpd. net2ftp will work for many clients, but we often need to move single files that approach 1GB or exceed 2-3GB which is way out of the range of any http-based uploader. So we turn to Java or Flash - can they do it? From within the web browser establish an FTP connection and grab a huge file? There are licensed applets and such out there, but none seem convincing. Again, I'm looking for some code that can speak FTP and read (& write?) the local disk, that is delivered in a web browser, and can move single files of 2GB+. The reason for having a web-based interface to FTP is to skip the software installation step for our clients. I will consider proper desktop client software as long as it's "portable" and at least Win+Mac and can be easily configured by lay-man users in a hurry.

Is there a service or perhaps some software that would allow me to host my music "in the cloud", or in some other way access it from a different computer? I've searched for something like this and the closest I've found is the Media Player application found in Opera Unite, but that requires my home computer to be turned on at all times, which is less than ideal. I'm willing to pay, but not so much that I could just rent a private server for a lower price. Thanks in advance.

• Options for installing software on Amazon EC2 Windows instances

  I've been running Linux servers on Amazon EC2 for a while now; the experience has been great. I've recently needed to bring up a Windows server to run some Windows-only software that our product needs to use, and am running into a problem figuring out how to install the software, which is only available on DVD. With Linux I can just install packages from a Web-based repository and take advantage of EC2's fast network throughput, but so far on the Windows instance I've had to upload my ISO images to EC2 and mount them from the Windows EC2 instance. For some reason I'm getting really slow upload speeds to EC2, even though the regular upload speed from our office is pretty good (around 7Mbps). I've also tried mounting the DVD drive on my machine as a local drive on the EC2 instance via Remote Desktop, and then running the software install from the local drive, but I run into the same slow upload speed issue. Does anyone have a better way to install software from physical media onto an EC2 instance ?

• Free internet radio station server software with remote broadcasting?

  I am in the process of creating an internet radio station, but the two djs I have for it are not able to be in one place. I need for them to be able to login to a web based broadcasting session that still has full functionality. They need to be able to broadcast thier live shows with talk and music. The music will be stroed on the server. I have checked out the Broadwave media streaming server from NCH, but ti does not have the ability to login as a dj from a remote computer. I don't have any money for this, so I need it to be free. If this is not possible, I need it to be cheap!

• background copy large files to a laptop?

  Hey All, I like to watch windows media center recorded TV files on my laptop in bed. I find thought that when the programs are in HD I have a lot of stuttering and delays--no doubt b/c of the amount of data being transferred. I actually have a fair amount of space on the laptop's hdd, and wouldn't mind moving the files onto that hard drive, where no doubt my problem would go away. But that requires some planning & time for the files to move. Is there a utility out there that would kind of 'trickle' the files over to the laptop over a long period of time, w/out soaking its bandwidth? Something like ms' BITS tech? • Unable to launch onscreen keyboard (osk.exe) from a 32-bit process on Win7 x64

  90% of the time I am unable to launch osk.exe from a 32bit process on Win7 x64. Originally the code was just using: Process.Launch("osk.exe"); Which won't work on x64 because of the directory virtualization. Not a problem I thought, I'll just disable virtualization, launch the app, and enable it again, which I thought was the correct way to do things. • Best way to transfer files across unstable LAN?

  This is very similar to Question 326211, but in this case, the LAN is an unstable Wi-Fi connection. I need to transfer about 11 GiB of files between two computers, both running Linux (although one may be rebooted into Windows.) Their connection is both slow and unstable (due to Linux's awful Wi-Fi support,) but removable media (such as a flash drive or external hard drive) is not an option at this time. Right now, I'm slowly transferring the files, one by one, across SFTP, but I have to reconnect each computer approximately every 90 seconds, and the computers are not very close to each other, so this is not feasible. This is not a duplicate of Question 30186; that one specifically concerns Windows 7, and all the proposed solutions involve closed-source, Windows-only programs (which are all spyware IMHO, and are all off the table even if I trusted them - one of the computers is Linux-only.)

• PPP connection between PalmOS and Ubuntu (over ttyUSB0?) without crashy "visor" kernel module

  I have a Palm Treo 680 which I'd like to use as a media remote, using Palm MPC. Almost the exact instructions on that page used to work perfectly for establishing a PPP connection over the USB cable; I think I last tried it in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). In Karmic, I find that /dev/ttyUSB{0,1} are not present by default, and when I modprobe visor to get them, the Palm immediately crashes and reboots, as seen in Ubuntu bug 522753 (it reboots again as long as the module is still loaded and USB is still connected). The usbserial module has the same result. From reading that bug and elsewhere, it appears that the visor module is abandoned, and jpilot and friends use some other approach to talk to PalmOS over USB these days, which might not even involve a ttyUSB device. My question is, therefore: How do I create a PPP connection between PalmOS and Karmic without crashing the Palm?

• jquery-autocomplete does not work with my django app.

  Hi everybody, I have a problem with the jquery-autocomplete pluging and my django script. I want an easy to use autocomplete plugin. And for what I see this (http://code.google.com/p/jquery-autocomplete/) one seems very usefull and easy. For the django part I use this (http://code.google.com/p/django-ajax-selects/) I modified it a little, because the out put looked a little bit weired to me. It had 2 '\n' for each new line, and there was no Content-Length Header in the response. First I thought this could be the problem, because all the online examples I found had them. But that was not the problem. • Will new Acer Revo (with Atom 330) be fast enough to be MythTV client/server?

  As a geek I really like Atom CPUs but can't find a reason to buy one yet :( Although I was thinking about making my own DVR with NAS and media center functionality. Unfortunately, even today's Acer Revo, built on ION platform is not fast enough for streaming Full HD videos. So what do you think, will new two core CPU make it better, will it be able to show Full HD videos, store them to disk and transfer something over the network at the same time? Will it be able to scale videos from Hulu and YouTube to fullscreen?
