• A very basic issue with routes in ruby

  I am new to ruby and while creating a sample application found out an issue that whenever I go to http://127.0.0.1:3000/people/index by default show action is executed and index is taken as a parameter. This is server log: Started GET "/people/index" for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-12-23 18:43:01 +0500 Processing by PeopleController#show as HTML Parameters: {"id"=>"index"} I have this in my route file: root :to => "people#index" resources> :people match ':controller(/:action(/:id(.:format)))' What is going on here and how can I fix the issue?

• Why does A* path finding sometimes go in straight lines and sometimes diagonals? (Java)

  I'm in the process of developing a simple 2d grid based sim game, and have fully functional path finding. To show you really what I'm asking, I need to show you this video screen capture that I made. • Basic CHMOD restriction

  i have an uploads folder on my website. What i want to do is restrict users from accessing like i dont want them to go to www.mysite.com/uploads/ and see the files in there and it should show forbidden, but they should be able to download via my website, for example www.mysite.com/downloads.php?id=1 If thats not possible, how can i atleast not show them the directory index on /uploads How is it that file sharing websites does this? An htaccess with deny from all stops php from accessing the file as well Please tell me a solution if you would know, i googled and asked on irc a few days ago about this issue, its pretty confusing to me.

• Good portfolio projects

  Hi, I am a recent graduate and am looking to start a career in web development. Its kind of a catch 22 at the moment as I have a fair bit of programming experience from university but not really in web development and to get a job in web development a portfolio is typically required. So, I am looking to start a building a few application in order to have something to show potential employers. Im more into the backend stuff although am just as comfortable with front end development. Does anyone have any thoughts on some potential projects that would be both relatively quick (as i need to get a job soon!) to build but show off enough programming knowlege / skills to be impressive to employers. At the moment i am also learning to use the zend framework and I would hope to find work using such a framework (mvc). My initial thoughts would be things like a webmail app or maybe a custom CMS. Any ideas would be greatley appreciated.

• iPhone: How to Display Underlined Text in a Button?

  I want to display the mail ID in my view such that clicking the mail ID should open the mail composer view. I want to display the button text as underlined to show it is a hyperlink and for the button click event to call the mail composer view. At present, I am not able to show the button text underlined. I thought of placing a label above the button and adjusting the label property to get the underlined text but that did not work. Is there a different way to get the appearance and behavior I want?

  I want to show some panel with a label that is located on a MasterPage from inside it's child pages.. I already did the coding on the MasterPage: public class MyMaster : MasterPage { public void ShowPanel(string pMessage) { labelInside.Text = pMessage; myPanel.visible = true; } } Then I make the calls from child pages: public void ShowPanel(string pMessage) { MyMaster masterPage = this.Master as MyMaster; masterPage.ShowPanel(pMessage); } This "works" ok, but it won't show nothing, since I need the page to be "refreshed" in an "ajax-way" like an UpdatePanel, which I can't use because the Trigger is in another page, right? I really need this to work.. even if you have another completely different way to do this, I would appreciate.

What should happens: 1) Click once on icon with mouse left button then Balloon with some text should appears 2) Double click on icon will show again app window On Windows 7 MouseDoubleClick is also fired but window is not showing. I don't know why. • Identifying CDs

  I'd like to be able to determine what music album CD is in a CD drive. For example, if someone claims that the CD in their drive is Eminem - The Eminem Show, I would like to be able to verify that the CD is indeed The Eminem Show. Any ideas? I've applied for a Gracenote developer license, but they won't get back to me for five days. Also, how does this work? Is there some GUID or other unique identifier that music discs are encoded with? Lastly, might this be possible with data CDs, like, say, the Diablo II install Disc 1? If so, any directions you can point me in, for accomplishing this?

  My python script uses subprocess to call a linux utility that is very noisy. I want to store all of the output to a log file, but only show some of it to the user.   Operating systems read from disk more than what a program actually requests, because a program is likely to need nearby information in the future. In my application, when I fetch an item from disk, I would like to show an interval of information around the element. There's a trade off between how much information I request and show, and speed. However, since the OS already reads more than what I requested, accessing these bytes already in memory is free. What API can I use to find out what's in the OS caches? Alternatively, I could use memory mapped files. In that case, the problem reduces to finding out whether a page is swapped to disk or not. Can this be done in any common OS?

  Hi, I am new to iPhone development and really have no idea how to do what I am trying to implement. Here is my problem, I need to display the users current street and city as text in my iPhone app (See picture). I have seen many posts on stack overflow and other websites about how to do this but they are all just code examples. As I said before, I am a extreme beginner. I just need to show the MKReverseGeocoder and its output as text in my application. If someone could walk me through how/where to create the ReverseGeocoder and how to make it show up in my application I would be extremely grateful. I have searched for hours trying to find a beginner example but alas I cannot find one that lays it out step by step. I hope this can help me out.

• UIPopover Sizing

  I have a UIPopoverController which I'm trying to show from a UIBarButtonItem in a navigation bar. Despite setting the resizing mask for the tableview inside the popover's content viewController, it takes up the whole height of the screen. The only thing which has any effect on the content size is menuPopover.contentViewController.view setFrame:CGRect. • installing windows service with SC.exe or InstallUtil.exe - there is difference but which?

  hejdig. SC.exe and InstallUtil both install/uninstall windows services. But they don't seem to work the same way. What is the difference? For instance InstallUtil fails (some file or dependency not found error) while Sc create happily installs the service. Too add to the strangeness; the service doesn't show up if I run net start in the console. But it does show up in the services GUI. Variants of this happen when I try to uninstall. I have written the service myself and earlier versions work. Dotnet3.5. /OF
