• Does System.Web.mail (CDonts) issue smtp quit commands?

  .net System.Net.Mail does not issue SMTP quit commands in version 3.5 or lower. Although the problem is fixed in .net v4.0 RTM, unfortunately v4.0 cannot handle attachments in an email larger than 3-4MB's so I can't use it in my solution. I was thinking of maybe rolling back to the now outdated CDonts found in System.Web.Mail. Can anyone confirm if CDonts mailing routines explicitly issues SMTP Quit commands?

• Default.aspx issue with IIS 6.0 and .Net 4?

  We have deployed a .net 4 asp.net site on IIS 6.0. Default.aspx is configured as one of the default document. When we access the site using the following url http://testsite We expect it to render http://testsite/Default.aspx But instead we get 404 Not found error. We did not had this issue when it was deployed on .Net 2.0. Only thing that has changed on the server is that we use .Net 4 instead of .Net 2.

I'm having an issue with Firefox and anchor links from an external page to a tab div on the landing page; while IE render these correctly (I know, that means little), FF and Chrome both send the user to a place somewhat above or below the actual anchor tag. • Upgrading only certain packages via the getdeb repo

  I'm a bit confused about how getdeb.net works now. The last time I got a package from there was a while ago; at that point the procedure was that you would just download a .deb for each package that you wanted to install/upgrade and then install it using dpkg -i. However the inexorable march of progress has lent its trumpets to this system as well, and getdeb installs are now done via their repo, which is registered with apt in /etc/apt/sources.list.d, after you install a single package that makes the changes to the apt database. I've installed that package, and I've discovered that aptitude dist-upgrade now wants to upgrade a lot of packages on my system that weren't ready for upgrades prior to the installation of the getdeb package. If I rename the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/getdeb.list to something with a different extension, then do aptitude update && aptitude dist-upgrade, it stops wanting to upgrade packages. So I gather that the default behaviour is now to upgrade all packages to the version available at getdeb. This is not particularly appropriate, since these packages are not as well tested as the officially released versions. Is there a config setting somewhere that will prevent upgrading packages to versions from the getdeb repo unless this action is specifically selected? I'd like to be able to pick and choose what packages are upgraded via getdeb.

• F# PowerPack 2.0.0.0 issue: The task ..."…\fslex.exe" is invalid

  I have upgraded F# PowerPack today to the latest 2.0.0.0 and tried to rebuild the MiniCalc sample from here: http://achrissmith.blogspot.com/2010/04/fslex-and-fsyacc-examples-updated.html If I build it in VS 2010 it fails with the message: C:\Program Files\MSBuild\FSharp\1.0\FSharp.PowerPack.targets(32,3): error MSB6004: The specified task executable location "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\fslex.exe" is invalid. If I build it from the command line by MSBuild it complains about missing C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\fslex.exe The problem is kind of “fixed” if I copy fslex and fsyacc to that both directories, so after that I can build from the command line and from VS 2010. But it does not look like a right way to solve the problem. What is the right way? EDIT: The same issue is true for the PowerPack sample from sources: May2010\workyard\tests\LexAndYaccMiniProject. Now (after the trick I have done) it is built fine, too.

• Issue with jQuery ajax post (working with get). error 12031

  hi, UPDATE: I didn't set the response mimetype to 'application/json'. It works now. In the website I'm working on (http://piem.org:8000/) I've got an issue with an ajax post request. Every time the search button is clicked or the google maps 'idle' is triggered I send a request to get some data. While the request works as expected in most cases, it returns an error when I click a result and come back to the search page. (type 'barcelona' in the search box to get the unique restaurant in the db). The server processes the request properly but it seems that the error occurs when the javascript receives it (it returns a "12031" error code). It works properly with FF 3.0.6, IE 8.0 and Chrome 5.0 with GET, and with FF with both POST and GET. Anybody can help? thanks jul

• jQuery UI sortable issue with helper Y offset value being same as scroll offset on FireFox only

  I have a problem with a jQuery UI 1.7.2 sortable list in Firefox, IE7-8 work fine. When I'm scrolled down a bit, the helper element seems to have an offset of the same height that I'm scrolled down from the mouse pointer which makes it impossible to see which item you originally started dragging. How do I fix this or work around the issue? If there is no fix what is a really good alternative drag-able plugin?   Hello! we are tying to port a J2EE app from OAS 9.0.4 (working perfectly) on OAS 10.1.3.5 the reson we do that is because we need the app compiled with java 1.5 and OAS 10.1.3.5 would be the single major version supporting that binaries which has oc4j/orion kernel. The issue is that the security constraints in matter of user/group/role are not read by the app server, and instead of asking for these sets of users, i have to use the oc4jadmin instead the selected users for auth. All xml files needed for describing these sets of rules are being checked with the OAS book, and it seems they are correctly filled in... anybody has an idea about this?

  Hi, it's an important security issue and I'm sure this should be possible. A simple example: You run a community portal. Users are registered and upload their pictures. Your application gives security rules wenever a picture is allowed to be displayed. For example users must be friends on each sides by the system, in order that you can view someone elses uploaded pictures. Here comes the problem: it is possible that someone crawls the image directories of your server. But you want to protect your users from such attacks. If it's possible to put the binary data of an image directly into the html markup, you can restrict the user access of your image dirs the user and group your web application runs of and pass the image data to your apache user and group directly in the html. The only possible weakness then is the password of the user that your web app runs as. Is there already a possibility? Yours, Joern.

  Hi, I am new to WPF. We are facing one issue. We are showing/launching a WPF browser application from an web (ASPX) application. The web application has a navigator menu with drop-downs (on hover). It works fine till the user is using the web application (aspx pages). But once the WPF application is launched (and is in the foreground on the aspx page) the dropdown menus that are on top of the WPF app is shown below the WPF application. The drop downs are in a <div> and we tried to put the ZINDEX value. But could not get any positive reply. Can somebody help?

• Is it possible to come over the time out issue for a function call in C#?

  In my program I call a method xslTransform.Load(strXmlQueryTransformPath, xslSettings, new XmlUrlResolver()); The problem I am facing is: sometimes this function doesn't execute well within the time. Sometimes compiler raises the time out issue after a long time of trial.. which inturn causes this part of application to shut. That is what I want to avoid. So if it exceeds certain time say 10 seconds I need to recall the method. Is it possible to add some code lines adjacent to this, which can meet the requirement?

  I am using netbeans to develop an applet, i have a piece of code which looked like this: ipAddresss = DEFAULT_IP; System.out.println("portlet.services.hostname:" + ipAddresss); Now I changed it to something like this: ipAddresss = DEFAULT_IP; System.out.println("portlet.services.hostname using default IP Address:" + ipAddresss); But no matter what I do, it sill keep on printing: portlet.services.hostname:null I have tried deleting all .netbeans folder from documents and settings, tried creating new project, but now i am completely baffled by this issue... So, the problem is, no matter what I do, no change is getting reflected when I run the program. Can there be a java applet cache, netbeans cache, i am not sure why...

• When should one let an application crash because of an exception in Java (design issue)?

  In most cases, it is possible to catch exceptions in Java, even unchecked ones. But, it is not necessarily possible to do something about it (for example out of memory). For other cases, the issue I am trying to solve is a design principle one. I am trying to set-up a design principle or a set of rules indicating when one should give up on an exceptional situation, even if it is detected in time. The objective is trying to not crash the application as much as possible. Has someone already brainstormed and communicated about this? I am looking for specific generic cases and possible solutions, or thumb-rules. UPDATE Suggestions so far: Stop running if data coherency can be compromised Stop running if data can be deleted Stop running if you can't do anything about it (Out of memory...) Stop running if key service is not available or becomes unavailable and cannot be restarted If application must be stopped, degrade as gracefully as possible Use rollbacks in db transactions Log as much relevant information as you can Notify the developers

• Exchange 2010 DAG Automatic Failover Testing/Issue. Not always automatically failing over to health

  Ok I've got 2 exchange 2010 servers that run client access/hub transport/mailbox roles and one exchange 2010 server running just client access/hub transport roles and acts as my bridgehead. The two mailbox servers are running one database setup in a DAG. Server A shows the DB Mounted and Server B shows Healthy. If I reboot Server A via windows GUI Server B switches from healthy to mounted and I see hardly any interruption in service using Outlook 2007. Server A shows "Service down", then "Failed" then "Healthy" and leaves the DB mounted on Server B. This is how it should work, so far so good. Now if I test Server A being shut down cold, or unplugging both nics from network to simulate failure, Server B switches from Healthy to Mounted and server A switches to "Service Down" but my outlook client never connects to the DB mounted on server B! I can connect to server C (client access/hub transport) and get to my email and even send new email out, but incoming email doesn't deliver until Server A is brought back online and it's DB goes back to Healthy status. So I don't understand why it auto fail-overs when I reboot the server with the mounted DB copy, causing very little outlook 2007 hiccup if any. But when I shutdown or DC the mounted DB server it DOES mount the healthy copy but outlook 2007 clients can't connect.. I hope the picture I'm trying to paint makes some sense, it's driving me a little batty. Any help would be appreciated!

  I found out that when I press the Insert key on the client I will block the OS X VNC server by putting it in a "help mode" where you get the question mark mouse cursor. The mouse works but I cannot use the keyboard anymore. Details: Reconnecting using VNC does not help Normal keyboard is working fine on the mac The only solution in addition to relogin was to stop the VNC server on mac using: killall OSXvnc-server After few seconds it will restart by itself and it will work. I don't like current workaround and looking for something better. Tested with these versions of the VNC client and all put the VNC server in the question mark mode, requiring service restart: Ultr@VNC 1.0.8.2 RealVNC 4.1.3 I know that the problem is caused by the different/bad implementation of the VNC protocol in the server but do you need an workaround?

• NFS issue: clients can mount shares as NFSv3 but not as NFSv4 -- or how to debug NFS?

  Problem description I have a file server running Debian. On it I have a few NFS shares. When I mount the shares from a client using NFSv3 (mount.nfs 10.0.0.51:/exports/video /mnt -o vers=3,soft,intr,timeo=10), it works. However, I would like to use NFSv4 because of improved security and performance. When I try to mount an NFSv4 share on malbec the mount command just hangs and finally times out after 2 minutes. How do I make the clients mount the NFSv4 shares as NFSv4? How do I troubleshoot NFS? There is no information in the syslog on neither client nor server. What are any errors in my configuration? • Metro apps crash on startup, driver or permissions issue?

  After installing Win8 x64 RC, Metro apps worked correctly, but desktop OpenGL apps were slow and unresponsive. I installed the latest Win8 nVidia drivers, and the OpenGL apps started working correctly. At the same time, because of annoying permission messages, I changed the C:\ drive and all its files ownerships to my user, and gave it full permission. I restarted my pc after installing the drivers, and now Metro apps only show the splash screen, then crash. I tried installing other versions of the nVidia drivers, with the same result. My GPU is a GeForce GTX275. Is this a known problem with nVidia drivers? Or maybe changing the ownership of C:\ is the real problem? Thank you. Every time I do this change and press Apply button and Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files is checked and press OK button it displays Applying attributes... dialog when it finishing I press OK button on folder properties dialog closing it. When I open Properties dialog once again I see Read-only is checked again. How can I fix it?

  i have a VPS hosted with myhosting.com, the domain is hosted in godaddy and the DNS records are managed in AMAZON route 53. i was told by myhosting support that i should create a PTR record on my DNS but i have read that in order to reverse DNS for an IP this record should be created in the ISP records wich sounds have sense. because if i want to get the domain name via an IP the request will never be forwarded to AMAZON instead it will ask the ISP for it am i rigth or MyHosting support is correct and i should setup PTR record on Amazon which i already did THANKS Oscar

• How do I fix issue causing "incomplete startup packet" log message trying to implement replication in Postgresql?

  I've got two cloud servers running Ubuntu 13.04 and PostgreSQL 9.2. I've primarily used this blog post to aid me in setting things up. However, to do the initial database dump to the slave I'm using pg_start_backup/pg_stop_backup strategy used in this other blog post. I've read through the docs and postgres wikis as well. I ran into several problems I was able to solve, but I can't get past this wretched "the database is starting up" failure. I'm not sure if seeing "cp: cannot stat '/var/lib/postgresql/9.2/archive/00000001000000000000003A': No such file or directory" after "consistent recover state reached" is normal or the first sign of a problem. The searching I've done on "the database is starting up" and "incomplete startup packet" tells me that something is sending empty TCP packets to the slave. The only thing that even knows about the slave is the master, so I'm not sure why it's sending empty packets... Has anyone worked with this and have an idea what might be going wrong? • SQL Server Issue: Could not allocate space for object ... primary filegroup is full

  Trying to figure out a problem at an office that has SQL Server 2005 installed on Windows SBS Server 2008. Here's the setup: It's an office, and the person who set this all up is nowhere to be found. I'm the best hope they have... One of the programs they use on a workstation gives them an error of "Could not allocate space for object 'Billing' in database "MyDatabase" because primary filegroup is full" when trying to save an entry in their software. I searched around for hours, looking for possible solutions. One was to check for available disk space, and another was to defrag. I checked the hard drives on the server, and there is plenty of space free. I also defragged, which may have helped the problem somewhat. It's hard to say, because it seems like with the nature of the error, if you try over and over you might get it to actually save. My next step was to try to see if autogrowth was enabled on the database. This would seem to be a likely / possible solution, but I can't access the database! If I run the SQL Management Studio, I can log in as my Windows user and view the list of databases. However, if I try to do anything (actually view the database, view the properties, add or edit users), I get errors that I don't have permission. For what it's worth, I also tried runing Management Studio as Administrator, in case that would help. No difference, though. Now, what I'm guessing is going on -- from my limited knowledge of SQL and from reading online -- is that though I'm logged in as a Windows administrator, that account does NOT have SQL access. I do see a list of SQL users, including SA, but I again don't have permission to add one or to change the password on an existing one. And nobody at the office has any idea what the SQL passwords could be. So... here's my thinking thus far: 1 - The "Could not allocate" error likely points to a database that needs to be allowed to autogrow. Especially since I verified there is plenty of free space and the HD has been defragmented. 2 - Enabling autogrow would be very easy to do if I had the proper access within SQL Management Stuido. That leads me to this link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sqlman/archive/2011/06/14/tips-amp-tricks-you-have-lost-access-to-sql-server-now-what.aspx It sounds like it's a step-by-step guide for giving me the access I need to SQL. I'm guessing that if I followed this guide, I would be able to then log in to the SQL server via Management Studio with the proper permissions, and would be able to enable autogrow (or simply view the status of the existing database), and hopefully solve the "Could not allocate space" problem! So I guess I have a few questions: 1 - Would you guys agree with my "diagnosis"? Think I'm barking up the right tree? 2 - Is there any risk at all in hurting / disabling / wrecking the current SQL database or setup with me going through the guide to regain SQL access? I understand that per the guide, I would have to temporarily shut down SQL, so obviously it wouldn't be accessible during that time. But it wouldn't be worth the risk if there's a chance I could mess anything up... Like I said, the workstations ARE currently accessing the database somehow, but nobody knows with what login info or anything. Basically, it's set up, it works (usually), but if they had to reload the software, nobody would know how. Any feedback would be appreciated!! The problem is such that it's not an emergency for them, but an annoyance. If I could fix it, it would be wonderful.   I am trying to combine multiple audit tables, and then filter the results into an excel sheet. The Union All and parameters make the query in excess of 1200 characters. It appears the string is truncated when running this. What recommendations can anyone make. I have no control over the database structure and am only reading foxpro free tables. • Why can I not access the internet when Windows 7 finds no issue with the ethernet connection and the network can see my device?

  So I just moved from a house to an apartment. In the house and the apartment I had Uverse set up - and in both I had my desktop connected via a ~40 foot long cat5 cable. However, upon moving to the apartment I found that my ethernet connection no longer provides internet. This would seem like a mundane problem if not for: The router can see the computer on the network Windows 7 (the desktop's OS) detects no problems with the ethernet connection. Connections over the internet (i.e. browser windows, Pandora, etc.) do not immediately fail. Instead they load for 2 minutes and then finally give up. Devices connected over the Wifi (PS4, Laptop) access the internet just fine While removing the cat5 cable from my house, I accidentally damaged the locking tab but managed to bend it back into the appropriate position. I would suspect that a bad cat5 cable might be to blame if not for the above issues (thought I've heard bad cat5 cables cause the most nonsensical problems) and the fact that I tested the cat5 cable by having it share internet between my laptop (working internet) to my desktop and it functioned just fine and provided the desktop with internet. My ipconfig /all successfully finds a default gateway, DHCP server, and DNS server. What could possibly be causing the problem?
