    Beginners and professional, on blogs, in forums and chatrooms - people say it everywhere: C++ oh dear god no The short form of the question: For what reason is C++ so widely disliked and people are horrified by the imagination of using it for some project? I have been using a lot of different languages, including C++ by now, and I can only say that I really like it. I'm far more horrified by Delphi than by C++. Actually, I find it's an almost perfect, compiled language! I've been doing a lot of different projects in C++ as well, ranging from 3D video games to webservers and emulators for old video game consoles. And I still do not see the problem everyone else seems to have with it! It was hard for me to get into it of course, as it is quite complex and has a lot of depth, but after that it's simply great.

  • No sound with a Creative Labs Soundblaster live EMU10K1X

    I just installed ubuntu. things seems great but I have no sound. When I go to the settings menu I chose from various setup. I found one that work which had 4 speakers a subwofer and a front speaker. When I test it the sound works fine. However, when I try playing an *.mp3 file or try to watch a video on you tube I get no sound at all. I have a dual boot with windows XP and there is no problem in windows at all. Below is my setup.     as you may know very well, every individual related with software development is somehow related to the science or the activity that the program was made for, I am currently working as a programmer for a company that is dedicated to build enterprise software for ensurance business, before this job, I was working with a travel agency developing extra modules for the CRM they use (VTiger), so I can say I am related to ERP/CRM, the fact is, I would like to change this to another activity, like developing video games. I'd like to start developing games, by getting a job or making my own project, but: 1) I have no experience developing video games, is that an obstacle if I want to get a job? if is that so, how can I solve it? 2) if I want to make my own project I will need more people, like a graphic disigner or some others, isn't there a way to make the whole game by my own?

Edit : The Solution : Upgrade kernel and then update all graphic card drivers.Now there is no problem .

    I have been searching EVERYWHERE!!!!! And I cannot seem to find a driver for my GeForce 7300 GS video card. If I don't get it, the Android SDK emulator won't work. I get this error while starting the emulator up: X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 I looked up anything and everything, and the results I got was to get a video card driver, which I can not find.     I have a new file type that I would like to handle in gnome. Establishing a new mime type, a new thumbnailer and a new application to display the file type is done. But I need a new tab on the file properties page. This tab is analogous to the tabs for exif information for jpg files or for encoding information for video codecs, that says how long the video is. The files concerned are embroidery files and the file properties needed to be displayed are things like phisical dimentions of the design, how much thread will be used and how many colours. My belief is that with current gnome 3 this is not possible, am I right? Or should I take a wider view that in Ubuntu, anything is possible, just may be a bit difficult?

  • My ubuntu 11.10 gets weird lately

    I have quite a lot problems lately(about 2 weeks) running Ubuntu 11.10. First, flash playback in chrome hangs and lags all the time. While in Firefox is better, but still lags. Playing video files in the preinstalled Movie Player lags too. Second, I've turned automatic on and in some occasions, after I switched the computer on and successfully loaded the desktop, however, in just a minute or so, the screen just got black out and directed me back to the login page. I thinks there are bugs, please tell me how to correct those. Sysinfo: CPU: i5-2400 MB: GA H61M D2P B3 (no video card) Drive: Intel 320 40GB Thanks. p.s. should I upgrade to 12.04??

    I'm running 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Kernel 3.2.0-32 w/ GNOME 3.4.2 I perused the prior questions/answers and did not find exactly the same problem, I am concerned that AUTOFSCK, Grub or some other critical event that needs some attention ? Any idea on how to get my video clean during boot? Once I get past the boot screen the video driver/card, etc is performing beautifully !   • Collision detection problem in XNA

    I'm having two problems with my collision detection in XNA. There are two boxes, the red box represents a player and the blue box represents a wall. The first problem is when the player moves to the upper side or bottom side of the wall and collides with it, and then try to go to the left or right, the player will just jump in the opposite direction as seen in the video. However if I go to the right side or the left side of the wall and try to go up or down the player will smoothly go up or down without jumping. The second problem is that when I collide with the box and my key is still pressed down the blue box goes half way through red box and and goes back out and it keeps doing that until I stop pressing the keyboard. its not very clear on the video but the keeps going in and out really fast until I stop pressing the key.     This forum comment and this superuser answer suggest that the audio compression contributes to loss of quality. I've noticed that music played over my BT setup sometimes pitch bends in ways I don't remember the original doing, and I'm wondering if SBC has something to do with it. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 on a Mac Pro, connecting to a pair of Sony DR-BT50's. Is there a way to inspect which Bluetooth codec pulseaudio is using, what codecs both ends of the bluetooth link support?

When I try to playback using VLC I'm getting no audio, and an error saying that there is nothing I can do because VLC does not support the "samr" codec. Is there really nothing I can do to watch my videos on VLC? If not, whats the alternative? I really like VLC specifically because I never have to download codecs...

    Suppose I have two folders, dir1 and dir2, with deveral files in each of them, and all the files in dir1 are named like "ExampleFileName.flac" and all the files in dir2 are named as "ExampleFileName.m4a" - basically their names are the same except the extension. What I need to do is transfer all of the metadata for each of the files somehow - even though their codecs are different. It would be great if I can do this via command line, but anything is appreciated. Thank you.

    I have an swf (just a sequence of slides with audio, timing controlled by actionscript) that I want to convert to a compatible YouTube format (flv, mp4, etc.). I've tried using the Moyea SWF4Tube software but when it was converted all of the timing was gone. I'm fine with uploading as a swf, but the problem was (when I tried) that the codecs weren't appropriate. Any help regarding this is much appreciated, thanks.

    I have a Cisco 891W NATing Voice and Data to the internet over a 10mbit/2mbit connection. Voice traffic gets degraded when I upload large files. Pings time out as well. I tried to configure a QoS policy but it's basically not doing anything. Voice traffic still degrades when upload bandwidth gets saturated.
