• How to Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10?

  So firstly I tried to install Ubuntu, from the website to run alongside Windows. Went through Wubi etc. Asked me if I wanted to try or Install, I selected install. I selected option to run alongside Windows 7 but when it was partitioning it failed and I only had the fresh install as an option as probably Windows became corrupt then? So I installed Windows again, ran Ubuntu from the livecd, went into gpartition, didn't really know what I was doing but anyhow, resized a partition which was 698gb, one was 100mb, I guessed CD drive. Gparted said it was gonna take three hours, so I took that for meaning Windows was corrupt again. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  I am trying to use a media rule to target css to iPad only. I want to exclude iPhone/iPod and desktop browsers. I would like to to also exclude other mobile devices if possible. I have used <style type="text/css" media="only screen and (min-device-width: 768px) and (max-device-width: 1024px)"> but just found out that desktop Safari 4 reads it. I have tried variations with "481px" instead of "768px" and another that adds an orientation to that: <style type="text/css" media="only screen and (min-device-width: 481px) and (max-device-width: 1024px) and (orientation:portrait)"> but not luck. (Later we will be sniffing user-agent strings for iPad, but for now that solution won't work.) Thanks!

• Most efficient way to download media files from a server from within an iPhone app.

  Hi, I have an iPhone application which contains a lot of media files, so far we have been able to keep the size of the iPhone app to less than 20 MB. We add new content with new updates, it would be difficult to keep the app size within the 20 MB limit. The right thing to do here would be to fetch the files on demand from a media/web server. If you have any pointers on how to go about doing this, please suggest. What we would need is to fetch the media files (.jpg/.png images ) on demand when the user taps on a small thumbnail for the image. Are there existing frameworks/servers that provide such services to iPhone clients. Thanks.

I'm trying to make a media Download bar for Chrome Browser like Real Player's one ( a DLL plugin ): Whenever you open a web-page which contents "media stream" like Youtube..., it will show a download bar at the left-top corner of the flash player - allow you to download this video/song to your computer. I know it use NPAPI to catch the media stream but how? Which method do I have to use? Is there any document for me? I have never worked on a NPAPI-project before.   I've got VMWare Player 2.5.x installed on a Ubuntu 8.04.3 host running CentOS 5.3 running Cobbler. VMWare Player has two NICs (I actually took this image from an ESXi image, converted it to Player 2.x image via VMWare Standalone Converter). I've also setup a vlan (vlan5) on the host with 10.0.0.x and I'd like Cobbler to use that VLAN to serve any incoming requests. How do I wire up my VMWare to use the VLAN I've setup? Just one of the NICs. What I'm trying to do is to offer a laptop with a VM that our sysadmins can go, plug it into a box (which does not connect to the interwebs) and install RHEL images via cobbler. So essentially, its a cross over cable from the network port on the lappy to the Dell server box. PXE boot in the dell box and install RHEL. I have the cobbler working fine under VMWare ESXi but not so on the VMWare Player because of the VLAN issue - I think. Any ideas?

• SQL Server Express backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

  Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server. • Python coding with VLC player (quite a basic query I expect)

  I'm fairly new to the whole coding realm so my knowledge is fairly limited, and I can't seem to find any basic tutorials on how to use scripts with VLC player. More specifically, the reason I'm asking here is because I stumbled across a post on this site about playing random clips from random videos on VLC player automatically. This is the forum post: Playback random section from multiple videos changing every 5 minutes My situation is similar to this lovely gentleman's was, though he clearly knows a lot more about coding than I do. In short, I'd like to copy this coding into a file of some sort and apply it to VLC player myself. Only I'm not sure what file type I'd have to save it as (I have Python by the way, and I tried saving it as a .py file but I didn't know if it was correct or where to go from there). Additionally, I'm not sure how to get VLC to "read" the script, so to speak - is there a specific location the file needs to be, and do I run the script from another program or through VLC? I'll reiterate that I'm relatively new to this, so if anybody would be so kind as to post a quick list of steps on how to save/place the file and use it with VLC player I really would appreciate it! P.S. I'm not computer illiterate, I'm fine with most programs and I'd understand if you just said things like "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins" or "in VLC, select Tools Plugins and extensions", I just wouldn't catch on to anything about adding a line of coding that does something without being told exactly what to write! The server is now using the default "WORKGROUP" workgroup and i need to know if i can install SQL Server on it then ship it to the other site where it will be joined to the domain without issues. What are the possible problems that could happen? are there any workarounds?

• MS Word opens documents hosted on WebDav share read-only on Windows Vista and 7 but only if no other

  We have a WebDav server with some Word documents on it. (We are using PHP's HTTP_WebDAV_Server but get the same issue on tests with Apache mod_dav - both use digest authentication, basic auth doesn't work on Vista or later) We have a web page that opens the word documents using javascript like: Doc = new ActiveXObject("Sharepoint.OpenDocuments.3"); Doc.EditDocument(url, 'Word.Document'); which causes word to connect to the webdav server and open the document, bypassing IE and most of windows built in WebDav client. On Windows XP, this works perfectly, and (after prompting you to log in) allows you to edit the word document and save it back to the server. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, this usually opens the document read only, but not in all cases. After quite a bit of trial and error, we found that it worked (i.e. opened read/write) if Explorer happened to be already connected to a WebDav server. Note that this works with any Webdav server, not neccesarily the one with the document that you are trying to edit. So other than telling our users to change settings on their machine, is there anything we can do in the javascript sharepoint call, or on the WebDav server that will fix this issue. Ps. We have the same problem when launching Word from an HTA file version of our system, with javascript like: wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp.Visible = true; doc = wordApp.Documents.Open(url); Pps. Sorry if you think this question should be on Serverfault (or even SuperUser). I couldn't decide, but because we are programming the WebDav server ourself (in PHP) and I have more rep on this site than the others, I decided to post it here :-)

  Hi, I am trying to add my program run in Windows 7 startup, but it doesn't work. My program has an embedded UAC manifest. My current way is by adding a string value at HKCU..\Run. I found a manual solution for Vista from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/81c3c1f2-0169-493a-8f87-d300ea708ecf Click Start, right click on Computer and choose “Manage”. Click “Task Scheduler” on the left panel. Click “Create Task” on the right panel. Type a name for the task. Check “Run with highest privileges”. Click Actions tab. Click “New…”. Browse to the program in the “Program/script” box. Click OK. On desktop, right click, choose New and click “Shortcut”. In the box type: schtasks.exe /run /tn TaskName where TaskName is the name of task you put in on the basics tab and click next. Type a name for the shortcut and click Finish. Additionally, you need to run the saved scheduled task shortcut to run the program instead of running the application shortcut to ignore the IAC prompt. When startup the system will run the program via the original shortcut. Therefore you need to change the location to run the saved task. Please: Open Regedit. Find the entry of the startup item in Registry. It will be stored in one of the following branches. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Double-click on the correct key, change the path to the saved scheduled task you created. Is there any free code to add item with privileges option in scheduled task? I haven't found the free one in torry.net. Thanks a lot.

• Rotate monitor to portrait on Windows Server 2003 with ATI card

  Does anyone know if it is possible to rotate a monitor from landscape to portrait mode on Windows Server 2003 32-bit with an ATI video card? According to Dell's site, I should be able to rotate my Dell P2310H monitor by installing drivers from their website, but they don't have drivers for Windows Server 2003. I let Windows Update search for the driver (with the driver CD that came with the monitor in my drive) and it did install drivers, but I still don't see any options for rotating. Some people say that the ATI Catalyst Control Center allows for monitor rotation, but I've never been able to run that software on Windows Server 2003. A google search reports that others have the same problem. Has anyone successfully figured out how to rotate a monitor on Windows Server 2003 with an ATI card?

• Can't install Windows 7 on Acer Aspire M1100

  When I install Windows 7, everything goes smooth but as soon as it's done and Windows needs to reboot for the last time before getting the desktop, the computer stucks to Verify DMI Pool Data............. and then, nothing. I change the CMOS battery, I tried so many setup in BIOS, even load default settings... Nothing worked. The HDD light is not flickering anymore, no HDD activity. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work. It's just impossible to load Windows 7. I tried Windows XP and this works fine. I also tried the Acer (Futureshop) recovery CD and I get an Hexademical error message stating the install cannot continue. Is there a BIOS flash apps somewhere or a fix I can apply to have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my computer. Any takers?

  We currently use group policy to configure a proxy server PAC file for Windows XP and Windows 7 computers on our network. We now are starting to get requests for Windows 8, but have noticed that our current GPO does not work for setting the proxy server on Windows 8 clients or server 2012. Is it possible to do this using a 2008 R2 domain controller or would we need to update our domain to a 2012 server? I found a reference to creating new GPO settings for "Internet Explorer 10 and 11" and vague references to using RSAT on Windows 8 to set IE 10 settings via preferences, but nothing that talks about using group policy to manage proxy settings.

  For those that are unaware, KSOD means blacK Screen of Death. Essentially, when windows starts my computer shows only the cursor and a black screen. It seems like any and all shell elements are disabled (or perhaps not started). I have seen a number of these questions asked, none of which have matched my situation. CTRL + ALT + ... does not respond Restarting in safe mode, results in the same KSOD sfc /scannow seems to have no effect when typed at the command prompt that is accessed using the recovery tools via the install disk Update to item 3: sfc /scannow reports: There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again. However, Windows does not restart past KSOD. Update to item 3 as per Soandos comment re: /offbootdir sfc /scannow /offbotdir=e:\ /windir=e:\windows "Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log..."

  Hello there, I have two OSes installed in my computer. - Windows XP Professional - Windows 7 Ultimate (Release Candidate 1/Build 7100) I used the Windows 7 boot loader by default to choose between OSes. When I was using my WinXP, my computer gets lagged suddenly and continuously, and the only way to fix it is by repair-installing it (because I've experienced this many times before, but without W7 installed). Everything goes OK. But when my XP was successfully reinstalled, I cannot boot my Windows 7 anymore. Every time I tried to boot the harddisk that contains W7, an error appeared. "TMGR is Missing". Now I have no idea how can I get back to my Windows 7. Any kind of help would be appreciated! :)

• Windows-Server-2003 setup on Dell-PowerEdge R310 is hanging [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Problems installing OS on Dell PowerEdge R410 I am trying to configure a Dell PowerEdge R310 server with Windows Server 2003. I've already configured the two hard drives as RAID1. The HD controller is PERC H700 Integrated and Adapter. Trying to stay with Windows Server 2003 on this fairly new server to save on cost and keep the configuration the same as my old server, which has been running like a champ for five years. Problem: During the OS installation, after everything has been copied from the installation CD, the installation hangs at a window labeled 'Windows Setup' with the message 'Setup is starting Windows' at the bottom. I'm wondering if this is a driver problem and if so, where can I get the drivers for the R310 or where can I get the media for the latest version of Windows Server 2003 which may include the necessary drivers? Will certainly appreciate some help here.

• Bluetooth device won't re-add after being removed (Windows 7)

  I've got a SBH52 headset, it works fine on my android phone, then I tried to use it with my Windows 7 PC, then it won't work because Microsoft Windows dosen't have native support for A2DP connections and one of the answers on the previous link said that removing the device from "devices and printers", running this software and then re-add the device would solve the problem. But the big problem is that they won't pair again: I tried, hopelessly, the suggested fixes from Windows, it won't work. By the way, it is Windows 7 (x64), it just looks like Windows 8. I had this problem once many years ago with other PC and Bluetooth device, I remember it had something to do with drivers that were not removed and I tried to delete them from somewhere, and as far as I remember it worked, but no idea how. In short, how can I pair it again with my PC?

I successfully configured WebDAV in IIS and enabled my repository indexing as described in Searching WebDAV Directories (IIS 6.0) I have verified that search is now supported by my WebDAV server, in OPTIONS request I can see DASL support: DASL: <DAV:sql> DAV: 1, 2 Public: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, DELETE, PUT, POST, COPY, MOVE, MKCOL, PROPFIND, PROPPATCH, LOCK, UNLOCK, SEARCH Allow: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, DELETE, COPY, MOVE, PROPFIND, PROPPATCH, SEARCH, MKCOL, LOCK, UNLOCK I connected to my WebDAV server from a client computer, which is Windows 8.1 and WebDAV is working well. I mounted a drive and connected using \\server@port\DawWWWRoot as described here. However my client computer, which is Windows 7, does not generate any search request. I have captured requests using Fiddler tool and found that Windows Explorer is not sending any search requests, instead it is sending a PROPFIND and downloading files. How do I make Windows Explorer to send SEARCH request to my WebDAV server?

  I have a windows 7 base install and a windows 7 vhd. I am attempting to create the scenario where when I boot up I have the option of loading the windows 7 base, the windows 7 vhd or a vista vhd. I used virtual PC to create a vista vhd and then used bcdedit to set up that vhd as an option on start up. When I select that option though it goes to a repairing installation screen, fails and asks to restart (repeats if i try and select that option again). Anyone know either a) what is happening in my situation and what i can do to fix it or b) a good tutorial/reference on how to create and use a vista vhd from windows 7

• Windows CA to issue certificate to authenticate SSH to a Linux server

  I have a Windows Server Root Certificate Authority, Linux SSH server, and users with Windows SSH clients. The Linux box is not part of the AD domain (and probably never will be [sigh]) OpenSSH 5.4 and above supports X.509 certiicate based authentication. I am trying to find a way to use my Windows Certificate Authority to issue certificates for authentication of the users when the SSH to the Linux box. I do not want to have to generate a keypair on each user's desktop. And we want the certificates controlled and revokable at the Windows CA. My question is not exactly the same as SSH from Windows to Linux with AD certificates (and the referenced moelinux.net seems to be down) I have searched Google a lot, and haven't found much results about how to accomplish this. An answer doesn't necessarily have to include a full tutorial, even some hints about what to search on or pointers to some references may be helpful.

  I'm using GRUB2 to dualboot Ubuntu and Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 some days ago and rewrote GRUB2 to cope with the dualboot. Everything went fine till yesterday - I could boot into both OS. Since this morning my laptop restarts every time I choose Windows 7 from the menu. Ubuntu is still working. As I tried to mount the partition with Windows 7 on Ubuntu it gave me return code 2, so this isn't working as well. I tried to reinstall GRUB2 to the MBR but it didn't help. I also tried to repair Windows 7 boot with it's install DVD, while trying so it showed me the following error: "Status: 0xc000000f Info: Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
