  How bad is it to use Location Manager to retrieve the location information when MapView.showUserLocation is also TRUE? I have a situation where i want to show the blue dot to indicate the user's current location, and i want to record the user's current location after some time interval. Having said that, there may be situations where the user's current location is now being shown, but i still want to get the user's current location. I think i'll have to use the Location Manager in my controller class, but setting showUserLocation = YES would mean that i'll be draining more battery since two Location Managers are working at the same time? Is this assumption correct?

• Unix [Homework]: Get a list of /home/user/ directories in /etc/passwd

  I'm very new to Unix, and currently taking a class learning the basics of the system and its commands. I'm looking for a single command line to list off all of the user home directories in alphabetical order from the /etc/passwd directory. This applies only to the home directories, and not the contents within them. There should be no duplicate entries. I've tried many permutations of commands such as the following: sort -d | find /etc/passwd /home/* -type -d | uniq | less I've tried using -path, -name, removing -type, using -prune, and changing the search pattern to things like /home/*/$, but haven't gotten good results once. At best I can get a list of my own directory (complete with every directory inside it, which is bad), and the directories of the other students on the server (without the contained directories, which is good). I just can't get it to display the /home/user directories and nothing else for my own account. Many thanks in advance.

  I'm writing a set of WCF services that rely on transport security with Windows Authentication using the trusted subsystem model. However, I want to perform authorization based on the original client user that initiated the request (e.g. a user from a website with a username/password). I'm planning to achieve this by adding the original user's credentials in the header before the client sends the message and then the service will use the supplied credentials to authorize the user. So I have a few questions about this implementation: 1) using transport security with windows auth, I do NOT need to worry about again encrypting the passed credentials to ensure the validity... WCF automatically takes care of this - is this correct? 2) how does this implementation prevent a malicious service, running under some windows account within the domain, to send a message tagged with spoofed credentials. for e.g. a malicious service replaces the credentials with an Admin user to do something bad? • Why not port Linux kernel to Common Lisp?

  Conventional wisdom states that OS kernels must be written in C in order to achieve the necessary levels of performance. This has been the justification for not using more expressive high level languages. However, for a few years now implementations of Common Lisp such as SBCL have proven to be just as performant as C. What then are the arguments against redoing the kernel in a powerfully expressive language, namely Common Lisp? I don't think anyone (at least anyone who knows what they are talking about) could argue against the fact that the benefits in transparency and readability would be tremendous, not to mention all the things that can't be done in C that can be done in Lisp, but there may be implementation details that would make this a bad idea.

  First of all please excuse my lack of knowledge, I'm new to Tortoise, and my bad English. My problem is that every time I do some operation with an URL like the following one: https://nttt.dttt.com:8443/svn/nttt/Med/trunk I get "Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to OPTIONS". The user and password I supplied was correct, so no problem there. I don't know where the problem lies, I don't know if it is the server(on witch I don't have any control) or my Tortoise client.   Ok so last year I participated in a high school curriculum contest thing at a college(I currently attend this college). I actually got 1st in it but was still a bit angry I didn't get every single one right. The most baffling of questions on there was How many lines of code does the average programmer write per day? A. 5 B. 10 C. 25 D. 30 Aside from being a subjective question which depended on language and everything else I was more baffled at what they had as the correct answer. 10. Even on my bad days at my job I touch more than 10 lines of code(either adding, modifying, or deleting) per day. And when I took this test I had only programmed as a hobby where it was common for me to write a few hundred lines for one of my new projects per day. Where are they getting this random number of ten!? Is this published somewhere? A quick googling found me nothing.

  I need to write a google gadget that reads feeds from google groups. Trouble is I'm making an ajax call to retrieve the feeds and our google apps domain is protected by CAS (central authentication service). So, I'm getting a 400 bad request on making the call. I suspect that the browser is not sending the cookie when making ajax call. How do I ensure that the cookie is also sent with the ajax call? OR if that's not supposed to be the problem, what do i need to do?

• How to remotely connect to jmx on tomcat using ssh tunnelling and not break ehcache...

  I've followed the instructions in the following link to create my own RMI registry and jmx server on a single port inside tomcat. According to the comments, I need to set -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=localhost. Once I do that, I can indeed connect to my server via jconsole using ssh port forwarding. http://blogs.sun.com/jmxetc/entry/connecting_through_firewall_using_jmx However, I've found it has the very bad side affect of breaking our ehcache replication which uses RMI. It fails complaining that it cannot bootstrap from remote peer localhost. I'm guessing because the peers all have their rmi server hostname set to localhost from setting -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=localhost. Does anyone have a possible workaround to this problem?

• Creating a Wiki site in SharePoint 2010

  I have a SharePoint 2010 site set up and would like to add a Wiki site to it. Normally, to add a subsite to a parent site you would click "Site Actions" - "New Site" and choose the site type (e.g. Team Site) and it would work fine. In the case of adding a Wiki site, I choose "Enterprise Wiki", and get "Error An Unexpected Error has occured Correlation Id:...". So i took the CorrelationId and checked in the ULS files to see what the error is, and the first bad sign seems to be: SharePoint Foundation Feature Infrastructure " The element of type 'ContentTypeBinding' for feature 'EnterpriseWiki' (id: 76d688ad-c16e-4cec-9b71-7b7f0d79b9cd) threw an exception during activation: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: Content type not found (Id: '0x010100C568DB52D9D0A14D9B2FDCC96666E9F2007948130EC3DB064584E219954237AF39004C1F8B46085B4D22B1CDC3DE08CFFB9C')." There are more errors in the log, but this seems to be the first one. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks

  Is it possible to add icons to the buttons on a jQuery UI Dialog? That's not bad, but I'd really like that little trash can sprite on the Delete button as well.

• OpenSwan IPsec connection drops after 30 seconds

  I'm trying to connection from my Linux Mint 16 box to a CloudStack server. Building up the connection works (pings work across the tunnel). However 30 seconds later the IPsec tunnel gets terminated out of the blue. What could cause this consistent behaviour and how to fix it? The tunnel is setup using OpenSwan (U2.6.38/K(no kernel code presently loaded)) with the L2TP IPsec VPN manager from Werner Jaeger 1.0.9. The client is behind a NAT'ed router and the server is on public IP (CloudStack 4.2) Running ipsec verify complains about IPsec support in kernel. • Google Charts Through CURL

  I have a PHP class that helps me generate URLs for custom charts using Google Chart service. These URLs work fine when I load them in my browser, but I'm trying to pull them using CURL so I can access the charts on secure https websites. Whenever I try and pull a chart via CURL, I get an Error 400 Bad Request. Any idea on how to get around this? • How to return a MVC View to a $.Ajax JSON POST

  I am sending a $.Ajax POST to a MVC Controller function with parameters and returning a JasonResult successfully. What I need to happen is that the current View be returned (as if it was not a JSON request and I was returning the Viewdata). The Viewdata has been updated and the page needs to be redrawn. In short, I want the MVC Action to respond back to the $Ajax request correctly, and then have the page redrawn using the updated Viewdata. Hope this makes sense, coming down with a bad cold.

  I have a root UIViewController which has a property called webView. WebView is a UIViewController with a XIB that contains a UIWebView. From my root view I modally (is there any other way?) load the webView ViewController and set its URL, always to the same page. I discovered that if, after loading the webView, I used its default Web page to navigate to another Web page, and then closed the webView and returned to the root controller -- AND THEN reopened the webView, that the webView was not showing the default page but rather the page I navigated to, which means the webView ViewController never got destroyed and removed from memory. This strikes me as very bad. So in the root ViewController, I added this code under viewWillAppear:animated -- if (self.webView != nil) { self.webView = nil) } Is that sufficient? Is there a better way?

  I need to extract Voip log from a D-Link router, so I've setup a little python script that executes a command in this router via telnet. My script does a "cat /var/log/calls.log" and returns the result, however... it also sends non-important stuff, like the BusyBox banner, etc... How can I ignore lines from 1 to 6 and the last 2 ?   In my android app, I'm setting an alarm that I want to occur repeatedly, hence using AlarmManager.setRepeating(). I don't want to keep track of whether the alarm is set myself (sounds like a bad idea that's prone to fail at some point), and there seems to be no API support for checking whether a particular alarm is already set for a given Intent. Hence, I am pessimistically resetting the alarm each time my app activates: alarmManager.cancel(pendingIntent); ... alarmManager.setRepeating(..., pendingIntent); Question: is calling setRepeating() idempotent i.e. do I need to explicitly cancel() any prior alarm or can I safely just call setRepeating() and be done with it?

  I have a very simple test application where I have two objects, each with a small collection of items. when I select an object I display its collection in a WPFToolkit DataGrid. The problem is there is a noticeable delay, such that if you press up/down keys to toggle selection between objects you can see it can't keep up.   I am trying to come up with a function that does a good job of sanitizing certain strings so that they are safe to use in the URL (like a post slug) and also safe to use as file names. For example, when someone uploads a file I want to make sure that I remove all dangerous characters from the name. • Push DVCS repository to master without needing codebase

  To work on a client's staging environment I have to connect through a VPN which locks all normal network traffic and prevents any connection to the Internet. This would immediately prevent any of the "normal" VCS solutions from being used as it's not possible to gain access to the server. A solution to this would be to create a DVCS repository (git?) locally and then push changes to the master, as and when needed. There is one flaw in this plan. The entire codebase is around 14GB. To download all of this over the internet would take some time, especially when I'm likely to be working on 3 or 4 different machines in each case. This seems silly and overkill for a DVCS. TL;DR Can any DVCS solution allow you to push to a master server/repo without needing the codebase? Bad example: copy the .git folder (not the 14GB codebase) to another directory and push this to the master once disconnected from the VPN.

  Hi, Due to OpenGL airspace issues I have several windows that are owned by the main window but look and act like controls. I also have some data readout/sort windows that show real-time data and need to be normal floating windows, also owned by the main window so that they remain floating above the main window even while operations are performed in the main window. The issue: I open a data readout window (normal window) and am watching data change. Then I click on a text box to enter a value in one of the windows that acts as a control due to airspace issues, and it becomes activated, covering up my data readout window. This is bad because the airspace window is supposed to act like it is part of the main window. I tried some tricks with Activation and Deactivation, and it looks ok but then editing the airspace window at all is impossible because WPF only lets me edit the activated window. How can I ask that normal data readout window to please stay above all other windows owned by the main window, but still let other windows receive focus?

  Java Decompiler (JD) is generally recommended as a good, well, Java Decompiler. JD-Eclipse is the Eclipse plugin for JD. I had problems on several different machines to get the plugin running. Whenever I tried to open a .class file, the standard "Source not found" editor would show, displaying lowlevel bytecode disassembly, not the Java source output you'd expect from a decompiler. Installation docs in http://java.decompiler.free.fr/?q=jdeclipse are not bad but quite vague when it comes to troubleshooting. Opening this question to collect additional information: What problems did you encounter before JD was running in Eclipse Helios? What was the solution?

• wampserver installation

  Hi. I'm trying to install wampserver on my windows xp pc. It is throwing this error: C:\wamp\wampmanager.exe An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory: MoveFile failed; code 2. El sistema no puede hallar el archivo especificado. Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation. First time on this error I tried to retry but it threw the error again and again. If I decide to ignore, then the installation finishes and all the files are correct but the exe to open wampserver. I tried to copy from one pc to other and I couldn't event paste it in the destination folder. Please healp me. Sorry for my bad english and thank you in advance
