  • Repetitive content in docstrings

    - by Morgoth
What are good ways to deal with repetitive content in docstrings? I have many functions that take 'standard' arguments, which have to be explained in the docstring, but it would be nice to write the relevant parts of the docstring only once, as this would be much easier to maintain and update. I naively tried the following: arg_a = "a: a very common argument" def test(a): ''' Arguments: %s ''' % arg_a pass But this does not work, because when I do help(test) I don't see the docstring. Is there a good way to do this?

  • Need to change the default browser for an MVC2 project

    - by schefdev
I just created my first MVC2 project using the standard template. I need to be able to change the default browser for my project to test in IE (I use chrome as the default on my OS). Unfortunately, the "right click on default.aspx" suggestion which worked in MVC1 can't work with these new projects as they don't have that file. I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple... Thanks.

  • Multi-tenant application on Windows Azure

    - by Alexey Zakharov
Hi guys, We want to create multitenant application with shared database table structure. Currently with standard SQL Server we could achieve that with providing TenantID for each table. Could we achieve the same on Windows Azure, but without TenantIDs? Best regards, Alexey Zakharov

  • How to save preferences to somewhere other than SharedPreferences

    - by Adrian
My application is used on multiple platforms so it saves it preferences to a file (rather than to the standard Android SharedPreferences). Is there any easy of reusing the PreferenceActivity to save preferences to a file or is it a case of creating a whole new activity to do the job? If the latter is the case is there a layout I can use that will make the activity look like the normal preferences screen? PreferenceActivity uses com.android.internal.R.layout.preference_list_content but this doesn't appear to be available to apps for reuse.

  • Trim a string in C

    - by Orion Edwards
Briefly: I'm after the equivalent of .NET's String.Trim in C using the win32 and standard C api (compiling with MSVC2008 so I have access to all the C++ stuff if needed, but I am just trying to trim a char*). Given that there is strchr, strtok, and all manner of other string functions, surely there should be a trim function, or one that can be repurposed... Thanks

  • Lightbox image / link URL

    - by GSTAR
Basically I have a slightly non-standard implementation of FancyBox. By default you have to include a link to the large version of the image so that the Lightbox can display it. However, in my implementation, the image link URLs point to a script rather than directly to the image file. So for example, instead of: <a href="mysite/images/myimage.jpg" rel="gallery"> I have: <a href="mysite/photos/view/abc123" rel="gallery"> The above URL points to a function: public function actionPhotos($view) { $photo=Photo::model()->find('name=:name', array(':name'=>$view)); if(!empty($photo)) { $this->renderPartial('_photo', array('photo'=>$photo, true)); } } The "$this-renderPartial()" bit simply calls a layout file which includes a standard HTML tag to output. Now when the user clicks on a thumbnail, the above function is called and the large image is displayed in the Lightbox. Now if the user right clicks on the thumbnail and selects "open in new tab/window" then the image is displayed in the browser as per normal, i.e. just the image. I want to change this so that it displays the image within a layout. In the above code I can include the following and put it in an IF statement: $this->render('photos', array('photo'=>$photo)); This will call the layout file "photos" which contains the layout to display the image in. I have a specific limitation for this - the image URL must remain the same, i.e. no additional GET variables in the URL. However if we can pass in a GET variable in the background then that is OK. I will most likely need to change my function above so that it calls a different file for this functionality. EDIT: To demonstrate exactly what I am trying to do, check out the following: http://www.starnow.co.uk/KimberleyMarren Go to the photos tab and hover over a thumbnail - note the URL. Click the thumbnail and it will open up in the Lightbox. Next right click on that same thumbnail and select "open in new tab/new window". You will notice that the image is now displayed in a layout. So that same URL is used for displaying the image in the Lightbox and on its own page. The way StarNow have done this is using some crazy long JavaScript functionality, which I'm not too keen on replicating.

  • Replacement for rdoc usage

    - by Andrew Grimm
According to this post, RDoc::usage is not currently available in ruby 1.9. Are there any good replacements available? I'd be interested to hear what's available from the standard install as well as what's available from gems.

  • mysql, sqlite database source code

    - by Yang
hi guys, i know implementing database is a huge topic, but i want to have a basic understanding of how database systems works (e.g. memory management, binary tree, transaction, sql parsing, multi-threading, partitions, etc) by investigating the source code of the database, since there are a few already proven very robust open source databases like mysql, sqlite and so on. however, the code are very complicated and i have no clue where to start. also i find that the old school database textbooks are only explaining the theory, not the implementation details. Can anyone suggest how should i get started and is there any books that emphasis on the technology and techniques of building dbms used in modern database industry? Thank in advance!

  • How to set the cursor in kEventControlSetCursor?

    - by fret
I want to be able to change the appearance of the mouse cursor as it moves over various hot spots in my view's and it seems to me that I should be doing that in the kEventControlSetCursor handler (which I can get). The function "SetCursor" is deprecated, which leads to the question, what do I call to actually change the cursor? And is there some standard list of cursors I can use? Things like horizontal and vertical arrows? I beam?

  • Create flow diagram programmatically

    - by Julian Lettner
I want to visualize components and connections of a HVAC system with .NET/C#. The diagrams will just include a few different components and their connections. They do not have to comply to any formal standard and should look alike the diagrams attached. In addition the user should be able to select a single component/connection (so that I can display additional data). Which free drawing/charting library would you use and why? Thanks for your time.

  • How does changing armv6/armv7 architecture to armv6 affect my iPad app? Will there be performance/st

    - by Flocked
Hello, I need to change the the architectures of "Any iPhone OS Device" from "Optimized (armv6 armv7)" to "Standard (armv6)" for a library. I'm not exactly sure what effect will this have on the performance and stability of my iPad app. If I understand it right, the iPad has the armv7 architecture. I'm not so familiar with architectures, so I don't know what it means.

Have any of you guys/girls have used ruby's Mechanize library on a site that required SSL? The problem I'm experiencing at the minute is that when I try to access such a website the mechanize tries to use standard http protocol which results in endless redirections between http// and https://

  • Securing a .NET Application [closed]

    - by beakersoft
Duplicate: Protecting .NET Code from Reverse Engineering We've recently released a small application and this weekend I found a cracked version of it on Piratebay that had the registration checking removed, so the app ran as if it was a registered version. Apart from using a code obfuscation tool (which doesn't seem to be that hard to get around), are there any standard things we should be doing to make our .NET applications more difficult to crack?

  • Can I use OAuth for a SOAP web service?

    - by Olaseni
The standard HTTP Authentication for SOAP passed the password etc in cleartext, and I'm looking for an alternative, possibly a key based mechanism to authenticate web services in lieu of the password. OAuth is gaining a lot of popularity; would it be appropriate, and how would I implement it? Or perhaps there are other methods I should use. The project itself is relatively simple, with just a one or two methods to be exposed, but security is of the utmost importance.

  • How to cascade dependency resolution w/ CDI (WELD)

    - by mP
I would like to have a central weld container that holds all my services and so on. This container would however be wrapped by a second container which contains local settings. THe goal is if a depdendency cannot be found in the outter container then i would like to then search the inner container. How can i achieve this ? I would prefer to do things in a standlike manner, without reverting to use of non standard WELD extensions.

  • Quick Java question about variables

    - by Spencer
I'm declaring a variable: private static final String filename = "filename.txt"; First, does the order of private static final matter? If not, is there a standard excepted sequence or convention? Second, the filename in my application is fixed. Is this the best was to store it's value? Thanks, Spencer
