• Virtual Hosting in RHEL 5

  We have a RHEL 5 Linux server with a few Windows XP clients. We provide web development in PHP. Now my developers as for common local PHP server for keep their projects in same place. Currently the proxy server and Samba sharing are running on the RHEL 5 server. I installed httpd, PHP and MySQL in the server. And I would like to configure virtual hosting too for LAN. What I want do for it? We have 2 Ethernet ports in the server, 1 for local connections and another one for Internet. Internet is provided by an ADSL provider. (192.168.0.0 series for ADSL modem connection and 10.1.1.0 for the LAN connection. If I want to use virtual hosting, do I need to setup local DNS server? My requirements are: setup PHP with MySQL server for local clients with multiple hosting, without disturbing proxy and Samba.

• How to connect to my Local Host?

  I have Mac OSx (mountain Lion), Windows 7, Fedora 17 installed on my Macbook pro, and I can't connect to the local host on any of them, it always tells me can't connect. I'm learning mysql and from the tutorials, I guess I have to be connected to my localhost to create databases and stuff, but do I have to install something first for it to work? P.S. - for mac, I don't have the option "web sharing" to enable in the system preferences. - for windows, I tried to enable IIS, but it gives me an error ... I also tried to work it out using the cmd.exe but it just doesn't work as well. - for fedora, I'm new to it, but I just installed and I have no idea why it's not working.

• Site to site VPN using RRAS from an untrusted network?

  Our remote office will be moving to a new space where internet will be provided. They'll be behind a router doing NAT (I do not have admin rights to this router). They will be sharing a printer with the other people on the LAN, but will need VPN to our network for email and file shares. I was thinking of just having them run the windows VPN client and connecting via PPTP like they do when they are off-site, but I have read that multiple PPTP connections from the same NAT'd address to the same destination doesn't work well or at all. I am thinking some kind of site-to-site VPN is needed so there is just one tunnel. Can I just put in a VPN gateway, set it to connect to our RRAS/PPTP server, and have them use it as their default gateway? Perhaps even use the local default gateway for internet traffic. If so, what VPN gateway/device is recommended for this? Or other solutions? Thanks.

• Samba permissions on a Debian server with Fedora client

  I have a Debian server sharing files via Samba. I can access the files via Windows with no problems whatsoever, but when I try to mount the share on a Fedora client using the same credentials I am unable to write to any files. I have proper read access, but no write permissions. Here are the settings for the share from my smb.conf: [lampp] path = /opt/lampp writable = yes browsable = yes I have to assume that it is an issue on the Fedora side of things because accessing the share from Windows works fine. I have also tried mounting via SSHFS with no luck; it also will allow me to read files but not write. However, in Windows, using a program called WebDrive I am able to access the files (essentially via SSHFS) with no issues whatsoever. I have tried setting up NFS but not much luck there either; I'd rather just stick with Samba if possible. Any suggestions?

• Blade servers for vm?

  We're using VMware on a normal rack mounted server and considering getting another. I see these days I can pick blade enclosures and servers up for relatively low cost and see the term blade and vm mentioned quite a lot. So my question - how would a blade setup work with wmware - is the whole enclosure seen as one big machine and yhr more blades you add the more computing power/resources you get in VMware - or are the just x number of seperate servers? J

  I need to tutor my brother on a particular topic. We live in different geographical areas. We use g-talk to do the same. We do not have web-cam's to enable video chat. The tutoring will involve a lot of off-the-cuff illustrations. I am hence searching for a suitable software which will emulate a blackboard over an internet connection. I need the software to enable sharing of a common canvas on which I can draw, write and point to. Say a Microsoft paint canvas on internet. Could you point out a suitable software? Google is not of being help at the moment as I suspect that I am not specifying my search criteria properly.

• Corporate IM with video that actually works, suggestions?

  Hi. Does anyone here have a suggestion for a cross-platform IM solution wich will work with voip/video on both Windows (XP and 7) and Mac OS X from 10.4 and upwards? Right now were in a kind of mixed enviroment, with some Mac users using iChat server since they need video support (conference across several offices over VPN), but it wont't work on windows clients. The rest of us are happily using Openfire+Spark, but there's no VoIP or video avaible from what i've found, unless you want to add in several 3rd party software (like red5 and asterisk). Requirements: As said before; must work on both Windows and Mac Internal server (no Skype etc) File transfer between platforms SSO (Single Sign-On) via Active Directory authentication Some sort of screen sharing would be a plus, like switching over to a screen capture (powerpoint, software training etc) We can afford to buy software if that's needed to get this working without any hiccups across platforms. • How to tell Windows 7 to ignore a default gateway

  I currently have 2 network cards in my PC -- one connected to an internal network on a router with a disconnected WAN port (10.x.x.x), and one connected to the internet through a consumer router (192.168.0.x). Windows seems to recognize them correctly (my "Network and Sharing Center" lists them as "No Internet" and "Internet" respectively), however when I try browsing the internet it always tries the internal network's default gateway, rather than the one with internet access. Trying to ping a website results in "Reply from 10.0.0.1: Destination net unreachable.". A simple "route delete 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.1" fixes the problems, but they return upon reboot, or upon renewing my IP. Is there any way to tell Windows to ignore one NIC's default gateway, or to at least give them priorities?

IEEE 802.3ad seems to be the go-to concept on this, at least when paired with a technology that gets around the "single switch" limitation for the link aggregation.   I am trying to run an application that uses framebuffer on 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu. All need to do is to install a framebuffer device to get rid of the following error. /dev/fb/0: No such file or directory framebuffer not available. • Is there a VNC server for mac with decent international keyboard support?

  Hi, I'm having trouble finding a VNC server for Mac OS X that allows me to connect from a Windows box with German keyboard layout. I've tried the built-in desktop sharing and several versions of Vine but all of them had problems with several keys. Does maybe anyone know about a working combination of a Mac OS X VNC server and Windows VNC client which properly supports a German keyboard layout on the client? Update: I don't think the Windows client is the problem, because I have no issues connecting to Linux boxes. And I've tried several different clients.

  As a Software Engineer we had a lot of discussion on SE design. Although we sync every document on the development process on Google Doc, mind map just didn’t fit in Google doc yet. The best we can do is to store a copy and share it online. To me, Mind map is an ir-replaceable piece of tools (yet) as agile note taking tools. • unable to access shared drives n win7

  OK, this is doing my head in. Not your usual Win7 sharing problem. Just built a win 7 comp to go onto my home lan and be accessed by all on the network, mostly running XP SP3. Installed it as a single HD+DVD system, got it happy, then added my storage drives, set them up in the right order and letters, rebooted, and shared them. Couldn't access the computer at all from any XP machine. Set the pasword thingy in win7 to NO, and now I can "see" all four shared drives from any machine, but can access only two of them. Please tell me whats going on as I've done nothing different from one drive to the other, just installed and set up drive letters as normal, then shared the damn things. The odd thing about it? the two 1.5T drives that have a lot of data on board are accessable, the two nearly empty 500G ones are not. ANY ideas? Cheers, Colin

  Yes - I have gone through this & this also. But non of them includes the answer I want. I mean my question is bit different. Let me explain. In windows, to right click any where - or to bring up a pop up menu we just type a key right beside on window key / pop-up key or press Shift + F10 to bring up pop up any where. • Xen private networking between multiple hosts

  I have two physical hosts running Xen 3.2, sharing storage via iSCSI. On these two hosts are a number of domUs and I'd like to network them in multiple private networks so they can only contact other domUs on their private network. My understanding of the xen documentation suggests it's possible to do this within one dom0 (ie create virtual networks between domUs), but I've found nothing explaining how this can be implemented across multiple dom0s on different hosts. The only thing that jumps to mind is manually creating iptable rules to route data to the other host, but this seems to lack elegance and could quickly grow cumbersome. Any suggestions? All advice is much appreciated!

• "This computer has dynamically assigned IP addresses" error when installing Active Directory Domain Controller

  This is a working Windows Server 2008 that I should install Active Directory on it. I found http://www.howtogeek.com/99323/ and followed the steps. After Additional Domain Controller Options, I'm asked the question "This computer has dynamically assigned IP addresses". As I see, the message states that Dynamic IP addressing has been used for the server, while this is wrong. When I come to Network And Sharing Center, and click on Local Area Connections - Properties - Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) - Properties, I see that the main IP address (as well as DNS Server) and also all other IP addresses are assigned statically. So it should be OK. I cannot believe any server using dynamic IP(s)! Note: No IPv6 has been set for the server. Please tell me why the error is given and which of the options available, should I choose? Note that it's a production server and is working with many users in WORKGROUP. No change should be affected nor to the IPs, neither to users connecting to the server.

I've noticed my server (lamp set up) being slow at times, but by the time I log in as root and run a PS command, everything may have returned to normal. • Remote Mac OS X server using Windows 7 with VNC

  I've search most of the topic around here in @SuperUser and around most of the webs they can easily access Windows uing Mac OS X but I have a question can I access my Mac using Windows? I've activate my screen sharing on my Mac OS X and I can use another Macbook to access it no problem but once I use TightVNC or UltraVNC and any VNC base program non of them really worked for me. So is there any alternative to VNC to give me option to access my Mac using VNC or something like that? Thanks.

• Apache Serving 403 Forbidden after OS X Snow Leopard Upgrade to Version 10.6.6

  I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.6 and now Apache is misbehaving: requests to http://localhost/ generate a 403 Forbidden response -- FIXED requests to any of my virtual hosts seem to generate a 200 Ok response, but contain zero bytes Some further info that might be useful: I'm using the Apache that comes bundled with OS X. I'm using PHP from http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/php/ (which is in /usr/local/bin) I've had look at the Apache error log and the only error seems to be the following: [notice] child pid 744 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I'm completely stumped by this. Any help would be much appreciated. • Exchange 2003 calendar's "far" future is blank when scheduling

  If a user tries to schedule a meeting in the "far" future, where ""far" future" seems to mean "seven or more weeks into the future", no existing meetings show up, and resources (at least) frequently (if not always) show up with the white-with-black-hatching "No Information" indicator in the meeting creation window, but shows up fine if you look at the actual calendar from the main Outlook window. Is this expected behavior? If so, is there any way to extend how far out Exchange/Outlook will look?

  Does anyone have some comparison data in terms of performance for using in front of Tomcat either Varnish or Apache with mod_jk. I know that AJP connector suppose to be faster than HTTP, but I was thinking that in combination Varnish which is lighter and highly optimized could perform better. There is also the discussion between static resources (which I think will perform faster with Varnish than Apache, even with mod_cache) and dynamic pages.

• Block p2p downloading in my office?

  I work in an education office in a third world country. We pay for internet by the megabyte (no other choice) and have lately been using an incredible amount of bandwidth. This is because the office staff have found out about p2p sharing. As far as I know, Limewire is the only program they're using, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they discover the more general world of bittorrent. Using only a linksys router (that I could flash), is there any way for me prevent the office from destroying our bandwidth cap by downloading personal items (against policy). Even semi-fixes would be better than nothing.
