• MVC Helper Extension issue

  Hi, I need to implement a HtmlHelper extension in my MVC project simply just to output some string but ONLY in the DEBUG mode, not in REALEASE. My first attempt would be: [Conditional("DEBUG")] public static string TestStringForDebugOnly(this HtmlHelper helper, string testString) { return testString; } But obviously that would give a compile error: "The Conditional attribute is not valid because its return type is not void." So my understanding is once you set [Condition] attribute, it doesnt allow to return anything? why? What is other way to implement this kind of function? anyone help would be much appreciated. • how does [<Literal>] differ from other constants in F#

  I am a bit confused by the Literal keyword and why it is necessary in F#. Reading the docs, it sounds to me that [<Literal>] is used to define a constant, however I am a bit confused how this constant differs from all other constants in F#.. Values that are intended to be constants can be marked with the Literal attribute. This attribute has the effect of causing a value to be compiled as a constant. When I think of a constant, I think of something which is immutable.... let x = "a" + "b" //this is a immutable value, its value is constant [<Literal>] let y = "a" + "b" //this is also a immutable value, but why is this a special constant? Is it because the 'normal' F# values are evaluated lazily and the [<Literal>] is not evaluated lazily..? is that what they mean with 'compiled as constant'..? or is there something else to it?

  Here is the PNG file and what it looks like in a QWebView when accessed via http://sstatic.net/so/img/logo.png: When accessed via HTTP: <img src="http://sstatic.net/so/img/logo.png" width='250' height='61' /> When accessed via a resource: <img src="qrc:/images/logo.png" width='250' height='61' /> As you can see, the only modification was the src attribute of the image tag... why the drop in quality? Edit: The file is being shrunk via width: and height: in the style attribute, if that makes a difference. I updated the code.

  I want to make some static constants globally visible. I'm pretty familiar how to do that in C++. The problem is that these constants need to be aligned to some exotic boundary. Do I have to specify the alignment in extern declaration?   Hi, I try to localize error messages from the Domain classes. This is possible with the default error messages, e.g.: default.blank.message=Property [{0}] cannot be blank and localized attribute names, e.g.: customer.address.label=Customer address Where "Customer" is my domain class and address is its attribute. My problem is that I can't localize some attributes because I need specific error messages. E.g: has.to.be.a.number=Property [{0}] has to be a number contingent.size.label=Contingent size. But the message I get is "Property [size] has to be a number" instead of "Property [Contingent size] has to be a number". The messages I cant localize are following: - Property [{0}] has to be a number - Property [{0}] has to be a valid date // I can't use g:datePicker in this context

• Printing contents of a dynamically created iframe from parent window

  I have a page with a list of links and a div which serves as a placeholder for the pages the links lead to. Everytime user clicks on a link an iframe is created in the div and its src attribute gets the value of the link href attribute - simple and clear, sort of external web pages gallery. What i do have a problem with is printing the contents of the iframe. To do this i use this code: function PrintIframe() { frames["name"].focus(); frames["name"].print(); } The issue seems to be that iframe is created dynamically by JQuery - when I insert an iframe right into the html code, the browser prints the external page all right. But with the same code injected by JavaScript nothing happens. I tried to use JQ 1.3 'live' event on "Print" link, no success. Is there a way to overcome this?

  Hi, I have some code where the model contains some classes like (vb.net pseudocode, but could be any OO language): Enum AttributeType Boolean Date String End Enum MustInherit Class Attibute Must Override Function Type As AttributeType End Class Class BooleanAttribute: Attribute Function Type As AttributeType Return AttributeType.Boolean End Function End Class And the view contains some code like: Select Case AttributeType Case Boolean //Display checkbox control Case Date //Display date picker control Case String //Display textbox control End Select I don't really like the code in the view, for the hopefully obvious reasons (what happens when I get a new attribute type etc). My question is, how should I replace it? I could easily add a method to the concrete classes, but that pollutes the model with UI stuff so that's a horrible idea. I could move the select into a factory, but that seems to be just hiding the problem. Can anybody advise a better approach?

• rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

  i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

In the case of threads and networking requests via a service API library, a request could be made with a reference to the original Activity, and then an orientation change could occur, leaving the thread pointing to the old Activity. While this can be fixed, it's tedious and ugly compared to just handling the configuration changes yourself. Why should it be avoided?

  One of client of our web service uses axis2 application that sends HTTP 1.1 query with: Transfer-Encoding: chunked header. Such query is refused by our Apache 2.2 with message: <title>411 Length Required</title> </head><body> <h1>Length Required</h1> <p>A request of the requested method POST requires a valid Content-length.<br /> In Apache logs there is: [Mon May 17 09:06:04 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden: /app/webservices/soap.hdb When I send such message without Transfer-Encoding: chunked and with Content-Length all works ok. I searched how to solve this problem, but I found only how to disable Transfer-Encoding: chunked on client side. Is there any way to do it on server side?

• Microsoft Word 2007 opening all docs with field codes toggled off

  Recently, something changed with my Microsoft Word 2007 installation/preferences on Windows XP, such that whenever I open a word document, all the field codes are displayed raw instead of as their expanded value. For example, my header reads: My Name { TITLE \* MERGEFORMAT } Version { REVNUM \* MERGEFORMAT } But, if I copy and paste it here, it reads expanded: My Name My Doc Title Version 42 I expect to see the copy and paste version directly inside Word, I can work around this by right clicking on each such field and choosing toggle field codes, however, I never had to do that before, as previously, the document opened with all such field codes expanded. Another example is the Table of Contents which shows as: { TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u } Instead of the full table of contents. I searched the word options dialog, but could not find anything that appeared relevant. Please suggest how to restore the old behavior.

• Automating video generation by adding an intro and a trailing video to the main video

  I have a video project I am trying to compile. Here is the overview: I have many videos which are 5 minute training sessions - Main video. The Intro Video will be a standard 5 second video that will have the Video title and Author. This will be concatenated to the main video. The Trailing Video will pretty much be a stock video that will be concatenated to the main video and have all the legaleze etc. The Intro Vid will smoothly fade into the main vid as well as when you get to end of the main video it will fade into the Trailing video nicely. The product is a new video with a Intro, Main & Trailer video all in one! The concept is really that simple. In fact I found an example of a person who has solved this and is doing exactly what I want. This solution is a Bash script that takes a config file that has the title, author, etc. and generates the Intro, the Ending and creates the resulting video with them concatenated. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Server. I have been trying to take this as a sample and just running it with no luck because of incompatibility errors. I even attempted to convert it using .MP4 containers or .MKV. I am running into error after error or incompatibility issues. I went as far as changing out the ffmpeg binary using the 25 Oct 2013 version from http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/static/64bit/ which I like as I don't have to worry about rebuilding the binary. Almost successful but again I have some error which I cannot solve. I know part of the problem is the fact that video production, codecs, formats is a completely new field for me so I am attempting to work through this new territory. Perhaps an expert here has something similar that I can use as a guideline that uses MP4 or h.264 format. Or take the solution above from the URL and make it work with a more up-to-date version of ffmpeg. I will include the script and its parameter file and the output (abbreviated because of limitation) below. Basically as the script stands right now, when run I get the error [matroska,webm @ 0x27bbee0] Read error. This error is return from the 'reasembleVideo' routine from the first ffmpeg command. The following is the Parameter File: #!/bin/bash INPUTFILE="ssh_main.mp4" LOGO="logo.png" LOGOLENGTH="1" SPEAKER="Jason" TITLE="Basic SSH Video" DATE="October 28, 2013" SCENESTART="00:00:01" SCENEDURATION="00:00:09" OUTPUTFILE="ssh_basic_1" } The following is the script I am running. • How do I make Chrome's Omnibar behave more like the Firefox Awesome bar?

  One of my favorite features of the Firefox awesome bar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed. Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title. Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have turned unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement. Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?

• Converting text file to epub?

  I have a bunch of book length text files I'd really like to read on my EPUB reader (as it happens FBReaderJ). What would be the best route to convert them? I have access to OSX and Linux (Ubuntu). Probably happiest with a command line, but would setting for a GUI for batch conversion. My criteria for success are really based upon the shortfalls I have found with Calibre must do the whole book at least a guess of what the title/author may be. Minimum the source filename for the title. hygienic with files it uses - tidies up after itself (this is less important) doesn't try to be an all-in-one library manager (again, less important). is lenient in parsing special characters (e.g. < and & characters).

• Command line tool for listing ID3 tags under Linux

  I want to write a script that manipulates ID3 tags of mp3 files. I need a tool that reads the tags and outputs it in a format in a machine-readable format. For example, if I want it to output only the title, then it outputs the title, nothing else. I tried different tools like id3 or eyeD3, but they can only be used to write tags or to output them in a human-readable format. Of course I could just filter that output through sed, but it seems unnecessarily complicated to me.
