Is there a utility method to do this? e.g. for 1,2,3,4,5 post randomization it might be either [1,5,4,2,3 or 2,1,3,5,4 or 3,1,2,4,5 or ...] I would like to know if there is a java utility method / class which already provides this capability?

  I was trying out an experiment with Python, trying to find out how many times it could add one to an integer in one minute's time. Assuming two computers are the same except for the speed of the CPUs, this should give an estimate of how fast some CPU operations may take for the computer in question. The code below is an example of a test designed to fulfill the requirements given above. This version is about 20% faster than the first attempt and 150% faster than the third attempt. Can anyone make any suggestions as to how to get the most additions in a minute's time span? Higher numbers are desireable. • Is incrementing in a loop exponential time?

  I've a simple but confusing doubt about whether the program below runs in exponential time. The question is : given a +ve integer as input, print it out. The catch is that you deliberately do this in a loop, like this: int input,output=0; cininput; while(input--) ++output; // Takes time proportional to the value of input cout<< output; I'm claiming that this problem runs in exponential time. Because, the moment you increase the # of bits in input by 1, the program takes double the amount of time to execute. Put another way, to print out log2(input) bits, it takes O(input) time. Is this reasoning right?

  I can't solve it: You are given 8 integers: A, B, C representing a line on a plane with equation A*x + B*y = C a, b, c representing another line x, y representing a point on a plane The two lines are not parallel therefore divide plane into 4 pieces. Point (x, y) lies inside of one these pieces. Problem: Write a fast algorithm that will find a point with integer coordinates in the same piece as (x,y) that is closest to the cross point of the two given lines. Note: This is not a homework, this is old Euler-type task that I have absolutely no idea how to approach.

There is no fixed number of these emails and later i have to have possibility to extend this list. //construktor prototype Email::Email(vector<string> bcc) So i want to use type vector or list for that and function push_back(). How can i make a new instance with bcc emails? I need actually declaration with definition for my list. • Plotting Points in Java with Interaction

  I have a large number of data points which are two dimensional coordinates with non-integer values (floats). I am looking for a Java library that can help me plot these points, allowing for custom point size, color, and labels. Further, I would like the user to be able to interact with the points with panning and zooming, and I want to be able to capture KeyEvents from the user. Processing looks great for what I want, but I don't want to do everything from scratch. Is there a better solution? Thanks in advance.

  I'm trying to calcuate size of each cell (containing text like "ff" or "a0"), so that 32 cells will fit into window by width. However, charWidth*2 doesn' represent the width of a cell, since it doesn't take spacing between characters in the account. How can I obtain size of a font so that 32 cells each is two chars like "ff" fit exactly into window's client area ? Curier is fixed-width font. • unable to return 'true' value in C function

  If Im trying to check an input 5 byte array (p) against a 5 byte array stored in flash (data), using the following function (e2CheckPINoverride), to simply return either a true or false value. But it seems, no matter what I try, it only returns as 'false'.   I had a list of tuples where every tuple consists of two integers and I wanted to sort by the 2nd integer. After looking in the python help I got this: sorted(myList, key=lambda x: x[1]) which is great. My question is, is there an equally succinct way of doing this in C# (the language I have to work in)? I know the obvious answer involving creating classes and specifying an anonymous delegate for the whole compare step but perhaps there is a linq oriented way as well. Once this has been added to the array, I want to look up the value of the array for the previous WeekNum and add it to a value ProdTarg. There's a solution for how to acheive that if the integer represents a count/average/etc of some DB field, which is not the case for me. • excel number format - varying decimal digits

  I'm trying to set a special cell number format with theses rules: display percentage display at max 3 digits (decimal + integer part) So I can display 100% or 99.3% or 1.27% but not 100.9% or 100.27% or 99.27%. Of course, I can have negative number (-27.3%) and it does not affect my rules. I've try with the cell formating option without success: [<1]0.00%;[<10]0.0%;0% Because it seemed that excel (2010) does not support more than 2 conditions in cell formating (and so I can't expand it to manage negative number...) It there anyway to do what I want? Thanks

• MS SQL Server 2000 tables

  We currently have an MS SQL Server 2000 database with one table containing data for multiple users. The data is keyed by memberid which is an integer field. The table has a clustered index on memberid. The table is now about 200 million rows. Indexing and maintenance are becoming issues. We are debating splitting the table into one table per user model. This would imply that we would end up with a very large number of tables potentially upto the 2,147,483,647, considering just positive values. My questions: 1) Does anyone have any experience with a MS SQL Server (2000/2005) installation with millions of tables? 2) What are the implications of this architecture with regards to maintenance and access using Query Analyzer, Enterprise Manager etc. 3) What are the implications to having such a large number of indexes in a database instance. • Can someone confirm how Microsoft Excel 2007 internally represents numbers?

  I know the IEEE 754 floating point standard by heart as I had to learn it for an exam. I know exactly how floating point numbers are used and the problems that they can have. I can manually do any operation on the binary representation of floating point numbers. However, I have not found a single source which unambiguously states that excel uses 64 bit floating point numbers to internally represent every single cell "type" in excel except for text. I have no idea whether some of the types use signed or unsigned integers and some use 64 bit floating point. I have found literally trillions of articles which 1) describe floating point numbers and then 2) talk about being careful with excel because of floating point numbers. I have not found a single statement saying "all types are 64 bit floating point numbers except text". I have not found a single statement which says "changing the type of a cell only changes its visual representation and not its internal representation, unless you change the type from text to some other type which is not text or you change some other type which is not text to text". This is literally all I want to know, and it's so simple and axiomatic that I am amazed that I can find trillions of articles and pages which talk around these statements but do not state them directly.

  unichar myChar = [myString characterAtIndex:0]; [myNSMutableArray addObject:myChar]; I am trying to insert the first char of a string into an array, to create an array of chars. the first line does not give me an error. The second line however, provides the following error: warning: passing argument 1 of 'addObject:' makes pointer from integer without a cast This also crashes the application with a "bad address" error. I thought this error was due to a problem with memory allocation. Can someone shed some light on this.

However, in 2.8.0 RC1, I get an error message: <console>:6: error: value y is not a member of object X X.y = 1 ^ Interestingly, just trying to call the method without parentheses fails as well: scala> X.y_= 1 <console>:1: error: ';' expected but integer literal found. X.y_= 1 ^ Am I misremembering something which does actually exist or did I just invent it out of whole cloth?
