• How do I configure VMware View location-based printing to use Active Directory Groups?

  I am attempting to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing, which leverages an included OEM version of ThinPrint, to assign printers to active directory groups. The location-based printing feature maps printers that are physically near client systems to VMware View desktops. I am using the Active Directory group policy setting AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View, which is located in the Microsoft Group Policy Object Editor in the Software Settings folder under Computer Configuration. The AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View appearst to be just a name translation table. It permits me to assign a specific printer or printers to an IP Range, Client Name, Mac Address, User, or User Group. I'm attempting to assign printers to active directory user groups. I have created a new active directory group for each printer that I intend to use in VMware View desktop pools. I will then assign active directory users to the active directory groups that represent each network printer. Example: doej is a member of the PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group. Using AutoConnect, I assigned the group to receive a network printer by adding PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 in the User/Group column. Problem: When doej logs in to his VDI session, the printer is not present. However, if I use a wildcard "*" in the User/Group column instead of the specific PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group, the printer is present and functions as designed. Alternatives: I have tried assigning printers to active directory groups within AutoConnect in the following ways, all unsuccesfull: PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample.local\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 Confirmation: The information used to map the printer to the VMware View desktop is stored in a registry entry on the View desktop in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\thinprint\tpautoconnect. For each of these examples, I have reviewed the registry entry and can confirm that the desktop is receiving the information from the AutoConnect translation table. Summary: Can anyone provide an example of how to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing so that I may assign network printers to active directory groups via the included AutoConnect tool? I would welcome a clear example of a working configuration. Thank you.

• Extract Distinct restful MVC routes from IIS logs

  This is a cross post from StackOverflow that after some consideration I believe can be asked here (not getting anything on SO). My shop is using MVC3/FUBU on IIS 7. I recently put something into production and I wanted to gather metrics from the IIS logs using log parser. I've done this many times before with file endpoints but because the MVC3 routes are of the form /api/person/{personid}/address/{addressid} the log saves /api/person/123/address/456 in the uristem column. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get data about specific routes from IIS logs? As an exmaple: Log Like this: cs-uri-stem /api/person/123/address/456 /api/person/121/address/33 /api/person/3555 /api/person/1555/address/5555 I want information about all where the route used was /api/person/{personid} so the count would be 1 in this case. Ideally what I'd like to figure out is how to do is is have IIS log the regex for the route that is choose for a particular url. So in the IIS logs have /api/person/{personid}/address/{addressid} in a column in addition to the cs-uristem /api/person/1555/address/5555

• Random keyboard malfunction - happens in Vista and XP

  For some weird reason, some of my keyboard keys of my deskop are acting very strangely. I don't remember a certain time when it started and I can't recognize any pattern as to when it happens and when it doesn't. The problem occurs in Windows XP, XP Safe Mode, Vista, and Vista Safe mode (I have a dual boot system) Here's what's happening: When I push the I, K, comma, or 8 keys (notice how they are all in the same column), instead of just getting that character, I get extra characters afterwards. For example, I'll push the k key and it will print "ksfda", pushing "I" gives me "IWREQ", comma gives me ", xvcz", pushing 8 gives me "82431". There are a couple things that I have noticed: It does not happen every time I push the key It happens in all OS and applications I have tested The characters coming after the desired ones are in the same pattern (column order: 2, 4, 3, 1 from the left of the keyboard in the same row as the key pressed. Pressing "]" will sometimes give me "]t", and if done in Notepad, will bring up the "Find" dialog window I cannot seem to remember a specific time the problem started, although I have been defragging, using TuneUp Utilities + CCleaner, and installing lots of new programs lately.

In other word, have a look at the following pic: 1 -> 222 -> 3 111 -> 2 -> 333 11 -> 22 -> 33 11 -> 2222 -> 3333 Suppose that - is indicated one TAB. As you see, each column is justified from left. I need to fill each TAB with Spaces, so that the justification not be confused. If I use 'Find & Replace' option to change each TABs to a specific number of Spaces, justification will be confused because each column have its own character number. In other word, if I change each TAB with 6 Spaces, the above will be changed to the follow: 1 222 3 111 2 333 11 22 33 11 2222 3333 My need is as follow (each dot indicate a Space): 1......222......3 111....2........333 11.....22.......33 11.....2222.....3333

• Xen domU mem-set issue

  I'm running into a problem on my xen 4.0.1 server (debian squeeze) My host has 32G of memory, Domain-0 has 2048 M assigned to it. (scaled down with xm mem-set Domain-0 2048) top in Domain-0 confirms this. I created a virtual machine config file (using xen-tools) with the following options: memory = '512' maxmem = '2048' Both host and guest machines are running the standard 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 debian kernel. 'xm create' creates a virtual machine with 512MB of memory as expected. Then 'xm mem-set domU 1024' will not expand the memory to 1024MB running 'xm mem-set domU 400' does set the memory to about 400MB Then 'xm mem-set domU 1024' will expands the memory back to 512MB Based on this, you would say that xm ignores the maxmem and silently sets maxmem to 512, but in the output of xm top the MAXMEM column reads 2G. the MEM column will not go over 512M. The output of xm list tells another story, it shows 1024 when I 'xm mem-set domU 1024'. I've googled myself all away around the internet for this issue and found that most people don't scale back Domain-0. I know I've seen a bugreport about the issue I'm experiencing, but can't find it anymore. Does anyone see what I'm doing wrong here? Hmm.. I just upgraded my kernel to the one provided by debian backports. The issue has gone.

• Clicking far away in vim in tmux in urxvt

  I use vim inside tmux inside urxvt, and the mouse works perfectly well for clicking and selecting text, except when I want to click too far to the right. It seems to be related to the distance in number of columns from the left. When I go beyond column ~200 (not sure about the exact number), clicking simply does nothing. Note that it's not related to a vim window: with two vim windows taking ~150 columns each, clicking will not work after the ~50th column in the second window. It's related to the whole vim session. Also note that clicking far away in a big tmux pane (200 columns) works perfectly. In my .tmux.conf I have this line: set -g default-terminal "screen-256color" and in my .vimrc I have this: if &term =~ "^screen" autocmd VimEnter * silent !echo -ne "\033Ptmux;\033\033]12;7\007\033\\" let &t_SI = "\<Esc>Ptmux;\<Esc>\<Esc>]12;5\x7\<Esc>\\" let &t_EI = "\<Esc>Ptmux;\<Esc>\<Esc>]12;7\x7\<Esc>\\" autocmd VimLeave * silent !echo -ne "\033Ptmux;\033\033]12;14\007\033\\" end It changes the cursor's color depending on the editing mode of vim, and it works, meaning that tmux really sets $TERM to "screen-256color" — but I don't know if this has any relevance with my mouse problem. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, vim 7.3, tmux 1.6 and rxvt-unicode 9.14. Does anybody have an idea about what is causing this problem? Thanks.

• In which order does Excel process its formulae?

  I've got a fairly large spreadsheet with major calculations going on, and it's starting to slow down every time a value that's part of a calculated field is modified. I'm in the process of optimizing the file, adding arrays where I can, and seeing where I can shave off a few milliseconds here and there. Let's say there's data in Columns A-H. Column H is set based on relationships between values in Columns A, B and C, which change dynamically from an outside program. Users enter the data in Column F. Formulas in D & E calculate relationships between F & H and H & D, respectively. How does Excel manage formulae in the case, for instance, where they're dependent on data further into the sheet? Will my value in H be available the first time that the formulae in D & E calculate? or, will D & E calculate based on an old value for H, because H's update hasn't happened yet? Are there any efficiencies to be gained by positioning dependencies in particular rows or columns in the speadsheet? Do positions above and left the current position get processed sooner than things below and to the right?

• How to calculate unweighted averages in Excel PivotTable?

  I often make PivotTables in which each row contains a number of per-person average measures. I then want to look at the unweighted column average for each measure, and usually make some kind of chart from these. Because my individual cells are often averaged from different numbers of data points, the Grand Total row ends up being a weighted average, which I’m not interested in. So I usually make my own average row a few rows above the table to use for my charts. That’s not too much work, but there’s another problem. I often add a few more people’s worth of data to the PivotTables’ source, then refresh the tables. This means my average row needs to be updated to encompass more rows from the PivotTable. Not a huge deal with one table, but when I have lots of them across lots of sheets, I have to do find/replace on a whole bunch of formulas. So: is there a way to automatically get unweighted column averages in a PivotTable, such that when the table is refreshed, the averages don’t change locations and encompass the newly added (or removed) data Thanks

• Linux CentOS strange memory readings

  I am actually a young junior sys admin. I have a question - i am trying to understand how linux deals with memory... while playing around different monitoring programs I found some strange thing. When I run top on my laptop it shows me that FIREFOX process with pid 8778 takes 18,3% of memory (%MEM column). grep "MemTotal" /proc/meminfo Above command give me 1848336kb/1024 = 1805megs of memory (its ok - i have 2 gigs of ram). So if the firefox process takes 18,3% of MEM(according to tops %MEM column) then it takes 0.183 * 1805 which is approximately 325mb of memory. Quite a lot as for firefox... But well, in Linux there are lots of shared libraries that programs commonly uses (like famous libc). And those libraries are added to memory utilization of every process that uses it in the system, despite they are actually reading same file(single object in memory). So top may show too big mem utilization because of those shared libraries. Well, it is time to use PMAP which should show us the real mem utilization of process. But.. pmap -d $(pidof firefox) mapped: 983460K writeable/private: 757164K shared: 66416K so pmap shows that 983460/1024=993MB of memory is mapped to this process. It is in fact much bigger than mem utilization showed by top. Whats wrong here? How pmap can show more than top? even when top adds also the shared libraries (which in fact are single objects in memory) for each process that uses it? and pmap omits it? Regards Krzysztof

• Access to CD/DVD Drive is Denied through Windows 7 Explorer (Permission Problem)

  A while ago I started having trouble with my optical drives. Both of them keep showing up in Explorer as CD/DVD drives on boot, but as soon as I put a disc in either one, it suddenly turns into a hard-drive—“local disk” is displayed in the Type column, though the File System column remains UDF/CDFS. (I though that maybe it was a permission issue on the registry key in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet..., but I’m not so certain because of the next test.) When I try to open a disc (of any type), I get an access denied error message. If I open an elevated command-prompt, I am able to access the files. Also, if I kill Explorer and run it from an elevated command-prompt (thus giving Explorer elevated permissions), then I can access the files from Explorer. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the devices without success. The security dialog indicates that there are none set for the drives (no owner and no permissions). I tried setting the owner, but am only able to do so if there is a disc in it (it complains if it is empty), but the settings do not stick (if I immediately open the security dialog after setting it, it is empty again). I tried setting permissions, but that gives an error. I’ve included a screencap-flowchart of the security dialog of one of the drives below. (Yes, I made sure that there are no upper- or lower-filters, and yes, I ran sfc. I also made sure that in the policy editor, “devices: restrict CD-ROM...” is not set.) Does anyone know what the owner and permissions are supposed to be for optical drives and how to reset them?

• Import data in Excel that doesn't have a row delimiter, but number of columns is known

  So i have this text file that looks something like this: Header1 Header2 Header3 Header4 A1 B1 C1 D1 A2 B2 C2 D2 and so on. When imported, I'd want the data to format itself in 4 columns. I tried the Get External Data from Text, and it successfully imports it, but it doesn't wrap it around, so it just keeps making columns for every space. I'd want it to go on the next line after 4 (in this case) elements have been added. What's the simplest way to achieve this? EDIT: My answer follows, since I'm not yet allowed to answer my own questions yet. The Excel function I needed is called indirect(). Not sure how it actually works though, so hopefully someone can help out with that, but the function call that worked for me is =INDIRECT(ADDRESS((ROW(A1)-1)*4+COLUMN(A1),1)) which i found over here: http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101584&p=456031#post456031 Note: this required me to add the text to excel where i'd get this row full of columns, and then flip it so that i'd have a column full of rows.

• How can I check cells for number series?

  I have a bit of a problem evaluating an excel cell. Example: M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 2;5;7 1;9 3;5;7;9 I have a number of excel cells which contain numbers (months). In the first column I have a series of numbers. I want to use conditional formatting to color the corresponding cells in the right columns. If correctly colored I would get something like this: M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 2;5;7 X X X 1;9 X X 3;5;7;9 X X X X The formula I have now is this: IF(ISNUMBER(FIND(L$22;$K23));$H23;"") but the problem is that cells are colored too which contain part of a number. If I enter 10;15 as input I get this: M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 10;15 X X X X because 1 and 5 are found too. I only want column 10 and 15 to be marked. How can I change the formula or the input?

  I am new to this flavor of StackExchange, so if this belongs elsewhere, please move it; I figured this would be the best place, though. I am making an Excel Worksheet that simply stores basic financial data in 5 columns (Check Number, Date of Transaction, Description, Profit from Transaction, and Balance After Transaction) and indefinite rows. Each worksheet represents one month, and each Workbook represents a year. As I make or receive a payment, I store it as a new row, which, inherently, makes the number of rows per month indefinite. Each transaction's Balance cell is the sum of the Balance cell of the row above it and the Profit cell of its row. I want each month to start off with a special row (first one after column headers) that displays a summary of the last month's transactions. For instance, the Balance After Transaction cell would display the last row's balance, and the Profit from Transaction cell would display the overall profits of the month) I know that if I knew every month had exactly 100 expenses, I could achieve this for March with the following formulas for profit and balance, respectively: =February!E2 - February!E102 =February!E102 However, I do NOT know how many rows will be in each month's table, and I'd like to automate this as much as possible (for instance, if I find a missed or duplicated expense in January, I don't want to have to update all the formulas that point to the ending January balance). How can I have Excel automatically use the last entered value in a column, in any given Excel spreadsheet, in a formula?

• Conditional formatting Excel 2007/2010: Highlight the first cell in the row that contains duplicate values?

  I have a table with hundreds of columns and rows of data; each row and column have a header. For instance, column headers are ITEM, FILE1, FILE2, FILE3, etc. and row headers are AA, BB, CC, DD, and so on. Under conditional formatting, I used "Highlight Cells Rules" "Equal to", in order to highlight cells that have values equal to the value in another cell. In this case, my formula rule is: Rule: Cell Value = $A$1 Applies to: =$B$3:$G$8 When I input "X" into cell A1, Excel will highlight all of the cells that have a value equal to "X", in this case, the following cells are highlighted: B3, C5, G6, and E8. Here's my problem. The data that I am working with contains more than 100 columns and rows. I want to identify all of the ITEMS (AA, BB, CC, etc.) that contain the duplicate file "X". In order to do this I have to scroll right to left, and up and down. Here's my question. Is there a way to use conditional formatting to add an additional rule? I want to keep the current rule, but I also want the row header to be highlighted if any of the cells in that row contain a value equal to "x". In this case, I want AA, CC, DD, and FF to also be highlighted. Is this possible? I've spent days trying to figure this out - and no luck. • Compare cells in two different spreadsheets and extract data from one an place it in the other if match found

  I need to find a way to compare two spreadsheets and if there is a match on specific cells, pull data from one sheet to another. Say the two spreadsheets contain a value that identifies a piece of equipment: spreadsheet 1 spreadsheet 2 Server Server Serial # 123abc 123abc 123-xx-456 There are of course many, many records/rows in each sheet. I need to look at the first cell in the server column of sheet 1 and then search a range of cells in the sever column of sheet 2 for a match. If there is a match, I need to pull the serial # value from the cell in the matching row an put it into the serial # cell of the matching row in sheet 1 (all of the "serial #" cells in sheet 1 are presently empty.) If that description explaination is too convoluted I can explain by answering any questions you may have. My deadline for this task is Noon tomorrow, 30 Aug 2012. Yes, I got the task today at noon.... I am not an Excel user and just get thrust into it on occassion... Any help would be a huge assist.

  Hi, I am using a DataGrid (from Microsoft.Windows.Controls.DataGrid) to display items on and on this DataGrid I use a custom Column which extends DataGridBoundColumn. I have bound an ObservableCollection to the ItemSource of the DataGrid. Conversation is one of my own custom datatypes which a (among other things) has a boolean called active. I bound this boolean to the DataGrid as follows: DataGridActiveImageColumn test = new DataGridActiveImageColumn(); test.Header = "Active"; Binding binding1 = new Binding("Active"); test.Binding = binding1; ConversationsDataGrid.Columns.Add(test); My custom DataGridBoundColumn DataGridActiveImageColumn overrides the GenerateElement method to let it return an Image depending on whether the conversation it is called for is active or not. However: When there are more entries on the DataGrid then fit at any one time (and vertical scrollbars are added) the behavior with respect to the column for all the conversations is strange. The conversations that are initially loaded are correct, but when I use the scrollbar of the DataGrid conversations that enter the view seems to have a random status (although more inactive than active ones, which corresponds to the actual ratio). When I scroll back up, the active images of the Conversations initially shown (before scrolling) are not correct anymore as well. When I replace my custom DataGridBoundColumn class with (for instance) DataGridCheckBoxColumn it works as intended so my extension of the DataGridBoundColumn class must be incomplete. Personally I think it has something to do with the following: From the MSDN page on the GenerateElement method (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.datagridcolumn.generateelement%28VS.95%29.aspx): Return Value Type: System.Windows. FrameworkElement A new, read-only element that is bound to the column's Binding property value. I do return a new element (the image) but it is not bound to anything. • Propel Single Table Inheritance Issue

  I have a table called "talk", which is defined as abstract in my schema.xml file. It generates 4 objects (1 per classkey): Comment, Rating, Review, Checkin It also generates TalkPeer, but I couldn't get it to generate the other 4 peers (CommentPeer, RatingPeer, ReviewPeer, CheckinPeer), so I created them by hand, and made them inherit from TalkPeer.php, which inherits from BaseTalkPeer. I then implemented getOMClass() in each of those peers. The problem is that when I do queries using the 4 peers, they return all 4 types of objects. That is, ReviewPeer will return Visits, Ratings, Comments, AND Reviews. Example: $c = new Criteria(); $c->add(RatingPeer::VALUE, 5, Criteria::GREATER_THAN); $positive_ratings = RatingPeer::doSelect($c); This returns all comments, ratings, reviews, & checkins that have a value 5. ReviewPeer should only return Review objects, and can't figure out how to do this. Do I actually have to go through and change all my criteria to manually specify the classkey? That seems a little pointless, since the Peer name already distinct. I don't want to have to customize each Peer. I should be able to customize JUST the TalkPeer, since they all inherit from it... I just can't figure out how. I tried changing doSelectStmt just in TalkPeer so that it automatically adds the CLASSKEY restriction to the Criteria. It almost works, but I get a: Fatal error: Cannot instantiate abstract class Talk in /models/om/BaseTalkPeer.php on line 503. Line 503 is in BaseTalkPeer::populateObjects(), and is the 3rd line below: $cls = TalkPeer::getOMClass($row, 0); $cls = substr('.'.$cls, strrpos('.'.$cls, '.') + 1); $obj = new $cls(); The docs talked about overriding BaseTalkPeer::populateObject(). I have a feeling that's my problem, but even after reading the source code, I still couldn't figure out how to get it to work.
