• Reverse DNS for two ADs in the same subnet

  I currently have two separate AD forests that exist within the same subnet. The two forests have independent copies of the reverse lookup zone for that subnet. Example: Domain A DC1: 10.1.1.1/24 Domain A DC2: 10.1.1.2/24 Domain A AppServer1:10.1.1.3/24 Domain B DC1: 10.1.1.11/24 Domain B DC2: 10.1.1.12/24 Domain B Appserver1:10.1.1.13/24 What I'm after, is a configuration that allows this reverse zone to be shared between them so that both sets of DNS servers can make updates to the zone. This kind of thing is a little far from my everday work, so a kick in the right direction is a welcome suggestion as well. Decoupling one AD into new segments is a possibility I'm open to but would like to avoid if possible. If there is a DNS related solution I'd prefer that.

  I'm wondering if DDOS attacks to PBX or telecommunications systems is possibe real. There are DDOs attacks to web servers, which mostly give them so much concurrent loads or connections that service get unavailable. Many government or non-profit organizations that suffered this kind of attacks, eventually could choose to shutdown their web server and that's it, waiting for these attacks to end. For a DDOs attacks to PBX, I imagine that it would result in telephones getting busy or ringing all the time unstoppably. This kind of attack could really damage any kind organization. Is it possible to do that or are we just in the beginnings?

• Accessing WindowsXP shared printer from macbook?

  My new printer is setup on WindowsXP, it works and it is configured as a shared printer. I then setup a printer from Mac OSX 10.6.3 using the approved driver from the setup CD. I browsed for the printer via the network. When I send a test page, it queues, but never prints. Its as if the driver thinks the printer is local to the mac and just never finishes printing. THe configuration shows as: smb://dragoneye/CanonMP2 Where dragoneye is the name of the Windows XP server and the CanonMP2 is the little multi-purpose printer. My other Windows' CPU can setup and print. Is this a known problem or am I missing a setting??

• How can I configure Adobe Help so it doesn't chatter so much with Adobe's domain?

  Adobe Help that came with Creative Suite 5 and/or Flash Builder Pro is constantly creating network traffic with an Adobe site, www.wip4.adobe.com In the Adobe Help application Preferences, I find that I can change the settings so that I must manually download updates, but apparently the application still likes to call home and chatter non-stop with www.wip4.adobe.com. I could use something like Little Snitch to block all this spyware-like behavior, but I'd really prefer to just change the application's behavior. Is there a hidden setting or configuration file to adjust this behavior to something more appropriate and polite?

I have photos under original folder on many different folder like this folder + folder1 + original + folder2 + original + folder3 + original + folder4 + original Using mogrify I'm trying to create thumbs under a thumb folder following a structure to this. folder + folder1 + original + thumb + folder2 + original + thumb + folder3 + original + thumb + folder4 + original + thumb I'm a little lost in how to write the shell script that may iterate through it. I'm ok giving mogrify its settings but I don't complete understand how to tell the script to go iterate each folder to run the mogrify command.

• Can remote LogMeIn Hamachi users access our local LAN?

  Unknown to me, one of the kids has installed LogMeIn Hamachi on his PC so that he can access and play on his pal's Minecraft server, and vice versa. One of the things I did was disable the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the Hamachi NIC in Windows 7's Network Connections. However, my lack of fu when it comes to these types of services is leaving me feeling a little uncomfortable about him using this. Is there anything I should be worried about here? For example, can his friends access our local LAN (which has a number of NAS boxes with unsecured shares) and get up to no good?

• Blue screen MEMORY_MANAGEMENT on Windows 7 Enterprise

  I'm running a machine (MSI GT 70) with 32 GB ram as a mobile server. It seems that at random points in time it will BSOD with as message MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. So the first thing I did was do several memtests, but they did not give away any defective modules. I'm a bit clueless at the moment as it just seems to happen at random points in time giving me little or no indication of what might be wrong. I opened up the dumps with BSODviewer, they just seem to point to the windows kernel. I tried reinstalling Windows but the behavior remains the same.

• Sharing internet connection with WDS

  Is it possible to share an internet connection through WDS? I'm on the very edge of a wireless network, the spot that I'm in maintains a stable 22% according to XP with the help of a parabolic reflector crafted from a cheap pie tin. I was thinking I could grab another wireless router, use WDS to bridge the this router with the other one and share the 'net connection through it thus giving me a little bit more freedom but when I tried it it didn't work. WDS looks like it bridged the networks just fine, but I couldn't access anything on the internet. Do I need to do anything special or is this just not possible?

• Any Suggestions on How to Soup Up/ Mod a MacBook Pro 13"?

  So I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13". Integrated GPU so not a games machine but fast enough for doing .Net development in VMs. I love the little thing and wanted to give it a Christmas present so thought I'd mod it up a bit and give it a boost. I'm probably going to go for a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive rather than full-on SSD (I need 500GB space) but was wondering if there are any other mods/tweaks people could suggest? I saw something online about swapping a HDD for the DVD drive and wondered if anyone had tried this or similarly drastic mods to the smallest of the MBPs. Cheers.

• print job doesn't go to print queue

  I have two printers hooked up to my intel imac. I am having a printing error. It seems that whenever i try to print (a simple text doc) I am unable to get the print job to go to print queue with one of my printers. I have a HP c7280 and a HP c3100. I am able to get one working properly, but the other doesn't seem to allow it to go to the print queue. I have switched usb cables (with the printer that I know works) and both printers are recognized by the computer in the printer preferences pane. I've tried reseting the printer system in the printer setup utility.. reloaded the drivers from HP.. etc. If anyone has a suggestion or could point me to a little help i'd be VERY grateful Best Regards.. • Local dedicated hosting space (own hardware)

  Where can I find local dedicated hosting space for my own hardware? I know I can rent dedicated hosting from various companies online, but usually I think that means I'm renting their hardware too. I just need a space with a network connection and a power outlet. That's it. How much would this cost? What would I search for? Is it available easily? Or would it only be the sort of thing huge companies would do? I'm in the greater NYC area. It's for a project I'm working on, but the thing's loud and annoying. I'd be willing to pay a little to get it out of sight and out of mind. I don't even care too much about the quality of the network connection. I'd rather not rent other people's hardware cause it probably would cost a fortune to rent a machine like this (tons of ram).

  Hello, I'm planing to build a little linux homeserver. It will mainly be used for storage and maybe as an media pc. I plan to build a software raid5 with 4 1.5TB or 2TB hard drives. I already decided to use the Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5 TB drive, but then I read about some problems with the WD green series about many drives failing and that they are not recommended for raid anyway. Of course, I couldn't find much facts on the issues so I thought I just ask here ;-) What hard drives would you recommended for a software raid5 setup? As I only need it for storage, the whole thing doesn't have to be too fast. So I prefer a cheap price and silence to great performance.

• Bound external Cisco CIGESM ports to a specific BladeServer

  We have an IBM BladeCenter with 14 blade servers and one external Cisco CIGESM for Ethernet connectivity. Since this hardware is a little old, we will use it for other services, and we want to run a pfSense instance on one of the blades. It's just an Firewall Appliance, but it needs two network interfaces: one for the WAN and the other one for LAN access. Our architecture works on top of static routes, we don't use NAT, so we got the WAN IP in one interface routing to the another one. The main problem is how to plug the WAN cable in one of the four external ports and make it exclusive to the blade server containing the firewall. And we also need an exit port that goes through a 3COM 4200G switch that makes the internal routing and VLAN separation. Thanks in advance

  What is the best, most foolproof way of getting nice font rendering in Linux? Currently, I am experiencing thin, ugly fonts (shown below). I have wasted too much time tweaking fonts.conf, and I have yet to find a decent combination. I am running Debian 6.0 with no desktop environment (just Openbox for a window manager) in a VM on a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.7.4).   hello the point is, if i'm logged in (and as almost every windows user, i've got an admin-account), and someone comes across my not locked pc, it is possible to change my password the pro-way through using: net user Admin %NEW_PASSWD% what can i do to prevent that, besides not being logged in as admin. i once saw a way, where the 'net user' command was substituted by a .bat file. so if you call 'net user Admin ...', it runs this .bat-file instead, which locks the notebook immediately. problem is, i honestly don't know how i could let windows substitute eg net.exe with a .bat-file. (too little windows knowledge) do you know any way how to do it? i'd appreciate it.

• Windows7 - Mouse not working, all windows + tray act like inactive

  I have this problem for two days now. First when it happened, logging out and back in helped, but now this occurs right after booting. I cannot activate any window by clicking into it, and also cannot minimalise, or close it with mouse. In few applications I cannot even interact with them with mouse (e.g. clicking on links in browser). I can scroll an active window with the trackball, and sometimes everything works normally for a little while. Everything works fine, when I use keyboard for this, I can resize, move, close windows with keyboard shortcuts, etc. I ran a complete Avast! scan, but it found nothing important. Also event viewer did not show any relevant errors. Here's a log from HijackThis if it helps anything.

  I build MVP's for clients regularly. Often I deploy on Heroku so they can see if the product works and demo it to prospects and investors. Then I have an application deployed on heroku, and it works like a charm, if not for one little thing. The app takes about 30 seconds to start up and heroku has the annoying habit of killing dyno's if they don't get traffic. My client is using the application for demo purposes now, so the load is extremely low and intermittent. I'm looking for a solution that is preferably: cost effective can be applied to multiple apps simultaneously What is the best way to avoid having the first request taking 30 seconds?

  Trying to access my Mac from a Windows 7 computer, I fail with the infamous error 86 incorrect password. Now this appears to be a well-known problem with countless threads on the internet giving as many "solutions" as there are discussion threads about it (mostly ranging from installing third-party commercial samba servers, to switching to some other protocol, to compiling a plain-vanilla Samba installation - the latter which I will probably do when I give up this :) ) I am stubborn, and I believe there must be some problem here that can be solved or worked around, but there is surprisingly little detail about this problem. It appears to have something to do with a mismatch of authentication methods.   I'm trying to record analogue stereo sound with my MacBookAir. The external mic is plugged to the headphones jack, but it is not being shown in the System Preferences. I did a little bit of research, and there is some rumor, that the headphone jack only supports digital-in for mics. Is there a built-in way to use the analogue stereo sound without purchasing an external converter or a new mic? With my old MacBook 2,1 it was usual for me to do this, but with my new MacBook Air 4,1 it seems to be a tough task.

• How can I copy the output from a remote command into the local clipboard?

  I use iTerm2 as my terminal client in Mac OS X. On the local system I can use pbcopy and pbpaste to transfer data between the system clipboard and the terminal, but of course this doesn't work when you're ssh'ed to another machine. Is there some way which I can take the result of a command and copy it to the clipboard automatically? Perhaps an applescript to grab the text on the iTerm windows, then get the next to last line? For instance, if I wanted to copy the current working directory: I run pwd, then use the mouse to select the text, and then press command + c. Is there any better / faster / automatic way of doing this? I'm not looking for a bulletproof solution that would work for every command (eg: might not work when there is a huge scrollback) - I'm just looking for something to make this task that I do quite often a little less tedious. Update I'm looking into using screen to do this, but I'm still not sure if it is possible.

But we disabled root logins as a security measure and can't remember any of our other user passwords. I'm assuming that there's nothing we can do at this point to get into the server? • cpu usage nearly 100 constantly windows xp sp3

  When running some heavy applications like games or virtual box for some time.. the cpu usage is normal for some 15 mins and then suddently cpu usage increases. even after i quit the heavy apps and when i start some other apps, the cpu usage of the new opened application is also very high.. this continues until i reboot the system. There is single particular process occupy more cpu. All the processes cpu usage is little high than normal.. Any solutions?

• Allow different headers on different servers using WFF

  We've got multiple web servers configured in a cluster using Microsoft's Web Farm Framework. One of the things I like to do to help debugging is to create a header in IIS that identifies the server that handled the request. Unfortunately when I try to do this, WFF sets the headers to the same value on all the servers. Is there a way around this? I tried looking into using skipDirectives, but I can't find any documentation on it (other than a little bit showing how to use it to skip directories and bindings). If there is documentation on this, please link to it! I would like to be able to read up more on it in case I need to do other things as well.
