• Getting the height of a div after setting it to auto in IE

  Hi, I'm writing some JavaScript that changes the size of some content. To do this I need to know the size of a div within my content. If I have the following html: <div id="wrapper"> ... other stuff ... <div id="inner" style="height:400px">Some text in here</div> ... other stuff ... </div> And the following JavaScript: $('#inner').height('auto'); var height = $("#wrapper").height(); In FireFox and Chrome the height variable increases as the inner div expands to fit all the text. In IE this stays the same. I guess it doesn't redraw the div straight away. Anybody know how to get the new correct height in IE? Cheers

• WebView with NSShadow slowdown

  I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations. • mod_rewrite with GET requests

  I have mod_rewrite working on most of my site. Right now I have a search that normally would point to search.php?keyword=KEYWORD And I'm trying to rewrite that to search/?keyword=KEYWORD Just to make it a little bit cleaner. So here's my mod_rewrite. (There are other rules I'm just posting the one that isn't working.) RewriteRule ^search/?keyword=([^/\.]+)/?$ search.php?search=$1 When I type a search in the address bar way I want it to be, I get a page telling me its a "broken link" (I'm guessing that that's Chrome's equivalent of a 404 error). So what am I doing wrong? I think that the problem is the '=' or the '?' sign in the rule (the first part) because when I take the ?keyword= part out, it works. Does that make sense?

• Transparent Select/Option text in IE

  I've created the JS fiddle to demonstrate my problem: http://jsfiddle.net/C8NUf/1/ HTML: <select> <option> Test </option> <option> Another Test </option> </select> Style: select { color: transparent; } In chrome, the selected text "test" is properly blanked out by setting the color to transparent, in IE the test is still black. How can I fix this issue in IE? Ideally I want to make this change via JQuery, but that doesn't seem very relevant to the overall problem. Thanks, Daniel

• Small line-height cross-browser difference

  So basicly my problem is that the line-heights in Firefox are a little bittle "larger" than in other browsers even though they're all fixed line-heights. For example, you have a block element which has a height from 100px and the line-height is set to 102px. Now, in Firefox the vertical alignment of text is perfect. But in the latest Chrome and Safari 4, the text stands 2px or so higher. Isn't there any way to fix this? Thanks.

• Issue with css float -- Hindering IE6 from putting div in next line

  Hi, I've got an issue with floating divs in IE6. There's one navigation div on the left and one content div for the rest of the page. They've got the following css values: #navigation { float: left; width: 185px; padding-left: 5px; overflow: auto; height: 100%; } #content { overflow: auto; height: 100%; } In Firefox, IE8, Chrome and Opera, I get scrollbars for the content div when I resize the page to a size where both divs can't fit in as a whole. The navigation div stays in its place. And that is the desired behaviour. But in IE6, there are no scrollbars for the content div. Instead, when the page is getting too small, IE6 simply puts the content div under the navigation div. Do you know any way to hinder IE6 from this behaviour?

• Linux program - reverse highlighted text

  I want to develop a program that will run on the background of my Ubuntu 12.04 so when some text is selected in some textbox of any running program and some key-combination is pressed (like ctrl-F12), the text will be cut, reversed, and pasted in the same place. I know some programs that do it on windows. It is useful in some programs and web-pages that do not support right-to-left languages like arabic and hebrew - the letters are printed from left to right so the text becomes reversed. More specifically I need it in Prezi that has this kind of bug in their embedded flash editor (I thought about writing a chrome-plugin, but I don't think such plugin can manipulate the selected text inside a flash objects). Do you know if such a program exist? Where should I start reading in order to develop a program with such capabilities (manipulate selected text in other programs)? Thanks

• How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

  Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded.   I'm writing an HTML5 canvas visualization. According to the Chrome Developer Tools profiler, 90% of the work is being done in (program), which I assume is the V8 interpreter at work calling functions and switching contexts and whatnot. Other than logic optimizations (e.g., only redrawing parts of the visualization that have changed), what can I do to optimize the CPU usage of my JavaScript? I'm willing to sacrifice some amount of readability and extensibility for performance. Is there a big list I'm missing because my Google skills suck? I have some ideas but I'm not sure if they're worth it: Limit function calls When possible, use arrays instead of objects and properties Use variables for math operation results as much as possible Cache common math operations such as Math.PI / 180 Use sin and cos approximation functions instead of Math.sin() and Math.cos() Reuse objects when passing around data instead of creating new ones Replace Math.abs() with ~~ Study jsperf.com until my eyes bleed Use a preprocessor on my JavaScript to do some of the above operations

• JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

  I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this: <!--[if lt IE 8]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7.   When writing a JavaScript animation, you of course make a loop using setInterval (or repeated setTimeout). But what is the best delay to use in the setInterval/setTimeout call(s)? In the jQuery API page for the .animate() function, the user "fbogner" says: Just if anyone is interested: Animations are "rendered" using a setInterval with a time out of 13ms. This is quite fast! Chrome's fastest possible interval is about 10ms. All other browsers "sample" at about 20-30ms. Any idea how jQuery determined to use this specific number?

• PHP class that changes an image and reloads the page not displaying new image in Internet Explorer

  I have a class that runs a function when the image is clicked on to display an additional image. This function produces a linked div tag that reloads the page with a set of variables that then produces another image. The image is set as a background image on a large div tag behind the linked div tags to give the same effect as an image map but without using an image map or a SVG. This works perfectly in Chrome and Firefox but will not display the new image in Internet Explorer until you F5 the page again with the get variables in the URL? Does anyone know how to fix this issue so that it works in IE the same as the other browsers? Many thanks.

  I can't understand why in Opera and IE the following code does not work... $("#form_" + $(this).attr('id')).serialize(); I checked it by only getting the attribute; worked I checked if I could get the form data without serialize; worked How should I code this? Tried a lot of combinations and stuff but nothing works.. why does this isn't working in opera? In chrome I have no problems... To answer some of the questions below I have multiple forms on my page, each with an unique id (from_1, form_5 etc.) I checked this and is correct. The form data needs to be fetched when a select changes, so data call is fired by an change event.

Although with page-break and css i can produce a good looking report, i want to export that report to a pdf in order to be printed better without ,the url,page title and other stuff that browsers add. Note in Chrome there isnt page setup!!!   Here's the sample code: var d = new Date("2010-06-09T19:20:30+01:00"); document.write(d); On FF3.6 this will give you: Wed Jun 09 2010 14:20:30 GMT-0400 (EST) Other browers tested; Chrome 5, Safari 4, IE7 give: Invalid Date I know there is limited to no support for ISO8601 dates, but does anyone know what and/or where the difference is in FF3.6 that allows this to work? My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

When I tried to run the python script it generated, it gave me a "SyntaxError: invalid syntax" error message.
