  • what are good ways to implement search and search results using ajax?

    i have some text box in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result. When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid. Notes: This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page. I know many ways to do this some of them are: 1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution" 2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later". 3- .... My question is: What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish. I just want to know your thoughts about this issue.

  • mysql - multiple where and search

    I'm trying to write a SQL query that satisfies multiple criteria. Of these, most are connected via a column, so joins are possible, however, some queries are such that I'd have to search additional tables for the information. What would be the least expensive and best way to do this? Let's say that we have a few tables. One table contains information such as sales information for a server: the salesperson, client id, service lease term, timestamps etc. It is possible that a client has multiple sales but with a different "service". I'd need to pick up all of the different ones. Another table has the quotes for the services, I'd need to pick some information out about this, whilst another, which could be joined to this one has some more information. Those tables are linked by a common client ID, so joins are possible, but I'd also need to search the first table for multiple instances of the client ID. Of course, I'd want to restrict the search to certain timestamps, which I can easily do as the timestamps are stored in MySQL format.

    Hi I'm building a very simple search system using ASP.NET MVC. I had it originally work by doing all the logic inside the controller but I am now moving the code piece by piece into a repository. Can anyone help me do this. Thanks. Here is the original Action Result that was in the controller. public ActionResult Index(String query) { var ArticleQuery = from m in _db.ArticleSet select m; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(query)) { ArticleQuery = ArticleQuery.Where(m => m.headline.Contains(query) orderby m.posted descending); } return View(ArticleQuery.ToList()); } As you can see, the Index method is used for both the initial list of articles and also for the search results (they use the same view). In the new system the code in the controller is as follows: public ActionResult Index() { return View(_repository.ListAll()); } The Repository has the following code: public IList<Article> ListAll() { var ArticleQuery = (from m in _db.ArticleSet orderby m.posted descending select m); return ArticleQuery.ToList(); } and the Interface has the following code: public interface INewsRepository { IList<Article> ListAll(); } So what I need to do is now add in the search query stuff into the repository/controller methods using this new way.     I have a model of events that has various information such as date, location, and description of whats going on. I would like for my users to be able to search through the events list through a set of different textboxes but I having a hard time getting the syntax just right in my view I have... <% form_tag users_path, :method => 'get' do %> (<%= text_field_tag :search_keyword, params[:search_keyword] %>) + (<%= text_field_tag :search_zip, params[:search_zip] %>) <%= submit_tag "Find Events!", :name => nil %> <% end %> and in the controller I'm trying to query through the results.... if params[:search_keyword] @events = Event.find(:all, :conditions => [' name LIKE ? ', "%#{params[:search_keyword]}%"]) elsif params[:search_zip] @events = Event.find(:all, :origin=> params[:search_zip], :within=>50 ) else @events = Event.find(:all) end How do I code it so that it will perform the search only if the textbox isnt empty? also if both textboxes are filled then @events should be the product of BOTH queries? if have no idea if this would work =(???@event = @event+ event.find.....???

  • Perl Script to search and replace in .SQL query file with user inputs

    I have a .SQL file containing a large number of queries. They are being run against a database containing data for multiple states over multiple years. The machine I am running this on can only handle running the queries for one state, in one year, at a time. I am trying to create a Perl script that takes user input for the state abbreviation, the state id number, and the year. It then creates a directory for that state and year. Then it opens the "base" .SQL file and searches and replaces the base state id and year with the user input, and saves this new .SQL file to the created directory. The current script I have (below) stops at open(IN,'<$infile') with "Can't open [filename]" It seems that it is having difficulty finding or opening the .SQL file. I have quadruple-checked to make sure the paths are correct, and I have even tried replacing the $path with an absolute path for the base file. If it was having trouble with creating the new file I'd have more direction, but since it can't find/open the base file I do not know how to proceed. #!/usr/local/bin/perl use Cwd; $path = getcwd(); #Cleans up the path $path =~ s/\\/\//sg; #User inputs print "What is the 2 letter state abbreviation for the state?     Is there a Google API similar to Yahoo and Bing's API's to check for the number of indexed pages on a specified domain? For example, for Yahoo if I type in the following URL: http://search.yahooapis.com/SiteExplorerService/V1/pageData?appid=MTSlade&query=http://www.dave-sellers.co.uk&domain_only=1&results=1 Then it will return some XML detailing the number of pages indexed as 'totalResultsAvailable' Any idea? But it seems that Perl is the most popular language when it comes to CGI-based stuff. Why is that? Wouldn't it be faster programmed in C or machine code?     It comes up from time to time and I'm wondering of it's possible to use type info when searching in visual studio, or is there a plugin that includes this? I'd like to search for the phrase "x == " or "x.ToString();" where x is of type 'Person'. The normal regex searches are strictly searching the text as opposed to the content and I figured out a long time ago that any thought I have is never the first.

  • Searching in Xcode not finding results (searching my source)

    I'm pulling my hair out on this and Google results are skewed since it thinks I want to find out how to code something. My problem is that when trying to search my code with the String Matching box it finds nothing, even if I enter something that is on the screen below. Is it Spotlight that is delivering these results? I'm not excluding anything in my Spotlight index so should I just rebuild the index? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    For some unknown reason I'm running into a problem when passing a variable to a full text search stored procedure performs many times slower than executing the same statement with a constant value. Any idea why and how can that be avoided?     Just wondering if there was a nice (already implemented/documented) algorithm to do the following Given any shape (without crossing edges) and two points inside that shape, compute all the paths between the two points such that all reflections are perfect reflections. The path lengths should be limited to a certain length otherwise there are infinite solutions. I'm not interested in just shooting out rays to try to guess how close I can get, I'm interested in algorithms that can do it perfectly. Search based, not guess/improvement based.
