    I'm making a game that uses an Entity/Component architecture basically a port of Artemis's framework to c++,the problem arises when I try to make a PlayerControllerComponent, my original idea was this. class PlayerControllerComponent: Component { public: virtual void update() = 0; }; class FpsPlayerControllerComponent: PlayerControllerComponent { public: void update() { //handle input } }; and have a system that updates PlayerControllerComponents, but I found out that the artemis framework does not look at sub-classes the way I thought it would. So all in all my question here is should I make the framework aware of subclasses or should I add a new Component like object that is used for logic.

  • Are "skip deltas" unique to svn?

    The good folks who created the SVN version control system use a structure they refer to as "skip deltas" to store the revision history of files internally. A revision is stored as a delta against an earlier revision. However, revision N is not necessarily stored as a delta against revision N-1, like this: 0 <- 1 <- 2 <- 3 <- 4 <- 5 <- 6 <- 7 <- 8 <- 9 Instead, revision N is stored as a delta against N-f(N), where f(N) is the greatest power of two that divides N: 0 <- 1 2 <- 3 4 <- 5 6 <- 7 0 <------ 2 4 <------ 6 0 <---------------- 4 0 <------------------------------------ 8 <- 9 (Superficially it looks like a skip list but really it's not that similar - for instance, skip deltas are not interested in supporting insertion in the middle of the list.) You can read more about it here. My question is: Do other systems use skip deltas? Were skip deltas known/used/published before SVN, or did the creators of SVN invent it themselves?

    I recently updated from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS and for the first time it worked! However, whenever I move my mouse over an application icon on the unity shell, the animation takes forever to show me what the name of the application is ( A.k.a the tooltip ). The same happens with menus and sub-menus. Other than that, it is overall in general, slow. I just want to know if there are any tips to fix this or make my system faster.     Question about Byte-Pairing for data compression. If byte pairing converts two byte values to a single byte value, splitting the file in half, then taking a gig file and recusing it 16 times shrinks it to 62,500,000. My question is, is byte-pairing really efficient? Is the creation of a 5,000,000 iteration loop, to be conservative, efficient? I would like some feed back on and some incisive opinions please.   • What exactly is a chroot? Is it similar to a simultaneous dual boot?

    It has been suggested to me that the use of a chroot might solve my problem of building an application that must run on an embedded device. I have inferred from this description that it is somehow similar to creating the embedded environment locally on my machine which I can then use to develop on from my desktop development machine. Is this the right way to look at the functionality or have I totally misunderstood? In order to get some idea of how it works I read this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebootstrapChroot which I will attempt to make a chroot for an old Ubuntu version on my machine. However, as I am a total linux novice, I am a bit concerned that as I do not entirely know what I am doing is there anyway that I could end up with an unusable system?? It sort of feels like the inverse of map. Looking for some staffing best practices based on first hand experience and was hoping that there is some experience in this area that can provide "best practice" application: Three High Availability (99.99% plus) Enterprise Level Data Centers geographically dislocated, one manned 24x7x365, one lights out, one co-location running HOT-HOT-HOT supporting a global community. More than 2,000 operating systems consisting of 95% Windows, 5% Linux and Solaris, 45% virtualized, more than 100TB storage. No desktop support, no Network Administration (administrated separately), running N+1 and serving more than 250 Billion page views annually. Based on experience what has been your experience with Server to "Data Center System Administrator/Engineer" ratio? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • Super slow and laggy?

    I'm a native Windows user, running 7 Home Premium atm. In the past I installed Ubuntu 10 on my netbook I believe, but was a bit 'scared' by it. Anyways, I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100gb and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only ,but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: - 1tb HDD - 8gb ddr3 ram - ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1gb) - AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3,2ghz CPU(64 bits) Thanks in advantage!
