• Tags php improving database speed and user experience

  How did stackOverFlow, excuse me if it wasn't the first implementation of this system. Decide what its initial tags where? I want to provide users with the best experience on my site and am implementing a tags system. I don't care about search engines or any of that. I just care about my users. Does any one have any advice about things that have failed or succeeded when they allowed users to tag things? Does any one know some good resources about the methodologies of user tagging? Does any one know some good resources about implementing a tags system from a programming perspective, database structures, theories, etc ? I'll give my check to who ever I feel points me in the best direction on the subject.

I got the part of checking to make sure the log in information corresponds with the database information, but is stuck on how to take the email address and store into a session. • SQL query: Number of comments posted in last 24 hours by people a user is following

  I've got a site where users follow users they like and can read their latest updates. I'd like to show my users a simple count of how many comments the people they follow have posted in the last 24 hours. I'm having trouble figuring out the query. I have two tables. comment -cid (comment id) -timestamp -uid (id of person who posted the comment) -comment (content of the comment) user_relationships -requester_id (id of the user who followed the person) -requestee_id (id of the person who was followed) In plain english, I think the query is something like this: COUNT the cid.comment from the comments table where uid.comment is equal to requestee_id.user_relationships associated with requester_id.user_relationships value of X. I need to get all the UIDs of people being followed by a given UID from the user_relationship table. Then count up how many comments those people have posted in the last 24 hours and spit that number out. What would this query look like?

  Scenario: I have a fairly generic table (Data), that has an identity column. The data in this table is grouped (lets say by city). The users need an identifier in order for printing on paper forms, etc. The users can only access their cites data, so if they use the identity column for this purpose they will see odd numbers (e.g. a 'New York' user might see 1,37,2028... as the listed keys. Idealy they would see 1,2,3... (or something similar) The problem of course is concurrency, this being a web application you can't just have something like: UserId = Select Count(*)+1 from Data Where City='New York' Has anyone come up with any cunning ways around this problem?

• In Rails, what could cause a user to have another user's session?

  I have a Rails application using with an authentication system using Restful Authentication without any modification. Users have reported finding themselves logged in as the wrong user. In at least one case it was on their very first page view, never having logged in before. Is it possible their session ids are getting mixed up? Would switching to CookieStore make it impossible for this to happen since no session data is stored on the server this way? I suspect the problem is related to Passenger but I don't know where to start debugging this. Its only happened about 4 times in several months of being live so its virtually impossible to reproduce. Environment: ActiveRecord session storage Rails 2.2.2 Passenger 2.0.1 Apache 2 Ruby 1.8.6 Many thanks

  I read this on msdn: Views let different users to see data in different ways, even when they are using the same data at the same time. This is especially useful when users who have many different interests and skill levels share the same database. For example, a view can be created that retrieves only the data for the customers with whom an account manager deals. The view can determine which data to retrieve based on the login ID of the account manager who uses the view. My question: For the above example , i would have to have a column named Userid/LoginId on my table on which the view is created so that i can apply a check option in the view for this column. and then if a user with a name not in that column tries to enter data , then he/she is blocked.

• How do I use SPMemember.ID property to get User or Group

  I have to write a utility to enumerate and manage the owners of groups within a SharePoint site. I know I can use the Groups property of the SPWeb object to retrieve a collection of groups. And I know I can use the Owner property of the group to get back the owner. My problem is that I do not know what to do next. The SPGroup.Owner property returns a SPMember object. The member object has one property called ID that returns the unique ID (an integer) of the member. What I cannot seem to find information on is how to use that integer value to determine if the member is a User or a Group and how to get back additional details (say the name). Any ideas? Thanks.

• 403 Forbidden for web root on Apache on Mac OS X v10.7, but can access user directories

  When I access http://localhost/ I get 403 Forbidden, but if I access http://localhost/~username it serves up pages. Things I've tried: Checking error logs Swapping out with original httpd conf files Changing DocumentRoot to my user directory (after all that should work if I can access ~username) I've seen 30 plus Q&A sites that all point to people having trouble with user directories being forbidden. I have the opposite problem, and so I'm tearing my hair out here.

  Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

• File not found error on User control on production

  I made 2 usercontrols for sharepoint 2007 site. Everything is working fine on test server. I deployed it on production but only 1 got deployed and placed properly. The second user control is added n deployed to web part galleries but gives File not found error when i add it on web part page. I deployed it using WSP. yet it gives this error. I checked logs it did not show anything. I have no idea what to do. please help.   I am using VisualWebDeveloperExpress2008 with Access as the membership provider. I have some cases where I want users to edit their own data. This would involve a query where the UserId should equal the UserID of the user who is using the site. I am expecting to use WHERE UserId = ?, but I have not found out where to direct "?". The IDE gives several choices, but I am uncertain which to choose.   I have a problem, which should be simple to solve, but i can't find the method to call to solve this problem: My problem is, that every Task Event (org.activiti.engine.task.Event) returnes null by calling Event.getUserId(); If I take a look into the database I see that the database table ACT_HI_COMMENT has null as value for the column USER_ID_ for every row. I generate these TaskEvents programmatically by calling (for example) processEngine.getTaskService().addComment(task.getId(), null, commentMessage); processEngine.getTaskService().addUserIdentityLink(task.getId(), user.getId(), IDENTITY_LINK_OBSERVER); I guess there is a simple method that I must call to solve this problem, something like processEngine.setCurrentUser(authenticatedUser.getId()); Any suggestions?

• Dynamic access to tables from another database inside an user function

  I have an user defined table function in SQL Server that aggregate data from several tables including a couple of tables of another database. That is done hardcoding the name of the database in the queries, but we want to make the database name configurable (because our databases usually share the server with the databases of other applications). I tried to construct a dynamic query string inside the function using the database name that is stored in a configuration table, but: When I tried exec(@sqlStatement) SQL Server said that execute string is not allowed inside a function. Then I tried exec sp_executesql @sqlStatement and the function was created, but when you execute it SQL Server says that inside a function you can only run extended functions and procedures. So the question is: is possible create a function or stored procedure that access a table in another database without having to recreate the function when the database name is different? TIA.

• How to handle #(hash) character in SEO friendly url?

  How do you bypass the default behaviour if #(hash) which is to go to a specific part of a page? The problem that I have is that the # character is a part of the SEO friendly url which is a title and the #(hash) is part of the content (i.e. like with C#). I can't retrieve the whole string and I only get the characters before the #. Example: www.domain.com/C#-programming-book in this example I only get 'C' and not the '-programming-book' part. I am not using any javascript at the moment and would like to only use a PHP solution for this. Before anyone suggests that I used url encoding, the criteria for the seo friendly url is that it should be human readable and easily remembered. So converting the hash to '%23' does not pass the criteria. Is there no way around it?

THe layout will be used on every page, so I'm not sure how to do this, as I've seen, the Auth Component can only be used in the controller, this would be nice if I had to do this in only one view, but for every view, how can I do this? The function then returns this data structure. I'm using boost.test and I want to create a unit test to check that the output data type is correct given some inputs. However I don't know how to go about it since the input isn't passed as an argument to the function.
