• Gaining access to jndi environment variables within a Tomcat LifecycleListener

  I'm using a LifecycleListener in tomcat to initialize some objects required by contexts in my web server. Within LifecycleListener I would like to have access to GlobalNamingResources Environment variables to keep the configuration for the server inside the server.xml file. When trying various approaches I get the following error: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name java:comp is not bound in this Context I'm assuming that the jndi is not initialized by this stage of the server startup process. Any ideas on how to tackle this?

• How to check value of stored procedure output parameter

  I have a stored procedure that: A. inserts some rows into a "table variable" based on some joins B. selects all values from column x from that table into a string with comma separated values C. selects all from the "table variable" If I execute the procedure like this: EXEC CatalogGetFilmDetails2 2,111111; a table is returned as instructed per step C above. How can I execute it so that also the output parameter value is displayed? (see point B above). I need to check if it's calculated properly. And since the second parameter is of output type, meaning it's calculated inside the procedure, why is it mandatory to specify a value for it when executing the procedure? I normally use a random value for it, it anyway doesn't matter/impact the result. On the other hand if I try to execute it without the output parameter, it returns an error) Thank you very much! • Difficulty creating a paging function with MySQL and ColdFusion

  I'm trying to create pagination for search results using MySQL and ColdFusion. My intention is to only retrieve the queries that can be displayed on a single page, thus making the process efficient. I tried using two queries in my function, but I could not return two variables to the cfinvoke. Since 'a' is a part of the closure of the inner function, it ideally should never get garbage collected, since the inner function 'fun', may be passed as a reference to an external context.So 'fun' should still be able to access 'a', from the external context. If my understanding is correct, how does garbage collection happen then, and how does it ensure to have enough memory space, since keeping all variables in memory until the execution of the program might not be tenable ?

  Given the following method: def some_method :value end The following statements work as I would expect: some_method || :other # => :value x = some_method || :other # => :value But the behaviour of the following statement perplexes me: some_method = some_method || :other # => :other It creates a local variable called some_method as expected, and subsequent calls to some_method return the value of that local variable. But why does it assign :other rather than :value? I understand that it's probably not a smart thing to do, and can see how it might be ambiguous, but I thought the right-hand-side of the assignment should be evaluated prior to the assignment being considered... I've tested this in Ruby 1.8.7 and Ruby 1.9.2 with identical results. Cheers! Paul

  Hi, After writing deployment scripts from within the ISE, we need our CI server to be able to run them automatically, i.e. from the command line or via a batch file. I have notice some significant differences between the following calls: powershell.exe -File Script.ps1 powershell.exe -Command "& '.\Script.ps1'" powershell.exe .\Script.ps1 Some simple examples: When using -File, errors are handled in the exact same way as the ISE. The other two calls seem to ignore the $ErrorActionPreference variable, and do not catch Write-Error in try/catch blocks. When using pSake: The last 2 calls work perfectly Using the ISE or the -File parameter will fail with the following error: The variable '$script:context' cannot be retrieved because it has not been set Could someone help me understand the implications of each syntax, and why they are behaving differently?   This is maybe a follow up to question about nullable types. Where exactly are nullable value types (int?...) stored in memory? First I thought it's clear enough, as Nullable<T> is struct and those are value types. Then I found Jon Skeet's article "Memory in .NET", which says: Note that a value type variable can never have a value of null - it wouldn't make any sense, as null is a reference type concept, meaning "the value of this reference type variable isn't a reference to any object at all". I am little bit confused after reading this statement. So let's say I have int? a = null;. As int is normally a value type, is it stored somehow inside struct Nullable<T> in stack (I used "normally" because I don't know what happens with value type when it becomes nullable)? Or anything else happens here - perhaps in heap?

  Inside of my QGraphicsRectItem::paint(), I am trying to draw the name of the item within its rect(). However, for each of the different items, they can be of variable width and similarly names can be of variable length. Currently I am starting with a maximum font size, checking if it fits and decrementing it until I find a font size that fits. So far, I haven't been able to find a quick and easy way to do this. Is there a better, or more efficient way to do this? • C# socket blocking behavior

  My situation is this : I have a C# tcp socket through which I receive structured messages consisting of a 3 byte header and a variable size payload. The tcp data is routed through a network of tunnels and is occasionally susceptible to fragmentation. The solution to this is to perform a blocking read of 3 bytes for the header and a blocking read of N bytes for the variable size payload (the value of N is in the header). The problem I'm experiencing is that occasionally, the blocking receive operation returns a partial packet. That is, it reads a volume of bytes less than the number I explicitly set in the receive call. After some debugging, it appears that the number of bytes it returns is equal to the number of bytes in the Available property of the socket before the receive op. This behavior is contrary to my expectation. If the socket is blocking and I explicitly set the number of bytes to receive, shouldn't the socket block until it recv's those bytes?, any help, pointers, etc would be much appreciated.

The program must be able to handle any number of leading random integers. Example if the opened file reads this on its first line: 100 120 92 82 38 49 102 and the SKIP_NUMBER variable is assigned 3 the number the function would grab is 82. The function must continue to grab the integers every SKIP_NUMBER until it reaches the end of the file. These integers taken from the txt file are then placed into another text file.   So a Regex pro I am not, and I'm looking for a good way to do this. I have a large string which contains a variable number <img> tags. I need to change the path on all of these images to images/. The large string also contains other stuff not just these img's. <img src='http://server.com/stuff1/img1.jpg' /> <img src='http://server.com/stuff2/img2.png' /> Replacing the server name with a ReplaceAll() I could do, it's the variable path in the middle I'm clueless on how to include. It doesn't necessarily need to be a regex, but looping through the entire string just seems wasteful.

  I have a usercontrol with asp:textbox controls on it that also performs postbacks. If two users, who are both identified by a different session variable, postback the page within the same second, one user will see the other user's viewstate values in the text boxes. I have validated that this happens by setting a textbox, a session variable, and a cookie to the same value (the same value that identifies the user) and writing to the log when all three don't match. The text box's value is the one that is logged as the other user's value. ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 Has anyone experienced this issue.

• Rails learn's confusion

  This is a beginner's rails learning confusion. When I learn rails, from time to time, I feel frustrated on rails' principle "Convention over Configuration". Rails uses heavily on conventions. A lot of them are just naming conventions. If I forget a convention, I will either use the wrong naming and get unexpected result or get things magically done but don't understand how. Sometimes, I think of configuration. At least configuration lists everything clearly and nothing is in fog. In rails, there seems a hidden, dark contract between you and the machine. If you follow the contract, you communicate well. But a beginner usually forgets items listed on the contract and this usually leads to confusion. That's why when I first pick up rails, I feel like it is somehow difficult to learn. Besides, there are many other things that could be new to a learner, such as using git, using plugins from community, using RESTful routing style, using RSpec. All these are new and come together in learning ruby and rails. This definitely adds up difficulties for a beginner. In contrast, if you learn php, it wouldn't be that bad. You can forget many things and focus on learning php itself. You don't need to learn database handling if you know SQL already(in rails, you need to learn a whole new concept migration), you don't have to learn a new decent unit test(in rails, usually they teach RSpec along the way because rails is agile and you should learn test-driven development in the early learning stage), you don't have to learn a new version control(in rails, you will be taught about git anyway), you don't have to use complicated plugins(in rails, they usually use third-party plugins in textbook examples! what the hell? why not teach how to do a simplified similar thing in rails?), you don't have to worry RESTful style. All in all, when I learn php, I learn it quick and soon I start to write things myself. Learning php is similar to learning C/java. It tastes like those traditional languages. When I learn rails, it is more difficult. And I need to learn ruby as well (I believe many of you learn ruby just because of rails). Does anyone have the similar feeling as I have? How do you overcome it and start to master rails? Hints will be welcomed. Thank you.

  I'm trying to cope with MySQL's error MySQL server has gone away in a django env. The quick workaround was to set the global wait_timeout MySQL variable to a huge value, but in the long run this would accumulate to many open connections. I figured I'll get the wait_timeout variable and poll the server in smaller intervals. After implementing this I tried to test it but am failing to get the error. I set global wait_timeout=15 and even set global interactive_timeout=15 but the connection refuses to disappear. I'm sure I'm polling the database in larger intervals than 15sec. What could be the cause for not being able to recreate this error?

I would like however to somehow pass time_left to the view as a Javascript variable as this value is use by a countdown JQuery plugin. It does not auto play even the auto play variable is set to true in the RewriteRule. Is there something wrong with my code or it can't be done in swf file?

  Hello, i often work on private projects using the WinApi, and as you might know, it has thousands of named and typedefed structs like MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION. I will stick to this one in my question, what still is preferred, or better when you want to name a variable of this type. Is there some kind of style guide for this case? For example if i need that variable for the VirtualQueryEx function. Some ideas: MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memoryBasicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memory_basic_information; Just use the name of the struct non captialized and with or without the underlines. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION basicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION information; Short form? MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION mbi; I often see this style, using the abbreviation of the struct name. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION buffer; VirtualQueryEx defines the third parameter lpBuffer (where you pass the pointer to the struct), so using this name might be an idea, too. Cheers

  Hello Everyone, I have 2 checkboxes in a form and onclick of these, some php code needs to be executed and based on the result of the code, the checkbox is checked or unchecked. So i have written onclick = document.formName.submit(); Now it is triggering the same page and i am able to write the code. I am not able to differentiate which checkbox is checked. I don't want to use the procedure of:- calling javascript and then storing the value of the checkbox in a variable and making this variable as invisible. I would like to write something like document.formName.submit('checkbox1'). So that i should be able to handle the value of this or i dont know. Please suggest me an alternative method or better approach.

• Python: Find X to Y in a list of strings.

  I have a list of maybe a 100 or so elements that is actually an email with each line as an element. The list is slightly variable because lines that have a \n in them are put in a separate element so I can't simply slice using fixed values. I essentially need a variable start and stop phrase (needs to be a partial search as well because one of my start phrases might actually be Total Cost: $13.43 so I would just use Total Cost:.) Same thing with the end phrase. I also do not wish to include the start/stop phrases in the returned list. In summary: email = ['apples','bananas','cats','dogs','elephants','fish','gee'] start = 'ban' stop = 'ele' the magic here new_email = ['cats','dogs'] NOTES While not perfect formatting of the email, it is fairly consistent so there is a slim chance a start/stop phrase will occur more than once. There are also no blank elements.
