  • Core dump utility for .NET

    In my past life as a COBOL mainframe developer I made extensive use of a tool called Abendaid which, in the event of an exception, would give me a complete memory dump including a formatted list of every variable in memory as well as a complete stack trace of the program with the offending statement highlighted. This made pinpointing the cause of an error much simpler and saved a lot of step-through debugging and/or trace statements. Now I've made the transition to C# and .NET web development I find that the information provided by ASP.NET only tells half the story, giving me a stack trace, but not any of the variable or class information. This makes debugging more difficult as you then have to run the process again with the debugger to try and reproduce the error, not easy with intermittent errors or with assemblies that run under the likes of SQL Server or CRM. I've looked around quite a lot for something that does this but I can't find anything obvious. Does anyone have any idea if there is one, or if not, what I'd need to start with in order to write one?

  • JavaFX - question regarding binding button's disabled state

    I'm trying to create a dummy application that maintains a list of tasks. For now, all I'm trying to do is add to the list. I enter a task name in a text box, click on the add task button, and expect the list to be updated with the new item and the task name input to be cleared. I only want to be able to add tasks if the task name is not empty. The below code is my implementation, but I have a question regarding the binding. I'm binding the textbox's text variable to a string in my view model, and the button's disable variable to a boolean in my view model. I have a trigger to update the disabled state when the task name changes. When the binding of the task name happens the boolean is updated accordingly, but the button still appears disabled. But then when I mouse over the button, it becomes enabled. I believe this is due to JavaFX 1.3's binding being lazy - only updates the bound variable when it is read. Also, when I've added the task, I clear the task name in the model, but the textbox's text doesn't change - even though I'm using bind with inverse. Is there a way to make the textbox's text and the button's disabled state update automatically via the binding as I was expecting?   • File private variables in PHP

    Is it possible to define private variables in a PHP script so these variables are only visible in this single PHP script and nowhere else? I want to have an include file which does something without polluting the global namespace. It must work with PHP 5.2 so PHP namespaces are not an option. And no OOP is used here so I'm not searching for private class members. I'm searching for "somewhat-global" variables which are global in the current script but nowhere else. In C I could do it with the static keyword but is there something similar in PHP? Here is a short example of a "common.php" script: $dir = dirname(__FILE__); set_include_path($dir . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); // Do more stuff with the $dir variable When I include this file in some script then the $dir variable is visible in all other scripts as well and I don't want that. So how can I prevent this?

  • maven compile fails because i have a non-maven jar

  • Facebook writing on a wall problem - retrieves only null value.

    hi all friends, I am making a game application in that I want to pass my score on wall of face book. I've completed all the things (the log in and message passing part) but when I passes the score via global variable, I am getting only null as a value and not the score that I want. Is there any way to pass data or string to Face book and write on a wall?   • What is the easiest way to reference libraries in Qt projects?

    I have two Qt4 Gui Application projects and one shared library project, all referenced under a .pro file with the "subdirs" template. So, it's like: exampleapp.pro app1.pro app2.pro sharedlib.pro Now, what I want to do is reference sharedlib from app1 and app2 so that every time I run app1.exe, I don't have to manually copy sharedlib.dll from its own folder to app1.exe's folder. I could set PATH environment variable in the projects window, but this isn't very portable. I've looked at putting the LIBS variable in the app1.pro file, but I'm not sure if that refers to statically linked libraries only - I've tried it with various syntaxes and it doesn't seem to work with shared libs.

  • Does apps that play on the word Droid need to worry about Lucasfilm's Trademark?

    I've noticed in recent ads that the Verizon Droid and Droid Eris have to put up acknowledgement on Lucasfilm's trademark of the word "Droid", and had to pay licensing fees to use it. I'm wondering if an app I'm building that uses the word Droid in the naming is violating said trademark. I've noticed other apps that do it (Twitdroid), and never once considered it a problem. The name in question would be ServiceDroid.

  • C++ smart pointer for non-object type?

    Hi, I'm trying to use smart pointers such as auto_ptr, shared_ptr. However, I don't know how to use it in this situation. CvMemStorage *storage = cvCreateMemStorage(); ... use the pointer ... cvReleaseMemStorage(&storage); I'm not sure, but I think that the storage variable is just malloc'ed memory, not object. Is there a way to use the smart pointers for the storage variable? Thank you.

    Could anyone explain me why in the last lines, br is not recognized as variable? I've even tried putting br in the try clause, setting it as final, etc. Does this have anything to do with Java not support closures? This is just a pseudocode kind of example: f (x,y) { y = y+1; x = x+y; } main() { a = 2; b = 2; f(a+b, a) print a; } When accessing variable x in f, does it access the address of the temp variable which contains the result of a+b or will it access the individual addresses of a and b and then evaluate the value of a+b Please help.   • jQuery Sparklines: $.getJSON data can't be read

    I'm trying to generate a pie graph with Sparklines but I'm running into some trouble. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I feel it is a silly mistake. When I alert the variable it outputs "[2, 2, 61]". Now the jQuery code does work when I replace the snippet: var values = data.views; with var values = [2, 2, 61]; What am I doing wrong?

    I usually define my string variables in vb.net as Dim f_sName as string=String.Empty f_sName = "foo" Given the immutable nature of strings in .net, is there a better way to initialize strings and deal with the "Variable 'f_sName ' is used before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime." warning? Also for classes that do not have constructors which accept no arguments such as System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream, what is the best way to define and initialize a variable of that type?   • Creating many new instances vs reusing them?

    I have multiple business entities in VB.NET Windows Forms application. Right now they are instanced on application startup and used when needed. They hold descriptions of business entities and methods for storing and retrieving data. To cut the long story short, they are somewhat heavy objects to construct (they have some internal dictionaries and references to other objects) created and held in one big global variable called "BLogic". Should I refactor this so that each object is created when needed and released when out of scope? Then every event on UI will probably create a few of this objects. Should I strive to minimize creation of new objects or to minimize number of static and global objects? Generally I am trying to minimize the scope of every variable but should I treat this business logic objects specially?

    I was writing a simple Grails app and I have a spot in a gsp where one of my java beans in modified. <g:each in="${myList}" status="i" var="myVar"> // if the user performs some view action, update one of the myVar elements </g:each> This works, but I don't think it's quite threadsafe. myList is an http request variable but in cases of pages that use ajax (or other client side manipulations), it is possible for two threads to be modifying the same request scope variable The Spring AbstractController class provides a setSynchronizeOnSession method.   • Prevent Jcarousel from resetting to beginning position on page postback?

    I have a nice looking jarousel running from an asp:listview element, with asp:imagebuttons for the images. When clicked, the images in the carousel send the image id to querystring, and the new page is loaded with a larger version of the image and some asp:labels are filled in to describe the image. It looks and works great, except once the page reloads the jcarousel resets to original position, which is confusing to the user. What's the best way to prevent this? I tried using an UpdatePanel but couldn't figure out how to pass the querystring variable with the partial page update. I could pass the variable in a hidden field, but this wouldn't be very SEO friendly.

    Ok, maybe this isn't so amazing considering I don't really understand how the debugger works in the first place, let alone Edit and Continue, which is totally amazing. But I was wondering if anyone knew what the debugger is doing with variable declarations in this scenario. I can be debugging through my code, move the line of execution ahead - past a variables initial declaration and assignment, and the code still runs ok. If it's a value type it will have it's default value, for a ref type, null. So if I create a function that uses a variable before it's declared it won't compile, but if I use the debugger to run it that way it will still run without error. Why is this? And is this related to the fact that you can't put a breakpoint on a declaration?
