Redundancy algorithm for reading noisy bitstream

I'm reading a lossy bit stream and I need a way to recover as much usable data as possible. There can be 1's in place of 0's and 0's in palce of 1's, but accuracy is probably over 80%. A bonus would be if the algorithm could compensate for missing/too many bits as well. The source I'm reading from is analogue with noise (microphone via FFT), and the read timing could vary depending on computer speed. I remember reading about algorithms used in CD-ROM's doing this in 3? layers, so I'm guessing using several layers is a good option. What is IPKVM and why would I need that to install SQL Server on my Web Server?

Hello. I have a dedicated server, and will be installing SQL Server. However, my hosting company said they can connect an external CD ROM drive and give me KVM over IP to install SQL Server. My question is, what is IPKVM, and how does it work? Do I need special hardware or software on my side to use it....or do I just connect via remote desktop? Also, why can't I remote into my server through remote desktop instead of using KVM over IP?

git-diff in another directory

I'm currently writing a little zsh function that checks all of my git repositories to see if they're dirty or not and then prints out the ones that need a commit. Thus far, I've figured out that the quickest way to figure out a git repository's clean/dirty status is via git-diff and git-ls-files: if ! git diff --quiet || git ls-files --others --exclude-standard; then state=":dirty" fi I have two questions for you folks: Does anyone know of a quicker, more efficient way to check for file changes/additions in a git repo? I want my zsh function to be handed a file path (say ~/Code/git-repos/) and check all of the repositories in it. Is there a way to do without having to cd into each directory and run those commands? Something like git-diff --quiet --git-dir="~/Code/git-repos/..." would be fantastic. Thanks! :)

ID | Key | Value ================ 1 | 1 | ab 1 | 2 | cd 1 | 3 | ef 2 | 1 | gh 2 | 2 | ij 2 | 3 | kl Now I want to select the value of Keys 1 & 3 for all IDs, the return should be like this ID | 1 | 2 ================ 1 | ab | ef 2 | gh | kl So per ID 1 row containing the Values for Keys 1 & 3. I tried using 'join' but since I need to use multiple where clauses I can't figure out how to get this to work ..

I just started using git with github. I followed their instructions and ran into errors on the last step. I'm checking in an existing directory that isn't currently source-controlled (project about a week old). Other than that, my use case should be pretty run of the mill. Using 'git pull' vs 'git checkout -f' for website deployment

I've found two common approaches to automatically deploying website updates using a bare remote repo. The first requires that the repo is cloned into the document root of the webserver and in the post-update hook a git pull is used. cd /srv/www/siteA/ || exit unset GIT_DIR git pull hub master The second approach adds a 'detached work tree' to the bare repository. The post-receive hook uses git checkout -f to replicate the repository's HEAD into the work directory which is the webservers document root i.e. GIT_WORK_TREE=/srv/www/siteA/ git checkout -f The first approach has the advantage that changes made in the websites working directory can be committed and pushed back to the bare repo (however files should not be updated on the live server). The second approach has the advantage that the git directory is not within the document root but this is easily solved using htaccess. Is one method objectively better than the other in terms of best practice? What other advantages and disadvantages am I missing?

Automatic exit from bash shell script on error

Hi, I've been writing some shell script and I would find it useful if there was the ability to halt the execution of said shell script if any of the commands failed. See below for an example: #!/bin/bash cd some_dir ./configure --some-flags make make install So in this case if the script can't change to the indicated directory then it would certainly not want to do a ./configure afterward it fails. Now I'm well aware that I could have an if check for each command (which I think is a hopeless solution), but is there a global setting to make the script exit if one of the commands fails?

hi there, I have developed a windows application using C# VS 2008 and Sql 2005 express, i have testes the application on my machine and it works fine, my machine is win32 bit, when i tried the application on windows 64bit it keeps giving me an error message on the start of the application,although i installed the sql express on that machine but should i install .NETframwork3.5sp1 64 bit also? , the target machine is widows 7 64bit, also is there a technology or a way to make the application work in the following sequence: 1- the CD is auto run 2- the setup checks for the installed prerequists and install any necessery one without the interference of the user. one last question,should i rebuild the application on an 64 bit machine to make it work on 64 bit machine? thankx

Can't type after "ruby script/server" in InstantRails

I'm a newb to RoR. I'm using the book "Agile Web Development with Rails" to get started on Windows 7. In the command window, I run the following. >rails demo >cd demo >ruby script/server At this point, it boots the Mongrel server: => Booting Mongrel => Rails 2.3.5 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 => Call with -d to detach => Ctrl-C to shutdown server The book goes on to tell me to run ruby script/generate controller Say but, I cannot Ctrl-C -- or type anything for that matter -- after booting the Mongrel server. Am I supposed to create the new controller in another instance of the InstantRails command window? Right now, the only way I can stop the server is closing the window in which I started the server! Please let me know if you need any other details. tia.

Perforce "Locked client" error

I'm new to Perforce, and it is not going well at all. But currently, I am completely stuck, as all I can get it to say is: $ p4 open a_code_file.cpp Locked client 'my_hostname' can only be used by owner 'perforce'. I have absolutely no idea what I did to upset it, and the error message itself is meaningless gibberish to me. "perforce" doesn't own anything - all the files are owned by me. I am in a Perforce repository, ie, there's a .p4rc a few directories up. Edit: It only seems to be some files. If I: $ cd some_other_directory_in_the_repo $ p4 open a_file ... it works. So it's only some things...

If I enter it, the rest of the script goes without a hitch, but as I'm running it via cron, I really need to get it to read from the file... I have XCode 4.3 and I am getting this frustrating xml-lib related error. I have a feeling its because of the fact that 4.3 is not using /Developer folder but instead the /Applications/XCode.app/... SED, using variables and in with an array

What I am trying to do is run the sed on multiple files in the directory Server_Upload, using variables: AB${count} Corresponds, to some variables I made that look like: echo " AB1 = 2010-10-09Three " echo " AB2 = 2009-3-09Foo " echo " AB3 = Bar " And these correspond to each line which contains a word in master.ta, that needs changing in all the text files in Server_Upload. If you get what I mean... great, I have tried to explain it the best I can, but if you are still miffed I'll give it another go as I found it really hard to convey what I mean. cd Server_Upload for fl in *.UP; do mv $fl $fl.old done count=1 saveIFS="$IFS" IFS=$'\n' array=($(<master.ta)) IFS="$saveIFS" for i in "${array[@]}" do sed "s/$i/AB${count}/g" $fl.old > $fl (( count++ )) done It runs, doesn't give me any errors, but it doesn't do what I want, so any ideas?

If I search for "test," I get 0 results. But if I search for "test one" or "test two" I get the proper result. The search is ignoring the space. I assume that this is the reason for the latter error that I don't have a database configuration. How can I get PHP to compile a LaTeX document if it (www-data) can't get access to the required packages?

I have a PHP script that compiles LaTeX documents with the use of: exec('cd /path/to/doc && /usr/bin/latexmk -pdf filename.tex'); This is working for some of my LaTeX documents but my latest document doesn't compile and a look at the log reveals: !pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ecrm1000): Font ecrm1000 at 600 not found ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Which I have found is the result of LaTeX not being able to see the required font packages. When I run the same compile command under my username the document compiles as it should. So my question is, how can I get PHP (executing as www-data) to get access to the necessary LaTeX packages? I have tried installing the required package under the www-data account using: sudo -u www-data sudo apt-get install texlive-fonts-recommended but it askes for www-data's password, which I don't believe was set by me and isn't anything I've thrown at it. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 if it's any help.

Get CruiseControl to talk to github with the correct public key.

Hi All, Has anybody installed git and ControlControl and got CruiseControl to pull from GitHub on a window 2003 server. I keep getting public key errors (access denied) - Which is good i suppose as that confirms git is talking to github. However what is not good is that I dont not know where to install the rsa keys so they will be picked up by the running process (git in the context of cc.net). Any help would save me a lot of hair! I have tried installing the keys into; c:\Program Files\Git.ssh Whereby running git bash and cd ~ take me to: c:\Program Files\Git Current error from CC.net is Error Message: ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.CruiseControlException: Source control operation failed: Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly . I've tried all sorts of different variations (for example, including the destination filee and not, using quotes and not), and all I ever get is a "No such file or directory" error (and I KNOW it's there) or it hangs on an 200 Request OK and never does anything. ftp> open ibm.some_server Connected to ibm.some_server 230 USER1 is logged on. Working directory is "USER1.". Remote system type is MVS. ftp> cd 'Z.TABS.' 250 "Z.TABS." is the working directory name prefix. ftp> append 'SAMASCPY' 'SAMASCPY': No such file or directory ftp> append SAMASCPY 200 Port request OK. Anyone know what could be going on?

I hope someone can help me with this query. Basically I have two queries that I want to "combine". I want the second query as an extra column along with the first query. WinForms / .Net interactive world map - how?

In a CD collection program, I have each artist's country of origin stored in the main database and want to display a map of the world which: Colour-codes each country depending on the number of CDs by artists in that country Allows clicking on each country to filter a list of CDs to only ones by artists in that country This is a heavily simplified version of what I'm trying to do, but if I can at least get this far the rest should be easy enough to figure out. So far the closest thing I've found to what I'm trying to do is here: http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/blog/analytics-world-map-control Ideally I don't want to be embedding Flash in my program though, and the only other solutions I've found all involve SVG which I haven't managed to get working in practice outside of a web browser control (and I DEFINITELY don't want to be embedding a browser in the forms). Something in pure managed code and either GDI+ or WPF would be preferable. Are there any existing components that would get me started, or can anyone suggest how to approach it from scratch?

How many bytes does Oracle use when storing a single character?

I tried to look here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#i3253 And I understand that I have to provide string length for the column, I'm just not able to find out how many bytes oracle uses when storing a character. My limit is 500 characters, so if its 1 byte / character, I can create the column with 500, if its 2 byte / character then 1000, etc. Anyone have a link to the documentation or know for certain? In case it matters, the SQL is being called from PHP, so these are PHP strings I'm inserting into the database. Thanks.
