• Nginx routing script for NodeJS and Wordpress

  We are moving blogs and site from wordpress to nodejs and ready to move into production. However I'm not able to figure it out how to implement routing from front server (Nginx) to NodeJS (prefered web instance) and if data not synced yet into NodeJS website than (404 will throw by NodeJS) fall back to (using reverse proxy) to Wordpress and serve page, during the transformation period. Q1. Is the approach good for the scenario, or anyone can suggest better approach? Q2. Should NodeJS treat itself as Reverse proxy (using bouncy : https://github.com/substack/bouncy or similar package) in event of fall back or shoud stick with Nginx to do so using fastcgi approch. Both NodeJS and Wordpress are on single server only, In first scenario, /if resource available than serve directly User -> Nginx -> NodeJS (8080) \if resource not available then reverse query wordpress and serve content second scenario, /if resource available than serve directly User -> Nginx -> NodeJS (8080) \if resource not available then 404 to Nginx and Nginx script fallback to Wordpress (FastCGI PHP) Later we have plan to phase out Wordpress and PHP from the server environment completely. I'd like to see any examples of Nginx or Varnish scripts and/or NodeJS scripts if you have for me to refer. Thanks.

• Transaction classification. Artificial intelligence

  For a project, I have to classify a list of banking transactions based on their description. Supose I have 2 categories: health and entertainment. Initially, the transactions will have basic information: date and time, ammount and a description given by the user. For example: Transaction 1: 09/17/2012 12:23:02 pm - 45.32$ - "medicine payments" Transaction 2: 09/18/2012 1:56:54 pm - 8.99$ - "movie ticket" Transaction 3: 09/18/2012 7:46:37 pm - 299.45$ - "dentist appointment" Transaction 4: 09/19/2012 6:50:17 am - 45.32$ - "videogame shopping" The idea is to use that description to classify the transaction. 1 and 3 would go to "health" category while 2 and 4 would go to "entertainment". I want to use the google prediction API to do this. In reality, I have 7 different categories, and for each one, a lot of key words related to that category. I would use some for training and some for testing. Is this even possible? I mean, to determine the category given a few words? Plus, the number of words is not necesarally the same on every transaction. Thanks for any help or guidance! • Integration error in high velocity

  I've implemented a simple simulation of two planets (simple 2D disks really) in which the only force is gravity and there is also collision detection/response (collisions are completely elastic). I can launch one planet into orbit of the other just fine. The collision detection code though does not work so well. I noticed that when one planet hits the other in a free fall it speeds backward and goes much higher than its original position. Some poking around convinced me that the simplistic Euler integration is causing the error. Consider this case. One object has a mass of 1kg and the other has a mass equal to earth. Say the object is 10 meters above ground. Assume that our dt (delta t) is 1 second. The object goes to the height of 9 meters at the end of the first iteration, 7 at the end of the second, 4 at the end of the third and 0 at the end of the fourth iteration. At this points it hits the ground and bounces back with the speed of 10 meters per second. The problem is with dt=1, on the first iteration it bounces back to a height of 10. It takes several more steps to make the object change its course. So my question is, what integration method can I use which fixes this problem. Should I split dt to smaller pieces when velocity is high? Or should I use another method altogether? What method do you suggest?   I was looking to do UI development in QML, and I really want it to look native. • Reproducible freezes with on an AMD fusion (e350) sony vaio

  So a week ago I bought it and I've been struggling to make the Ubuntu which I installed stable. There's one thing that makes my life miserable, though. There's this easily reproducible freeze when I start some kind of video. So here is what happens: Everything works fine for some time I start vlc/mplayer/flashplayer/totem with something to watch In few minutes time I lose the sound (nothing in the logs at this point) At that time the video app instantly allocates all the memory and its CPU usage skyrockets. Total freeze. I can move the cursor around for few seconds and sometimes even switch to another app. But ultimately there comes the time I can't do anything - can't kill X with ctrl+alt+backspace (I have it enabled), can't switch to any other console (ctrl+alt+f1-6), can't connect to the machine via ssh. The only way to restart it is the ctrl+alt+SysRq+UABI magic :) What discourages me most is the fact I can't see anything in the logs. The only error I've noticed is Jun 19 17:00:37 serenity kernel: [ 1506.350676] software-center[17581]: segfault at 30 ip 00007fd3631b814c sp 00007fff18a6fa10 error 4 in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.4[7fd362f7d000+436000]. I've been searching through the Xorg log, kernel logs, syslog. If you have any idea how I can get more debug info I'll be glad to try them. Things I've tried: Changing drivers - the open source one, the proprietary driver xorg-edgers' ppa - https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa changing to the last stable kernel (2.6.39) Some notes: It my be irrelevant but the sound is constantly stuttering. This probably is a separate issue though I've found that if I start more video/sound apps the freeze happens faster.

• Ubuntu's security, Gaming, X server, situation [closed]

  Little background story. So when I first heard about the NSA spying on people I wasn't surprised, it also was the reason why I switched to Ubuntu. (Full time) It had it's disadvantages when comparing to Windows and it's AAA games and other stuff. My best friend is somewhat upset about me, using full time Ubuntu, because we play a game named "Dayz (an addon for Arma II)" and WineHQ wasn't of any help. Not to mention that he keeps asking me if WineHQ can run Dayz, but he clearly doesn't understand the situation of WineHQ, that it's free, that you have to be happy with what you got at the moment. (I'm not going to dual boot because, how else is gaming on Ubuntu/Linux going to happen?) But whenever I was in a nasty situation where I could do something so simply on Windows and not/hard on Ubuntu, I always thought "It's almost virus free, It's free, No one is spying on me." My Questions: My English isn't all that good, so could some one simplify/explain what the hell is going on the below standing link? • Configuring WS-Security with PeopleSoft Web Services

  I was speaking with a customer a few days ago about PeopleSoft Web Services.  The customer created a web service but when they went to deploy it, they had so many problems configuring ws-security, they pulled the service.  They spent several days trying to get it working but never got it working so they've put it on hold until they have time to work through the issues. Having gone through the process of configuring ws-security myself, I understand the complexity.  There is no magic 'easy' button to push.  If you are not familiar with all the moving parts like policies, certificates, public and private keys, credential stores, and so on, it can be a daunting task.  PeopleBooks documentation is good but does not offer a step-by-step example to follow.  Fear not, for those that want more help, there is a place to go. PeopleSoft released a Mobile Inventory Management application over a year ago.  It is a mobile app built with Oracle Fusion Application Development Framework (ADF) that accesses PeopleSoft content through standard web services.  Part of the installation of this app is configuring ws-security for the web services used in the application.  Appendix A of the PeopleSoft FSCM91 Mobile Inventory Management Installation Guide is called Configuring WS-Security for Mobile Inventory Management.  It is a step-by-step guide to configure ws-security between a server running Oracle Web Server Management (OWSM) and PeopleSoft Integration Broker.  Your environment might be different, but the steps will be similar, and on the PeopleSoft side, Integration Broker will remain a constant. On opening the contact on my desktop, I was surprised to see, I need to upgrade my account to view the contact. Doing some research along with my wife, I found this simple security vulnerability from LinkedIn that can let anyone view a contact’s full profile even when you have a “not upgraded” LinkedIn account and that the contact is a “3rd + Everyone Else”. Here’s an example of what I am talking about. I just made a random search on LinkedIn for a contact whose name starts with Sacha. Do note, this is just a walkthrough and I am not publicizing any Sacha. I check the “3rd + Everyone Else” and find a “LinkedIn Member”. On clicking this person’s profile to view, I am presented with the following page, asking me to upgrade. Make a note of this page’s web address and you get the profile id from it. For example, for this contact, the page address is: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=868XXX35 The Profile Id for this contact is 868XXX35. Now, open following page where the Profile Id is the same as the one we grabbed a moment earlier. https://touch.www.linkedin.com/?#profile/868XXX35 The mobile page exposes this contact information and you even get the possibility to connect to this person without an introduction mail (InMail). I hope someone from LinkedIn sees and issues a fix for this. I am pretty sure, it’s something that they don’t want the user to do without purchasing an upgrade package.

• Missing X-Spam-Status header

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (trusty) and have followed the directions in https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/mail-filtering.html and am sending and receiving mail just fine. While I do see X-Virus-Scanned headers in my messages, which suggests mail is indeed being processed, I do not see any X-Spam-Level or X-Spam-Score headers being added to messages. This makes downstream procmailrc and client-side filtering ...more difficult. While having $final_spam_destiny = D_DISCARD in /etc/amavis/conf.d/20-debian_defaults does greatly reduce spam to my inbox, I had concerns of false-positives prior to tuning and didn't know were there going, so have set it to D_PASS for the time being. This exposed the problem. I'm not sure where to look to start diagnosing the problem (otherwise I'd post a suspect configuration file). /etc/amavis/conf.d/15-content_filter_mode has the lines uncommented to enable virus and spam checks, and virus checking appears to be working according to the headers. Spam Assassin certainly seems to be starting just fine, too. • Securing credentials passed to web service

  I'm attempting to design a single sign on system for use in a distributed architecture. Specifically, I must provide a way for a client website (that is, a website on a different domain/server/network) to allow users to register accounts on my central system. So, when the user takes an action on a client website, and that action is deemed to require an account, the client will produce a page (on their site/domain) where the user can register for a new account by providing an email and password. The client must then send this information to a web service, which will register the account and return some session token type value. The client will need to hash the password before sending it across the wire, and the webservice will require https, but this doesn't feel like it's safe enough and I need some advice on how I can implement this in the most secure way possible. A few other bits of relevant information: Ideally we'd prefer not to share any code with the client We've considered just redirecting the user to a secure page on the same server as the webservice, but this is likely to be rejected for non-technical reasons. We almost certainaly need to salt the password before hashing and passing it over, but that requires the client to either a) generate the salt and communicate it to us, or b) come and ask us for the salt - both feel dirty. Any help or advice is most appreciated.

• github team workflow - to fork or not?

  We're a small team of web developers currently using subversion but soon we're making a switch to github. I'm looking at different types of github workflows, and we're not sure if the whole forking concept in github for each developer is such a good idea for us. If we use forks, I understand each developer will have his own private remote & local repositories. I'm worried it will make pushing changesets hard and too complex. Also, my biggest concern is that it will force each developer to have 2 remotes: origin (which is the remote fork) and an upstream (which is used to "sync" changes from the main repository). Not sure if it's such a easy way to do things. This is similar to the workflow explained here: https://github.com/usm-data-analysis/usm-data-analysis.github.com/wiki/Git-workflow If we don't use forks, we can probably get by fine by using a central repo creating a branch for each task we're working on, and merge them into the development branch on the same repository. It means we won't be able to restrict merging of branches and might be a little messy to have many branches on the central repository. Any suggestions from teams who tried both workflow?

• Antenna Aligner Part 8: It's Alive!!!

  Finally the day has come, Antenna Aligner v1.0.1 has been uploaded to the AppStore and . "Waiting for review" .. . fast forward 7 days and much checking of emails later WOO HOO! Now what? So I set my facebook page to go live  https://www.facebook.com/AntennaAligner, and started by sending messages to my mates that have iphones! Amazingly a few of them bought it! Similarly some of my colleagues were also kind enough to support me and downloaded it too! Unfortunately the only way I knew they had bought is was from them telling me, as the iTunes connect data is only updated daily at about midday GMT. This is a shame, surely they could provide more granular updates throughout the day? Although I suppose once an app has been out in the wild for a while, daily updates are enough. It would, however, be nice to get a ping when you make your first sale! I would have expected more feedback on my facebook page as well, maybe I'm just expecting too much, or perhaps I've configured the page wrong. The new facebook timeline layout is just confusing, and I'm not sure it's all public, I'll check that! So please take a look and see what you think! I would love to get some more feedback/reviews/suggestions... Oh and watch out for the Android version coming soon!

• Oracle VM server for SPARC 2.2 on S11

  Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.2 has been released for a little while now. The https://blogs.oracle.com/virtualization blog has an overview of all the 2.2 features. Initially, what was released was the SVR4 package for Solaris 10 (which is unbundled and wasn't constrained by any external schedule). On Solaris 11, the 'ldomsmanager' package is built into Solaris (and therefore doesn't need to be downloaded separately) so it is delivered as part of an S11 Support Repository Update (SRU). Some of the features in 2.2 are specific to S11 (SR-IOV and the ability to live migrate between machines with different CPU types) and so there have been many requests to know when are the S11 bits coming. Solaris 11 SRU8.5 was released on Friday and this includes Oracle VM server for SPARC 2.2 so if you're already running an S11 SRU all you need do is a 'pkg update' to get the 2.2 bits. If you're still running the original S11 and your 'pkg publisher' output shows the /release repository then you'll need to sign up for the /support repo by getting the appropriate keys and certificates to access the repository (requires a support contract). Unlike some others, of course, complete source, complete changelog, complete checkin history, both mainline and our own available. No need to go assemble things from a website manually. Another cool thing coming up is a boot iso for OL6.3 that boots up uek (2.6.39-200.24.1) as install kernel and uses btrfs as the default filesystem for installation. So latest and greatest direct access to btrfs, a modern well-tested, current kernel, freely available. Enjoy. • Nvidia 740M still not working after Bumblebee installation

  first of all, I have checked a lot of similar topics, but I still can't get my laptop to use Nvidia 740M. So first things first. I have a laptop Asus X550V(i5-3230, 4gb RAM, Nvidia 740M + Intel HD4000). I installed Ubuntu 13.10 alongside Win8(preinstalled) and both systems are running without problems. However, I have problem with second graphic card(Nvidia 740M), as Ubuntu doesn't recognize it. I installed bumblebee with this tutorial https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Installation, but I still get error "Cannot access secondary GPU" error when trying to run ''optirun Steam'' in terminal. Then I tried to do this: [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) No devices detected. you need to edit the /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia (or /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nouveau if using the noveau driver) and specify the correct BusID by following the instructions therein. But with lspci / VGA i get only info about Intel 4000, but no Nvidia. When I type only lspci, I get the line for Nvidia 740M,but after I edit the config file I still get second card error. Also, in /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia there wasn't BusID or anything similar, so I just added the whole line in device section. As I sad, I tried a lot of things to get it working, avoiding this forum(as I din't want to bother people with some solutions possible), but alas!, I had to bother you. If there is a need for some additional info, just say, no problem at all. Thank you very much in advance. :)

• Title of the page in search results and title of google's cached version are different. Why?

  Check this: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:gunlawsbystate.com+kansas+gun+laws The title of the first result is "Kansas Gun Laws - Gun Laws By State". Although, on the page google has cached the title is different: <title>Kansas Gun Laws - Kansas Gun Law - Reciprocity Guide</title> Google shows the title that has been on the site 2-3 months ago. Google bot has visited the website a lot of times since that, and as you see it even cached it (the latest version is of 15th Sept), however for some reason it doesn't change the title to the new one in the search results. We use hash-bang URL structure on this website. It completely meets google's requirements for AJAX websites (_escaped_fragment_ stuff). The issue I explained is happening with almost all hash-bang pages that got indexed. Questions: Why does it keep old page title in the search results? Can it be connected to the fact that I'm using hash-bang URLs? There are lots of pages on the site that have the same issue, all of them have hash-bang URLs. Another thing I noticed is that Google's "Preview" feature doesn't work for any hash-bang URLs on the site. Did I do anything wrong? It has got cached versions of the pages, why wouldn't it generate a preview? Thanks (and sorry for my English) PS. Here's a weird thing I also noticed: this search query https://www.google.com/search?q=Kansas+Gun+Laws+-+Reciprocity+Guide shows the correct title for the same page as in the example above. Why does google show different titles for the same page when you run different queries?

• Run database checks but omit large tables or filegroups - New option in Ola Hallengren's Scripts

  One of the things I've always wanted in DBCC CHECKDB is the option to omit particular tables from the check. The situation that I often see is that companies with large databases often have only one or two very large tables. They want to run a DBCC CHECKDB on the database to check everything except those couple of tables due to time constraints. I posted a request on the Connect site about time some time ago: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/611164/dbcc-checkdb-omit-tables-option The workaround from the product team was that you could script out the checks that you did want to carry out, rather than omitting the ones that you didn't. I didn't overly like this as a workaround as clients often had a very large number of objects that they did want to check and only one or two that they didn't. I've always been impressed with the work that our buddy Ola Hallengren has done on his maintenance scripts. He pinged me recently about my old Connect item and said he was going to implement something similar. The good news is that it's available now.   Hi, I have a hp pavilion dm3t with intel HD graphics running ubuntu 10.10 64 bit.
