• Can't complete dropbox installation from behind proxy in Ubuntu 11.10

  Problem: My PC on campus sits behind a proxy (requiring authentication) and I can't setup Dropbox. I am convinced that this is a proxy issue as I can't setup Ubuntu one either (but I don't use Ubuntu One so that is not a problem). I have looked at the Ubuntu One fix but it seems to be to modify settings explicitly related to Ubuntu One. I can install the nautilus-dropbox package (compiled from source and from .deb package from website and from software centre) but once I click OK from the "Dropbox Installation" dialog box (prompting me to download the proprietary daemon) the installation just freezes with the OK button pressed. When I look at its process in System Monitor its waiting channel is inet_wait_for_connect. I have set the following proxy directives thus far: Added mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80 information to network proxy settings under network in settings. Added http_host and http_port variables under gconf-editor-system-proxy Added 'host', 'authentication_password' 'authentication_user' and ticked 'user authentication' and 'use_http_proxy' under gconf-editor-system-http_proxy Added export http_proxy="http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/" to /etc/bash.bashrc Added Acquire::http::proxy "http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/"; to /etc/apt/apt.conf (which is what I imagine is letting Software Center retrieve packages). (where ** is my password) I have also added the equivalent ftp and https lines for the above entries. I get the internet fine and Software Centre can download packages but thats it. Related issues: The software centre can't fetch reviews (but can download packages). When trying to add an online account in Gnome 3 a dialog pop up appears with "Error getting a Request Token: Cannot connect to proxy (proxy.waikato.ac.nz)" Updates: After some time (10mins ish) Dropbox shows an error dialog box that reads: Trouble connecting to Dropbox servers. Maybe your internet connection is down, or you need to set you http_proxy environment variable. Is there a way I can see what environment variables are currently set?

The OOW hands-on lab uses Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) and uses the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause to perform some basic pattern matching examples in SQL. This lab is broken down into four main steps: Logically partition and order the data that is used in the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause with its PARTITION BY and ORDER BY clauses. Define patterns of rows to seek using the PATTERN clause of the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause. These patterns use regular expressions syntax, a powerful and expressive feature, applied to the pattern variables you define. Specify the logical conditions required to map a row to a row pattern variable in the DEFINE clause. Define measures, which are expressions usable in the MEASURES clause of the SQL query. • Displaying possible movement tiles

  What's the fastest way to highlight all possible movement tiles for a player on a square grid? Players can only move up, down, left, right. Tiles can cost more than one movement, multiple levels are available to move, and players can be larger than one tile. Think of games like Fire Emblem, Front Mission, and XCOM. My first thought was to recursively search for connecting tiles. This quickly demonstrated many shortcomings when blockers, movement costs, and other features were added into the mix. My second thought was to use an A* pathfinding algorithm to check all tiles presumed valid. Presumed valid tiles would come from an algorithm that generates a diamond of tiles from the player's speed (see example here http://jsfiddle.net/truefreestyle/Suww8/9/). Problem is this seems a little slow and expensive. Is there a faster way? Edit: In Lua for Corona SDK, I integrated the following movement generation controller.   We are happy to announce that AutoVue for Agile 20.2.2 is now available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.   AutoVue for Agile 20.2.2 is a minor release within the 20.2 product family that is specifically targeted for users of Agile PLM 9. AutoVue 20.2.2 brings a number of improvements, including support for SolidWorks 2013, AutoCAD and Inventor 2014, SolidEdge ST5, and Cadence Allegro 16.6.   It also includes support for Adobe Illustrator CS4 and up.   Another improvement involves bringing our support for Oracle Linux and Java Virtual Machine versions in-line with Agile's support. Please see our previous post (https://blogs.oracle.com/enterprisevisualization/entry/autovue_20_2_2_is) for more details on the specifics introduced in AutoVue 20.2.2. • Browser privacy improvement implications for websites

  On https://panopticlick.eff.org/ EFF let you test the number of uniquely identifying bits that the browser gives a website. Among these are HTTP header fields such as User-Agent, Accept, Accept-Language and later perhaps ETAG and If-Modified-Since. Also there is a lot of Information that javascript can get from the browser such as time-zone, screen resolution, complete list of fonts and plugins available. My first impression is, is all this information really usable/used on a majority of all websites? For example, how many sites does really send different content-types depending on the http accept header, or what fonts are available(I thought css had taken care of this)? Let's say of these headers/js functionality on day would be gone. Which ones would; never be noticed they were gone? impact user experience? impact server performance? immediately reimplemented because the Internet cannot work without it? Extra credit for differentiating between what can be done, what should be done and what is done in most situations.

• double-click does not open the default program

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04, with texlive-full and texworks. When I double-click a .tex file in Nautilus, it pops up a Do you want to run "xxxxxxxx.tex", or display it contents? "xxxxxxxx.tex" is an executable text file. Run in Terminal Display Cancel Run If I choose Display, it opens texworks. How can I make it open without seeing the above conversation window? By the way, is .tex file indeed an executable file? ADDED Just for the case, my ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file looks like the following: [Default Applications] text/html=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/http=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/https=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/about=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/unknown=google-chrome.desktop text/x-tex=texworks.desktop x-scheme-handler/mailto=google-chrome.desktop [Added Associations] text/x-tex=texworks.desktop; text/x-bibtex=jabref.desktop;gedit.desktop; I observe texworks are both up and down. Should I remove one? ADDED This does not happen with all .tex files. In fact, I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 under Virtual Box with Windows 7 host. I have my Dropbox account synced with the Windows 7 host, and I access files in Dropbox in Ubuntu through Virtual Box's shared folder functionality. (I didn't install Dropbox client in Ubuntu.) Files in Dropbox are owned by root with group vboxsf. My personal account is in the group vboxsf. It seems that I have to uncheck the option for "executable", but I have all my .tex files in the Dropbox shared folder. Would there be any workaround?

• Dell Alps Touchpad not working

  I have a Dell 17R SE with Ubuntu 13.04. The touchpad is recognized as PS/2 mouse out of the box, giving just normal touchpad behaviour, but no tap to click, no scrolling, etc. Most answers related to that issue suggest trying an ALPS driver from dahetral.com: http://www.dahetral.com/public-download For installing I followed the steps on this page: https://www.linuxwind.org/html/dell-touchpad-driver-for-ubuntu-13-04.html Now my xinput looks like this: Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ? ? Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? PS/2 Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint id=14 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b id=16 [slave pointer (2)] My touchpad isn't working at all now, just the two hardware buttons for left and right mouse buttons work. Interestingly also the tap to click functions works, but only in the address bar of nautilus, nowhere (!) else. What can I do? I would even switch back to initial state, where at least the basic touchpad functionality worked, i I knew, how to get there.

• Domain changes required for SSL integration

  Currently my site supports regular payment options (User is taken to Payment Gateway/PG website). Now I'm trying to implement "seamless" PG integration. I need SSL for this. I'm having a dedicated server with 5 static IPs from Hostgator/HG. options: I take SSL for www.my_domain.com. According to HG, I need to change IP of main site as current IP is not really dedicated as it is being shared by cpanel etc. So They need to bind another dedicated IP to main domain for SSL to work. This would required DNS change for main website and hence cause few hours downtime (which is ok). I've noticed that most of the e-commerce websites are using subdomains like secure.my_domain.com for ssl/https. This sounds like a better approach. But I've got few doubts in this case: a) Would I need to re-register with existing PGs (Paypal, Google Checkout, Authorize.net) if I switch to subdomain? Re-registering is not an option for me. b) Would DNS change be required for www.my_domain.com in this case. This confusion arose because of following reply from HG : "If the sub domain secure.my_domain.com is added to an existing cPanel it will use the IP for that cPanel so as long as it is a Dedicated IP that will be fine. If secure.my_domain.com gets setup as its own cPanel it will need to be assigned to a Dedicated IP which would have a DNS change involved.". Please suggest?

  I recently bought the wonderfully looking and reviewed Amnesia The Dark Descent and I'm trying to install it. The first time I tried to download it, I had to stop in the middle of the download (may have broken something).   I sold my old laptop to neighbours and it was stolen from them. Well i think i have found thief so i want to check his computer id and compare it to my old Launchpad bugs id. How in Launchpad i can find from my bugs: Motherboard HDD Somthing else that can help identify it Maybe how to recover or find some overwritten files (couse now there is windows) I found in Launchpad one my bugs has LSPCI autogenerated from bug 682846 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/70611231/Lspci.txt but i dont see any id that can be used to identify specificly my comp. This can be used to identify many same models. Or i missed something in there? And what commands should i use to get all identification on that comp in one go fast? Just lspci? How to get same lspci as it is in that Launchpad link? Now testing laspci on my computer i dont get so much info. Also im now doing a search in my external hdd where i have many backups and maybe i have there result from lspci. So what containing keywords would help doing search with for small lspci and full reports ive done? I might have done sudo lshw somefilename

• AsyncBridge? Async on .NET 4.0 using VS11

  I've just found something quite cool. It's a code snippet that lets you use the real VS 11 C#5 compiler to write code that uses the async and await keywords, but to target .NET 4.0. It was published by Daniel Grunwald (from SharpDevelop).That means I can stop using the Async CTP for VS2010, which is not at all supported anymore, and a pain to install if you have windows updates turned on. Obviously I couldn't ask all my users to install .NET 4.5 beta, but .NET Demon is a VS 2010 extension, so we already have .NET 4.0. At the time of writing, VS11 is in beta still, but hopefully it's stable enough for my team to use!I would have written the code myself, but I had the wrong impression that the C# 5 beta compiler only looked in mscorlib for the helper classes it needs to implement async methods. Turns out you can provide them yourself. You can get the code here: https://gist.github.com/1961087You just add it to your project, and the compiler will apparently pick it up and use it to implement async/await. I'm at my parents' place for Easter without access to a machine with VS 11 to try it out. Let me know whether you get it to work!This reminds me of LINQBridge, which let us use C# 3 LINQ, but only require .NET 2. We should stick up a webpage to explain, with a nice easy dll, put it in nuget, and call it AsyncBridge.If you were really enthusiastic, you could re-implement the skeleton of the Task Parallel Library against .NET 2 to use async/await without even requiring .NET 4. Our usage stats suggest that practically everyone that uses Red Gate tools already has .NET 4 installed though, so I don't think I'll go to the effort.

• How to build Visual Studio Setup projects (.vdproj) with TFS 2010 Build ?

  Out of the box, Team Foundation Server 2010 Build does not support building of setup projects (.vdproj). Although, you can modify DefaultTemplate.xaml or create your own in order to achieve this. I had to try bunch of different blog post's and finally got it working with a mixture of all those posts.   Since you don’t have to go through this pain again, I have uploaded the Template which you can use right away : https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=65B2671F6B93CDE9!310 Download and CheckIn this template into your source control. Modify your Build Definition to use this template. Unless you have CheckedIn the template, it wont show up in the template selection section in the process task of build definition. In your Visual Studio Solution Configuration Manager, make sure you specify to build the setup project also. You might get this warning in your build result: “The project file “*.vdproj” is not support by MSBuild and cannot be build. Hope it helps.   When booting my laptop, it will try to connect to my wireless network, however a window keeps popping up asking me for my security password, which has already been saved. I have to keep deleting my network settings, and reconnecting, otherwise it keeps failing to connect. My wireless is set up with a WPA, I do not want to lower my security because of this, but it is a pain and can take me 15mins plus to finally connect. The problem has only become apparent since a fresh install of 11.10. IPV6 disabled.   If you have an MSDN account and, like me, systematically claim keys just as well as you systematically forget which keys you’ve used in which test environments! Well, in a meager attempt to help myself track my keys I created an importer for KeePass 2 that takes in the XML document that you can export from MSDN and TechNet. The source is available at https://github.com/svickn/MicrosoftKeyImporterPlugin.   How do I get my KeysExport.xml from MSDN or TechNet? Easy! First, in MSDN, go to your product keys. From there, at the top right select Export to XML. This will let you download an XML file full of your Microsoft Keys.   How do I import it into KeePass 2? The instructions are simple and available in the GitHub ReadMe.md, so I won’t repeat them. Here is a screenshot of what the imported result looks like:   As you can see, the import process creates a group called Microsoft Product Keys and creates a subgroup for each product. The individual entries each represent an individual key, stored in the password field. The importer decides if a key is new based on the key stored in the password, so you can edit the notes or title for the individual entries however you please without worrying about them being overwritten or duplicated if you re-import an updated KeysExport.xml from MSDN! • Accessing second hard drive

  Hi, So I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on my computer. I installed it on my 60gb SSD hard drive, and in the installation it never acknowledged the existence of my second hard drive. The hard drive that I keep all my files on, and which I want to make my home folder if I can, is a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB cache (WD1002FAEX). I've read the following: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount but honestly cannot work out how to access the hard drive from my Ubuntu installation. I did have Windows 7 64-bit prior to installing Ubuntu. I have backed up all the files on the hard drive, but if I could just access them straight off that would be super cool. Does anyone know how I can use the second hard drive? • How do I get an application to appear as a choice in update-alternatives?

  I separately installed the Firefox Beta and Alpha channels, and have desktop configuration files pointing to them in ~/.local/share/applications. However, stable Firefox is being used as my default browser by the system. (Firefox Beta used to be used until I messed with the "Default Applications" in System Settings, where it is not listed.) I tried running sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser to manually change it, but it's only recognizing Chromium and Firefox (stable) and showing them as a choice. What can I do to get custom desktop configuration files in ~/.local/share/applications to be seen as default alternatives? I think I may have to fiddle with the desktop config files, or with mimeinfo.cache or mimeapps.list? Running Oneiric.   I am running Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit client as Dom0 and Xen. I am having problems getting java up and running. Java itself seems to work fine, however I get strange errors, for example when I start javaws. I tried different versions and always get the same errors. I tried openjdk 1.6 and 1.7 as well as sunjava6 and 7. I alway get an error in the same lib All other applications are working fine, so it seems ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 is working fine. Any hints what could be wrong? • What is the the maximum time for a user to return to Google for the visit to be flagged up as a bounce in GA?

  I know that Google measures bounce rates by how fast a user returns to the results page after clicking-through to a website. Roughly what is the maximum duration of the visit for the user to then return for it to be considered a bounce? i.e. <5 seconds, <30 seconds? I'm mainly interested as it appears a lot of users clicking through my PPC adverts (Adwords) are bouncing, despite my ads having a high quality score and the page's being entirely related to the adverts copy and at as best tied to what I think user's may be searching for from the key phrases I've selected so the high bounce rate (100% on some keywords) seems a bit strange. If a bounce isn't determined by time, but simply whether a user returns to the SERP after visiting my site or not after any amount of time that would make more sense but the average duration of visit for my keywords with a 100% bounce rate in GA is 00:00:00, which suggests a user immediately returned to the SERPs, which again, is odd. Is my GA data being skewed by https or anything like that? Scratching my head here.
