  • Global NSMutableArray doesn't seem to be holding values

    - by diatrevolo
    I have a Cocos2D iPhone application that requires a set of CGRects overlaid on an image to detect touches within them. "Data" below is a class that holds values parsed from an XML file. "delegateEntries" is a NSMutableArray that contains several "data" objects, pulled from another NSMutableArray called "entries" that lives in the application delegate. For some strange reason, I can get at these values without problems in the init function, but further down the class in question, I try to get at these values, and the application crashes without an error message (as an example, I put in the "ccTouchBegan" method which accessess this data through the "populateFieldsForTouchedItem" method. Can anyone see why these values would not be accessible from other methods? No objects get released until dealloc. Thanks in advance! @synthesize clicked, delegate, data, image, blurImage, normalImage, arrayOfRects, delegateEntries; - (id)initWithTexture:(CCTexture2D *)aTexture { if( (self=[super initWithTexture:aTexture] )) { arrayOfRects = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; delegateEntries = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; delegate = (InteractivePIAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; delegateEntries = [delegate entries]; data = [delegateEntries objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"Assigning %@", [[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:0] backgroundImage]); NSLog(@"%@ is the string", [[data sections] objectAtIndex:0]); //CGRect rect; NSLog(@"Count of array is %i", [delegateEntries count]); //collect as many items as there are XML entries for(int i=0; i<[delegateEntries count]; i++) { if([[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:i] xPos]) { NSLog(@"Found %i items", i+1); [arrayOfRects addObject:[NSValue valueWithCGRect:CGRectMake([[[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:i] xPos] floatValue], [[[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:i] yPos] floatValue], [[[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:i] xBounds] floatValue], [[[delegateEntries objectAtIndex:i] yBounds] floatValue])]]; } else { NSLog(@"Nothing"); } } //remove the following once the NSMutableArray from above works (legacy) blurImage = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[data backgroundBlur]]; NSLog(@"5"); normalImage = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[data backgroundImage]]; clicked = NO; } return self; } And then: - (void)populateFieldsForTouchedItem:(TouchedRect)touchInfo { Data *touchDatum = [[Data alloc] init]; touchDatum = [[self delegateEntries] objectAtIndex:touchInfo.recordNumber]; NSLog(@"Assigning %@", [[[self delegateEntries] objectAtIndex:touchInfo.recordNumber] backgroundImage]); rect = [[arrayOfRects objectAtIndex:touchInfo.recordNumber] CGRectValue]; image = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[[touchDatum sections] objectAtIndex:0]]; [touchDatum release]; } - (BOOL)ccTouchBegan:(UITouch *)touch withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { TouchedRect touchInfo = [self containsTouchLocation:touch]; NSLog(@"Information pertains to %i", touchInfo.recordNumber); if ( !touchInfo.touched && !clicked ) { //needed since the touch location changes when zoomed NSLog(@"NOPE"); return NO; } [self populateFieldsForTouchedItem:touchInfo]; NSLog(@"YEP"); return YES; }

  • Doxygen including methods twice doc files

    - by Maarek
    I'm having this issue where doxygen is adding the method twice in the documentation file. Is there a setting that stops auto-generation of documentation for methods within the .m file. For example in the documentation I'll see something like whats below where the first definition of + (Status *)registerUser is from the header XXXXXX.h file where the second is from XXXXXX.m. Header documentation : /** @brief Test Yada Yada @return <#(description)#> */ + (Status *)registerUser; Output: + (Status *) registerUser Test Yada Yada. Returns: <#(description)#> + (Status *) registerUser <#(brief description)#> <#(comprehensive description)#> registerUser Returns: <#(description)#> Definition at line 24 of file XXXXXX.m. Here are the build related configuration options. I've tried playing with them. EXTRACT_ALL with YES and NO... • Is the scope of what Xcode's "Build and Analyze" will catch as a leak supposed to be this limited?

    - by Ranking Stackingblocks
    It doesn't care about this: NSString* leaker() { return [[NSString alloc] init]; } I thought it would have been smart enough to check if any code paths could call that function without releasing its return value (I wouldn't normally code this way, I'm just testing the analyzer). It reports this as a leak: NSString* leaker() { NSString* s = [[NSString alloc] init]; [s retain]; return s; } but NOT this: NSString* leaker() { NSString* s = [[NSString alloc] init]; // [s retain]; return s; } which seems particularly weak to me. Does it only analyze within the local scope? If the tool can't pick up on things like this, how can I expect it to pick up on actual mistakes that I might make?

  • Minimum and maximum Date in date Picker in iphone

    - by Iphony
    I want to get minimum and maximum date from date picker but minimum date should be "- 18" of current date and maximum date should be "- 100" of current date. Suppose current year is 2018 then I want minimum date 2000 and maximum date 1918. what I have done so far is : NSCalendar *gregorian = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSGregorianCalendar]; NSDateComponents *components = [gregorian components:NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate:[NSDate date]]; NSInteger year = [components year]; int mindt = year - 18; int maxdt = year -100; // NSDate * MinDate = [components year] - 18; // NSDate * MaxDate = [components year] - 100; // self.datePicker.minimumDate = MinDate; // self.datePicker.maximumDate = MaxDate; but I cant get this integer to my date formate.. pls suggest any way ...

  • How to fetch managed objects sorted by calculated value

    - by Marcin Zbijowski
    Hello, I'm working on the app that uses CoreData. There is location entity that holds latitude and longitude values. I'd like to fetch those entities sorted by distance to the user's location. I tried to set sort descriptor to distance formula sqrt ((x1 - x2)^2 + (y1 - y2)^2) but it fails with exception "... keypath ... not found in entity". NSString *distanceFormula = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"sqrt(((latitude - %f) * (latitude - %f)) + ((longitude - %f) * (longitude - %f)))", location.coordinate.latitude, location.coordinate.latitude, location.coordinate.longitude, location.coordinate.longitude]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:distanceFormula ascending:YES]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:sortDescriptor]]; NSError *error; NSArray *result = [[self managedObjectContext] executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; I'd like to fetch already sorted objects rather then fetch them all and then sort in the code. Any tips appreciated.

  • Does Quartz2D test intersection of rect by line before drawing it.

    - by ddnv
    I'm drawing a big scheme that consist of a lot of lines. I do it in the drawRect: method of UIView. The scheme is larger than the layer of view and I check each line and draw it only if it intersects the visible rect. But at one moment I thought, should I do this? Maybe Quartz is already doing this test? So the question is: When I use function CGContextAddLineToPoint() does the Core Graphics tests this line for intersection with layer rect or it just draw it anyway?

  • Cast value from NSNotification's object

    - by E-Madd
    How can I cast the object in a NSNotification to an integer and to a string? When I log the notification to the console I get... NSConcreteNotification 0x20af70 {name = kMessageCountNotification; object = 1} But when I set the text value of a UILabel to that value, I get 72855952

  • COCOA: Programatically creating new windows and accessing window objects

    - by Jeffrey Kern
    I'm having an issue with creating new windows in Cocoa. Hypothetically speaking, lets say I have "WindowA" and has a button called "myButton". When you click on "myButton", it runs this code in the following class file: -(void)openFile2:(id)sender { myNextWindow = [[TestWindowController alloc] initWithWindowNibName:@"MainMenu"]; NSString *testString = @"foo"; [myNextWindow showWindow:self]; [myNextWindow setButtonText:testString]; } The code in a nutshell makes a duplicate "WindowA" and shows it. As you can see, this code also runs a method called 'setButtonText', which is this: - (void)setButtonText:(NSString *)passedText { [myButton setTitle:passedText]; } The problem is that when I call this method locally, in the original window - the button text changes (e.g., [self setButtonText:testString]) it works. However, it does not work in the newly created window (e.g., [myNextWindow setButtonText:testString];) When I debug the newly created window, step by step, the 'myButton' value it gives is 0x0. Do I have to manually assign controllers/delegates to the new window? I think the 'myButton' in the code isn't associated to the 'myButton' in the newly created window. How would I fix this problem?

  • Remove only first instance of a character from a list of characters

    - by Luke
    Hi All, Here's what I want to do. I have 2 strings and I want to determine if one string is a permutation of another. I was thinking to simply remove the characters from string A from string B to determine if any characters are left. If no, then it passes. However, I need to make sure that only 1 instance of each letter is removed (not all occurrences) unless there are multiple letters in the word. An example: String A: cant String B: connect Result: -o-nec- Experimenting with NSString and NSScanner has yielded no results so far.

  • image is not getting loaded in view.

    - by anurag
    I have created 2 views named "FirstView" and "SecondView".SecondView's nib file has an UIImage view object as its IBOtlet.Now I am getting an UIImage object from some FirstViewController's method.Now I am setting the SecondViewController's imageView property with that image and then I am pushing my SecondView Controller's object in Navigation Controller.The SecondView gets loaded but that image is not shown in that view. The code is as follows:..... - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)img editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)editInfo { [[picker parentViewController] dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; SecondViewController *secondView=[[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; secondView.imageView.image=img; [self.navigationController pushViewController:secondView animated:YES]; }

  • Animation on single UIWebView

    - by Shri
    I have searched quite a bit(sample one, Sample two) but cant seem to get the correct answer. I have a webview on my XYZ view controller class. When i press on a button, it takes an URL from an array and re-loads the same webview. Now I need to do the flip book animation on it. Same webview should be reloaded. That is the webview should rotate around its own axis 180/360 degree while the loading of next url is going on. Is this possible?

  • PDF search on the iPhone

    - by pt2ph8
    After two days trying to read annotations from a PDF using Quartz, I've managed to do it and posted my code. Now I'd like to do the same for another frequently asked question: searching PDF documents with Quartz. Same situation as before, this question has been asked many times with almost no practical answers. So I need some pointers first, as I still haven't implemented this myself. What I tried: I tried using CGPDFScannerScan handling the TJ and Tj operators - returns the right text on some PDF, whereas on other documents it returns mostly random letters. Maybe it's related to text encoding? Someone pointed out that text blocks (marked by BT/ET operators) should be handled instead, but I still haven't managed to do so. Anyone managed to extract text from any PDF? After that, searching should be easy by storing all the text in a NSMutableString and using rangeOfString (if there's a better way please let me know). But then how to highlight the result? I know there are a few operators to find the glyph sizes, so I could calculate the resulting rect based on those values, but I've been reading the spec for hours... it's a bloated mess and I'm going insane. Anyone with a practical explanation? Thanks.

  • Help with a loop to return UIImage from possible matches

    - by Canada Dev
    I am parsing a list of locations and would like to return a UIImage with a flag based on these locations. I have a string with the location. This can be many different locations and I would like to search this string for possible matches in an NSArray, and when there's a match, it should find the appropriate filename in an NSDictionary. Here's an example of the NSDictionary and NSArray: NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"franceFlag", @"france", @"greeceFlag", @"greece", @"spainFlag", @"spain", @"norwayFlag", @"norway", nil]; NSArray *array = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: @"france" @"greece" @"spain" @"portugal" @"ireland" @"norway", nil]; Obviously I'll have a lot more countries and flags in both. Here's what I have got to so far: -(UIImage *)flagFromOrigin:(NSString *)locationString { NSRange range; for (NSString *arrayString in countryArray) { range = [locationString rangeOfString:arrayString]; if (range.location != NSNotFound) { return [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[dictionary objectForKey: arrayString] ofType:@"png"]]; } } return nil; } Now, the above doesn't actually work. I am missing something (and perhaps not even doing it right in the first place) The issue is, the locationString could have several locations in the same country, described something like this "Barcelona, Spain", "Madrid, Spain", "North Spain", etc., but I just want to retrieve "Spain" in this case. (Also, notice caps for each country). Basically, I want to search the locationString I pass into the method for a possible match with one of the countries listed in the NSArray. If/When one is found, it should continue into the NSDictionary and grab the appropriate flag based on the correct matched string from the array. I believe the best way would then to take the string from the array, as this would be a stripped-out version of the location. Any help to point me in the right direction for the last bit is greatly appreciated.

  • iOS - Open an app with a URL Scheme from Chrome

    - by Brett
    I've read many many blogs and examples of how to open an app from an URL scheme (for example, this blog), and it seems to work great when I call my app from mobile safari. For instance, when I call testapp://some.data.here in mobile safari, it opens my testapp and I can parse out the some.data.here. However, when I call testapp://some.data.here in iOS-Chrome, it just googles the term instead of calling the app. Is there a way to have iOS Chrome recognize the URL as a registered app the way mobile safari does? When I google this topic, I see a lot of comments on how to open a url in chrome from an app, but not the other way around. Has anyone encountered this? Thanks!

  • Looping the layout that was set up in Interface Builder

    - by Slavenko
    I just need for someone to point me in the right direction of how I should be doing things. I wanted to make an iOS news like app that would have interface resembling Windows Phone. Large and small image tiles that represent one news item each. Now I was thinking to create some basic layout in storyboard, that would consist out of, for example, a title, and a 3 different sized tiles/images (the gray part on the attached image). Now, I would be getting the data as a JSON array that has holds different news categories so I was wondering if somehow the set up layout could be reused in a for loop since the layout will only repeat itself (the red part on the attached image) and oly the data would be different. Can this be done, should I even try doing something like this, or should I try to create an entire layout programmatically? I wouldn't mind doing it programatically, it's just that I don't have much experience in creating layouts that way, and wanted to make sure that I don't do something that I might regret later. Thank you for any help and advice.

  • Simple Obj-C Memory Management Question

    - by yar
    This is from some sample code from a book // On launch, create a basic window - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { UIWindow *window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:[[HelloController alloc] init]]; [window addSubview:nav.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } But a release is never called for window nor for nav. Release should be called since alloc was called, right? If #1 is right, then I would need to store a reference to each of these in an instance variable in order to release them in the dealloc? Perhaps I'm wrong all around...

Is this the right manner to change its image (i do it several times during the game) ? Thanks for your ideas

  • Setting UITabBarItem title from UINavigationController?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I have setup a UITabBarController with two tabs, one is a simple UIViewController and the other is a UINavigationController using second UIViewController as its rootController to set up a UITableView. My question is with regard to naming the tabs (i.e. UITabBarItem) For the first tab (simple UIViewController) I have added the following (see below) to the controllers -init method. - (id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { UITabBarItem *tabBarItem = [self tabBarItem]; [tabBarItem setTitle:@"ONE"]; } return self; } For the other tab I have added (see below) to the second controllers init (rootController). - (id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { UITabBarItem *tabBarItem = [[self navigationController] tabBarItem]; [tabBarItem setTitle:@"TWO"]; } return self; } Am I setting the second tabBarItem title in the right place as currently it is not showing? EDIT: I can correctly set the UITabBarItem from within the AppDelegate when I first create the controllers, ready for adding to the UITabBarController. But I really wanted to do this in the individual controller -init methods for neatness. // UITabBarController UITabBarController *tempRoot = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; [self setRootController:tempRoot]; [tempRoot release]; NSMutableArray *tabBarControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // UIViewController ONE MapController *mapController = [[MapController alloc] init]; [tabBarControllers addObject:mapController]; [mapController release]; // UITableView TWO TableController *rootTableController = [[TableController alloc] init]; UINavigationController *tempNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:rootTableController]; [rootTableController release]; [tabBarControllers addObject:tempNavController]; [tempNavController release]; [rootController setViewControllers:tabBarControllers]; [tabBarControllers release]; [window addSubview:[rootController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible];

  • Save list of CGPoints using NSUserDefaults

    - by Chris Daviduik
    I have a bunch of CGPoints from a CCTMXLayer I want to save to NSUserDefaults but cannot seem to figure out an elegant way of doing so. Originally I was hoping to save an NSDictionary with an NSMutableSet for a value containing several NSValues (valueWithCGPoint). From what I can tell neither NSMutableSet or NSValue is supported by NSUserDefaults. At this point I am considering saving the x&y values of the CGPoint as a string and just converting it back and forth as needed.
