• VS2010 patce: why it's take so muce time to install it?

  Visual Studio 2010 RC has a few of patches release. For more information about them take a look here. What I'm expect from patch program, is to replace a few dll's of the program to a new fixed version of them. But when I run each of this 3 patches, they take a lot of time (5 minutes each), and you think that the program was frozen because the progress bar stay on the begging. This is question may not be so important, but it really interesting me to know, why this happens? It's really confusing to see that each VS2010 (or Microsoft in general) is frozen to 4-5 minutes.

  Suppose I have a user defined type: CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE TEST_TYPE AS OBJECT ( f1 varchar2(10), f2 number(5) ); Now, I want to create a table to hold these types. I can do the following: create table test_type_table ( test_type_field test_type ); This gives me a table with one column, test_type_field. Is there an easy and automated way to instead create a table such that it has 2 columns, f1 and f2?. So that it's the equivilent to writing: create table test_type_table ( f1 varchar2(10), f2 number(5) );

• Rails: translations for table's column.

  In rails application I have two models: Food and Drink. Both food and drink have a name, which has to be stored in two languages. How do I better realize translations for theese tables? First solution I realized was to replace name column with name_en and name_ru. Another solution is to encode with YAML hash like { :en => 'eng', :ru => 'rus' } and store yaml as a name. What would you recommend, assuming content is not static? Maybe there's good article?

  I'm following the tips here, trying to leverage the statement that the sql doesn't get created until the enumerator is tripped. However I get the following error on the code below. I'm using Linq2Entities, not linq2sql. Is there a way to do this in Linq2entities? • SSMS Results to Grid - CRLF not preserved in copy/paste - any better techniques?

  When I have a result set in the grid like: SELECT 'line 1 line 2 line 3' or SELECT 'line 1' + CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) + 'line 2' + CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) + 'line 3' With embedded CRLF, the display in the grid appears to replace them with spaces (I guess so that they will display all the data). The problem is that if I am code-generating a script, I cannot simply cut and paste this. I have to convert the code to open a cursor and print the relevant columns so that I can copy and paste them from the text results. Is there any simpler workaround to preserve the CRLF in a copy/paste operation from the results grid? The reason that the grid is helpful is that I am currently generating a number of scripts for the same object in different columns - a bcp out in one column, an xml format file in another, a table create script in another, etc...

  I try to do it in the following way: public String getValue(String service, String parameter) { String inputKey = service + ":" + parameter; Set keys = name2value.keySet(); Iterator itr = keys.iterator(); while (itr.hasNext()) { if (inputKey.equal(itr.next())) { return name2value.get(inputKey); } return ""; } } And I get an error message: cannot find symbol method.equal(java.lang.Object). I think it is because itr.next() is not considered as a string. How can I solve this problem? I tried to replace Set keys by Set<String> keys. It did not help.

C# 3.0 doesn't just stop there." Should we increasingly use them instead of loops? And should be having loops(instead of those three building blocks of data manipulation) be one of the metrics for coding horrors on code reviews? And why? [NOTE] I'm not advocating fully functional programming on those codes that could be simply translated to loops(e.g. tail recursions) Asking for politer term. Considering that the phrase "code smell" is not so diplomatic, I posted another question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/432492/whats-the-politer-word-for-code-smell about the right word for "code smell", er.. utterly bad code. Should that phrase have a place in our programming parlance?

• Escape characters during paste in vim

  I copy stuff from output buffers into C++ code I'm working on in vim. Often this output gets stuck into strings. And it'd be nice to be able to escape all the control characters automatically rather than going back and hand editing the pasted fragment. As an example I might copy something like this: error in file "foo.dat" And need to put it into something like this std::string expected_error = "error in file \"foo.dat\"" I'm thinking it might be possible to apply a replace function to the body of the last paste using the start and end marks of the last paste, but I'm not sure how to make it fly.

• shared libraries creating a soft link

  Hello, Redhat 5.5 gcc version 4.1.2 I have a directory call lib, and in that directory I have all the shared libraries (about 30) that we get from our customer as we use their API. We link with this API. directory structure: /usr/CSAPI/lib However, our customer will update their API so we get new libraries, normally about 3 or 4. What I have been doing is when I get new libraries. Is to remove the old one and put in another directory. And replace them with the new libaries in the lib directory. /usr/CSAPI/Old_libs The new and old will have the same name. i.e. libcs.so < old libcs.so < new Is there a better way to manage this? I was thinking of creating a soft line, but as the names are the same, I am not sure that this will work. Many thanks,

  Hello! I am trying to wrap an environment created with \NewEnviron (package 'environ') into an old good \newenvironment: \NewEnviron{test}{aaa(\BODY)bbb} \newenvironment{wrapper}{\begin{test}}{\end{test}} \begin{wrapper} debug me \end{wrapper} However, this gives me a strange error: LaTeX Error: \begin{test} on input line 15 ended by \end{wrapper}. LaTeX Error: \begin{wrapper} on input line 15 ended by \end{document}. If I replace \NewEnviron{test}{aaa(\BODY)bbb} with \newenvironment{test}{aaa(}{)bbb} — everything works as expected! It seems like \NewEnviron fails to find its end for some reason. I'm trying to do some magic with 'floatfig' wrapped into a \colorbox so I need a way to convert \colorbox to an environment and wrap it into another one. I can define a new command but it's not a very good idea. Thanks in advance!

  I get the following text as a string from an XML-based REST API 'd':4 'ca':5 'sen':1 'diann':2,6,8 'feinstein':3,7,9 that I'm looking to deserialize into a pretty little Python dictionary: { 'd': [4], 'ca': [5], 'sen': [1], 'diann': [2, 6, 8], 'feinstein': [3, 7, 9] } I'm hoping to avoid using regular expressions or heavy string manipulation, as this format isn't documented and may change. The best I've been able to come up with: members = {} for m in elem.text.split(' '): m = m.split(':') members[m[0].replace("'", '')] = map(int, m[1].split(',')) return members Obviously a terrible approach, but it works, and that's better than anything else I've got right now. Any suggestions on better approaches?

The problem is the id is not recognized in the format it is. / seems to not be picked up yet when i replace '/' with '-' it works. daysRow.AppendFormat("<td id='{0}/{1}'>{0}</td>", day, d1.Month.ToString()); can anyone tell me how to format this please. '/' forward slash in c#.

• Why does sorl.thumbnail ImageField fail in the admin?

  I have code that looks like this: from sorl.thumbnail import ImageField class Gallery(models.Model): pass class GalleryImage(models.Model): image = ImageField(upload_to='galleries') In the admin: class GalleryImageInline(admin.TabularInline): model = GalleryImage class GalleryAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): inlines = (GalleryImageInline,) If I use the sorl.thumbnail as above, it is impossible to add images in the admin. I get the validation error Enter a list of values. If I replace the sorl.thumbnail.ImageField with a plain django ImageField, everything works. If I want sorl.thumbnail to clean up the cache thumbnails, I need to use it in the model, but if I use it in the model, I can't seem to add any images to need thumbnails. Anyone else found and fixed this problem yet?

  I use an API that expects a SQL string. I take a user input, escape it and pass it along to the API. The user input is quiet simple. It asks for column values. Like so: string name = userInput.Value; Then I construct a SQL query: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", name.replace("'", "''")); Is this safe enough? If it isn't, is there a simple library function that make column values safe: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", SqlSafeColumnValue(name)); The API uses SQLServer as the database. Ideas I've thought of, but don't like: I could make d an object and cast at runtype based on type, but this strikes me as not being ideal; it removes a type check which was previously happening at compile time. I could also write a private helper class that takes an object and write both signatures as public functions. I could replace dostuff and dostuff2 with delegates or function calls or something.

• Can't access dojo object property using string variable

  I am retrieving a json associative array using a dojo xhrGet request. The data comes back just fine, however I need the app to be able to display the keys and their properties (or values) without knowing the keys beforehand. So, I do the following: function getData() { dojo.xhrGet( { url: "ytd_process.php", handleAs: "json", load: function(response) { for (var key in response) { dojo.byId("boxes").innerHTML+="<div id=\"box\">"+key+":"+response.key+"</div>"; } console.dir(response); // Dump it to the console } }); }; The keys are retrieved and displayed on the page, but the response.key returns undefined. I know the syntax is correct because if I replace .key with an actual key value it will display correctly. It appears it doesn't like a string as the key. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  We need to render an ActionResult to a string to add pages to our internal search engine index. We settled on this solution to render to string. I've run into a problem with the ExecuteResult call used to process the View. Code Snippet: var oldController = controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"]; controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"] = typeof(TController).Name.Replace("Controller", ""); viewResult.ExecuteResult(controllerContext); // this line breaks I receive the following error: "Object reference not set to instance of object" error. I've confirmed viewResult is not null, so the exception has to be thrown internally in ExecuteResult. What could we be missing?

• XMLHttpRequest error in IE, works without issue in Chrome/FF

I've been doing plenty of searches to try and find what may be the issue, but by all accounts ive read, the code ive posted above should work. i havent used jquery for AJAX, but ive seen it recommended when others have had issues with httprequest objects. could i just replace the mess above with a couple lines of jquery and assume that it will take care of IE's ugliness?   Hi, I have the following line of code: <%= Html.Label((string) GetLocalResourceObject("Label_Email")) %> This generates a label within an HTML page. In the local resource file I have the following entry: Name: Label_Email Value:Email For some very strange reason when I load the page in the browser, it generates an HTML label with a value of "Email Address" instead of "Email". This is a serious problem for me because I need to localize the application and not have english word "address". When I replace Value in the local resouce file with "Email " (notice extra space), everything works fine, but this is a hack and I need to understand why my application is behaving this way.   Does anyone know how to replace the IBM JSF Portlet Bridge with Myfaces Portlet Bridge 2.0? I want to set up a small local testing environment. Pluto + Tomcat + Myfaces Portlet Bridge. My Portlets are on JSF 1.1, but it should be possible to use JSF 1.2 Implementation!? Target is that a developed portlet(some old portlets use ibm jsf extended components) work on websphere portal and pluto without changes. I managed with maven profiles to get a small portlet with ibm jsf components to work in pluto, but i dont get it to work in websphere portal... Does anyone have experiences with that issue?

• Matrix multiplication in java (RE-POST)

  Apologies for the re-post; the earlier time I'd posted I did not have all the details. My colleague, who quit the firm was a C# programmer, was forced to write Java code that involved (large, dense) matrix multiplication. He's coded his own DataTable class in Java, in order to be able to a) create indexes to sort and join with other DataTables b) do matrix multiplication. The code in its current form is NOT maintainable/extensible. I want to clean up the code, and thought using something like R within Java will help me focus on business logic rather than sorting, joining, matrix multiplication, etc. Plus, I'm very new to the concept of DataTable; I just want to replace the DataTable with 2D arrays, and let R handle the rest. (I currently do not know how to join 2 large datasets in java very efficiently Please let me know what you think. Also, are there any simple examples that I can take a look at?

  I am tidying the html page by html tidy pack because there are some pages with missing ending tags So I can add the missing closing tags by html agility pack. But some times when I use the html tidy pack then that web page has changes like : If original table is <table><tr><td>first row</td></table> After using html tidy pack the table is : <table> is now &lt table &gt. But I want like <table>. In this particular example it works perfectly but in some html page it replace &lt instead of <and &gt instead of >.
