• ASP.NET MVC: Is it "wrong" to use HTTP 500 via an AJAX request to return invalid form content?

  Here's the situation: I've got two partial views. One has a form. What needs to happen is when the form is posted via an AJAX request, if the operation succeeds, the area with the second partial is repopulated with the content. However, if the posted data was invalid, the original partial is repopulated with an error message. I'm using jQuery and the ajaxForm plugin to handle the form posts and responses. Would it be "wrong"/bad coding/wtf-worthy to conditionally use $.html() to replace the content in one area when it's a 200, and a different area if it's a 500? To me, this idea smells, but I'm not sure how else to accomplish the goal.

• Howto format a date as localized Short MonthDay string

  I would like to format a DateTime to a string containing the month name abbreviated and the date for use in axislabels in a graph. The default DateTime format strings do not contain abbreviated month. I guess there is no standard but I could take a substring of the first 3 characters of the month name and replace this into the MonthDay format. As far as I can tell, they work ok, but I need some reassurance/advice on whether there are some problems I might be missing. • Installing unsigned x64 driver to work with libusbdotnet

  Hi all- I am currently in a Windows 7 dev. environment working to get a device to initialize with libusbdotnet. The device (a USB mass storage device) connects and runs using the default USB-MASS Storage driver for Windows. I want to replace this driver with the one created by the .INF Wizard in libusbdotnet. The operating system is a 64-bit, and by default the INF Wizard produces this driver, but I am unable to selected it because it is "unsigned" I believed, when I go to "Pick from a list of drivers" and point to the directory where the newly created device drivers are. I have enabled "TEST MODE" using DESO but I'm still unable to select this file. Anyone familiar with libusbdotnet, or directing devices to work with a specific driver that is unsigned in Window (do I need the .inf file? or the .sys???) do you have any advice about where I'm going wrong? Thanks!

  I have to admit that I'm new to Java and Android. db4o seems to be an excellent DB framework to replace SQLite http://developer.db4o.com/Platforms/Java/Android.aspx. I want to use it for my Android application. I don't know how to: Import/Install/Attach/Upload db4o to Android phone. • Regex question: Why isn't this matching?

  I have the following regex: (?<=\.\d+?)0+(?=\D|$) I'm running it against a string which contains the following: SVC~NU^0270~313.3~329.18~~10~~6.00: When it runs, it matches the 6.00 (correctly) which my logic then trims by one zero to turn into 6.0. The regex then runs again (or should) but fails to pick up the 6.0. I'm by no means an expert on Regex, but my understanding of my expression is that it's looking for a decimal with 1 or more optional (so, really zero or more) digits prior to one or more zeros which are then followed by any non-digit character or the line break. Assuming that interpretation is correct, I can't see why it wouldn't match on the second pass. For that matter, I'm not sure why my Regex.Replace isn't matching the full 6.00 on the first pass and removing both of the trailing zeros... Any suggestions?

• Replacing xcode with macports software

  I have been trying to replace everything in xcode with stuff I can get from macports. So far, I installed xcode, then macports, then used macports to install gcc, gcc_select, gmake, elf-bintools, bintools, arm-bintools (just to be sure I replaced all the bintools), and then uninstalled all of xcode. I then linked /usr/bin/make with /opt/local/bin/gmake and used gcc_select to select gcc44--the one from macports. I also exported all the bintool executable paths into the .profile path. I was sure this would work (although I should have known better after working on it for 48 hours straight), but nothing will configure, and the log files all have the common error: :info:configure configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables I have a feeling it has something to do with libraries, but I am really not sure. I use a mac 10.5.8. If this is truely 'impossible', what parts of xcode to I need for macports to work? For example, I can uninstall the xcode folder without a problem.

  Hi, in the Winsock2 library getaddrinfo() and freeaddrinfo() was only added in Windows XP and on. I know how to replace them in legacy systems, but a conditional use depending on the Windows version won't help. The application won't start in 9x with a message saying that it was linked to a missing export in WS2_32.dll. I'm using MinGW to compile and link the code and would like to keep using it. Maybe writing those functions by myself? Thank you very much for everything.

  Are there any wrappers to any of the other PDF generating packages for PHP that provide API compatibility with PDFlib? Our company has been generating PDFs from PHP using PDFlib for many years, but have not upgraded since version 5. Now that we are upgrading some servers, we need either upgrade or find a replacement. I'd like to replace PDFlib with an open-source product that allows commercial use. However, we (foolishly, perhaps) didn't write our own wrapper around PDFlib the first time around, and have many, many lines of code that would need to be changed and tested. I realize I could write my own wrapper, but I find it surprising that my searching thus far has yielded no-one else who has done the same.

• How to reduce simple cpp application size? (compiled with RAD Studio 2010 cpp builder)

  I am using rad studio 2010 cpp builder. I've created a new SDI application, added a TCppWebBrowser control and a simple button that onclick trigger the .navigate for the TCppWebBrowser, I compiled it and I got a 1.20mb file, I was expecting less than 700kb at least. How can I reduce the size of the compiled exe? I don't want to use "build with runtime packages", I know that will make it very small but I want to get all the necessary packages and dependencies inside the exe but maybe I am getting more than I use, I tried unchecking/removing a lot of design packages (in project/options/packages) I don't use but the file size didn't decreased. Also I was thinking maybe the TForm component that comes with RAD Studio is giving me more stuff than I need and that could make the file bigger, I mean I only need to drop a webbrowser control and a few buttons in the form, maybe there's a minimal form component I could use to replace TForm. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I need to replace PROD between the % with another variable content. So I used to do: $a = str_replace('%PROD%',$var,$a); but now the PROD between % started coming in different cases. So I could expect prod or Prod. So I made the entire string uppercase before doing replacement. But the side effect is that other letters in the original string also became uppercase. Pavel's function would lead me to believe it is: date '0001-01-01' + y.year * interval '1 year' + interval '1 day'; My thought would be more like: to_date( y.year||'-1-1', 'YYYY-MM-DD'); Am looking for the fastest way using PostgreSQL 8.4. (The query that uses the date function can select between 100,000 and 1 million records, so it needs speed.) Thank you!
