  I have 7 textboxes. If Top 1 textbox(Volume All Years) text changed, text need to be updated in next 6 inputboxes(Latest 2009 Volume to Latest 2014 Volume). I need javascript or Jquery for this. I will write Js textchanged() or focuschange() for top 1 textbox. • Asp.Net MVC and ajax async callback execution order

  I have been sorting through this issue all day and hope someone can help pinpoint my problem. I have created a "asynchronous progress callback" type functionality in my app using ajax. When I strip the functionality out into a test application I get the desired results. See image below: Desired Functionality When I tie the functionality into my single page application using the same code I get a sort of blocking issue where all requests are responded to only after the last task has completed. In the test app above all request are responded to in order. The server reports a ("pending") state for all requests until the controller method has completed. Can anyone give me a hint as to what could cause the change in behavior? • Why can't I set the Image Source in WPF app?

  I'm just learning WPF. I'm using VS 2008. I've added an Image control to my XAML, and I added a GIF file to the project. If I use the XAML Designer's property panel to set the image's Source property, the drop-down list for the Source property contains the following: C:\Sample Project;component/pinHorizontal.gif There are several problems with this: My project, named "Sample Project," is not in the root of my drive. Why is ";component" in there? If I select this value as given, I get the error "Property value is not valid" (yeah, no kidding). If I go into the XAML source and set the Source property manually, like so: The XAML Designer gives me this error: "The file pinHorizontal.gif is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'." Why is this task so difficult? How do I assign an image source?

• How to "smart resize" a displayed image to original aspect ratio

  I have an application in which end-users can size and position images in a designer. Since the spec calls for the image to be "stretched" to the containing control, the end user can end up with an awkwardly stretched image. To help the user with image sizing I am thinking of implementing a smart resizer function which would allow the the user to easily fix the aspect ratio of the picture so that it no longer appears stretched. The quick way to solve this is to actually provide two options: 1) scale from width 2) scale from height. The user chooses the method and the algorithm adjusts the size of the picture by using the original aspect ratio. For example: A picture is displayed as 200x200 on the designer but the original image is 1024x768 pixels. The user chooses "Smart Size from width" and the new size becomes ~200x150 since the original aspect ratio is ~1.333 That's OK, but how could I make the algorithm smarter and not bother the user by asking which dimension the recalculation should be based on?

• What's the best version control system for handling projects with graphics?

  I'm part of a small team (usually just two people), I handle the code, he handles the graphic design. In the past I've used CVS to handle version control of the code files, and while we've included the graphics in the repository, he hasn't derived nearly as much value from it as I have. Are there other packages that provide the better features for supporting graphics? The system would need to have an easy to use GUI interface, as I don't think it's fair to expect a graphic designer to learn command-line tools. Additional aspect: The client software needs to run smoothly on OS X (for the designer), and Windows (for the programmer).

Two servers located in London, both Windows 2012, have a scheduled task set to run at 3pm Monday to Friday. This has been set up for the last 5 months without a problem. However, on Monday the 28th of August they both ran the scheduled task at 3pm and then again at 4pm. When it was first reported, I thought it was too much of a coincidence to be the day after the clocks had gone back an hour. However, I’m failing in being able to explain why it has happened and if it is related to the clock change at all. The relevant logs from one server (the logs for the other follow this pattern as well): Event 129 15:00:20 Task Scheduler launch task "\3pm", instance "C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\v5.4\php.exe" with process ID 2388. I've now updated the php file that is run by the scheduler to not actually do anything whilst I'm going through trying to solve this. I'm planning on restarting one server to see if this changes anything tomorrow. 30 October 08:25 - Update - When exporting the task XML I remembered that I hadn't included the fact that the scheduled task on second server was created by importing the XML of the task created on the first. The only difference between the two tasks is the path of the php file they are executing and the user account that they are running as.

• LINQ-to-SQL Query Timing Out

  I'm running this query in LINQ: var unalloc = db.slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs("Repair", RadComboBox1.SelectedValue, 20); It runs when I first open the page, but when I go back to it and try to run the same query with a different value, "Con", being passed through, the linq to sql designer.cs tells me that I've got a timeout error. Any ideas?   Duplicate http://stackoverflow.com/questions/344473/asp-net-website-or-web-application-project I have noticed that there is clearly a difference in what you get when you fire up Visual Studio 2008 and choose 'New Project' - 'ASP.NET Web Application' instead of 'New Web Site' - 'ASP.NET Web Site'. For example if you choose 'Project', then you can compile to .dll and each page gets a *.aspx.designer.cs codebehind file. 1) Why do we have these two different project types? 2) Which do you prefer? 3) Why would I choose one over the other? 4) What's the deal with the *.aspx.designer.cs files?

• Where can I define Conditional compilation constants for Delphi Prism?

  I've just ported a Web service from Delphi.NET 2006 to Delphi Prism 2009 (running in the Visual Studio 2008 IDE). But I can't find where I'm supposed to set (or unset) the conditional compilation constants! Am I blind, has this option been left out, or is it just not supported in VS? [edit: thanks to Mohammed Nasman for the link] MSDN tells me to set them using the Project Designer. First, it took me a while to figure out that the Project menu is only visible when the Solution is selected (and not the web service project). Then, there's still no way to set conditional compilation constants in the Project Designer! I just can't find a way to get to the Project Options in an ASP.NET project... Is it really not possible?

• Why does my custom component raise AVs in the IDE?

  I'm trying to write a simple component that will allow you to embed one or more SDL rendering surfaces on a Delphi window, using the SDL 1.3 APIs. It will compile and install just fine, but when I try to use the component in the form designer, it raises AVs whenever I try to access its properties in the object inspector, save the form, or delete the component, and placing one on a form then trying to run gives a linker error: it apparently can't read the DFM properly for whatever reason. The DLL can be found at http://www.libsdl.org/tmp/SDL-1.3-dll.zip and the source code to my component can be downloaded here. SDL.pas is a JEDI-SDL header file; the rest is my own code. I don't see any reason for this to raise AVs in the form designer. If I dynamically create the control at runtime I don't have any stability issues. Can anyone take a look at this and maybe provide some feedback that might help me clear it up?

• Documenting (XML) Application Settings in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi all, I recently created a (C#) project with Visual Studio (2010) and used some Settings (which I created under Properties). The only place I found where I can add some XML comments for my documentation, would be in Settings.Designer.cs. However this file is auto-generated so whenever I change the Settings, the comments are gone. Even Visual Studio gives started giving mewarnings, "Missing XML comment for publicity visibly type or member .... " My question here is: What is the neatest way to add XML comments to my Settings? Is there a better place than Settings.Designer.cs? Should I stop the file from being auto-generated? How? Any other way?

  I have been developing some custom smart tags. I am using a DesignerActionMethodItem which gets me to a fired method in code. When I try to hit the controls.Add the control is added but it seems the designer is unaware of it. It is never serialized and it goes away when the form is refreshed in the designer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sort of stuck and google hasn't helped me. Please don't send me anything about smart tags that has nothing to do with adding controls dynamically at design time, I have already read so many looking for this.

• disable 250 character URL limit in Internet Explorer

  Users of a SharePoint Document Library are getting this error: The URL for this file is too long for the application. A temporary copy of this file will be opened on your computer. You must save this copy as a new file. After doing some research, it appears Internet Explorer has a limit of about ~250 characters for a URL. Some URLs provided by SharePoint far exceed this limit. One example being 790 characters long. Is there a way to disable this limit? I have looked, but there doesnt appear to be a solution, other than shortening the folder/path names.

• where does the professional sheen of a GUI application realistically come from?

  I have been playing around with php-gtk recently and in the past I have experimented with Java to make GUI 'hello world' apps. However both these types of applications have had a bit of a clunky (almost childish) look and feel to them. I cannot deny that they are handy for making apps for in-house use (and I totally respect the amount of community effort that goes into these projects). But I would not necessarily be proud to sell it as a commercial application with a price tag of, say, £450 or £1,000. If I wanted to make an application that had the look and feel of, say, Firefox for Windows, or Adobe xyz, what GUI/language should I use? Is the 'professional sheen' or smart look and feel down to the designer or is it the case that, no matter how good a designer is, picking the right GUI framework is essential to get that look?

The problem: I'm developing an application in Visual Studio 2010 that is utilizing ReportViewer, rendering the report locally. In the report designer, I place a textbox on top of an image. This looks fine in the designer, but when rendering the report, the textbox is rendered below the image. Now, before you suggest it, I have tried placing a textbox on top of a rectangle (or other control) with the BackgroundImage property set. This works. But: I cannot find a way to rescale the background image to fit the control. Setting a different dpi for the background image does nothing. Simply rescaling the image to a different resolution is not an option, since I eventually want to print the report. Does anybody have a solution to this?

• IDENTITY_INSERT is set to off error

  I have a MVC web application with a table in the model that I would like to add to. I have the primary key set along with the other data fields, but every time I try to add to the table, I get the following error: "Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'TABLE_NAME' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF." I'm not sure why this problem is coming up, I have the primary key set as the identity and it is also set to auto increment in the Visual Studio table designer. Is there any way I can adjust the IDENTITY_INSERT parameter in the table designer in Visual Studio?? Or is there some other issue that might be causing this.

• Do controls need to be defined in a web app or will .NET do it for you

  I always thought that when you dropped a control onto an .aspx page that a declaration of that control ended up being generated for you (either in a designer file, or within your code behind). All of the apps I have worked on have worked this way. A coworker of mine was installing resharper and it was showing that all her code behind pages would not build. Turned out that resharper could not find a definition for any control that she has dropped onto her markup. She has no designer files, and no declarations in markup. Do they get automatically built when putting together the partial classes? Is there an option at that page/project level to instruct .NET to do this for you? Is this a difference between web app and web site? This is a a .NET 3.5 site, C#, and it is running in a production environment. Thanks in advance

• Windows 7 as VM inside VMWare Fusion - 32 or 64 bit?

  I have a MacBook Pro with the 2.4 Core 2 Duo and 4 GB RAM. I want to run Windows 7 for ASP.NET development within VMWare Fusion. Since I may be doing some SharePoint 2010 work I was thinking that my install of Windows 7 would need to be the 64 bit version because SharePoint 2010 requires 64 bit Windows. As I am new to Mac OS (I am running v10.6.3) I am not sure if it would support a 64 bit OS in a Virtual Machine. Thoughts?

• How do I convert a windows forms app from C# to VB ?

  I've been converting all kinds of other things, classes, interfaces, ASP.NET MVC apps, and WPF applications, but I am stumped as to how to convert a windows forms application, as the whole structure seems to be different. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem? I see essentially that you have two files, Form1.cs and Form1.Designer.cs. Literally translating them from C# to VB doesn't work because of some intricacies or other of how Visual Basic works. I think you /might/ be able to convert Form1.cs in this way, as it's just a constructor plus event handlers, but the designer contains the references to the controls etc. and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.

• Building a professional company website

  Hi fellows, I want to create a professional website for my company. I'm not a designer. I know some html/css, but I don't have much experience making up advanced pages and layouts. I'd expect public area, with various articles, and a "customer zone", accessible via username and password, where clients will be able to track their orders and download files. It needs to look very modern. I don't want to use website templates, because they're too simple. I know some Wordpress, but that's mostly for blogs, and anyways you need to find a right theme besides the CMS itself... Is there any alternative solution, some kind of framework for building such portals? Preferably a system that doesn't require designer skills. Thanks!

• LINQ to SQL -- Can't modify return type of stored procedure.

  When I drag a particular stored procedure into the VS 2008 dbml designer, it shows up with Return Type set to "none", and it's read only so I can't change it. The designer code shows it as returning an int, and if I change that manually, it just gets undone on the next build. But with another (nearly identical) stored procedure, I can change the return type just fine (from "Auto Generated Type" to what I want.) I've run into this problem on two separate machines. Any idea what's going on? • WPF with code only

  I've seen a lot of questions about the merits of WPF here, and essentially every answer says it's the bee's knees, but essentially every answer also talks about things like XAML, in many cases graphic designers and Expression Blend etc. My question is, is it worth getting into WPF if you're a solo coder working in C# only? Specifically, I don't have a graphic designer, nor any great talent in that area myself; I don't use point-and-click tools; I write everything in C#, not XML. Winforms works fine in those conditions. Is the same true of WPF, or does it turn out that important functions can only be done in XAML, the default settings aren't intended for actual use and you have to have a graphic designer on the team to make things look good, etc., and somebody in my position would be better off to stick to Winforms?

• DataSet with many OR clauses

  Hello :) I've got a little problem with a query which I create in the Visual Studio Designer. I need a query with a lot of 'OR'-clauses for the same column. I found the operator 'IN', but I don't know how to use that in the Visual Studio Designer: Example IN: SELECT EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, HireDate, City FROM Employees WHERE City IN ('Seattle', 'Tacoma', 'Redmond') I tried to do it in this way: SELECT [MachineryId], [ConstructionSiteId], [DateTime], [Latitude], [Longitude], [HoursCounter] FROM [PositionData] WHERE [MachineryID] IN @MachineryIDs But this doesn't work. Is there another way to handle a lot of OR clauses? Thank you very much for your help.
