  • Importing multiline cells from csv file into excel

    - by Unreason
I have a csv file (comma delimited and quoted). When csv file is opened directly from explorer excel correctly interprets the cells that are mutliline, but it messes up the character encoding (utf-8). Therefore I have to use import function (Data/Get External Data/From Text). However, when I use import text function in excel (where I can set file encoding explicitly) it interprets the newline as start of the new row instead of putting multiline text into a single cell and breaks the file layout. Can I somehow overcome the situation by either forcing the explorer open command to use 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) encoding forcing the Text Import Wizard to ignore quoted line breaks as record delimiters

  • Perl script and out of memory errors

    - by Kevin
We have a midsized server with 48GB of RAM and are attempting to import a list of around 100,000 opt-in email subscribers to a new list management system written in Perl. From my understanding, Perl doesn't have imposed memory limits like PHP, and yet we are continuously getting internal server errors when attempting to do the import. When investigating the error logs, we see that the script ran out of memory. Since perl doesn't have a setting to limit the memory usage (as far as I can tell) why are we getting these errors? I doubt a small import like this is consuming 48GB of ram. We have compromised and split the list into chunks of 10,000, but would like to figure out the root cause for future fixes. This is a CentOS machine with Litespeed as the web server.

  • Converting Outlook Express csv adress book and dbx files into Thunderbird on W7

    - by PiotrK
Recently I changed my OS from XP to W7. I made backup of any Outlook Express messages (the dbx files and adress book as CSV). On W7 I want to import that data into Thunderbird. There is option for importing from Outlook Express, but it is looking for live application data (I can't specify directory with real files myself) and there is no Outlook Express installed on W7 so I can't just import it back to it and then into Thunderbird. How can I import that data into Thunderbird?

  • Problem with installing sqlite3 module for python 2.6 on an ubuntu system

  • An SQLite/STDIN Conundrum, Specific to AIX

    - by mikfreedman
Hi there! I'm been playing around with SQlite at work, specifically with trying to get the sqlite3 command line tool to accept stdin instead of a file. Sounds easy enough, on linux you can execute a command like: echo 'test' | sqlite3 test.db '.import /dev/stdin test' unfortunately - our machines at work run AIX (5 & 6) and as far as I can tell, there is no equivalent to the virtual file /dev/stdin. I managed to hack together an equivalent command that works on AIX using a temporary file. echo 'test' | cat - > /tmp/blah ; sqlite3 test.db '.import /dev/stdin test' ; rm /tmp/blah Now, does it need to use STDIN? isn't this temporary file thing enough? Probably, but I was hoping someone with better unix-fu had a more elegant solution. note: the data I would like to import is only provided via STDOUT, so that's what the echo 'test' command is all about

  • Problems while applying an svn patch to a mercurial repository

    - by user26453
Patch file is made with TopirtiseSVN - Create Patch... Attempting to import patch into the mercurial repository using hg import patchfile. The problem I'm running into is that there seems to be problems with how hg looks for files referenced in the patch file: unable to find 'gui/gui/RemoteFramework.cpp' for patching 2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file gui/gui/RemoteFramwork.cpp.rej Seems to be an issue of where the patch was made in terms of directories and where it should be applied. Have tried playing with the --base option for hg import, but haven't gotten anywhere just yet. Anyone have any tips?

  • Puppet class inheritance confusion

    - by EMiller
I've read the documentation on scope, but I'm still having trouble working this out. I've got two environments that are very similar - so I've got: modules/django-env/manifests/init.pp class django-env { package { "python26": ensure => installed } # etc ... } import "er.pp" modules/django-env/manifests/er.pp $venvname = "er" $venvpath = "/home/django/virtualenvs" class er { file { "$venvpath/$venvname" : ensure => directory } # etc ... } class er-dev { include er } class er-bce-dev { $venvname = "er-bce" include er } manifests/modules.pp import "django-env" manifests/nodes.pp node default { # etc ... } node 'centos-dev' imports default { include django-env include er-bce-dev include er-dev } The result here is that the "inheritance" works - but only the first "er-" item under the 'centos-dev' node is acted upon, I either get er-bce-dev or er-dev, but not both. There must be some basic thing I'm misunderstanding here. Is it the difference between import and include ? (not sure I understand that)

  • WinXP Movie Maker Codec Error

    - by Bob Rivers
I'm trying to use Windows XP Movie Maker, but when I try to import an AVI video, it shows an error telling me that it wasn't import due to an the fact that the codec wasn't available (I'm able to see the video using the windows media player) First, the error message suggested to enable the option "download codecs automatically" under "tools options general". I did it. But know the error tells me that the codec wasn't available and, if I already installed it, I should reinitialize movie maker. I also already did it... The error msg is: The file D:\movie1.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. Any hints?

  • List/remove files, with filenames containing string that's "more than a month ago"?

    - by Martin Tóth
I store some data in files which follow this naming convention: /interesting/data/filename-YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM How do I look for the ones with date in file name < now - 1 month and delete them? Files may have changed since they were created, so searching according to last modification date is not good. What I'm doing now, is filter-ing them in python: prefix = '/interesting/data/filename-' import commands names = commands.getoutput('ls {0}*'.format(prefix)).splitlines() from datetime import datetime, timedelta all_files = map(lambda name: { 'name': name, 'date': datetime.strptime(name, '{0}%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M'.format(prefix)) }, names) month = datetime.now() - timedelta(days = 30) to_delete = filter(lambda item: item['date'] < month, all_files) import os map(os.remove, to_delete) Is there a (oneliner) bash solution for this?

  • importing old .eml files int outlook 2010

    - by Duncan Kenworthy
I was having so many problems with my laptop & Windows vista that I have updated to Windows 7 64bit. Because I was having so may problems I wanted a 'clean' upgrade so didn't want to carry over any programs or settings. Prior to changing over I saved all the folders I wanted from MS mail to a separate drive and then updated to Win 7 and Office 2010. To my horror I don't seem to be able to import my .eml messages into Outlook which means all my mail is in limbo. Please can anyone help me to simply import my old inbox messages into my new inbox as I have given up trying using the import/export menu as there doesn't seem to be a choice that works. Help!! Not too good a nerd!

  • Exporting virtual machine from Windows Azure to Amazon

    - by Somebody
As documentation says: You can import VMware ESX and VMware Workstation VMDK images, Citrix Xen VHD images and Microsoft Hyper-V VHD images for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2. What about virtual machine with Ubuntu on it? Will it import it successfully? Have anyone tried to do it? Is it possible to import VM directly from Windows Azure. Without need to download VM on my machine and then upload it to Amazon? Thanks.

  • Python - How to remove/unimport libs was imported before

    - by Marslo
As we know that, in python 2.x, integer would be got if we divide two integer values. However, if using the furture (it's might be a lib or something like that), just like from __future__ import division, we can get float value. E.g.: >>> 3/2 1 >>> from __future__ import division >>> 3/2 1.5 >>> >>> >>> 3//2 1 >>> 4/3 1.3333333333333333 >>> So, '//' instead of '/' should be used if getting integer after imported division, but I want to know how to using '/' to get integer again. That is mean, whether there is some way to un-import or remove the libs which was imported before.

  • Public key repository - does this exist?

    - by allegroconmolto
This is one of those "Surely this already exists, and if not, I damn well better build it!" moments. Here's my problem: I run a devteam, of around 10 individuals. Each of us has our own private key(s). When I go set up a new server for us, I have to import all of their keys to it. And if we start working with a contractor, I have to get his or her key too, and then import it and place it in .ssh/authorized_keys on the server. Ideally I'd like to be able to do something along the lines of: import_key allegroconmolto And it would contact a public repository of public keys, see if there was a user named allegroconmolto, and if so, import their key and add it to my authorized_keys. Adding future users would then be as simple as running import_key for them. I could then scp the authorized_keys file to all my servers and be done! This seems so obvious that I feel like it surely must exist somewhere.

  • Encoded nsstring becomes invalid, "normal" nsstring remains

    - by shoreline
I'm running into a problem with a string that contains encoded characters. Specifically, if the string has encoded characters it eventually becomes invalid while a "normal" string will not. in the .h file: @interface DirViewController : TTThumbsViewController <UIActionSheetDelegate,UINavigationControllerDelegate,UIImagePickerControllerDelegate> { NSString *sourceFolder; NSString *encodedSourceFolder; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *sourceFolder; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *encodedSourceFolder; in the .m file: - (id)initWithFolder:(NSString*)folder query:(NSDictionary*)query { if (self = [super init]) { sourceFolder = folder; } return self; } Up to now everything seems to run as expected. In viewDidLoad I have the following: sourceFolderCopy = [self urlEncodeValue:(sourceFolder)]; //I also have this button, which I'll refer to later: UIBarButtonItem *importButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Import/Export" style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:@selector(importFiles:)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = importButton; Which uses the following method to encode the string (if it has characters I want encoded): - (NSString *)urlEncodeValue:(NSString *)str { NSString *result = (NSString *) CFURLCreateStringByAddingPercentEscapes (kCFAllocatorDefault, (CFStringRef)str, NULL, CFSTR(":/?#[]@!$&’()*+,;="), kCFStringEncodingUTF8); return [result autorelease]; } If I NSLog result, I get the expected values. If the string has characters like a white space, I get a string with encoding. If the string doesn't have any characters that need to be encoded, it just gives me the original string. I have a button on the nav bar which begins an image import process by opening an action sheet. Once the method for the action sheet starts, my string is invalid - but only if it contains encoded characters. If it is just a "normal" string, everything is fine and acts as expected. Am I off on my encoding? At first I thought it might be a memory problem but I can't figure out why that would affect only encoded strings. Here's where the action sheet is defined (and the first place I can see the encoded string becoming invalid) the NSLog statements are where it crashes: - (IBAction)importFiles:(id)sender { NSLog(@"logging encodedSF from import files:"); NSLog(@"%@",encodedSourceFolder);//crashes right here NSLog(@"%@",sourceFolder); if (shouldNavigate == NO) { NSString *msg = nil; msg = @"It is not possible to import or export images while in image selection mode."; UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Unable to Import/Export" message:msg delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [msg release]; } else{ UIActionSheet *actionSheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:@"What would you like to do?" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Cancel" destructiveButtonTitle:nil otherButtonTitles:@"Import Photos (Picker)", @"Export Photos", nil, nil]; [actionSheet showInView:self.view]; [actionSheet release]; } } I don't get any crash errors going to the console. By using breakpoints I was able to see that the encodedSourceFolder is invalid in the action sheet method.

  • Mac 10.6 Universal Binary scipy: cephes/specfun "_aswfa_" symbol not found

    - by Markus
Hi folks, I can't get scipy to function in 32 bit mode when compiled as a i386/x86_64 universal binary, and executed on my 64 bit 10.6.2 MacPro1,1. My python setup With the help of this answer, I built a 32/64 bit intel universal binary of python 2.6.4 with the intention of using the arch command to select between the architectures. (I managed to make some universal binaries of a few libraries I wanted using lipo.) That all works. I then installed scipy according to the instructions on hyperjeff's article, only with more up-to-date numpy (1.4.0) and skipping the bit about moving numpy aside briefly during the installation of scipy. Now, everything except scipy seems to be working as far as I can tell, and I can indeed select between 32 and 64 bit mode using arch -i386 python and arch -x86_64 python. The error Scipy complains in 32 bit mode: $ arch -x86_64 python -c "import scipy.interpolate; print 'success'" success $ arch -i386 python -c "import scipy.interpolate; print 'success'" Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/interpolate/__init__.py", line 7, in <module> from interpolate import * File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/interpolate/interpolate.py", line 13, in <module> import scipy.special as spec File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/__init__.py", line 8, in <module> from basic import * File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/basic.py", line 8, in <module> from _cephes import * ImportError: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/_cephes.so, 2): Symbol not found: _aswfa_ Referenced from: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/_cephes.so Expected in: flat namespace in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/_cephes.so Attempt at tracking down the problem It looks like scipy.interpolate imports something called _cephes, which looks for a symbol called _aswfa_ but can't find it in 32 bit mode. Browsing through scipy's source, I find an ASWFA subroutine in specfun.f. The only scipy product file with a similar name is specfun.so, but both that and _cephes.so appear to be universal binaries: $ cd /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/ $ file _cephes.so specfun.so _cephes.so: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures _cephes.so (for architecture i386): Mach-O bundle i386 _cephes.so (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit bundle x86_64 specfun.so: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures specfun.so (for architecture i386): Mach-O bundle i386 specfun.so (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit bundle x86_64 Ho hum. I'm stuck. Things I may try but haven't figured out how yet include compiling specfun.so myself manually, somehow. I would imagine that scipy isn't broken for all 32 bit machines, so I guess something is wrong with the way I've installed it, but I can't figure out what. I don't really expect a full answer given my fairly unique (?) setup, but if anyone has any clues that might point me in the right direction, they'd be greatly appreciated. (edit) More details to address questions: I'm using gfortran (GNU Fortran from GCC 4.2.1 Apple Inc. build 5646). Python 2.6.4 was installed more-or-less like so: cd /tmp curl -O http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.4/Python-2.6.4.tar.bz2 tar xf Python-2.6.4.tar.bz2 cd Python-2.6.4 # Now replace buggy pythonw.c file with one that supports the "arch" command: curl http://bugs.python.org/file14949/pythonw.c | sed s/2.7/2.6/ > Mac/Tools/pythonw.c ./configure --enable-framework=/Library/Frameworks --enable-universalsdk=/ --with-universal-archs=intel make -j4 sudo make frameworkinstall Scipy 0.7.1 was installed pretty much as described as here, but it boils down to a simple sudo python setup.py install. It would indeed appear that the symbol is undefined in the i386 architecture if you look at the _cephes library with nm, as suggested by David Cournapeau: $ nm -arch x86_64 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/_cephes.so | grep _aswfa_ 00000000000d4950 T _aswfa_ 000000000011e4b0 d _oblate_aswfa_data 000000000011e510 d _oblate_aswfa_nocv_data (snip) $ nm -arch i386 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/special/_cephes.so | grep _aswfa_ U _aswfa_ 0002e96c d _oblate_aswfa_data 0002e99c d _oblate_aswfa_nocv_data (snip) however, I can't yet explain its absence.

  • How to get objects to react to touches in Cocos2D?

    - by Wayfarer
Alright, so I'm starting to learn more about Coco2D, but I'm kinda frusterated. A lot of the tutorials I have found are for outdated versions of the code, so when I look through and see how they do certain things, I can't translate it into my own program, because a lot has changed. With that being said, I am working in the latest version of Coco2d, version 0.99. What I want to do is create a sprite on the screen (Done) and then when I touch that sprite, I can have "something" happen. For now, let's just make an alert go off. Now, I got this code working with the help of a friend. Here is the header file: // When you import this file, you import all the cocos2d classes #import "cocos2d.h" // HelloWorld Layer @interface HelloWorld : CCLayer { CGRect spRect; } // returns a Scene that contains the HelloWorld as the only child +(id) scene; @end And here is the implementation file: // // cocos2d Hello World example // http://www.cocos2d-iphone.org // // Import the interfaces #import "HelloWorldScene.h" #import "CustomCCNode.h" // HelloWorld implementation @implementation HelloWorld +(id) scene { // 'scene' is an autorelease object. CCScene *scene = [CCScene node]; // 'layer' is an autorelease object. HelloWorld *layer = [HelloWorld node]; // add layer as a child to scene [scene addChild: layer]; // return the scene return scene; } // on "init" you need to initialize your instance -(id) init { // always call "super" init // Apple recommends to re-assign "self" with the "super" return value if( (self=[super init] )) { // create and initialize a Label CCLabel* label = [CCLabel labelWithString:@"Hello World" fontName:@"Times New Roman" fontSize:64]; // ask director the the window size CGSize size = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] winSize]; // position the label on the center of the screen label.position = ccp( size.width /2 , size.height/2 ); // add the label as a child to this Layer [self addChild: label]; CCSprite *sp = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"test2.png"]; sp.position = ccp(300,200); [self addChild:sp]; float w = [sp contentSize].width; float h = [sp contentSize].height; CGPoint aPoint = CGPointMake([sp position].x - (w/2), [sp position].y - (h/2)); spRect = CGRectMake(aPoint.x, aPoint.y, w, h); CCSprite *sprite2 = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"test3.png"]; sprite2.position = ccp(100,100); [self addChild:sprite2]; //[self registerWithTouchDispatcher]; self.isTouchEnabled = YES; } return self; } // on "dealloc" you need to release all your retained objects - (void) dealloc { // in case you have something to dealloc, do it in this method // in this particular example nothing needs to be released. // cocos2d will automatically release all the children (Label) // don't forget to call "super dealloc" [super dealloc]; } - (void)ccTouchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; //CGPoint location = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertCoordinate:[touch locationInView:touch.view]]; CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:[touch view]]; location = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertToGL:location]; if (CGRectContainsPoint(spRect, location)) { UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Win" message:@"testing" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"okay" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; NSLog(@"TOUCHES"); } NSLog(@"Touch got"); } However, this only works for 1 object, the sprite which I create the CGRect for. I can't do it for 2 sprites, which I was testing. So my question is this: How can I have all sprites on the screen react to the same event when touched? For my program, the same event needs to be run for all objects of the same type, so that should make it a tad easier. I tried making a subclass of CCNode and over write the method, but that just didn't work at all... so I'm doing something wrong. Help would be appreciated!

My RMI programs:- -Remote Intreface:- //Calculator.java public interface Calculator extends java.rmi.Remote { public long add(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException; public long sub(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException; public long mul(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException; public long div(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException; } Remote Interface Implementation:- //CalculatorImpl.java public class CalculatorImpl extends java.rmi.server.UnicastRemoteObject implements Calculator { public CalculatorImpl() throws java.rmi.RemoteException { super(); } public long add(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException { return a + b; } public long sub(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException { return a - b; } public long mul(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException { return a * b; } public long div(long a, long b) throws java.rmi.RemoteException { return a / b; } } Server:- //CalculatorServer.java import java.rmi.Naming; import java.rmi.server.RemoteServer; public class CalculatorServer { public CalculatorServer() { try { Calculator c = new CalculatorImpl(); Naming.rebind("rmi://"+args[0]+":1099/CalculatorService", c); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Trouble: " + e); } } public static void main(String args[]) { new CalculatorServer(); } } Client:- //CalculatorClient.java import java.rmi.Naming; import java.rmi.RemoteException; import java.net.MalformedURLException; import java.rmi.NotBoundException; public class CalculatorClient { public static void main(String[] args) { try { Calculator c = (Calculator)Naming.lookup("rmi://"+args[0]+"/CalculatorService"); System.out.println( c.sub(4, 3) ); System.out.println( c.add(4, 5) ); System.out.println( c.mul(3, 6) ); System.out.println( c.div(9, 3) ); } catch (MalformedURLException murle) { System.out.println(); System.out.println("MalformedURLException"); System.out.println(murle); } catch (RemoteException re) { System.out.println(); System.out.println("RemoteException"); System.out.println(re); } catch (NotBoundException nbe) { System.out.println(); System.out.println("NotBoundException"); System.out.println(nbe); } catch (java.lang.ArithmeticException ae) { System.out.println(); System.out.println("java.lang.ArithmeticException"); System.out.println(ae); } } } when both Server and client programs are on same machine:- i start my server program by passing my router static IP address:-192.168.1.35 in args[0] and my server starts...fine. and by passing the same Static IP address in my Client's args[0] also works fine. but:- when both Server and client programs are on different machines:- now,i m trying to start my Server Program by passing it's public IP address:59.178.198.247 in args[0] so that it can recieve call over internet. but i am unable to start it. and the following exception occurs:- Trouble: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 59.178.198.247; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect i think it is due to NAT Problem because i am under ISP. so,my problem is that how can i start my RMI Server under ISP so that it can recieve remote calls from internet????

  • Why does my UIWebView not Allow User Interaction?

    - by thomasmcgee
Hi, I'm new to these forums so I apologize for my noobieness. I did as thorough a search as I could, but I couldn't find anyone else with this issue, applogise if this has been covered elsewhere. I've created a very simple example of my problem. I'm sure I'm missing something but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I'm creating a UIWebView and adding it to a custom view controller that inherits from UIViewController. When the app loads in the iPad simulator, the uiwebview loads the desired page, but the UIWebView is entirely unresponsive. The webview does not pan or scroll and none of the in page links can be clicked. However, if you change the orientation of the webview suddleny everything works. Thanks in advance for your help!! AppDelegate header #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "EditorViewController.h" @interface FixEditorTestAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; EditorViewController *editorView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) EditorViewController *editorView; @end AppDelegate Implementation #import "FixEditorTestAppDelegate.h" #import "EditorViewController.h" @implementation FixEditorTestAppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize editorView; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { NSLog(@"application is loading"); editorView = [[EditorViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview:[editorView view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } - (void)dealloc { [window release]; [editorView release]; [super dealloc]; } @end View Controller header #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface EditorViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate> { UIWebView *webView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIWebView *webView; @end View Controller Implementation #import "EditorViewController.h" @implementation EditorViewController @synthesize webView; /* // The designated initializer. Override if you create the controller programmatically and want to perform customization that is not appropriate for viewDidLoad. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { // Custom initialization } return self; } */ // Implement loadView to create a view hierarchy programmatically, without using a nib. - (void)loadView { NSLog(@"loadView called"); UIView *curView = [[UIView alloc] init]; webView = [[UIWebView alloc] init]; webView.frame = CGRectMake(20, 40, 728, 964); webView.delegate = self; webView.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; [curView addSubview: webView]; self.view = curView; [curView release]; } //Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSLog(@"viewDidLoad called"); NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://www.nytimes.com"]; NSURLRequest *request = [[NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; [webView loadRequest:request]; [url autorelease]; [request release]; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Overriden to allow any orientation. return YES; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. • How to open new view (call an activity) from options menu defined in XML? (android)

    - by Portablejim
    I cant seem to open a new view from an options menu item. The program keeps crashing as it applies the intent and listener to the item. I am just beginning, so please be nice. The current view is mnfsms, and the view I am trying to open is mnfsms_settings. I am developing for 1.5. Could someone please help me get the menu working. The menu (called options_menu.xml): <menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:id="@+id/settings_button" android:title="Settings" android:icon="@android:drawable/ic_menu_preferences" /> <item android:id="@+id/about_button" android:title="About" android:icon="@android:drawable/ic_menu_myplaces" /> </menu> The main view (called mnfsms.java): package com.example.mnfsms; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.Menu; import android.view.MenuInflater; import android.view.MenuItem; public class mnfsms extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); /* OnClickListener myocl = new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v){ Intent myi = new Intent(mnfsms.this, mnfsms_settings.class); startActivity(myi); } };*/ } public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater(); inflater.inflate(R.menu.options_menu, menu); MenuItem mi_settings = (MenuItem)findViewById(R.id.settings_button); mi_settings.setIntent(new Intent(this, mnfsms_settings.class)); return true; } } The manifest: <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.example.mnfsms" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:name=".mnfsms" android:label="@string/main_window_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name=".mnfsms_settings" android:label="string/main_window_name"> </activity> </application> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> </manifest> The stacktrace: 01-06 15:07:58.045: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): java.lang.NullPointerException 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.example.mnfsms.mnfsms.onCreateOptionsMenu(mnfsms.java:30) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.app.Activity.onCreatePanelMenu(Activity.java:2038) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.preparePanel(PhoneWindow.java:421) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.onKeyDownPanel(PhoneWindow.java:664) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.onKeyDown(PhoneWindow.java:1278) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchKeyEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1735) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.view.ViewRoot.deliverKeyEventToViewHierarchy(ViewRoot.java:2188) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleFinishedEvent(ViewRoot.java:2158) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1490) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3948) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:782) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:540) 01-06 15:07:58.055: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2123): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method)

  • SQLAlchemy session management in long-running process

    - by codeape
Scenario: A .NET-based application server (Wonderware IAS/System Platform) hosts automation objects that communicate with various equipment on the factory floor. CPython is hosted inside this application server (using Python for .NET). The automation objects have scripting functionality built-in (using a custom, .NET-based language). These scripts call Python functions. The Python functions are part of a system to track Work-In-Progress on the factory floor. The purpose of the system is to track the produced widgets along the process, ensure that the widgets go through the process in the correct order, and check that certain conditions are met along the process. The widget production history and widget state is stored in a relational database, this is where SQLAlchemy plays its part. For example, when a widget passes a scanner, the automation software triggers the following script (written in the application server's custom scripting language): ' wiget_id and scanner_id provided by automation object ' ExecFunction() takes care of calling a CPython function retval = ExecFunction("WidgetScanned", widget_id, scanner_id); ' if the python function raises an Exception, ErrorOccured will be true ' in this case, any errors should cause the production line to stop. if (retval.ErrorOccured) then ProductionLine.Running = False; InformationBoard.DisplayText = "ERROR: " + retval.Exception.Message; InformationBoard.SoundAlarm = True end if; The script calls the WidgetScanned python function: # pywip/functions.py from pywip.database import session from pywip.model import Widget, WidgetHistoryItem from pywip import validation, StatusMessage from datetime import datetime def WidgetScanned(widget_id, scanner_id): widget = session.query(Widget).get(widget_id) validation.validate_widget_passed_scanner(widget, scanner) # raises exception on error widget.history.append(WidgetHistoryItem(timestamp=datetime.now(), action=u"SCANNED", scanner_id=scanner_id)) widget.last_scanner = scanner_id widget.last_update = datetime.now() return StatusMessage("OK") # ... there are a dozen similar functions My question is: How do I best manage SQLAlchemy sessions in this scenario? The application server is a long-running process, typically running months between restarts. The application server is single-threaded. Currently, I do it the following way: I apply a decorator to the functions I make avaliable to the application server: # pywip/iasfunctions.py from pywip import functions def ias_session_handling(func): def _ias_session_handling(*args, **kwargs): try: retval = func(*args, **kwargs) session.commit() return retval except: session.rollback() raise return _ias_session_handling # ... actually I populate this module with decorated versions of all the functions in pywip.functions dynamically WidgetScanned = ias_session_handling(functions.WidgetScanned) Question: Is the decorator above suitable for handling sessions in a long-running process? Should I call session.remove()? The SQLAlchemy session object is a scoped session: # pywip/database.py from sqlalchemy.orm import scoped_session, sessionmaker session = scoped_session(sessionmaker()) I want to keep the session management out of the basic functions. For two reasons: There is another family of functions, sequence functions. The sequence functions call several of the basic functions. One sequence function should equal one database transaction. I need to be able to use the library from other environments. a) From a TurboGears web application. In that case, session management is done by TurboGears. b) From an IPython shell. In that case, commit/rollback will be explicit. (I am truly sorry for the long question. But I felt I needed to explain the scenario. Perhaps not necessary?)

  • Placing component on Glass Pane

    - by Chris Lieb
I have a subclass of JLabel that forms a component of my GUI. I have implemented the ability to drag and drop the component from one container to another, but without any visual effects. I want to have this JLabel follow the cursor during the drag of the item from one container to another. I figured that I could just create a glass pane and draw it on there. However, even after I add the component to the glass pane, set the component visible, and set the glass pane visible, and set the glass pane as opaque, I still so not see the component. I know the component works because I can add it to the content pane and have it show up. • Python - help on custom wx.Python (pyDev) class

    - by Wallter
I have been hitting a dead end with this program. I am trying to build a class that will let me control the BIP's of a button when it is in use. so far this is what i have (see following.) It keeps running this weird error TypeError: 'module' object is not callable - I, coming from C++ and C# (for some reason the #include... is so much easier) , have no idea what that means, Google is of no help so... • Error in python - don't understand

    - by Jasper
Hi, I'm creating a game, and am quite new to Python generally. I created a function 'descriptionGenerator()' which generates a description for characters and objects either randomly or using variables passed to it. It seemed to be working, but every now and then it wouldn't work correctly. So i placed it in a loop, and it never seems to be able to complete the loop without one of the iterations having this problem. The code is as follows: #+------------------------------------------+ #| Name: bitsandpieces.py | #| A module for the 'Europa I' game | #| created for the Game Making Competition | #| | #| Date Created/Modified: | #| 3/4/10 | 3/4/10 | #+------------------------------------------+ # Import the required modules # Import system modules: import time import random # Import 3rd party modules: # Import game modules: # Define the 'descriptionGenerator()' function def descriptionGenerator(descriptionVariables): descriptionVariableSize = len(descriptionVariables) if descriptionVariables[0] == 'char': # If there is only one variable ('char'), create a random description if descriptionVariableSize == 1: # Define choices for descriptionVariables to be generated from gender_choices = ['male', 'female'] hair_choices = ['black', 'red', 'blonde', 'grey', 'brown', 'blue'] hair_choices2 = ['long', 'short', 'cropped', 'curly'] size_choices = ['tubby', 'thin', 'fat', 'almost twig-like'] demeanour_choices = ['glowering', 'bright', 'smiling', 'sombre', 'intelligent'] impression_choices = ['likeable', 'unlikeable', 'dangerous', 'annoying', 'afraid'] # Define description variables gender = random.choice(gender_choices) height = str(float('0.' + str(random.randint(1, 9))) + float(random.randint(1, 2))) if float(height) > 1.8: height_string = 'tall' if float(height) > 2: height_string = 'very tall' elif float(height) < 1.8 and float(height) > 1.5: height_string = 'average' elif float(height) < 1.5: height_string = 'short' if float(height) < 1.3: height_string = 'very short' hair = random.choice(hair_choices2) + ' ' + random.choice(hair_choices) size = random.choice(size_choices) demeanour = random.choice(demeanour_choices) impression = random.choice(impression_choices) # Collect description variables in list 'randomDescriptionVariables' randomDescriptionVariables = ['char', gender, height, height_string, hair, size, demeanour, impression] # Generate description using the 'descriptionGenerator' function descriptionGenerator(randomDescriptionVariables) # Generate the description of a character using the variables passed to the function elif descriptionVariableSize == 8: if descriptionVariables[1] == 'male': if descriptionVariables[7] != 'afraid': print """A %s man, about %s m tall.
