• Code-First Database Creation During TFS 2010 CI Build

  I would like to automate code-first database generation during the automated CI build of a web project in Team Foundation Server 2010. When run locally the tests create a code-first database specified by the connection string in the app.config of the tests project. How do I configure the TFS Build Configuration to mimic this behaviour on the TFS build server? Edit The problem, it turns out, was that the TFS build server was successfully running the test which was using the default connection string in the app.config which pointed to the local SQL Server, not where I expected it. The solution was to use SlowCheetah on the TFS server as a means to transform the App.config file using the QA transform as per this blog article.

• Driver for Sony Vaio Alps Touchpad for Ubuntu 11 [closed]

  I have vaio E-series laptop. Recently I installed ubuntu 11 on it. My touchpad seems to be working except the fact that in settings no touchpad is shown. As a result, I can't configure it for edge-scrolling or deactivating it while typing. I have already tried configuring grub (actually it was already configured). I have even installed softwares like 'psmouse-alps 0.11' but of no use. Technical staff of sony blatantly replied that they only provide support in windows..blah... Now, I am really worried if my touchpad will ever work properly or not ... Please help...

  I'm starting to use command line a little more, and I see there are a lot of ways to configure some config files in my $HOME. This is good, since you can customize it the way you really like. Unfortunately, for begginners, having too many options is a little confusing. For example, I created .bash_alias for some alias I'm using. I didn't even know this option existed, I'm used to simply edit .bashrc. Do exist a pattern, a "good practice", envisioning flexibility and modularity in terms of rc files structure? Do exist a standardization group for this, or every body just creates it's own configuration setup?

• How can I log the response header and body in apache?

  I need to determine whether the server (Apache 2) is returning the full contents of a page along with its correct header or not. I have a PHP-script that is executed successfully, but the browser is getting only half of the html content, it's simply cut off. The client infrastructure is pretty complicated, using Novell BorderManager Proxys and stuff. To ensure the server is doing its job fine I want to log both header and body of the reponse. How can I achieve this? I looked into the mod_log_config module of apache (which is already installed and ready to be used), but honestly I didn't quite manage to configure it to output header and body somewhere. edit: I managed to log the header with LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %s %b \"%{HEADER_NAME}o\"" common2 CustomLog /var/log/apache2/response.log common2 But unfortunately the mod_log_config formats don't support the whole content body. Can anyone help?

• How do I make control-click in Opera open new tabs?

  In Opera, as opposed to all other modern browsers I know, control-click does not open a new tab. Moreover, I couldn't find any good way to configure this behavior. The best available option seems to be this. However, it's so hacky that it won't work on HTTPS sites unless you enable user javascript there, which doesn't seem like a good idea. There also seem to be other proposed solutions, but none of them seem to work. I'd like this because my laptop has no middle mouse-button, and I'm a creature of habit. Do people have any ideas (for the latest version, 10.50)? I'd like ctrl-click to open a background tab, but I can do with foreground. Thank you!

• Touchscreen on KDE and Ubuntu?

  I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro... I liked the activity of the touchscreen on Windows, and it makes sense as it does on my smart phone. However, I'm not a regular windows user, so I installed Kubuntu 14.04, and everything looks fine, except that the activity of the touchscreen is so silly that it's useless. Why? Because all the touchscreen does is a single mouse with left click. For example, if I touch the screen for a relatively long time, I don't get the effect of a right click. How do I configure the touchscreen properly to get the activity expected on Ubuntu and KDE? Thanks for any efforts.

The product is a combination of hard- and software options. The options for sure have dependecies (so option A needs B and C) and can also exclude each other. The performance requirements of the software related to the hardware need to be considered. So some rules need to be defineable. Does anybody know a tool (preferred open source) doing that job? • Unable to run Django on Mac OS X

  I'm working with a Django project on my Mac (running Leopard) and I want to show it to my team. I've already passed the neccessary port forwards from my router to my Mac's LAN IP address but it doesn't work. I've also tried running the XAMPP server since that always worked with my Windows XP computer but it still doesn't work. Whenever I type my > it's showing a Page Load Error. Is this possibly an issue with an Mac OS X configuration that I need to setup first to allow my port forwards to get in? It's my first time to do this with Mac, perhaps I need to configure something else in network preferences?

• Software to automate event notifications

  I maintain a small web site and people can send an email to request information about new events. I would like to automate the process of updating people about new events via email. Is there some easy existing software package to do this? Where I can configure events with a date/description/etc... and have mails get sent automatically? The alternative is to build a MySql database and have some python script in a cron job that does it. I'd like to know if this is a solved problem though. I'm running on a shared host (dreamhost if it matters)

• Make taskbar buttons fixed on Windows 7

  Sometimes the application buttons on the Windows 7 taskbar change position by themselves. For example, if I have two windows of the same application opened, the first opened window should be the first button on the taskbar (to the left of the other) and the second opened window should be the second button on the taskbar (to the right of the other), but they switch places sometimes. I don't like this. How can I fix / configure this not to get rearranged? I am not using Aero, and the buttons of the same application are not grouped under a single button. !

It is missing from the Conditions list, this time, though. I have registered NAP in AD I have restarted the NAP service I have rebooted I have removed the server as a NAP/IAS server in AD and re-registered I have removed the role and added it again I can't seem to find this in my googlings. • What alternative is there to Nginx that supports http keep-alive between backends ?

I recently asked a question about how to keep a backend connection persistent using Nginx, but found out it wasn't possible anyway, It is an HTTP/1.0 proxy without the ability for keep-alive requests yet. (As a result, backend connections are created and destroyed on every request.) It works all fine right now (since the connection between client and Nginx is kept alive and the result is simply the same), but I don't want to establish a new connection every single time a new request is received ,even if it's on a unix domain socket. So, what software (preferably open-source and not too tedious to configure) do you recommend to accomplish that such connections ?

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

• sticky bit on NFS file system

  I have a system where to the main server (homes, nfs, ntp, queue...) can log-in only root – all the other users use front-end host with NFS-mounted home directories (RW) and all other software directories (read-only). My problem is, that time to time, if root or normal user with sudo makes some administrative works on front-end some homes of normal users getting sticky bits (drwsr-sr-x). If it happens usually the user can't log-in (as long as permission for his home are not changed to drwxr-xr-x). The last time I saw it after compiling some new software (normal user configure;make) and installation from the same directory as root (su and make install or direct as normal user sudo make install). Can somebody explain me why it happens and what should I do to get rid of this problem? p.s. I'm using CentOS 5.7

  On Linux the ssh command has a -t option whose man page reads: Force pseudo-tty allocation. This can be used to execute arbitrary screen-based programs on a remote machine, which can be very useful, e.g. when implementing menu services. Multiple -t options force tty allocate, even if ssh has no local tty. I would like to use this same option with PuTTY on Windows. In particular, I can see that PuTTY has a bunch of options under: Category - Connection - SSH - TTY and suspect it might be possible to achieve the same behavior via some of the (NUMEROUS!) settings found on this screen.   Does anyone know a kind of software that allows controlling of other computer, but the server can configure permission control? For example, the server can define five users, one of them can control, but the other four of them can only view. Also, file transfer support is required. I've tried TightVNC, it works fine with anything else, but it just does not support user permission control. RAdmin can serve this job, but I wish to find some software which is free. Thank you!

• Equalizing Agent and Master Nagios on state change alone

  We have a setup where there are distributed Nagios running on multiple sites and are equalizing their data to the main Nagios server. The problem is it sends back the data to main Nagios server no matter if there is a state change in host or service. Is it possible to configure the slave Nagios to check the service/Host every 5 sec but send back the data only if there is a state change. Currently it is implemented by Obsess Over Hosts/Service which always runs the command which will equalize. Nagios version is 3 I am no administrator but a developer so I don't know the exact jargon so please bare with me.

  I'm stuggling with installing WebDeploy service on my development PC (Windows 7 Professional with IIS 7.5). Can someone give me the steps required to do that. Update: I installed the Web Deployment Tool from WPI and verified that the web deployment service is running (I believe it's "Web Deployment Agent Service"), however, when I open IIS Manager I can't see the Management Service; as per my understanding it's were I configure web deployment. Lots of “ professional” programs are so poorly documented that it’s difficult to find the proper way to configure them, update them, etc. InstallRite is a program which is able to take a “snapshot” before and after the installation of a program and then compare the snapshots. This allows you to know what was done and even to create a custom uninstaller. Unfortunately InstallRite seems to no longer be maintained and has not been updated since 2008.

  I was born in 1989 and am an active Windows user since 1993. I've always struggled with Linux, not being able to configure the system the way I would like, snooping through blogs and forums for answers, never actually overcame the barrier. The books I've seen and read are either completely command line oriented (and don't get me wrong it's awesome to know this stuff when you're working on a server for example) but seems rather impractical to me on a desktop computer that's partially my development environment. The other kind are user manual describing step-by-step the controls of simplest applications like the Calculator, totally useless to me. What would you recommend for a programmer who needs to learn how to work with Linux but already knows the basics? What materials did you use to learn how to start with Linux?
