• SOAP client generator for ruby/ruby on rails

  I have been looking for a fully functional WSDL client generator for ruby. I tried the one called wsdl2ruby and it didn't work. I think it has problems with detecting complex types correctly. Can someone point me to the right library if there is one? I am specifically looking to generate a full functional client for SOAP API provided by jira. I looked into jira4r but it seems to be dead now and not up to date. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

• Is it possible to tweak TStringField to work like TWideStringField in Delphi?

  We want to use Unicode with Delphi 2009 and Interbase, and found that to switch the character encoding from WIN1252 to UNICODE_FSS we first have to replace all instances of TStringField with TWideStringField in all datamodules. For around 60 datamodules, we can not simply do this over one weekend. I can see only two options for a migration strategy: find a workaround which allows to use the existing TStringField fields without triggering the 'expected: TWideStringField' error or remove all persistent fields to avoid the string type conflict As far as I know the field types for persistent database fields are registered in some kind of class registry. Could we use this to make Delphi believe that a TStringField is ok for a Interbase character column with UNICODE_FSS encoding? Or can we use a commercial dbExpress driver which work with TStringField in both cases? • The name 'GridView1' does not exist in the current context

  hi all, I have two files named as TimeSheet.aspx.cs and TimSheet.aspx ,code of the file are given below for your reference. when i build the application im getting error "The name 'GridView1' does not exist in the current context" even thought i have a control with the id GridView1 and i have added the runat="server" as well. Im not able to figure out what is causing this issue.Can any one figure whats happen here. • Indexing vs. no indexing when inserting records

  I have a few questions about whether or not it would be best to not use indexing. BACKGROUND: My records have a timestamp attribute, and the records will be inserted in order of their timestamps (i.e., inserted chronologically). QUESTIONS: If I DON'T use indexing is it typical for the database to insert the records in the order that they were inserted? If answer to #1 is yes, when I do a "SELECT .. WHERE timestamp X" type query will the database be efficient at it, or will it have to go through every single record since it isn't indexed? I would assume if there were no index, the database would not "know" that the records were inserted in sorted order and could not, therefore, make use of sorted property of the database. I assume a clustered index would be best for these types of records & their inserts. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks, jbu

  I'm not clear about this.... When having a gridview on the View, is the controller who has to set up the Data source, columns, etc? or I just have to expose the DataBinding stuff, fire it from the controller and let the html/codebehind on the view handle all the rendering and wiring up? To be more precise: on the view should I have private GridView _gv public _IList<Poco> Source { get {_gv.DataSource;} set {_gv.DataSource = value; _gv.DataBind();} } Or should it be (from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/153222/mvp-pattern-passive-view-and-exposing-complex-types-through-iview-asp-net-web) private GridView _datasource; public DataSource { get { return _datasource; } set { _datasource = value; _datasource.DataBind(); } } Maybe I'm having it all wrong .... • Schema compare with MS Data Tools in VS2008

  When performing a schema compare having db_owner rights on the target database results in the following error: The user does not have permission to perform this action. Using the SQL Server Profiler I figured out this error occurs executing a query targeting the master db view: [sys].[dm_database_encryption_keys] While specifically ignoring all object types but Tables one would presume the SQL Compare doesn't need access to the db encryption keys. Also note: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vstsdb/thread/c11a5f8a-b9cc-454f-ba77-e1c69141d64b/ One solution would be to GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE to the db user, but in my case I'm not hosting the database services and won't get the rights to the server state. This article says ... the Java bytecode doesn’t support dynamic method invocation. There are three supported invocations modes : invokestatic, invokespecial, invokeinterface or invokevirtual. These modes allows to call methods with known signature. We talk of strongly typed language. This allows to to make some checks directly at compile time. On the other side, the dynamic languages use dynamic types. So we can call a method unknown at the compile time, but that’s completely impossible with the Java bytecode. What am I missing?

• Configurable UI Plugin frameworks for .NET Compact Framework

  Is anyone aware of any frameworks for configuring UIs and possibly plugins for .NET Compact Framework (rich client) applications? Ideally, I'm hoping to find something that would allow you to bascially configure an application's UI and screenflow via an XML file, or some other configuration mechanism, and allow you to plugin different "Action" classes to take care of specific events, etc. in the app. We basically want to have a base application, which allows you to plugin specific/custom functionality to support different customers. I know it's a lot to find, but feel free to throw out any frameworks that might support any or all of these types of things.

• Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

• Colour Name to RGB/Hex/HSL/HSV etc

  Hello all, I have come across this great function/command. Colour to RGB, you can do this: col2rgb("peachpuff") //returns hex It will return one hex value. I want to extend this using Perl, Python or PHP but I want to be able to pass in, for example, "yellow" and the function returns all types of yellows - their hex/rgb/?/etc value. I already have a quick solution implemented, which involves mapping colour names to hex values but now I want to get more precise and use some formulas etc to determine what's what. However, as usual, I don't have a clue on how to do this! So I appreciate any implementation advice on how to do this. Thanks all

• System.Reflection - Global methods aren't available for reflection

  I have an issue with a semantic gap between the CLR and System.Reflection. System.Reflection does not (AFAIK) support reflecting on global methods in an assembly. At the assembly level, I must start with the root types. My compiler can produce assemblies with global methods, and my standard bootstrap lib is a dll that includes some global methods. My compiler uses System.Reflection to import assembly metadata at compile time. It seems if I depend on System.Reflection, global methods are not a possibility. The cleanest solution is to convert all of my standard methods to class static methods, but the point is, my language allows global methods, and the CLR supports it, but System.Reflection leaves a gap. ildasm shows the global methods just fine, but I assume it does not use System.Reflection itself and goes right to the metadata and bytecode. Besides System.Reflection, is anyone aware of any other 3rd party reflection or disassembly libs that I could make use of (assuming I will eventually release my compiler as free, BSD licensed open source).

• Using clang to analyze C++ code

  We want to do some fairly simple analysis of user's C++ code and then use that information to instrument their code (basically regen their code with a bit of instrumentation code) so that the user can run a dynamic analysis of their code and get stats on things like ranges of values of certain numeric types. clang should be able to handle enough C++ now to handle the kind of code our users would be throwing at it - and since clang's C++ coverage is continuously improving by the time we're done it'll be even better. So how does one go about using clang like this as a standalone parser? We're thinking we could just generate an AST and then walk it looking for objects of the classes we're interested in tracking. Would be interested in hearing from others who are using clang without LLVM.

• Tracking Google Analytics events with server side request automation

  I'm currently in the process of programming an utility which generates GA tracking pixel (utm.gif) URL:s based on given parameters. For those of you who are wondering why I'm doing this on the server side, I need to do this server side since the context which I'm going to start tracking simply doesn't support JavaScript and as such ga.js is completely useless to me. I have managed to get it working otherwise quite nicely but I've hit a snag: I can't track events or custom variables because I have no idea how exactly the utme parameter's value should be structured to form a valid event or var type hit. GA's own documentation on this parameter isn't exactly that great, either. I've tried everything from Googling without finding anything (which I find ironic) to reverse engineering ga.js, unfortunately it's minified and quite unreadable because of that. The "mobile" version of GA didn't help either since officially GA mobile doesn't support events nor vars. To summarize, what is the format of the utme parameter for page hit types event and custom variable?

• UIImages not displaying in TableView on iPhone, but working in Simulator

  Hi, I have a UITable View that displays an image in the left hand side of the table cell, and it works fine in the simulator. Only problem is, once I ran it on my device no images appear. It's just a blank white space. Have checked that images are added to resource folder for build (which they are) and that capitals etc. match (which they do). Any ideas? Thanks. My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be EAV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

• Extending Perforce to use a custom content diff tool for certain file extensions

  I have various custom binary files stored in perforce and for many of the file types I have built a custom diff tool to show the content creators a diff of the actual changes to the file. E.g. If the file holds simple key value pairs as a compressed binary blob the diff tool would load each version into an in memory format and generate a list of additions, deletions and edits to the file presented in a nice clean report view. Much like the built in image diff tool in P4V i'd like to be able to use my own diff tool for certain file extensions within my depot and allow the users to use the existing P4V interface to pick revisions to diff between and examine history. So, I am aware you can write add-ins to P4V but I can't find any documentation on it and I'd like to know if this kind of extension functionality is available in P4V and how to use it?

• Visual Studio 2010: adding a service reference to a 2008 generated wsdl

  Doesn't produce a app.config . In my team there is a guy who has Visual Studio 2008, he created a webservice. Then there is me, adding this webservice to a console project. Adding the service reference goes without problems but no valid app.config is generated. It's just empty <configuration> </configuration> When I disable 'reuse types' in my service reference it works but then I get an ambiguous error. Is this a bug? I found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2159107/visual-studio-does-not-generate-app-config-content-when-add-service-reference this one, but there is no solution there, so I thought I bump the problem up again. • Deploying Sinatra app on Dreamhost/Passenger with custom gems

  I've got a Sinatra app that I'm trying to run on Dreamhost that makes use of pony to send email. In order to get the application up and running at the very beginning (before adding pony), I had to gem unpack rack and gem unpack sinatra into the vendor/ directory, so this was my config.ru: require 'vendor/rack/lib/rack' require 'vendor/sinatra/lib/sinatra' set :run, false set :environment, :production set :views, "views" require 'public/myapp.rb' run Sinatra::Application I have already done gem install pony and gem unpack pony (into vendor/). Afterwards, I tried adding require 'vendor/sinatra/lib/pony' to config.ru only to have Passenger complain about pony's dependencies (mime-types, tmail) not being found either! There has to be a better way to use other gems and tone down those long, ugly, redundant requires. Any thoughts?

• C# Pragma to suppress break on thrown error

  First off I run my applications with exceptions thrown on any error (handled or not). Second I am using a TypeConverter to convert from a user input string to the actual object. I'm hoping there may be some way to disable breaking for the section of code within the try without changing my exception settings.

• Injection with google guice does not work anymore after obfuscation with proguard

  Has anyone ever tried to combine the use of google guice with obfuscation (in particular proguard)? The obfuscated version of my code does not work with google guice as guice complains about missing type parameters. This information seems to be erased by the transformation step that proguard does, even when the relevant classes are excluded from the obfuscation.   I have a traits class that's used for printing out different character types: template <typename T> class traits { public: static std::basic_ostream<T>& tout; }; template<> std::ostream& traits<char>::tout = std::cout; template<> std::wostream& traits<unsigned short>::tout = std::wcout; gcc (g++) version 3.4.5 (yes somewhat old) is throwing an error: "expected constructor destructor or type conversion before '&' token" And I'm wondering if there's a good way to resolve this. (it's also angry about _O_WTEXT so if anyone's got some insight into that, I'd also appreciate it)

• LINQPad - Dump extension method - I want one!

  Hi, LINQPad is amazing, particularly useful is the Dump() extension methods which renders objects and structs of almost any type, anonymous or not, to the console. Initially, when I moved to Visual Studio 2010, I tried to make my own Dump method using a delegate to get the values to render for anonymous types etc. It's getting pretty complicated though and whilst it was fun and educational at first what I need is a solid implementation. Having checked out the LinqPad code in reflector I am even more assured that I'm not going to get the implementation right. Is there a free library I can include to provide the Dump functionality?
