Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

  This is what my LinearLayout (horizontal) row looks like: I want the text of the checkbox to be on one line; The buttons don't have to be that wide - they'll still have plenty of space with the checkbox text lengthened a bit. • Is it good to use .settings for storing controls text data?

  In my WinForms applications I often put the controls text data (form title, labels texts, button captions, etc.) into a .settings (feature automatically generated by Visual Studio - based on the ApplicationSettingsBase class). In particular, Add a form or a control. In Solution Explorer add a new string item into the application scope of the settings file. Bind the control text property with the corresponding item of the settings file (through the property binding). Good point of this is that all my text data is collected in one place and easy to check and edit. Also it is convenient when I want to use the same text for several controls. However, I haven't heard that somebody uses the .settings such way. In tutorials for creating multilingual applications, for example, it is recommended to enter texts directly into the control property. So, is it good practice to use .settings for storing controls text data? Brief conclusion from the answers: Storing controls text data in the .settings is not common practice.

However, I keep getting the value as 'undefined', in spite of entering text into the newly added text box. This does not happen if the form already has a text box to begin with - i.e., if a text box is not being added via a js function. Anything missing / look wrong here? Thanks!

• Is it any desktop wysiwyg editors for mediawiki / wiki available?

  Hello. Mediawiki is very good, but for programming tasks editing it via web is not very handy since wysiwyg is very limited, pressing 'edit' + 'publish' on any small change and waiting for page loading kins of annoying. I have seen alot of desktop wikis (personal wikis) that are free from such problems. The best example is a 'wikidpad' that has a usage patter of 'focus, edit wiki in-place, minimize'. This is very handy for programming work where you need to make small changes to wiki and documentation during development, and documentation is written much more often than readed :). But all such desktops wikies are personal - they don't have any wiki sharing (or marginally limited support for it). So, maybe it's a desktop application exists that can connect to mediawiki and allows to view and edit it via a rich wysiwyg editor? Any hints are welcomed.

Now I guess the problem is people having script tags and javascript in the editor and injecting malicious scripts and I have my validate input turned false. So can anyone suggest me a way to write a custom validation method that maybe checks for script tags and removes them...or just guide me through the steps i need to do ?...also are there other things also that I should be worried about..?

  I am trying to learn how to write a bookmarklet where I can highlight some text, click on the bookmarklet and have it tell me what got highlighted. I can get that far, but next I want to know what element that text is in. For example: <div id="some-id">to be highlighted</div> The bookmarklet code: javascript:(function(){alert(window.getSelection();})() If I highlight the text "to be highlighted" and then click on the bookmarklet, it will alert the text. But how can I get the element in which the text is in, in this case the element after that? So the flow is: highlight text, click bookmarklet, bookmarklet tells you what you highlighted and the element it's in. Thanks!

  I'm using Tangible's editor and (no offense guys) it sucks. Its one painful step above notepad. But its (afaik) the only game in town. Does anybody have any tips/tricks on creating T4 templates in a non-painful way? For instance, I'm thinking about creating a T4 Template that essentially turns a class defined in a solution into a template generator. DTE, look for code that is marked with this or that attribute, run this or that method, and drop the results into a file. At least I'd get legit intellisense out of the deal...

• How can I get Text property to initialize to the objects name at design time?

  When you add a label to the form from the toolbox, its text defaults to the item's name (label1, label2, etc). How can I make this happen with a custom control? So far, I have the following, which allows me to change the text through the property window: private string _text; [BrowsableAttribute(true)] public override string Text { get { return _text; } set { _text = value; lblID.Text = _text; } } Apparently the above code works as is, but I'm not sure why. Does Text default to the object's name automatically? The question still stands for other properties which don't override Text.

When I click in textField1 again the previous text is disappeared in the textField1. After entering the text in both the textFields, I need the keyboard to disappear.   I'm trying to implement a pop-up menu based on a click-and-hold, positioned so that a (really) slow click will still trigger the default action, and with the delay set so that a text-selection gesture won't usually trigger the menu. What I can't seem to do is cancel the text-selection in a way that doesn't prevent text-selection in the first place: returning false from the event handler (or calling $(this).preventDefault()) prevents the user from selecting at all, and the obvious $().trigger('mouseup') doesn't doesn't do anything with the selection at all. This is in the general context of a page, not particular to a textarea or other text field. e.stopPropogation() doesn't cancel text-selection. I'm not looking to prevent text selections, but rather to veto them after some short period of time, if certain conditions are met.

• (Python/Pyramid) Better ways to have standard list/form editors?

  I'm working on a number of Pyramid (former Pylons) projects, and often I have the need to display a list of some content (let's say user accounts, log entries or simply some other data). A user should be able to paginate through the list, click on a row and get a form where he/she can edit the contents of that row. Right now I'm always re-inventing the wheel by having Mako templates which use webhelpers for the pagination, Jquery UI for providing a dialog and I craft the editor form and AJAX requests on the client and server side by hand. As you may know, this eats up painfully much time. So what I'm wondering is: Is there a better way of providing lists, editor dialog and server/client communication about this, without having to re-invent the wheel every time? I heard Django takes off a big load of that by providing user accounts and other stuff out of the box; but in my case it's not just about user accounts, it can be any kind of data that is stored on the server-side in a SQL database, which should be able to be edited by a user. • Is hiding content with JavaScript or "text-indent: -9999px" bad for SEO?

  So apparently hiding content using "display: none" is bad for SEO and seen by googlebot as being deceptive. This according to a lot of the posts I read online and questions even on this site. But what if I hide keyword rich text using javascript? A jquery example: $(function() { $('#keywordRichTextContainer').hide(); }); or using visibility hidden: $(function() { $('#keywordRichTextContainer').css({ visibility: 'hidden', position: 'absolute' }); }); Would any of these techniques cause my site to be penalized? If googlebot can't read javascript then if I'm hiding through js it shouldn't know right? What about using "text-indent: -9999px"?

Would it be blackhat SEO to add some hidden text within the anchor that describes where the permalink is pointing?
