  • "Open resource" dialog in Notepad++?

    - by n1313
I am happily using Notepad++ for a long time, but there is one thing that this editor lacks: an "Open resource" dialog, as in Eclipse, that allows opening of files in project folder (and subfolders) by their names. Is there anything like this in N++ world?

Two days ago an excel came up missing from a document library. This document library only had this file and nows it's gone. When I go to All Site Content-Document Librarys it shows that there is still one file in the library. Seems like there is something screwy. Is there anything I can do to get this item to reappear? • PeerApp Scalability

    - by ChaosFreak
William, In response to a question on P2P caching, you answered "PeerApp can do that but probably doesn't suit the scale you are looking at." PeerApp is the most scalable P2P cache in the world, and can handle hundreds of Gb per second of bandwidth. Their largest deployment in Taiwan handles 120Gbps with no problem. The next largest competitor, OverSi, can barely handle a tenth of that. Where do you get your information that PeerApp "doesn't suit scale"?

  • Will any USB DVD reader work with Apple Mac's?

    - by Kev
Following on from this question: Can Apple Macintosh computers boot from a USB volume? Can I use any USB 2.0 DVD drive to boot a Mac from? I had a look around my local PC World today and only the more expensive drives explicitly state on the packaging that they were Mac compatible. Is this just because these products have been through Apple's hardware approval/testing programme, or do Mac's have some special requirement?

  • Vim not restoring screen contents on Debian?

    - by peu ping
I always thought Vim restored the previous contents of the screen upon closing. This allows me to remember what commands I was typing previously and what I wanted to do next. Recently I've been using Debian 6 and Ubuntu (CLIs only) in a VM for a development project and I've been extremely annoyed with how Vim is operating. After I close the file its contents stay on the screen making me second guess whether I'm still in Vim or not, and having to use history to find out what I typed previously. I've been unable to find any solution. Using tput smcup and rmcup for instance does absolutely nothing.

  • Google maps later traffic

    - by bobobobo
Google maps has this feature of showing you how long it will take to get somewhere based on current traffic. But what about history, or asking for a prediction of how long it will take to get somewhere, during rush hour, for example? So, how long will it take to get there on this route if I leave at 5, vs how long it will take if I leave at 3. (A difference of 30 minutes on the road sometimes!) If google maps doesn't provide this service, iis there anywhere that does?

I have not made any changes on the server so I am not sure why I am getting these error messages and is there a way to fix this?. Someone suggested creating empty files from sa11 through sa14 to fix this but I am not sure if this might mess up something .

  • Outside of a web browser, does the Javascript programming language do anything? [closed]

    - by Stom
I often hear people talking about Javascript in conjunction with web browser programming/web page programming and such, and/or form logic, etc. However, outside of a browser, can Javascript source be written and compiled to work outside of a browser, much like C/C++ can work in a terminal window/GUI window with a library? Can I write "Hello World" in Javascript in a console terminal on a modern OS GUI and such like C?

  • why is the address bar black in Google chrome so you cannot see what you're typing ?

    - by Tim
The address bar background color in Google Chrome is black. I cannot see what I'm typing. What's going on? This is a problem when you're typing in a URL you've never used before (so there's no matching history). Type in a URL you've never used before. Imagine someone is giving it to you over the phone. Make a typo somewhere. Use the back arrow to go back and correct it. You cannot see where the cursor is. This just started happening yesterday. I'm on WinXP Pro.

  • Got Ubuntu Server, Now What?

    - by Steve Stifler
As a learning experience I recently downloaded and set up Ubuntu 10.4 Server edition. When I logged in for the first time, all I saw was a terminal. I stared blankly at the screen, wondering what in the world do I do from here. That's my question. How do I configure a server and maintain it from the terminal? Tutorials, books, guides, things like that would be the most useful. Thanks!

  • Klipper interaction improvement

    - by user4035
I have 2 machines: Windows XP and Linux Slackware with KDE 4.5.5. On Windows I installed a very useful program CLCL: clipboard caching utility. When you click Alt-c, it gives you a popup with the list of stuff, added to clipboard. The list is displayed below the cursor. But in KDE I have to move the cursor and click the scissors button to get it. It's a waste of time. Is it possible to make Klipper activate the history list by Alt-c and make it appear below the cursor?

  • Why do 2 excel (2003) files that are exactly the same have different file size?

    - by meme
I have two excel files that are exactly the same (in terms of the content of the file) but differ by quite a margin on filesize. One file is 37.5Kb while the other is 56Kb. The only difference I can see is the filename's. I don't know why there is such a big difference. Is there some sort of history or something that is stored with the file that is not visible to the user? If so, how would you delete this? Thanks for your help.

  • Scrum Master Stephen Forte Teaches Agile Development, Silverlight and BI at GIDS 2010

    - by rajesh ahuja
Great Indian Developer Summit 2010 – Gold Standard for India's Software Developer Ecosystem Bangalore, March 25, 2010: The author of several books on application and database development including Programming SQL Server 2008 and certified Scrum Master Stephen Forte is coming this summer to India's biggest summit for the developer ecosystem - Great Indian Developer Summit. At the summit, Stephen will conduct a workshop guaranteed to give attendees a jump start in taking a certified scrum master exam. Scrum, one of the most popular Agile project management and development methods, which is starting to be adopted at major corporations and on very large projects. After an introduction to the basics of Scrum like project planning and estimation, the Scrum Master, team, product owner and burn down, and of course the daily Scrum, Stephen will show many real world applications of the methodology drawn from his own experience as a Scrum Master. Negotiating with the business, estimation and team dynamics are all discussed as well as how to use Scrum in small organizations, large enterprise environments and consulting environments. Stephen will also discuss using Scrum with virtual teams and an off-shoring environment. He will then take a look at the tools we will use for Agile development, including planning poker, unit testing, and much more. On 20th April at the GIDS.NET Conference, Stephen will also conduct a series of sessions on Microsoft computing technologies. He will teach how to build data driven, n-tier Rich Internet Applications (RIA) with Silverlight 4.0. Line of business applications (LOB) in Silverlight 4.0 are easy by tapping the power of WCF RIA Services, the Silverlight Toolkit, and elevated out of browser support. Stephen's demo centric session will walk you through an example of building a LOB application with Silverlight 4.0. See how Silverlight and WCF RIA Services support domain logic, services, data binding, validation, server based paging, authentication, authorization and much more. Silverlight 4.0 means business. Silverlight runs C# and Visual Basic code, and so it seems natural that a business application might share some code between the Silverlight client and its ASP.NET Web server. You may want to run some code client-side for interactivity, but re-run that code on the server for security or reliability. This is possible, and there are several techniques you can use to accomplish this goal. In Stephen's second talk learn about the various techniques and their pros and cons. Some techniques work better in C#, others in VB. Still others are simpler with a little extra tooling or code-generation. Any serious Silverlight business application will almost certainly face this issue, and this session gets you going fast. In the third talk, Stephen will explain how to properly architect and deploy a BI application using a mix of some exciting new tools and some old familiar ones. He will start with a traditional relational transaction centric database (OLTP) and explore ways to build a data warehouse (OLAP), looking at the star and snowflake schemas. Next he will look at the process of extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) your OLTP data into your data warehouse. Different techniques for ETL will be described and the various tradeoffs will be discussed. Then he will look at using the warehouse for reporting, drill down, and data analysis in Microsoft Excel's PowerPivot 2010. The session will round off by showing how to properly build a cube and build a data analysis application on top of that cube, and conclude by looking at some tools to help with the data visualization process. The GIDS.Web track at Great Indian Developer Summit takes place 21 and 23 April 2010, at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. As one of the longest running independent developer conferences in India, GIDS.Web at the Great Indian Developer Summit 2010 is uniquely positioned to provide a blend of practical, pragmatic and immediately applicable knowledge and a glimpse of the future of technology. During 21 and 23 April 2010, GIDS.Web offers a multi-track conference, workshops, expo show floor, and networking opportunities. The first keynote at GIDS.Web is led by the leading Java EE and Ajax developer, speaker, and author Marty Hall. The best of India's Java and RIA programmers have learnt the subject from Marty's seminal books Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages (first and second editions), More Servlets and JavaServer Pages, and Core Web Programming (first and second editions) from Prentice Hall and Sun Microsystems Press. Marty's keynote address is a comparison of approaches to building rich Internet applications with Ajax. Marty says Ajax development is difficult, and there are several fundamentally different strategies to building Ajaxified Web applications. The keynote address will survey the three most important of these approaches: using an Ajax-enabled JavaScript library such as jQuery, Prototype, Scriptaculous, Dojo, or Ext/JS; using a Web framework such as JSF 2.0 or Struts 2 that has integrated Ajax support; using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) to build "pure Java" Ajax applications. The talk will compare and contrast these three approaches, discussing the types of applications that fit best for each option. Over the course of the summit Marty will conduct several more sessions on "Choosing an Ajax/JavaScript Toolkit: A Comparison of the Most Popular JavaScript Libraries", "Pure Java Ajax: An Overview of GWT 2.0", "Integrated Ajax Support in JSF 2.0" and "Ajax Support in the Prototype JavaScript Library". The second keynote by the head of Adobe's Flash initiative in India, Ramesh Srinivasaraghavan, explores the state of art in web application development and identify trends that could transform the way we create and use web applications. The talk explains how the Adobe Flash Platform has fuelled this revolution with an integrated set of technologies for delivering the most compelling applications, content and video to the widest possible audience. • How can you connect OpenGrok to a SVN repository?

    - by Malcolm Frexner
I was able to install and use opengrok on WinXP using this blog entry http://theflashesofinsight.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/install-opengrok-on-windows/ I now want to index a subversion repository. I checked out a repository to the source folder and can search the files. However the links for history and annotate are not active. I have svn installed and indexing the directory give no warnings or errors. (There was an error when I didnt have the SVN client installed) Is there some configuration needed? • Core Data Model Design Question - Changing "Live" Objects also Changes Saved Objects

    - by mwt
I'm working on my first Core Data project (on iPhone) and am really liking it. Core Data is cool stuff. I am, however, running into a design difficulty that I'm not sure how to solve, although I imagine it's a fairly common situation. It concerns the data model. For the sake of clarity, I'll use an imaginary football game app as an example to illustrate my question. Say that there are NSMO's called Downs and Plays. Plays function like templates to be used by Downs. The user creates Plays (for example, Bootleg, Button Hook, Slant Route, Sweep, etc.) and fills in the various properties. Plays have a to-many relationship with Downs. For each Down, the user decides which Play to use. When the Down is executed, it uses the Play as its template. After each down is run, it is stored in history. The program remembers all the Downs ever played. So far, so good. This is all working fine. The question I have concerns what happens when the user wants to change the details of a Play. Let's say it originally involved a pass to the left, but the user now wants it to be a pass to the right. Making that change, however, not only affects all the future executions of that Play, but also changes the details of the Plays stored in history. The record of Downs gets "polluted," in effect, because the Play template has been changed. I have been rolling around several possible fixes to this situation, but I imagine the geniuses of SO know much more about how to handle this than I do. Still, the potential fixes I've come up with are: 1) "Versioning" of Plays. Each change to a Play template actually creates a new, separate Play object with the same name (as far as the user can tell). Underneath the hood, however, it is actually a different Play. This would work, AFAICT, but seems like it could potentially lead to a wild proliferation of Play objects, esp. if the user keeps switching back and forth between several versions of the same Play (creating object after object each time the user switches). Yes, the app could check for pre-existing, identical Plays, but... it just seems like a mess. 2) Have Downs, upon saving, record the details of the Play they used, but not as a Play object. This just seems ridiculous, given that the Play object is there to hold those just those details. 3) Recognize that Play objects are actually fulfilling 2 functions: one to be a template for a Down, and the other to record what template was used. These 2 functions have a different relationship with a Down. The first (template) has a to-many relationship. But the second (record) has a one-to-one relationship. This would mean creating a second object, something like "Play-Template" which would retain the to-many relationship with Downs. Play objects would get reconfigured to have a one-to-one relationship with Downs. A Down would use a Play-Template object for execution, but use the new kind of Play object to store what template was used. It is this change from a to-many relationship to a one-to-one relationship that represents the crux of the problem. Even writing this question out has helped me get clearer. I think something like solution 3 is the answer. However if anyone has a better idea or even just a confirmation that I'm on the right track, that would be helpful. (Remember, I'm not really making a football game, it's just faster/easier to use a metaphor everyone understands.) Thanks.

  • SQLAlchemy session management in long-running process

    - by codeape
Scenario: A .NET-based application server (Wonderware IAS/System Platform) hosts automation objects that communicate with various equipment on the factory floor. CPython is hosted inside this application server (using Python for .NET). The automation objects have scripting functionality built-in (using a custom, .NET-based language). These scripts call Python functions. The Python functions are part of a system to track Work-In-Progress on the factory floor. The purpose of the system is to track the produced widgets along the process, ensure that the widgets go through the process in the correct order, and check that certain conditions are met along the process. The widget production history and widget state is stored in a relational database, this is where SQLAlchemy plays its part. For example, when a widget passes a scanner, the automation software triggers the following script (written in the application server's custom scripting language): ' wiget_id and scanner_id provided by automation object ' ExecFunction() takes care of calling a CPython function retval = ExecFunction("WidgetScanned", widget_id, scanner_id); ' if the python function raises an Exception, ErrorOccured will be true ' in this case, any errors should cause the production line to stop. if (retval.ErrorOccured) then ProductionLine.Running = False; InformationBoard.DisplayText = "ERROR: " + retval.Exception.Message; InformationBoard.SoundAlarm = True end if; The script calls the WidgetScanned python function: # pywip/functions.py from pywip.database import session from pywip.model import Widget, WidgetHistoryItem from pywip import validation, StatusMessage from datetime import datetime def WidgetScanned(widget_id, scanner_id): widget = session.query(Widget).get(widget_id) validation.validate_widget_passed_scanner(widget, scanner) # raises exception on error widget.history.append(WidgetHistoryItem(timestamp=datetime.now(), action=u"SCANNED", scanner_id=scanner_id)) widget.last_scanner = scanner_id widget.last_update = datetime.now() return StatusMessage("OK") # ... there are a dozen similar functions My question is: How do I best manage SQLAlchemy sessions in this scenario? The application server is a long-running process, typically running months between restarts. The application server is single-threaded. Currently, I do it the following way: I apply a decorator to the functions I make avaliable to the application server: # pywip/iasfunctions.py from pywip import functions def ias_session_handling(func): def _ias_session_handling(*args, **kwargs): try: retval = func(*args, **kwargs) session.commit() return retval except: session.rollback() raise return _ias_session_handling # ... actually I populate this module with decorated versions of all the functions in pywip.functions dynamically WidgetScanned = ias_session_handling(functions.WidgetScanned) Question: Is the decorator above suitable for handling sessions in a long-running process? Should I call session.remove()? The SQLAlchemy session object is a scoped session: # pywip/database.py from sqlalchemy.orm import scoped_session, sessionmaker session = scoped_session(sessionmaker()) I want to keep the session management out of the basic functions. For two reasons: There is another family of functions, sequence functions. The sequence functions call several of the basic functions. One sequence function should equal one database transaction. I need to be able to use the library from other environments. a) From a TurboGears web application. In that case, session management is done by TurboGears. b) From an IPython shell. In that case, commit/rollback will be explicit. (I am truly sorry for the long question. But I felt I needed to explain the scenario. Perhaps not necessary?)

After George died and his wife Hazel moved to Montague to live with her family the building was sold to Robert Patterson . Rob lived in it for a few years, making many improvements then sold it to Kirk McAleer. </p> </div>

  • Quartz Thread Execution Parallel or Sequential?

    - by vikas
We have a quartz based scheduler application which runs about 1000 jobs per minute which are evenly distributed across seconds of each minute i.e. about 16-17 jobs per second. Ideally, these 16-17 jobs should fire at same time, however our first statement, which simply logs the time of execution, of execute method of the job is being called very late. e.g. let us assume we have 1000 jobs scheduled per minute from 05:00 to 05:04. So, ideally the job which is scheduled at 05:03:50 should have logged the first statement of the execute method at 05:03:50, however, it is doing it at about 05:06:38. I have tracked down the time taken by the scheduled job which comes around 15-20 milliseconds. This scheduled job is fast enough because we just send a message on an ActiveMQ queue. We have specified the number of threads of quartz to be 100 and even tried with increasing it to 200 and more, but no gain. One more thing we noticed is that logs from scheduler are coming sequential after first 1 minute i.e. [Quartz_Worker_28] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_29] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_30] <Some log statement> .. .. So it suggesting that after some time quartz is running threads almost sequential. May be this is happening due to the time taken in notifying the job completion to persistence store (which is a separate postgres database in this case) and/or context switching. What can be the reason behind this strange behavior? EDIT: More detailed Log [06/07/12 10:08:37:192][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] org.quartz.plugins.history.LoggingTriggerHistoryPlugin - Trigger [<trigger_name>] fired job [<job_name>] scheduled at: 06-07-2012 10:08:33.458, next scheduled at: 06-07-2012 10:34:53.000 [06/07/12 10:08:37:192][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] <my_package>.scheduler.quartz.ScheduledLocateJob - execute begin--------- ScheduledLocateJob with key: <job_name> started at Fri Jul 06 10:08:37 EDT 2012 [06/07/12 10:08:37:192][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] <my_package>.scheduler.quartz.ScheduledLocateJob <some log statement> [06/07/12 10:08:37:192][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] <my_package>.scheduler.quartz.ScheduledLocateJob <some log statement> [06/07/12 10:08:37:192][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] <my_package>.scheduler.quartz.ScheduledLocateJob <some log statement> [06/07/12 10:08:37:220][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] <my_package>.scheduler.quartz.ScheduledLocateJob - execute end--------- ScheduledLocateJob with key: <job_name> ended at Fri Jul 06 10:08:37 EDT 2012 [06/07/12 10:08:37:220][QuartzScheduler_Worker-34][INFO] org.quartz.plugins.history.LoggingTriggerHistoryPlugin - Trigger [<trigger_name>] completed firing job [<job_name>] with resulting trigger instruction code: DO NOTHING. Next scheduled at: 06-07-2012 10:34:53.000 I am doubting on this section of the above log scheduled at: 06-07-2012 10:08:33.458, next scheduled at: 06-07-2012 10:34:53.000 because this job was scheduled for 10:04:53, but it fired at 10:08:33 and still quartz didn't consider it as misfire. Shouldn't it be a misfire?
