• OpenGL Vertex Array/Buffer Objects

- by sadanjon
Question 1 Do vertex buffer objects created under a certain VAO deleted once that VAO is deleted? An example: glGenBuffers(1, &bufferObject); glGenVertexArrays(1, &VAO); glBindVertexArray(VAO); glBindBuffer(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, bufferObject); glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(someVertices), someVertices, GL_STATIC_DRAW); glEnableVertexAttribArray(positionAttrib); glVertexAttribPointer(positionAttrib, 3, GL_FLOAT, GL_FALSE, 0, NULL); When later calling glDeleteVertexArrays(1, &VAO);, will bufferObject be deleted as well? The reason I'm asking is that I saw a few examples over the web that didn't delete those buffer objects. Question 2 What is the maximum amount of memory that I can allocate for buffer objects? It must be system dependent of course, but I can't seem find an estimation for it. What happens when video RAM isn't big enough? How would I know?

• Initializing a char array through passed pointer segfaults

- by Bitgarden
Ie., why does the following work: char* char_array(size_t size){ return new char[size]; } int main(){ const char* foo = "foo"; size_t len = strlen(foo); char* bar=char_array(len); memset(bar, 0, len+1); } But the following segfaults: void char_array(char* out, size_t size){ out= new char[size]; } int main(){ const char* foo = "foo"; size_t len = strlen(foo); char* bar; char_array(bar, len); memset(bar, 0, len+1); }

• PHP use function return value as array

- by Richard Knop
Why is it that this works: $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cache->load('externalData'); $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cacheMatchesNotPlayed['matchesNotPlayed']; But this doesn't work: $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cache->load('externalData')['matchesNotPlayed']; Is there some reason for it? The second bit is easier to write.

• [C++] Adding a string or char array to a byte vector

- by xeross
I'm currently working on a class to create and read out packets send through the network, so far I have it working with 16bit and 8bit integers (Well unsigned but still). Now the problem is I've tried numerous ways of copying it over but somehow the _buffer got mangled, it segfaulted, or the result was wrong. I'd appreciate if someone could show me a working example. My current code can be seen below. Thanks, Xeross Main #include <iostream> #include <stdio.h> #include "Packet.h" using namespace std; int main(int argc, char** argv) { cout << "#################################" << endl; cout << "# Internal Use Only #" << endl; cout << "# Codename PACKETSTORM #" << endl; cout << "#################################" << endl; cout << endl; Packet packet = Packet(); packet.SetOpcode(0x1f4d); cout << "Current opcode is: " << packet.GetOpcode() << endl << endl; packet.add(uint8_t(5)) .add(uint16_t(4000)) .add(uint8_t(5)); for(uint8_t i=0; i<10;i++) printf("Byte %u = %x\n", i, packet._buffer[i]); printf("\nReading them out: \n1 = %u\n2 = %u\n3 = %u\n4 = %s", packet.readUint8(), packet.readUint16(), packet.readUint8()); return 0; } Packet.h #ifndef _PACKET_H_ #define _PACKET_H_ #include <iostream> #include <vector> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdint.h> #include <string.h> using namespace std; class Packet { public: Packet() : m_opcode(0), _buffer(0), _wpos(0), _rpos(0) {} Packet(uint16_t opcode) : m_opcode(opcode), _buffer(0), _wpos(0), _rpos(0) {} uint16_t GetOpcode() { return m_opcode; } void SetOpcode(uint16_t opcode) { m_opcode = opcode; } Packet& add(uint8_t value) { if(_buffer.size() < _wpos + 1) _buffer.resize(_wpos + 1); memcpy(&_buffer[_wpos], &value, 1); _wpos += 1; return *this; } Packet& add(uint16_t value) { if(_buffer.size() < _wpos + 2) _buffer.resize(_wpos + 2); memcpy(&_buffer[_wpos], &value, 2); _wpos += 2; return *this; } uint8_t readUint8() { uint8_t result = _buffer[_rpos]; _rpos += sizeof(uint8_t); return result; } uint16_t readUint16() { uint16_t result; memcpy(&result, &_buffer[_rpos], sizeof(uint16_t)); _rpos += sizeof(uint16_t); return result; } uint16_t m_opcode; std::vector<uint8_t> _buffer; protected: size_t _wpos; // Write position size_t _rpos; // Read position }; #endif // _PACKET_H_

• Copying a 2D non-space array to another

- by Jay
I'm a total programming newb who started learning java programming this sem at uni. I'm up to a step where i need to copy some elements from one method to another. This program i'm creating is called an L_Game. The question I'm stuck is: the project(Slide other) method should take another slide as a parameter, and copy each non-space cell from this slide into the other slide (i.e. like a projector projecting slides onto a screen. I previously made a constructor with the parameter cells in it and believe i copied it to the project(Slide other) method. But i'm not sure what to do to copy each "non-space cell" With the "for" method or the "if" method? If my question isn't typed correctly or have information missing, please let me know. Any help will be appreciated. (I obviously have no idea with what i'm doing...)

• find nearest match to array of doubles

- by Scott
Given the code below, how do I compare a List of objects's values with a test value? I'm building a geolocation application. I'll be passing in longitude and latitude and would like to have the service answer back with the location closest to those values. I started down the path of converting to a string, and formatting the values down to two decimal places, but that seemed a bit too ghetto, and I'm looking for a more elegant solution. public class Location : IEnumerable { public string label { get; set; } public double lat { get; set; } public double lon { get; set; } //Implement IEnumerable public IEnumerator GetEnumerator() { return (IEnumerator)this; } } [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { private List<Location> myList = new List<Location> { new Location { label="Atlanta Midtown", lon=33.657674, lat=-84.423130}, new Location { label="Atlanta Airport", lon=33.794151, lat=-84.387228}, new Location { label="Stamford, CT", lon=41.053758, lat=-73.530979}, ... } public static int Main(String[] args) { string inLat = "-80.987654"; double dblInLat = double.Parse(inLat); // here's where I would like to find the closest location to the inLat // once I figure out this, I'll implement the Longitude, and I'll be set }

• C++ Template const char array to int

- by Levi Schuck
So, I'm wishing to be able to have a static const compile time struct that holds some value based on a string by using templates. I only desire up to four characters. I know that the type of 'abcd' is int, and so is 'ab','abc', and although 'a' is of type char, it works out for a template<int v> struct What I wish to do is take sizes of 2,3,4,5 of some const char, "abcd" and have the same functionality as if they used 'abcd'. Note that I do not mean 1,2,3, or 4 because I expect the null terminator. cout << typeid("abcd").name() << endl; tells me that the type for this hard coded string is char const [5], which includes the null terminator on the end. I understand that I will need to twiddle the values as characters, so they are represented as an integer. I cannot use constexpr since VS10 does not support it (VS11 doesn't either..) So, for example with somewhere this template defined, and later the last line template <int v> struct something { static const int value = v; }; //Eventually in some method cout << typeid(something<'abcd'>::value).name() << endl; works just fine. I've tried template<char v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } template<char const v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } template<const char v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } All of them build individually, though when I throw in my test, cout << typeid(something2<"abcd">::value).name() << endl; I get 'something2' : invalid expression as a template argument for 'v' 'something2' : use of class template requires template argument list Is this not feasible or am I misunderstanding something?

• How to store array of NSManagedObjects in an NSManagedObject

- by David Tay
I am loading my app with a property list of data from a web site. This property list file contains an NSArray of NSDictionaries which itself contains an NSArray of NSDictionaries. Basically, I'm trying to load a tableView of restaurant menu categories each of which contains menu items. My property list file is fine. I am able to load the file and loop through the nodes structure creating NSEntityDescriptions and am able to save to Core Data. Everything works fine and expectedly except that in my menu category managed object, I have an NSArray of menu items for that category. Later on, when I fetch the categories, the pointers to the menu items in a category is lost and I get all the menu items. Am I suppose to be using predicates or does Core Data keep track of my object graph for me? Can anyone look at how I am loading Core Data and point out the flaw in my logic? I'm pretty good with either SQL and OOP by themselves, but am a little bewildered by ORM. I thought that I should just be able to use aggregation in my managed objects and that the framework would keep track of the pointers for me, but apparently not. NSError *error; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://foo.com"]; NSArray *categories = [[NSArray alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url]; NSMutableArray *menuCategories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (int i=0; i<[categories count]; i++){ MenuCategory *menuCategory = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MenuCategory" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; NSDictionary *category = [categories objectAtIndex:i]; menuCategory.name = [category objectForKey:@"name"]; NSArray *items = [category objectForKey:@"items"]; NSMutableArray *menuItems = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (int j=0; j<[items count]; j++){ MenuItem *menuItem = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MenuItem" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; NSDictionary *item = [items objectAtIndex:j]; menuItem.name = [item objectForKey:@"name"]; menuItem.price = [item objectForKey:@"price"]; menuItem.image = [item objectForKey:@"image"]; menuItem.details = [item objectForKey:@"details"]; [menuItems addObject:menuItem]; } [menuCategory setValue:menuItems forKey:@"menuItems"]; [menuCategories addObject:menuCategory]; [menuItems release]; } if (![[self managedObjectContext] save:&error]) { NSLog(@"An error occurred: %@", [error localizedDescription]); }

• Array of Structs Initialization....

- by user69514
Hi I am working on a program where I have to initialize a deck of cards. I am using a struct to represent a card. However I'm not filling it correctly as I get a bunch of zero's when I display the deck of cards. I believe my mistake is in this line but I'm not sure: struct card temp = {"Clubs", value, false}; The code: void initCards(){ int count = 0; int location = 0; const int hand = 12; //add hearts int value=2; while( count < hand ){ struct card temp = {"Hearts", value, false}; cards[location] = temp; value++; count++; } count = 0; //add diamonts value = 2; while( count < hand ){ struct card temp = {"Diamonds", value, false}; cards[count] = temp; value++; count++; } //add spades count = 0; value = 2; while( count < hand ){ struct card temp = {"Spades", value, false}; cards[count] = temp; value++; count++; } //add clubs count = 0; value = 2; while( count < hand ){ struct card temp = {"Clubs", value, false}; cards[count] = temp; value++; count++; } //print the deck for(int i=0; i<52; i++){ cout << cards[i].type << " " << cards[i].rank << endl; } }

• Direct boost serialization to char array

- by scooterman
Hi all, Boost serialization doc's assert that the way to serialize/deserialize items is using a binary/text archive with a stream on the underlying structure. This works fine if I wan't to use the serialized data as an std::string, but my intention is to convert it directly to a char* buffer. How can I achieve this without creating a temporary string?

• Android onClickListener options and help on creating a non-static array adapter

- by CoderInTraining
I am trying to make an application that gets data dynamically and displays it in a listView. Here is my code that I have with static data. There are a couple of things I want to try and do and can't figure out how. MainActivity.java package text.example.project; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Collections; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.widget.AdapterView; import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView; import android.widget.Toast; public class MainActivity extends ListActivity { //declarations private boolean isItem; private ArrayAdapter<String> item1Adapter; private ArrayAdapter<String> item2Adapter; private ArrayAdapter<String> item3Adapter; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); Collections.sort(ITEM1); Collections.sort(ITEM2); Collections.sort(ITEM3); item1Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM1); item2Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM2); item3Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM3); setListAdapter(item1Adapter); isItem = true; ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { // When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text if (isItem) { //ITEM1.add("another\n\t" + Calendar.getInstance().getTime()); Collections.sort(ITEM1); item2Adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); setListAdapter(item2Adapter); isItem = false; } else { item1Adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); setListAdapter(item1Adapter); isItem = true; } Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), ((TextView) view).getText(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); } // need to turn dynamic static ArrayList<String> ITEM1 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList( "ITEM1-1", "ITEM1-2" )); static ArrayList<String> ITEM2 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList( "ITEM2-1", "ITEM2-2" )); static ArrayList<String> ITEM3 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList("ITEM3-1", "ITEM3-2")); } list_item.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" > </TextView> What I want to do is first pull from a dynamic source. I need to do what is almost exactly like this tutorial... http://androiddevelopement.blogspot.in/2011/06/android-xml-parsing-tutorial-using.html ... however, I can't get the tutorial to work... I also would like to know how I can make the list item clicks so that if I click on "ITEM1-1" it goes to the menu "ITEM2-1" and "ITEM2-2". and if "ITEM1-2" is clicked, then it goes to the menu with "ITEM3-1" and "ITEM3-2"... I am totally a noob at this whole android development thing. So any suggestions would be great!

• Javascript large number array compression

- by gatapia
Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guido Tapia

• Representing a very large array of bits in little memory

- by user614624
Hello, I would like to represent a structure containing 250 M states(1 bit each) somehow into as less memory as possible (100 k maximum). The operations on it are set/get. I cold not say that it's dense or sparse, it may vary. The language I want to use is C. I looked at other threads here to find something suitable also. A probabilistic structure like Bloom filter for example would not fit because of the possible false answers. Any suggestions please?

• Sum of a PHP Array

The following code displays the ordered products individual weight: $weightsql = 'select op.products_name, op.products_quantity , p.products_weight from ' . TABLE_ORDERS_PRODUCTS . ' op left join ' . TABLE_PRODUCTS . ' p on op.products_id = p.products_id where op.products_id = '.$pro['products_id']; $weightq = tep_db_query( $weightsql ); while ($weight = tep_db_fetch_array( $weightq )){ if($category_parent_id != 0)$list_items[] = $weight['products_weight'].' '; } This shows the wieght for each of the products ordered. What I am stuck on is instead of showing seperate weights, I need to show a total weight. For example, if the product was ordered three times, and it weighs 7kg, the code at the moment is showing: Product 7.00 7.00 7.00 How would I make it show the total weight, 21kg?
