• Why does my Windows 8 Pro Hyper-V guest have no internet?

  Trying to get this working on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I created an External Switch Assigned the newly available adapter to a Guest machine with Win 2008 os. My host has internet connection. Host can ping Guest, Guest cannot ping Host. Guest has no internet connection. Pasting the IP of both host and guest. • Dell XPS M1330 - power cable pulled by accident and now it won't turn on

  I have a similar problem to what has been posted on this site about when I plug in my Laptop adapter the green light comes on as expected; but, when I plug it into the laptop it goes out. In my case, I know it's not the adapter because I have 2 and they both experience the same issue. I'm quite certain the problem is a short in the laptop. I was using the laptop today and the power cord was pulled out by accident and now i'm into this predicament. How or what do I check on the laptop to isolate the problem? Thanks!

• Having internet on a VirtualBox

  I am running a linux laptop and I set up a VirtualBox under windows XP. My only problem is the VirtualBox doesn't seem to be connected to internet - When I do the connection diagnosis it tells me there is no connection. I am using an NAT adapter, and I bind the port 80 from my computer to the port 80 of the VirtualBox, and same for the ports 8080, but still no result. I would be grateful is someone could help me to sort this out. EDIT: thinking of it, what is making the problem hard - and painful - is the absence of error message. If I try to use a given adapter to share my computer's connection with the VirtualBox, and it doesn't work, I have no way to know why. So, it would be really helpful if someone could share a way to access this king of information (is there a log file somewhere or a way to run VirtualBox from command line in a verbose mode?).

• How can a Virtualbox host connect to a guest VM when host wireless is disabled / host Ethernet cable is unplugged?

  I have a Virtualbox VM running on a computer connected to Internet via an Ethernet cable. The guest has a network adapter attached to a NAT. 2 ports (22 and 80) are forwarded so that the host can access them respectively on localhost:2222 and localhost:8080. When the Ethernet cable is plugged, both machine (host and guest) can access Internet and the host can access the SSH server/Webserver which ports are forwarded. When I unplug the Ethernet cable from the host, the host can not access the SSH server/Webserver of the guest anymore. Same situation with a Laptop connected to Internet via wireless when I disable the wireless adapter or set a wrong WPA key. My question is: is there a workaround for the host to access the guest services even if its Ethernet cable is unplugged / wireless is not available?

• connecting to a network using route command

  I have a computer with an external IP(192.168.223.220) and also an internal address (10.1.1.20) in order to connect to some servers that don't have external addresses only 10.1.1.xx . in order to connect to these servers from other machines I used the following command "route ADD 10.1.1.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.223.220" and than I was able to connect to the servers using there 10.1.1.xx address. The problem is that the hard disk of main server(192.168.223.220) died and was replaced and after the that I am not able to connect to the servers as before, the route command succeeds and I can ping 10.1.1.20 but not the other servers. • Citrix Xen VM's lose networking

  My client has a XenServer 6.0.2 installation with 2 Window Server 2008 R2 virtual machines. Whenever the virtual machines are rebooted they lose their IP settings (IP address, subnet, gateway). Each time after a reboot I need to login to each VM via XenCenter and re-apply the required static IP settings. This causes issues with connected iSCSI drives within each VM - drives need to be reconnected after each reboot. • DH61AG's mythical 2 pin 19v power socket and is too low of votage bad?

  I have an intel dh61ag motherboard. It has an external 19v power adapter. It also has a 1x2 pin 19VDC internal power connector. Now I cannot find a psu or adapter or anything that will plug into this. In an intel forum, one person said that he plugged half of a 2x2 psu connector in and it worked. Since this would deliver 12v into a socket that asks for 19v, I suspect that this is a bad idea. I don't know much about hardware. Can anyone explain to me why this would be a bad idea?

• Internet connection issues after installing Windows Phone 8 SDK

  first of all I must admit, that I'm not good in all this network stuff. I am using Windows 8 OS. On my laptop (Lenovo G570) I have installed Windows Phone 8 SDK and shortly after this I started having weird issues with internet connection. When I start my laptop, internet usually works fine, but after a few minutes it starts slowing down so much, that I'm not able to open a single page. Rebooting doesn't work, after several disabling and enabling network adapter, it usually works again for a few minutes and then again it stops. I'm sure it has something to do with Windows Phone 8 SDK, because problems started with this. With SDK there was also installed "vEthernet (Internal Ethernet Port Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch)" network adapter. It is worth to note that problems occur mostly in my school network, not at home. Both at home and school I am using Wi-Fi connection. I hope the information given are enough to help me. • Upgraded to a GTX 580 - no video signal on boot

  I have: New Corsair 550w PSU (should be more than enough) AsRock H61M u3s3 mobo (with latest updated BIOS) Just replaced my faithful HD 7790 GPU with a refurbished EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB. When I boot, it sounds like the PC boots to windows, and the 580's fan is spinning, but I can't get any video signal from the card. Old card and integrated graphics still work fine (when I replace and use those instead). I am using the DVI ports on the card with a DVI-VGA adapter until I can get my hands on a mini HDMI adapter tomorrow. Anyone ever heard of a GPU needed something special to make the VGA signal work? Hold down a key on startup or something? I can't even find a manual for this card.

  The past few days, my internet browsing has become very poor. It's not a matter of speed, as a speed test will give at least 15Mbps. It seems as if my laptop has a hard time actually connecting to the sites. I've found a possible culprit, but don't know why it would affect anything: Going to adapter settings and disabling ipv6, but leaving ipv4, my browsing is back to normal. Re-enabling ipv6 brings back the issue. This is strange though, because I have always had ipv6 enabled. Moreover, using sites to test ipv6 compatibility, I fail with ipv6 enabled on my adapter, and pass when it's disabled. Ideas about why this is happening, and how to fix it?

  I've a server with vshpere running and one vm with Windows 2008 r2. I'm hosting a website on this vm. But I want to try to add another domain. Now I have 3 ip-adresses. 1 for vspehere. 1 for vm. 1 for 2nd domain. When I add a new site and edit the bindings to the last ip-adress (2nd domain) it doesn't work. I've added also a new network adapter on vsphere and edited in the windows network adapter. Could anyone help me out with this. Sorry for my bad english I hope you will understand it.

• How do I get my XFX Radeon HD 7870 to work with 3 monitors using HDMI, DVI, and Mini DisplayPort?

  I bought a XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 and set it up using the HDMI, DVI and Mini DisplayPort (using an Apple mDP-to-VGA adapter). I hooked it up, installed the drivers and rebooted. The image came up on the third monitor in a weird resolution. Why did this happen and how can I fix it? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and the system is completely updated. Side note: When I disconnect the Mini DisplayPort adapter it works fine, however for my work I need 3-4 monitors.

• How can I check that I'm not frying the chipset on my 945 gclf?

  I'm running an old 945 gclf as a home server. Its an odd little system which has a passively cooled single core atom 230 processor, and a small heatsink/fan combo over the chipset. lm-sensors/sensors detects one temperature sensor which I guess is the processor. coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +38.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) The fan on it is making rather horrible noises and I am considering unplugging it or using a speed reducer. There's also a risk it may fail anyway. Is there any way I can monitor the temperatures of the chipset or be warned of any issues with it? Is there anything specific I can watch out for that would indicate trouble?

• EC2 Windows 2008 VM import Not Working

  I am trying to upload a Windows 2008 SP2 server image to Amazon EC2, but once the process is complete, I can't connect to it. I had ops export a VMDK from our datacenter. The image appeared to have a fixed IP, so I loaded it in VMWare player and enabled DHCP. I uploaded it following amazon's instructions: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/vmimport/ I start the new instance and try to RDP to the public DNS; connection fails. My two thoughts are: Loading it in VMWare player messed it up somehow, since the instructions say use an ESX image. The image they made me had the wrong network adapter type. The image has an Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT adapter using the E1G60I32.sys driver.

• Hyper-V share a folder between host and instance

  I have a hyper-v server and several VM's (Virtual Machines). All the VM's are connected to an external network. I have tried to share a folder on the host and connect via the VM, I can do this but I'm prompted for a user name and password (as you would expect). I do not want to enable the "Everyone" group permissions as the physical host server is on a network of other servers. I have created a new virtual internal network in Hyper-V and given it's adapter a static ip of 33.0.0.100. I have added the virtual adapter to one of the VM's and set to IP to 33.0.0.2 (as advised here). Again this seems to work but I'm still prompted for a user name and password. Am I on the right lines here? I just want to share a directory from the host to the vm's without exposing the share to other servers on the network.

• Windows 7 computer apparently connected to working wireless network but can't access router page or internet

  I can consistently connect successfully to both the router and the internet using both my phone and two different computers which strongly suggests that the issue is at the desktop end. Only my Windows 7 desktop machine has stopped getting internet connectivity. It manages to connect to the router's network using the Windows 7 wireless dialog, but can't access either the router configuration page (192.168.1.1) or the internet in general once connected. The strange thing is the wireless network icon in the notification bar shows a full strength signal, sometimes with the yellow warning triangle. • Does Asus F8SV supports 1920*1080 resolution through DVI output? [closed]

  Devices: Asus F8Sv Laptop (Windows 7 ultimate, GeForce 8600m GT, display driver is 301.42, detected and downloaded from nvidia.com, VGA and DVI output interface) Gateway 23 inches LCD monitor (VGA, DVI-D with HDCP, and HDMI input) 18 pins DVI cable, VGA cable, both new. Problems: When connect laptop to monitor by VGA, resolution is automatically adapted to 1920*1080; but when using DVI connection, resolution on monitor is fixed to 1024*768, which is lower than my laptop default 1280*800. The maximum resolution in windows control panel is only 1024*768, while the Nvidia control panel provides options 1920*1080p and 1920*1080i, but clicking apply button does not work, the resolution just can not change. Possibly reason I guess: GeForce 8600m GT does not support 1920*1080 resolution through DVI outputs. Can anyone confirm it or give the real reason? edit: Problem solved by buying a HDMI to DVI-D adapter. Using this adapter and a HDMI cable, I can now enjoy 1080p movie.

• Question about how to use strong typed dataset in N-tier application for .NET

  Hello All, I need some expert advice on strong typed data sets in ADO.NET that are generated by the Visual Studio. Here are the details. Thank you in advance. I want to write a N-tier application where Presentation layer is in C#/windows forms, Business Layer is a Web service and Data Access Layer is SQL db. So, I used Visual Studio 2005 for this and created 3 projects in a solution. project 1 is the Data access layer. In this I have used visual studio data set generator to create a strong typed data set and table adapter (to test I created this on the customers table in northwind). The data set is called NorthWindDataSet and the table inside is CustomersTable. project 2 has the web service which exposes only 1 method which is GetCustomersDataSet. This uses the project1 library's table adapter to fill the data set and return it to the caller. To be able to use the NorthWindDataSet and table adapter, I added a reference to the project 1. project 3 is a win forms app and this uses the web service as a reference and calls that service to get the data set. In the process of building this application, in the PL, I added a reference to the DataSet generated above in the project 1 and in form's load I call the web service and assign the received DataSet from the web service to this dataset. But I get the error: "Cannot implicitly convert type 'PL.WebServiceLayerReference.NorthwindDataSet' to 'BL.NorthwindDataSet' e:\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\DataSetWebServiceExample\PL\Form1.cs". Both the data sets are same but because I added references from different locations, I am getting the above error I think. So, what I did was I added a reference to project 1 (which defines the data set) to project 3 (the UI) and used the web service to get the DataSet and assing to the right type, now when the project 3 (which has the web form) runs, I get the below runtime exception. "System.InvalidOperationException: There is an error in XML document (1, 5058). --- System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaException: Multiple definition of element 'http://tempuri.org/NorthwindDataSet.xsd:Customers' causes the content model to become ambiguous. A content model must be formed such that during validation of an element information item sequence, the particle contained directly, indirectly or implicitly therein with which to attempt to validate each item in the sequence in turn can be uniquely determined without examining the content or attributes of that item, and without any information about the items in the remainder of the sequence." I think this might be because of some cross referenceing errors. My question is, is there a way to use the visual studio generated DataSets in such a way that I can use the same DataSet in all layers (for reuse) but separate the Table Adapter logic to the Data Access Layer so that the front end is abstracted from all this by the web service? If I have hand write the code I loose the goodness the data set generator gives and also if there are columns added later I need to add it by hand etc so I want to use the visual studio wizard as much as possible. thanks for any help on this. sb

  Hi, I'm trying to recreate the UI screen called 'My Places' that is used in the Weather Channel app. I'd attach a screenshot of the screen, but I can't seem to do it here. It seems they're using two listviews one on top of the other, but I'm not sure for certain. Could anybody confirm this for me? If they are doing this, how is this done?   My computer previously ran Ubuntu 10.4. After upgrading to 13.4, my Epson scanner no longer can be found by the system. This would work seamlessly in Mediator and BPMN as well.In order to configure the JMSAdapter Request-Reply, please follow these steps:1) Drag and drop a JMSAdapter onto the "External References" swim lane in your composite editor. 2) Enter default values for the first few screens in the JMS Adapter wizard till you hit the screen where the wizard prompts you to enter the operation name. Select "Request-Reply" as the "Operation Type" and Asynchronous as "Operation Name".3) Select the Request and Reply queues in the following screens of the wizard. • Unity 3D (with Nvidia driver) becomes very slow and laggy

  How can I prevent my Unity 3D desktop from becoming slow after a while, given that I have an Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 graphics in TwinView mode? The desktop starts out fast on login, but becomes slow / lagging / hesitant / high latency after a while, symptoms being spikes in CPU usage by /usr/bin/X whenever I cause any graphical activity with the mouse or keyboard (e.g. typing, changing tabs, dragging windows). The desktop remains slow even with all windows (except htop in Terminal) and extraneous processes killed. Detail: Changing tabs in Terminal takes about a second, and X spikes to 76% CPU. As I type into Firefox, X spikes to 95% CPU. Dragging Termiinal window, X goes to 70% CPU. Basically, every graphical action sends CPU usage of X through the roof. Device: Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 Driver package: binary driver nvidia-current-updates (280.13-0ubuntu5) Dual Monitors: Pair of DELL UltraSharp 1908FP in TwinView (X screen 2560x1024) OS: Fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 Desktop with all updates. This may be issue 737349. Funniest thing is that Nouveau wiki says that XRandR 1.2 dual-monitor is supported so it should work with a second monitor.
