  • Import Data from Excel Spreadsheet or CVS into MySQL

    - by Kelly Roper
I have a spreadsheet which really has only one complicated table. I basically convert the spreadsheet to a cvs and use a groovy script to generate the INSERT scripts. However, I cannot do this with a table that has 28 fields with data within some of the fields on the spreadsheet that make importing into the CVS even more complicated. So the fields in the new CVS are not differentiated properly or my script has not accounted for it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better approach to do this? Thanks.

  • Oracle UTL_FILE - multiple rows in excel for a single cell

I have a requirement to display the below in a csv file which is generated using UTL_FILE package of PL/SQL. • Excel isn't reading sql exported csv properly

    - by mhopkins321
I have a batch file that calls sqlcmd to run a command and then export the data as a csv. When viewed in a cell the trasancted date for example shows 35:30.0 but if you click on it the formula bar shows 1/1/1900 2:45:00 PM. I need the full timestamp to show in the cell. Any ideas? The batch file is the following sqlcmd -S server -U username -P password -d database -i "D:\path\sqlScript.sql" -s "," > D:\path\report.csv -I -W -k 1 The script is the following. Now I currently have them cast as varchars, but that's simply because i've tried to change it a bit. Varchar doesn't work either. SET NOCOUNT ON; select top(10)BO.Status, cast(tradeDate AS varchar) AS Trade_Date, CAST(closingTime AS varchar) AS Closing_Time, CAST(openingTime AS varchar) AS openingTime FROM GIANT COMPLICATED JOINS OF ALL SORTS OF TABLES

  • Visual Studio, .NET Framework, and language versions

    - by Scott Dorman
Every so often a question comes up about how Visual Studio, the .NET Framework, and a .NET programming language relate to each other. Mostly, these questions have to do with versions. The reality is that these are actually three different “products” that are versioned independently of each other but are related. Looking at how Visual Studio, the .NET Framework version, and the CLR versions relate to each other results in the following: Visual Studio CLR .NET Framework Visual Studio .NET (Ranier) 1.0.3705 1.0 Visual Studio 2003 (Everett) 1.1.4322 1.1 Visual Studio 2005 (Whidbey) 2.0.50727 2.0 Visual Studio 2005 with .NET 3.0 Extensions 2.0.50727 2.0, 3.0 Visual Studio 2008 (Orcas) 2.0.50727 2.0 SP1, 3.0 SP1, 3.5 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 2.0.50727 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1 Visual Studio 2010 (Hawaii) 4.0.30319 4.0 The actual Visual Studio version numbers are: Product Name Version Ship Date Visual Studio .NET 7.0.???? 02/2002 Visual Studio .NET 2002 SP1 7.0.????   Visual Studio 2003 7.1.???? 04/2003 Visual Studio 2003 SP1 7.1.6030 09/13/2006 Visual Studio 2005 8.0.5072   Visual Studio 2005 SP1   12/14/2006 Visual Studio 2008 9.0.21022.8 11/19/2007 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 9.0.30729.1   Visual Studio 2010 10.0.30319.1 04/12/2010 (For those entries that are missing information, it simply means that I didn’t already know it and/or couldn’t easily find it online.) So far, everything seems fairly reasonable and isn’t terribly difficult to keep coordinated. However, when you start trying to find language versions and how those relate to .NET Framework, CLR, or Visual Studio releases it becomes more difficult. The breakdown for the programming languages that are part of Visual Studio are: Framework CLR Language     C# VB F# 1.0 1.0.3705 1.0 7.0 - 1.1 1.1.4322 1.1 7.1 - 2.0 2.0.50727 2.0 8.0 - 3.0 2.0.50727 2.0 8.0 - 3.5 2.0.50727 2.0 9.0 - 4.0 4.0.30319 4.0 10.0 2.0   Technorati Tags: Visual Studio,.NET

  • Java POI 3.6 XWPF usage guidelines (reading content of docx file)

    - by Mr CooL
    I assume the following objects should be used to read contents of DOCX file: XWPFDocument XWPFWordExtractor However, somewhere the compiler warns me from not including the correct libraries needed in classpath. I think I'm kinda lost for not knowing which jar file is the right one to include for this since there are so many jar files (POI libraries). My project so far involve in reading doc and docx files as part of the project. I've managed to read the contents of doc file. However, for docx file, I'm still having problem with that. Can anyone show the guidelines in terms of the codes and libraries needed (jar files) to read the content of docx file? I'm trying to limit the libraries need to be added on into project since I need to read doc and docx only. The following works for doc: fs = new POIFSFileSystem(new FileInputStream(fileName)); HWPFDocument doc = new HWPFDocument(fs); WordExtractor we = new WordExtractor(doc); String[] p = we.getParagraphText();

  • How to use jxl open file turn off gridlines and save

    - by sally
I am new to jxl, but I have what I think is a pretty simple requirement. I want to take an existing .xls file with three tabs, turn off the gridlines on all 3, and then save it again. It looks from the API like there is a function to handle gridlines setPrintGridLines(boolean b) I would love it if someone could give me sample code - or a link pointing me in the right direction - on how to do this. Thank you in advance Here is what I've tried (bear with me, like I said I'm brand new to jxl) WorkbookSettings ws = new WorkbookSettings(); WritableWorkbook workbook = Workbook.createWorkbook(new File(xlsFile), ws); WritableSheet[] w = workbook.getSheets(); for ( WritableSheet sheet : w ) { sheet.getSettings().setPrintGridLines(false); } workbook.write(); workbook.close(); I get the error Could not generate XLS. Index: 0, Size: 0 but I may be totally off base in what I am trying

  • VBA-Sorting the data in a listbox, sort works but data in listbox not changed

    - by Mike Clemens
A listbox is passed, the data placed in an array, the array is sort and then the data is placed back in the listbox. The part that does work is putting the data back in the listbox. Its like the listbox is being passed by value instead of by ref. Here's the sub that does the sort and the line of code that calls the sort sub. Private Sub SortListBox(ByRef LB As MSForms.ListBox) Dim First As Integer Dim Last As Integer Dim NumItems As Integer Dim i As Integer Dim j As Integer Dim Temp As String Dim TempArray() As Variant ReDim TempArray(LB.ListCount) First = LBound(TempArray) ' this works correctly Last = UBound(TempArray) - 1 ' this works correctly For i = First To Last TempArray(i) = LB.List(i) ' this works correctly Next i For i = First To Last For j = i + 1 To Last If TempArray(i) > TempArray(j) Then Temp = TempArray(j) TempArray(j) = TempArray(i) TempArray(i) = Temp End If Next j Next i ! data is now sorted LB.Clear ! this doesn't clear the items in the listbox For i = First To Last LB.AddItem TempArray(i) ! this doesn't work either Next i End Sub Private Sub InitializeForm() ' There's code here to put data in the list box Call SortListBox(FieldSelect.CompleteList) End Sub Thanks for your help.

  • Changing array values in a VBA dictionary

    - by Pawan Jain
Hi I have a piece of code that does not seem to do what it is expected to do. VBA Arrays are mutable by all means, but it seems that when they are stored into a Dictionary as values of some keys, they are not mutable anymore. Any ideas? Sub foo() Dim mydict As New Dictionary mydict.Add "A", Array(1, 2, 3) MsgBox mydict("A")(1) ' The above shows 2, which is fine mydict("A")(1) = 34 MsgBox mydict("A")(1) ' The above also shows 2, which is not fine End Sub

  • POI performance

    - by The Machine
I am using POI in my J2EE web application to generate a workbook. However, i find that POI takes around 3 mins to create a workbook with 25K rows(with around 15 columns each). Is this a POI performance issue , or is it justified to take that much of time? Are there other APIs known for better performance ?

  • Why does VBA Find loop fail when called from Evaluate?

    - by Abiel
I am having some problems running a find loop inside of a subroutine when the routine is called using the Application.Evaluate or ActiveSheet.Evaluate method. For example, in the code below, I define a subroutine FindSub() which searches the sheet for a string "xxx". The routine CallSub() calls the FindSub() routine using both a standard Call statement and Evaluate. When I run Call FindSub, everything will work as expected: each matching address gets printed out to the immediate window and we get a final message "Finished up" when the code is done. However, when I do Application.Evaluate "FindSub()", only the address of the first match gets printed out, and we never reach the "Finished up" message. In other words, an error is encountered after the Cells.FindNext line as the loop tries to evaluate whether it should continue, and program execution stops without any runtime error being printed. I would expect both Call FindSub and Application.Evaluate "FindSub()" to yield the same results in this case. Can someone explain why they do not, and if possible, a way to fix this? Thanks. Note: In this example I obviously do not need to use Evaluate. This version is simplified to just focus on the particular problem I am having in a more complex situation. Sub CallSub() Call FindSub Application.Evaluate "FindSub()" End Sub Sub FindSub() Dim rngFoundCell As Range Dim rngFirstCell As Range Set rngFoundCell = Cells.Find(What:="xxx", after:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, _ LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _ MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False) If Not rngFoundCell Is Nothing Then Set rngFirstCell = rngFoundCell Do Debug.Print rngFoundCell.Address Set rngFoundCell = Cells.FindNext(after:=rngFoundCell) Loop Until (rngFoundCell Is Nothing) Or (rngFoundCell.Address = rngFirstCell.Address) End If Debug.Print "Finished up" End Sub
