• Noob-Ready Cython Tutorials

  I know a bunch of scripting languages, (python, ruby, lua, php) but I don't know any compiled languages like C/C++ , I wanted to try and speed up some python code using cython, which is essentially a python - C compiler, aimed at creating C extensions for python. Basically you code in a stricter version of python which compiles into C - native code. here's the problem, I don't know C, yet the cython documentation is aimed at people who obviously already know C (nothing is explained, only presented), and is of no help to me, I need to know if there are any good cython tutorials aimed at python programmers, or if I'm gonna have to learn C before I learn Cython. bear in mind I'm a competent python programmer, i would much rather learn cython from the perspective of the language I'm already good at, rather than learn a whole new language in order to learn cython. 1) PLEASE don't recommend psyco edit: ANY information that will help understand the oficial cython docs is useful information

• Go import error while trying to import web.go package after using goinstall

  With halfdans advice, I was successfully able to use goinstall github.com/hoisie/web.go without any errors after installing git first. However, now when I try to compile the sample code given, go is not finding the web package. I get the error, main.go:4: can't find import: web On this code package main import ( "web" ) func hello(val string) string { return "hello " + val } func main() { web.Get("/(.*)", hello) web.Run("0.0.0.0:9999") } Is there something special I need to do in order for it to recognize the package? I found the package source at $GOROOT/src/pkg/github.com/hoisie/web.go/web. I tried that path as the import and it still did not like that.

  I'm interested in writing a visualization program for the road data in the 2009 Tiger/Line Shapefiles. I'd like to draw the line data to display all the roads for my county. The ESRI Shapefile or simply a shapefile is a popular geospatial vector data format for geographic information systems software. It is developed and regulated by ESRI as a (mostly) open specification for data interoperability among ESRI and other software products.1 A "shapefile" commonly refers to a collection of files with ".shp", ".shx", ".dbf", and other extensions on a common prefix name (e.g., "lakes.*"). The actual shapefile relates specifically to files with the ".shp" extension, however this file alone is incomplete for distribution, as the other supporting files are required. Does anyone know of existing libraries for parsing and reading in the line data for Shapefiles?

  When I first found out that Mercurial tracked files and not directories, I was a bit disappointed. (This means you can't represent an empty directory in the repo.) However, it doesn't seem to be an issue in practice, and makes some things a tad easier for me. How about other SCM systems? (Edit this post to add them.)   Hi ! What CI server and Configuration Management tools I should use together for a truly development and deploy maintenance. There isn't the de facto rails sustainable environment, is there? Some assumptions: • code control version ok - git (de facto tool) • test framework ok - whatever (rspec is my choice) • code coverage and analysis ok - whatever (metric-fu, for example) • server stack ok - (Passenger for example) • issue tracker (RedMine) • etc, ... I'm developing an application with Hibernate 3.5 and Spring 3.0 Pros: Good documentation Easy configuration and helpful logs Popularity - wide community Some extensions to JPA Some additional Tools - JBoss Tools for Eclipse, hbm2ddl, generating static metamodel etc... Cons: Bugs! (Sequences, collections etc...) Lots of reatures are doubled with "pure" Hibernate. There's a mess in legacy Hibernate and JPA annotations. I'm considering to switch to EclipseLink. What do You think ? Edit: I've tried EclipseLink and have very bad experiences. It seems like EclipseLink needs LoadTimeWeaver and likes to run on OSGi platform rather than simple Jetty or Tomcat environment. I just don't have time for all this configuration stuff.

Add a user who really badly wants to avoid the requirement of an installer with the necessary privileges to write to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I've seem bits of evidence that MS has created some sort of trick for shadowing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT from HKCU. Is this, in fact, possible? If so, can this be installed as a non-privileged MSI, or does it have to be arranged otherwise? And, finally, what's the minimum version of Windows required?

• Distance by sea calculator, intermediate coordinates?

  How do I calculate distance between 2 coordinates by sea? I also want to be able to draw a route between the two coordinates. Only solution I found so far is to split a map into pixels, identify each pixel as LAND or SEA and then try to find the path using A* algorithm. Then transform pixels to relative coordinates. There are some software packages I could buy but none have online extensions. A service that calculates distances between sea ports and plots the path on a map is searates.com

• Trying to add trailing slash with htaccess, results in a absolute path

  What I'm trying to achive is to have all urls on my page look like http://domain.com/page/, no extensions, but a trailing slash. If a user happends to write http://domain.com/page or http://domain.com/page.php it will redirect to the first url. After some googling i found this code, and it's close to working, but when you leave out the trailing slash in your request the url becomes something like http://domain.com/Users/"..."/page/ and therefor returns a 404. • error when installing mysql ruby gem on OSX 10.6.3

  So I am getting the same issue as mentioned here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1366746/gem-install-mysql-failure-in-snow-leopard But I haven't been able to get it fixed using the answers on this link. Here's a brief history - I had MAMP on my machine, but now I downloaded the latest MySQL from mysql.com and installed version 5.1.46 this new version runs fine and client "mysql" is able to connect and I also have XCode v3.2.1, since someone mentioned that it can cause issues. Here's the error - **Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing mysql: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config mkmf.rb can't find header files for ruby at /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/ruby.h Gem files will remain installed in /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1 for inspection. • Get seconds since epoch in any POSIX compliant shell

  I'd like to know if there's a way to get the number of seconds since the UNIX epoch in any POSIX compliant shell, without resorting to non-POSIX languages like perl, or using non-POSIX extensions like GNU awk's strftime function. Here are some solutions I've already ruled out... date +%s // Doesn't work on Solaris I've seen some shell scripts suggested before, which parse the output of date then derive seconds from the formatted gregorian calendar date, but they don't seem to take details like leap seconds into account. GNU awk has the strftime function, but this isn't available in standard awk. I could write a small C program which calls the time function, but the binary would be specific to a particular architecture. Is there a cross platform way to do this using only POSIX compliant tools? I'm tempted to give up and accept a dependency on perl, which is at least widely deployed. perl -e 'print time' // Cheating (non-POSIX), but should work on most platforms

• VS2010 converted project invalid reference

  Opening a .Net 2 project in VS2010 it converts the project without any issues BUT when I attempt to build it fails. The reason is that in VS2005 a reference was added to System.Web.Extensions which is a .Net 3.5 assembly. Now VS2005 never complained at this and quite happily worked but VS2010 is far more strict and won't allow it. I've tried changing the targeted framework to .Net 3.5 but I get another situation there where the web page is never displayed, it simply hangs not even getting to Applicatin_OnStart. Any help either on adding the reference with .Net 2 as target framework (prefered option for time) or getting the .Net 3.5 version to work would be greatly appreciated.

• Rails - how to use a plugin from github (how to install, utilize, etc)

  I'm trying to install a couple of different plugins for my rails 3 app. I cd to '/vendor/plugins/', then type git clone the_git_src_url. I see the files in the /vendor/plugins/ directory. However when I try to use any of the tags provided by the plugin I get uninitialized constant ContentsController::HTMLToTextileParser PriceTag and html2textile are the two plugins I'm trying to use. This is what triggers the error above: <%= PriceTag.html_to_textile(@content.desc) %> I'm working in development, I've tried to restart the server. Is there something I'm missing?

  When I try rake db:migrate, I get the following error: !!! The bundled mysql.rb driver has been removed from Rails 2.2. Please install the mysql gem and try again: gem install mysql. rake aborted! no such file to load -- mysql And when I try to "gem install mysql" Building native extensions. This could take a while... • Are there tools that would be suitable for maintaining a changelog for a Cabal Haskell package?

  I'm working fast and furiously on a new Haskell package for compiler writers. I'm going through many minor version numbers daily, and the Haskell packaging system, Cabal, doesn't seem to offer any tools for updating version numbers or for maintaining a change log. (Logs are going into git but that's not visible to anyone using the package.) I would kill for something equivalent to Debian's uupdate or dch/debchange tools. Does anyone know of general-purpose tools that could be used to increment version numbers automatically and add an entry to a change log?

• Using SCons as a build engine for distutils

  I have a python package with some C code needed to build an extension (with some non-trivial building needs). I have used SCons as my build system because it's really good and flexible. I'm looking for a way to compile my python extensions with SCons ready to be distributed with distutils. I want that the user simply types setup.py install and get the extension compiled with SCons instead of the default distutils build engine. An idea that comes to mind is to redefine build_ext command in distutils, but I can't find extensive documentation for it. Any suggestion?

  I am writing some Selenium tests and I need to be able to find an ancestor of a WebElement that I have already found. • 2 way synchronization of in-house gitosis repositories server with Github repositories

  We use gitosis as our local in-house shared repository and also have a private Github account that mirrors our local repository. If one does a git push to the in-house repository the post-update hook updates the Github repository. How can I make this two way without causing "loops"? I.e. if someone pushes to the Github repository, I would like it to also update the in-house gitosis repository. A pointer to an example of how to do it would be greatly appreciated. Or if there are recommendations of alternatives to gitosis that would make this kind of thing easy, I would consider migrating to that.

  I seem to have run into a bit of an issue. I am busy creating an app, and over the last few weeks setup my server to use Git, mod_wsgi to host this app. Since deploying it, everything seems to be running smoothly however, I had to go through all my files and insert the absolute url of the project to make sure it works fine. on my local machine from registration.models import UserRegistration on server from myapp.registration.models import UserRegistration Am I doing something wrong? And this has also caused an issue for me where I cannot access my django admin interface. All i get is this: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration Exception Value: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration As far as I am concerned my app has all the relevant urls, but it does not seem to work. • OpenCart Service Scheduling

  I am looking to develop an extension to OpenCart which will allow me to both sell products and sell scheduled services. For the scheduled services, I would like to have the storefront interface change so the customer sees a calendar. It would be Nirvana for the calendar to show only available dates/times, but at the very least they should see a calendar. Then, on the administrative side, there should be a place where there is a list of desired dates/times for scheduled services. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of community-developed extensions which do this, or come close? If not, any recommendations for how to accomplish this properly are welcome. Thanks in advance.

• SSRS2008: LocalReport export to HTML / fragment

  I need local RDL report to be exported to HTML, preferably HTML fragment. In 2005 it wasn't officially supported but there was a trick. In SSRS2008 they seem to drop this support (there's no HTML extension in the supported extensions when enumerating using reflection) and use RPL instead which is a binary format that I doubt someone will be happy to parse. Actually it's doesn't seem to be about HTML at all. Now, is there a way to render HTML using SSRS2008 local report? Notice that I use VS2008 but with reporting assemblies installed from VS2010 Beta 2 reportviewer.

• Free static checker for C99 code

  I am looking for a free static checker for C99 code (including GCC extensions) with the ability to explicitly say "these preprocessor macros are always defined." I need that last part because I am compiling embedded code for a single target processor. The compiler (Microchip's C32, GCC based) sets a macro based on the selected processor, which is then used in the PIC32 header files to select a processor-specific header file to include. cppcheck therefore fails because it detects the 30 different #ifdefs used to select one of the many possible PIC32 processors, tries to analyse all possible combinations of these plus all other #defines, and fails. For example, if splint could process C99 code, I would use splint -D__PIC32_FEATURE_SET__=460 -D__32MX460F512L__ \ -D__LANGUAGE_C__ -I/path/to/my/includes source.c
