  In this blog I will explain how to perform Entity Object ( EO ) Extension.As a prerequisite please read my previous blog.I am doing this exercise based on PL/SQL EO. Following attributes are part of FndUserEO. Here I will add a validation to UserName attribute "Length should be > 5". Following steps need to perform. 1) Download all files of  "Entity Object Based on PL/SQL" to JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects and JDEV_USER_HOME/myclasses.If you want to see the content of source java file decompile it and save it in JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects. 2) Create new Entity Object XXFndUserEO as follows. Include all attributes of parent EO. 3) Add the validation code snippet to XXFndUserEOImpl.java as follows. 4) Create the substitution as follows. 5) Migrate files to $JAVA_TOP. xxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEOImpl.javaxxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEO.xml 6) Migrate the substitution.. 7) Bounce the server. 8) Verify the substitution has applied properly. Access Create User Page and create a User. You can see the validation message if user name length is less than 5. Give User Name as XXCUST4 and verify the table.   The FND_USER has created successfully.

• Update Manager got stuck (but not frozen) while installing downloaded updates. What should I do?

  I have just gotten my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS desktop computer reassembled after a trip back home and connected it to my parent's wireless Internet connection. The connection seems quite shaky (disconnects half the time, likely an ongoing issue with the wireless card I have installed), and it struggled to download updates because of the constant interruptions. Eventually, it managed to download the updated packages and started installing them. I got up and left it to do its work. When I came back, I saw it was still having trouble staying connected to the wireless (no surprise there), but then I noticed that it seemed like Update Manager had stopped making progress on the installation. I opened the Details pane to see what it was last doing: My guess was that the installation script for flashplugin-installer couldn't complete the download until I stabilized the Internet connection. I hooked my Ubuntu laptop up to my desktop via Ethernet and shared its wireless connection using this guide, and as I am typing this now from my desktop you can see that the connection issue was successfully worked around. However, even with a stable connection established, Update Manager seems "stuck" at its current position and won't go any further. It's not totally frozen, but I can't do anything beyond open/close the Details pane as the Cancel button is grayed out. I know it can cause big problems if updates are stopped during installation, but I'm at a loss as to how this situation should be handled. I'm sure it should finish normally if I can just find a way to restart Update Manager, but the question is how this should be approached. How can I safely get my updates to finish installing?

  In this MSDN Magazine article Peter Vogel describes Extension Objects partten. What is not clear is whether extensions can be later implemented by client code residing in a separate assembly. And if so how in this case can extension get acces to private members of the objet being extended? I quite often need to set different access levels for different classes. Sometimes I really need that descendants does not have access to the mebmer but separate class does. (good old friend classes) Now I solve this in C# by exposing callback properties in interface of the external class and setting them with private methods. This also alows to adjust access: read only or read|write depending on the desired interface. class Parent { private int foo; public void AcceptExternal(IFoo external) { external.GetFooCallback = () => this.foo; } } interface IFoo { Func<int> GetFooCallback {get;set;} } Other way is to explicitly implement particular interface. But I suspect more aspproaches exist.

  I'm learning to develop windows applications using WINAPI and plain C. Now I got a bit confused with all those handles and would like to ask if you guys could teach me some good practices to structure and handle controls and windows. Here's where I get confused: Using the IDs declared in the resources for each object, we can get their handles using GetDlgItem(). Now what if we don't know their parent, which is needed by this function. One example: We have the main window created at launch. Then we register two new window classes and create a window for each new class and we create a message function for each too. Now if inside one of the children windows I create a button and inside the other child window I create a text label. Now when we click the button inside of child window A the label in child window B shall be modified to whatever. The WM_COMMAND for the button is interpreted inside the message loop for child window A. Now what would be the best and more elegant way to access the text label inside the child window B? I am in the process of learning the WINAPI and just want to learn it right from the start instead of producing Hacked code that someday becomes unreadable and to later have to adapt to a new way of programing.

  So, I have a Model stored in MyModel, that is made from three meshes. If you loop thrue MyModel.Meshes the first two are children of the third one. And was just wondering, if anyone could tell me where is the problem with my code. Another thing I wanted to ask, if I change the scale/rotation/position of a children mesh, and then do CopyAbsoluteBoneTransforms() will children meshes be positioned properlly(at the proper distance) or would achieving that require more math/methods? • Useful WatiN Extension Methods

  I've been doing a fair amount of UI testing using WatiN recently – here’s some extension methods I've found useful. This checks if a WatiN TextField is actually a hidden field. WatiN makes no distinction between text and hidden inputs, so this can come in handy if you render an input sometimes as hidden and sometimes as a visible text field. Note that this doesn't check if an input is visible (I've got another extension method for that in a moment), it checks if it’s hidden. public static bool IsHiddenField(this TextField textField) { if (textField == null || !textField.Exists) { return false; } var textFieldType = textField.GetAttributeValue("type"); return (textFieldType != null) && textFieldType.ToLowerInvariant() == "hidden"; } The next method quickly sets the value of a text field to a given string. By default WatiN types the text you give it into a text field one character at a time which can be necessary if you have behaviour you want to test which is triggered by individual key presses, but which most of time is just painfully slow; this method dumps the text in in one go. Note that if it's not a hidden field then it gives it focus first; this helps trigger validation once the value has been set and focus moves elsewhere. public static void SetText(this TextField textField, string value) { if ((textField == null) || !textField.Exists) { return; } if (!textField.IsHiddenField()) { textField.Focus(); } textField.Value = value; } Finally, here's a method which checks if an Element is currently visible. For me, giving the implementation access to parent's information is some how disconcerting. On the other hand, initializing a new list, just to collect the items is a useless overhead ... What is the better design? How would it change, if DoSomethingWithStuff wouldn't be part of BaseItem but a third class? PS: there might be missing semicolons, or typos; sorry for that! • Who extends interfaces? And why?

  AFAIK, my class extends parent classes and implements interfaces. But I run across a situation, where I can't use implements SomeInterface. It is the declaration of a generic types. For example: public interface CallsForGrow {...} public class GrowingArrayList <T implements CallsForGrow> // BAD, won't work! extends ArrayList<T> Here using implements is syntactically forbidden. I thought first, that using interface inside < is forbidden at all, but no. It is possible, I only have to use extends instead of implements. As a result, I am "extending" an interface. This another example works: public interface CallsForGrow {...} public class GrowingArrayList <T extends CallsForGrow> // this works! extends ArrayList<T> To me it seems as a syntactical inconsistancy. But maybe I don't understand some finesses of Java 6? Are there other places where I should extend interfaces? Should the interface, that I mean to extend, have some special features?
